One of the annual dinners and auctions in Great Bend has decided to cancel their event due to the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The USD 428 Education Foundation announced the cancellation of their dinner and auction that was scheduled for Nov. 19 at the Great Bend Events Center. The dinner is the organization’s primary fundraiser to support innovative instruction within the district.
USD 428 Public Information Officer Andrea
Bauer noted the Foundation will still look for other ways to fund their mission
of supporting teachers.
"There will still be an opportunity, not necessarily a virtual event, but we will still connect with past supporters and attendees to see if they will help us fund mini-grants this year," said Bauer.
The Foundation awards mini-grants each year to teachers throughout the district
to improve equipment or better serve students.
"We still want to support our teachers and their classroom needs which may be new and different this year," Bauer said.
Since its inception in 1989, the organization has raised and donated more than
$380,000 to enhance education in the district. The Foundation awarded $13,356
in mini-grants to teachers for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year.
