The position of assistant city administrator has been vacant for several years within the City of Great Bend. Job duties will be shuffled around after the Great Bend City Council voted 5-2 Monday to approve Logan Burns as assistant city administrator.

Burns has served as the city’s building official for the past three and a half years. Burns will still oversee building inspections, but will also supervise code enforcement and public lands.

"It has helped being the secretary of the planning and zoning side," said Burns. "Being part of the zoning board also helps the roles of the assistant city administrator will do."

The assistant administrator position has been left open for years, but has continued to be accounted for in the city’s budget each year in case the municipality found a candidate.

Councilmember Davis Jimenez, one of the two opposing votes, asked City Administrator Kendal Francis if he felt the city needed the assistant position.

"I guess in all honesty I'd say no," said Francis. "I do think that the reorganization, as it's structured, is needed. I don't know that we necessarily need that position to be headed by an assistant city administrator."

Burns stated the process to find his replacement as building official will get underway soon, but no start date for his new position was announced.
