Edward R. “Ed” Schwindt, 90, La Crosse, Kansas, died Thursday, November 12, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

Ed was born July 10, 1930, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Philip and Antonia (Hoenig) Schwindt. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. He was a mechanic in the electrical industry before his retirement.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas. He was a life member of the VFW, and served as a past commander.

Ed was a Korean War veteran serving in the United States Army.

On May 15, 1961, he married Betty Tomecek at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Timken, Kansas. She preceded him in death January 9, 1995.

Survivors include: his son, Phillip Schwindt (Laura), La Crosse, Kansas; five grandchildren, Jen Kuhn, Matt Fry, Mary Schwindt, Carlos Schwindt, and Andy Schwindt; and five great grandchildren, Rylee Lopez, Lily Land, Kendrix Joseph, Sapphira Maina, and Quinn Martens-Bobbitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; six brothers, Carlos Schwindt, Harold Schwindt, Elton Schwindt, Arthur Schwindt, Paul Schwindt, and Wesley Schwindt; and two sisters, Viola Horyna, and Ardell Simmerman.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 15, 2020, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family

receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 P.M.

Church visitation will be Monday, November 16, 2020, from 9:00 A.M. to 9:50 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Monday, November 16, 2020, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Father Stephen Dabanka officiating. Interment will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery, Timken, Kansas.

Larned - Marlene Betty Albert, 85, passed away November 12, 2020 at The University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas.

She was born January 19, 1935 in Osborne County, Kansas; the daughter of Louie and Betty Boehner Tonne. A longtime area resident; she was the Secretary at the Pawnee County Health Dept., Larned.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Larned where she was a Deacon and served in many capacities. She was in the Christian Woman Fellowship where she volunteered in their thrift shop, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, served on the Election board, was an avid blood donor, she loved gardening, and was known for her wonderful cinnamon rolls and most of all enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

On August 17, 1952 she married John Henry Albert in Beloit, Kansas. He survives.

Other survivors include; two sons, John D. “J.D.” (Janet), Costa Rica, Duane G. (Deanna) Lee’s Summit, MO; two daughters, Cheryl M. (Kim) Beckwith and Melonie K. (Richard) Myers, both of Larned; a sister, Linda (Charley) Bowers, Beloit; twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son; Loren Dale Albert.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned with Pastor Damon Bradley presiding. Jacky Bill Wise, 86, passed away at Ellinwood District Hospital on November 11, 2020. Born March 4, 1934, according to Jack (on the kitchen table), in St. John, KS. He was the son of Wesley &amp; Bertha Wise. He married Sondra Lee Conwell in Ellinwood on July 10, 1953, and they enjoyed 62 years together before Sondra was called home.

Jack graduated from St. John High school in 1952. He then attended Hutchinson Community College where he played basketball and soon after met the love of his life. Jack pursued a lifetime career in the oil field.

In 1967 Jack and Sondra moved back to Ellinwood, where they took over a family business, Dick’s Engine &amp; Machine Service. Jack created more than a business after he and Sondra took it over. It was always a place where anyone was welcome to come in and play a card game, talk oil prices, and grab a snack. He developed many lifelong friendships through his business. His children later joined the family business, and it is actively open and operating today.

Jack was once a member of Ducks Unlimited, Cottonwood Gun Club, Grove Park Golf Course, and the Shriner’s Club, and he was a Mason. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was always up for a trip&nbsp; to the casino. Jack and Sondra enjoyed many vacations together, and loved to dance. Once their family grew, they shared their love for traveling with their family, by taking them on vacations as well. A very important part of Jack’s life was watching his grandchildren grow up and follow them through all of their sport endeavors. He believed in family values, and he and Sondra would host a Sunday dinner each week for the family.

Jack is survived by 2 children, Andy (Joanie) Wise of Ellinwood and Robin (Don) Moos of Ellinwood, 5 granddaughters Tiffany Eaton of Hutchinson, Ks, Kendra Kaiser of Great Bend, Ks, Cassie (Mark) Batchman of Ellinwood, Keri (Joe) Vinduska of Great bend, Ks, Leslie (Daniel) Domsch of Lenexa, Ks, along with 11 Great Grandchildren, Chandler and Chance Eaton of Hutchinson, Ks, Ava, Landon, and Mya Kaiser of Great Bend, Ks, Cale, Alyvia, and Mallory Batchman of Ellinwood, Ks, Emery and Sydney Vinduska of Great Bend, Ks, and Vance Domsch of Lenexa, Ks.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sondra Wise; Son, Randy Bill; Sisters, Lorna Deane Spillman and Joann Hicks.

