Great Bend's .15% sales tax increase designated for “quality of life” projects that was approved last November is expected to generate $567,000 in 2023. A 10-year capital improvement plan was organized by a committee to outline projects to tackle.

In 2023, Great Bend has proposed allocating $10,000 from the tax revenue to make improvements to the dog park at Veterans Memorial Park.

City Administrator Kendal Francis said the dog park is well used and there has been talk of creating separation for small dogs and large dogs.

"This money would be used to add fencing," said Francis. "This would allow them to cohabitate and protect the smaller dogs from the larger ones."

Francis and the city council discussed the possibility of extending the fence for a separate section or partitioning an existing area.
