Last October, the Great Bend City Council approved a motion to move forward with an application to seek funding from the Kansas Department of Commerce to handle street repairs.
If awarded, Great Bend plans to use the
financial assistance to mill and overlay 12 blocks of Broadway Avenue and
reconstruct the intersection of 19th and Harrison.
"We are awaiting announcement of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for Broadway and the 19th & Harrison project," said City Administrator Kendal Francis at Monday's meeting. "We are hoping to hear that announcement this week."
The maximum award is $700,000 with a minimum-required match of 25%, but
since the CDBG funds are competitive, Great Bend submitted a 50% match.
The engineer’s estimate for the project is just under $1.3 million, making the
city’s share approximately $646,000.
The mill and overlay would include Broadway Avenue from Polk to Morton.
