The Pawnee County Sheriff’s Office showed off their newest piece of
equipment this week with a night vision monocular. Sheriff Scott King said the
night vision scope will be helpful with locating subjects in any future incidents.
"Anything when we start dealing with, not just the state hospital and Department of Corrections escapes, but if someone were to get lost at night," said King. "We could bring it out even at an accident scene if we thought somebody walked away from scene. Or maybe somebody was ejected and we had to go around to make sure everybody was safe."
Through the United States Deputy Sheriff’s Association (USDSA) there is a
platform where people throughout the country can donate funds for equipment.
The 501(c)(3) national non-profit organization supports law enforcement with
equipment, training and citizen awareness programs.
"USDSA does a lot for law enforcement throughout the nation," said King.
The handheld scope will be kept at Pawnee County Sheriff’s Office and will be
available for deputies to check out when needed.
