Press release from Lisa Beran...

Lisa Beran announced her candidacy for District Judge in the 20th Judicial District on Friday, May 8.

Beran has served as an attorney in Barton County for 33 years. Over the years, Beran has acquired a wide variety of experiences including business litigation, insurance defense, medical malpractice, criminal, domestic and child-in-need-of-care cases. She has also served as a mediator in domestic cases. Since 1995, she has owned her own practice, the Law Office of Lisa A. Beran. She is a current member of the Kansas Bar Association and Barton County Bar Association.

“I am seeking election to the position of District Judge as I believe I have significant experience, both personal and professional, to bring to the bench,” Beran said. “Over the years, I have had the privilege of appearing before many judges for whom I have the greatest respect. As a District Judge, I would make every effort to continue their legacy of providing a fair hearing to all litigants in the administration of justice.”

An active community member, she has served in many volunteer roles including currently serving as the chair of the Clara Barton Hospital Board of Directors. She also previously served as the president of the Independent Township Library Board. A member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Beran has volunteered as an organist, choir member, past PSR teacher and held many positions in the St. Anne’s Alter Society.

The seat will be up for election in a primary on August 4 and the general election on November 3, 2020. The seat is currently held by the retiring Judge Mike Keeley.

In 1983, Beran graduated from the University of Kansas (KU) in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts with distinction in political science. A graduate of the University of Kansas School of Law in 1986, Beran and her family reside near Claflin, in the northeast corner of Barton County. During her time at KU School of Law, she was a Rice Scholar, associate editor of the University of Kansas Law Review and was a member of the Order of the Coif.

She is married to Gerald Beran, Jr., a partner in Beran Brothers, a farming and ranching operation in Barton and Russell County. They have two children, Emily and Matt, both graduates of Claflin High School and KU.
