During times like these, there are many community partners who may find their resources stretched. That is why the United Way of Central Kansas recommends anyone in need of services or information to call 211.

UWCK Executive Director Gaila Demel says calling 211 is the best way to find resources in a particular area.

"The trained person at the call center will screen calls for us," said Demel. "This is a really easy way for people to go through the screening process. All the caller has to do is give them their zip code."

Users can also call 211 if they are worried about a family member in a different state, and the call center will start matching you with resources available in that area.

The United Way has partnered with Eagle Communications to initiate a relief fund to help those in serious need in our local community. The Schmidt Foundation will match the first $5,000 contributed to be used to help the 22 partner agencies that the United Way of Central Kansas provides funds for.

"What I appreciate the most about this donation drive from the Schmidt Foundation is that we will be able to help many of our community partners with boots on the ground right now," said Demel.

To make a contribution by cash or check, mail to Eagle Communications at Box 609 or leave it in the drop box next to the main door at the Eagle Media Center at 12th & Baker in Great Bend. For debit or credit card contributions, visit greatbendpost.com.
