The Rural Education Center at Kansas State University focuses on improving the education of children in rural schools throughout the state. One way K-State is accomplishing this goal this summer is by offering virtual STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) classes to schools across the state.
Great Bend Middle School staff was able sign up for one of K-State’s
virtual academies, and Instructional Coach Stacey Magnett said the course focuses
on computer science.
"The first week, the students that came did coding," said Magnett. "Week two, was about robotics and AI. Students built the robots and programed the robots."
Only accepting 40 schools, Great Bend Middle School was accepted into the grant
funding the program. The students will finish the final week of the academy this
week by flying the drones indoors.