Cremation has taken place. Services will be held at a later date.

Lifelong Wallace, Kansas, resident Shirley Rose Bussen, 84, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Shirley was born on April 24, 1936, to Celestine Leiker and Virginia Rumbach in a sod house east of Wallace, KS. She was the fourth of five children; Gloria, Roger, Elizabeth (Betty), and Celestine (Junior). She attended Wallace Grade School and graduated from Wallace County High School in Sharon Springs.&nbsp;

On August 31, 1954, she married Raymond Theodore Bussen and moved to the farm east of Wallace until her death.&nbsp; Together, they raised six children. Thomas (Tom), their natural born, and five adopted, Brian, Rhonda, Julie, Joseph (Joe), and Celeste. &nbsp;

Shirley was very strong in her faith and was an active member of St Peter’s Catholic Church and Alter Society in Wallace and later of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and Alter Society of Sharon Springs.&nbsp; She was especially devoted to Jesus’ Blessed Mother Mary.&nbsp; Many a Rosary was prayed at the Bussen farm for special intentions, family, and friends.&nbsp; Rosaries were especially prayed during bad weather and on family vacations during long car rides.&nbsp;

Shirley’s children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her greatest blessings.&nbsp; She treasured spending time with each and every one of them making all feel as if they were her favorite.&nbsp; Shirley welcomed everyone to the Bussen farm and at mealtimes the table was set with homecooked food and was surrounded by family and friends.&nbsp; Shirley enjoyed all her nieces and nephews that spent extra time at the farm during summers, harvest, and holidays and welcomed her children’s friends as if they were here own family.&nbsp; Many lived there for extended periods of time.&nbsp; Shirley enjoyed having family reunions and neighborhood gatherings at the farm, creating great feasts of food and making fond, happy memories for many.&nbsp; Everyone left with a full stomach and a warm heart.&nbsp;

Immediate family preceding her in death is her oldest son Tom, sister Gloria Jones, and brother Roger Leiker. &nbsp;

Shirley is survived by her husband Raymond of the farm at Wallace, sister Elizabeth Colson (Leo) of North Platte, NE, brother Junior Leiker (Dolly) of Atwood, KS,&nbsp; Tom’s wife Deanna Bussen of Wallace, son Brian Bussen of Denver, CO, daughter Rhonda and husband Greg Winkler of Haven, KS, daughter Julie Bussen of Baltimore MD, son Joe and wife Suzanne Bussen of Great Bend, KS, and daughter Celeste and husband Mike Rains of Oakley, KS.&nbsp; She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Shirley leaves a legacy as a faith filled woman of God, devoted wife, loving mother, grandma and great grandma. &nbsp; Her arms, kitchen, and home were always open.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 16, 2020 at 10:30 AM MT at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Sharon Springs with Father David Michael officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Fort Wallace Cemetery, Wallace, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 15, 2020, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM MT with a combined Vigil and Parish Rosary to begin at 7:00 PM all at the Church in Sharon Springs.

GREAT BEND - John P. Cedeno, 60, passed away November 11, 2020, at his home in Great Bend. He was born June 18, 1960, at Lyons, to Joseph L. &amp; Amelia (Aguilera) Cedeno. He married Karen Weathers January 8, 1983 at Great Bend. She survives.

Coming from Lyons in 1983, John was a Great Bend resident. He was a storage field operator for Oneok Hydrocarbon, LP. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He enjoyed making license plate art, 4 wheeling, going to swap meets, collecting guns, and traveling. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include, his wife, Karen Cedeno of the home; a son, Killian Cedeno and wife Jessica of Great Bend; a brother, James Cedeno and wife, Cathy of Lyons; a sister, Geriann Habiger and husband Virgil of Bushton; and two grandchildren, Kyson Cedeno, and Kenley Cedeno. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Joseph Cedeno.

LeRoy D. Hogan, 97, died November 10, 2020, at Brookdale Senior Living, Great Bend, Kansas. He was born January 7, 1923, in Rural Barton County Kansas, the son of Patrick A. and Wilhelmina D. (Eggers) Hogan. LeRoy graduated from Holyrood High School in 1941, where he excelled in Football, Basketball, and Track.

