The Great Bend City Council will hear a recommendation Monday to build a
new police station at the intersection of 12th & Baker streets.
The City of Great Bend has considered renovations or building a new facility
for the Great Bend Police Department for years. The current structure on Williams
Street was built in 1928 and has its share of structural problems and
inefficient space.
The proposed structure would be built on the city-owned parking lot. The
location would meet size requirements, keep the facility in the downtown area
and saves the city the cost of land acquisition. The next step will be to
secure design and construction services.
The anticipated cost is not expected to exceed $5 million.
Last fall, the City of Great Bend had approximately $1.4 million saved for
police department improvements.
The motion to authorize issuing a Request for Proposals for Design & Construction Services for a new police station will go before the city council at the June 7 meeting.
