Out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of the governing body members, the Barton County Commission and Great Bend City Council made the decision to postpone their joint meeting that was scheduled for this past Monday. The purpose of the meeting was to find ways the county and city can better work together in the future.

The two governing bodies had similar thoughts and actions last week when both closed general public access to their buildings, an action Commissioner Jennifer Schartz felt was the right thing to do as she addressed the City Council.

"I am really just here as a show of solidarity, and that the county wants to work with the city to keep our citizenry safe," Schartz said. "Everybody has to do their part."

The meeting between the two governing bodies will be rescheduled for a later date.

In the meantime, it is full speed ahead with precautionary steps regarding coronavirus. Great Bend City Administrator Kendal Francis says there is a helpline available for patrons to call if they have questions on city business.

"You can call the number and we will point you in the right direction and give you the most updated information we have," said Francis.

The helpline is 620-791-5035. Updated information and guidance on city operations can also be found at greatbendks.net or county operations at bartoncounty.org.
