After the settlement from the SRCA Dragstrip lawsuit, the City of Great Bend is moving forward with the design for the build of the track. The dragstrip was reconstructed in May 2021 by Suchy Construction but several issues followed the completion of the project making the surface unsafe and forcing the cancellation of the last two race seasons.

Bartlett & West (B&W) was an expert for the rebuild as part of the lawsuit and the City of Great Bend has been in conversation with Bartlett & West to provide the design for the rebuild. The contract provides for a lump sum design feed in the amount of $40,000 to develop a schematic concept design defining project requirements coordinating with the city, SRCA, NHRA, along with engineers who were experts in the lawsuit.

Also included in the contract is preconstruction services for a lump sum fee of $15,000 that provides management, developing budgets, project planning, scheduling, coordinating design meetings and developing bid packages.

B&W hopes for 60% conceptual drawings by April and anticipate all work to be completed in time for racing before the season in spring 2026.

A motion will be presented to the Great Bend City Council to sign the contract for the rebuild design in the amount of $55,000. The council meeting is Monday, Jan. 20 at 6:30 p.m. inside City Hall.
