WASHINGTON — One candidate in the battle to win the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate seat in Kansas received an exciting endorsement Monday.

Former Senate Majority leader Bob Dole announced on social media he will endorse First District congressman Roger Marshall.

"I'm proud to endorse Roger Marshall for the U.S. Senate. He's a true friend to me and a true friend to Kansas. Dr. Marshall is hard working, loyal and dedicated to preserving common-sense Kansas values in the Senate. He has my full trust, and I know he will represent Kansas well."

Marshall's GOP rivals include former Secretary of State Kris Kobach, Kansas Senate President Susan Wagle and Dave Lindstrom, a Kansas City-area businessman and ex-Kansas City Chiefs professional football player. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo confirmed again last week he has no interest in running for the job that will open as Senator Pat Roberts retires.

Marshall commented on Dole's endorsement, "I’m humbled and proud to have Senator's Dole's endorsement to serve Kansas in the U.S. Senate. Senator Dole’s legacy is one of service and conservative results for our entire country. He’s a role model, a mentor and a dear friend."
