January is School Board Recognition Month and USD 428 in Great Bend is honoring their own board members for the critical role they play in the city and schools.

USD 428 Superintendent Khris Thexton thanked the board for voluntarily working for the district to enhance the future lives of the students.

"I want to thank you all for what you have done," said Thexton. "I guarantee you that when you went for this position, you had no idea you were going to have to go through what you did this past year. We appreciate all your time and effort through that."

As a token of appreciation, Thexton presented each board member a pie from Perkins Restaurant & Bakery and a certificate from the Kansas Association of School Boards (KASB).

"Our school board members help lead our district through an unprecedented pandemic," said Thexton. "Board members are responsible for setting the vision of our district, local educational programs, partnering with staff and other members of the community to provide facilities and infrastructure to achieve that vision."

USD 428 Board of Education members include Chris Umphres, Susan Young, Aaron Emerson, Deanna Essmiller, Lori Reneau, Jacque Disque and Don Williams.
