Archery deer season has been underway for over a month in Kansas, and within another month it will be time to think about the regular deer season.
Cheyenne Bottoms Area Wildlife Manager Jason Wagner reminds everyone that on
public lands, which includes walk-in hunting, there is a limit of two tree stands
per property that an individual can have.
"What has happened in the past is that someone gets greedy and wants to reserve the area," said Wagner. "They go set up a whole bunch of stands to prevent other people from hunting that area. So you can only have two."
If you are leaving a tree stand on public property, the stand needs to have
your name and your Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism number written
on it.
Wagner also states that portable or pop-up blinds cannot be left overnight on
public land. If you have a pop-up, you have to set it up that day and take it
down that night.
Wagner has taken down stands and blinds in the past because they were
left illegally. He typically leaves a note in the place it was left to inform
hunters where they can pick up their property.
