USD 431 Hoisington continues to make progress on a new childcare facility. In October, Superintendent Patrick Crowdis allowed the board of education a first reading of a proposed land-use contract with Advancing Barton County Childcare (ABCC). The board did not vote on the contract last month so Crowdis could remove some unwanted language.

"I did review the lease agreement and removed any of the other subsidiary agreements that were hanging out there in terms of custodial use or any of those types of things," he said, "just to focus it completely on the usage of the land. I believe I've got all those done."

The new daycare facility will be located behind Roosevelt Elementary School. As Crowdis explained in October, ABCC will pay a dollar to lease the land every year as part of the contract. Beyond that, ABCC will handle all the insurance and utilities, and the building will be independent of the district. The contract will merely recognize USD 431 as the owner of the land on which the building sits.

The board approved the contract pending review by the district's attorney. It will then be forward to ABCC for approval.
