Sunflower Diversified Services is sponsoring three Angel Trees in Great Bend to make the Christmas season a little merrier for people with special needs.

One tree is located at Great Bend Coffee, 2015 Lakin, which has displayed a Sunflower tree for many years.

Sites for the other trees are The University of Kansas Health System lobby, 514 Cleveland, and Westside Market, 5523 10th, which Sunflower owns and operates.

“We are happy to offer these three convenient locations,” said Cody Harris, Sunflower director of planned giving and community support. “Our goal is to spread a little joy during the holiday season.

“I encourage the community to come together and share the spirit of Christmas. Together, we can make this a memorable and meaningful season for kiddos and adults with developmental delays and disabilities.”

The trees are adorned with Angels that represent local and area residents’ wants and needs. A few examples are movies, clothing, sports-team items and LED lights for a wheelchair.

Participants are asked to choose a tag from a tree, purchase a gift and return it to one of two locations. Presents for adults should be taken to Westside Market and those for children go to Great Bend Coffee.

The delivery deadline is Dec. 20.

“Anyone who would rather donate funds for a gift is certainly welcome to do so,” Harris noted. “We want to make this as convenient as possible for those who do not have a lot of free time to shop.

“The kindness of their central Kansas neighbors will mean everything to people who need it the most.”

Sunflower serves infants, toddlers and adults in Barton, Pawnee, Rice, Rush and Stafford counties. It is in its 58th year.