LeRoy was a farmer and stockman. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, was a board member of the Holyrood CO-OP for over 40 years, and had worked for the USDA for 35 years verifying acerage for the farmers of Barton County. He was a member of the High Plains Drifters Saddle Club and the Great Bend Square Dancing Club. LeRoy also served on the board of the Holyrood Scholarship fund from the late 1970’s thru the mid 1980’s.

On January 24, 1945, he married Allene Marie Heiken at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Holyrood. They shared 74 years together. She preceded him in death on August 27, 2019.

Survivors include; three sons, D.A. Hogan and wife Kim of Tarkio, Missouri, David Hogan and wife Barb of Jamestown, North Dakota, and Dan Hogan and wife Toni of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Shelly, Tom, Patrick, Collin, Linda, and Sean; and four great grandchildren, Ruby, Flint, Rose, Mark and one more on the way.

He was preceded in death by his wife Allene Hogan; three brothers, Harold, Marvin, and his twin brother, Leo Hogan; and two sisters, Myrtle Rose Hogan and Mary Zajic.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM Friday November 13, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Holyrood, celebrated by Father Tony Kaulandaijesu. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Burial Park, rural Great Bend, Kansas. A Rosary will be said preceeding the Mass at 9:30 AM.

GREAT BEND - LeRoy George Degenhardt, 87, passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. LeRoy was born September 20, 1933 at Loretta, KS, the son of George and Margaret (Meier) Degenhardt. He married Marilyn Gleissner June 6, 1955, at Olmitz. She survives.

Coming from LaCrosse in 1955, LeRoy worked at Sears in deliveries for 14 years and at Fuller Brush in shipping and receiving for 27 yrs. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus #862, and the Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed polka music and fishing.

Survivors include, his wife, Marilyn Degenhardt of the home; five sons, Richard Degenhardt of Great Bend; Kenneth Degenhardt and wife Cheryl of Garden City, Raymond Degenhardt and wife Cindy, David Degenhardt and wife Janet, and Daniel Degenhardt and wife Mary, all of Great Bend; a daughter, Darlene Stoss and husband Merlin of Great Bend; twelve grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lillian Weber; a brother, Don Degenhardt; and an infant brother, Harold Degenhardt.

A Great Bend resident since 1987, Claude previously lived in Russell and Claflin. He worked in the oil field supply industry as a sales manager for many years. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church and the V.F.W. Post #6240, Russell.

Dolores A. Demel, 83, passed away November 8, 2020, Hays Medical Center, Hays. She was born January 4, 1937, in rural Great Bend, to Albert and Mary (Wondra) Jenisch. Dolores married Stephen Frank Demel April 23, 1957, in Odin. He died Oct. 22, 2014.

Dolores, a lifetime resident of rural Odin, was a farm wife and homemaker and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Odin. She enjoyed KU basketball, Kansas City Royals, NASCAR and playing pinochle with her family.

Survivors include four sons, Roy Demel and wife Gracie of Ellinwood, Daniel Demel and wife Darlene of Claflin, Darryl Demel and wife Brandi of Claflin and Randy Demel of Claflin; one brother, Raymond Jenisch of Hoisington; two sisters, Virginia Zink of Tecumseh and Lucille Kaiser of Redwing; 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen, and one daughter, Bonita Demel.

Dolores A. Demel

Covid-19 claimed the earthly life of 78-year old Dennis Shank of Goodland, KS on November 8, 2020, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, with his family at his side. Dennis was larger than life and with his life eternal, he has triumphed over death.

Dennis was born to Lee E. and Leola J. (Schwindt) Shank on March 17, 1942, at the Baker Hospital in La Crosse, KS. He attended District 52 in rural Rush County and graduated from Bison High School in 1960. In 1966, Dennis received his BS degree in Business and Economics from Fort Hays State College three days after he met Gaylene Hayden on a blind date. Dennis and Gaylene were united in marriage on June 4, 1967 at the First United Methodist Church in Goodland, KS. Their union was blessed with two children, Tiffany and Cade.

For sixteen years Dennis worked as a bookkeeper and corporate accountant at Weilert’s Furniture in Hays, KS, Staab-Bunker Motors in La Crosse, KS, and Frick Construction and Exline, Inc. in Salina, KS. In 1982, Dennis felt the call to be a steward of the land and began farming and ranching in Sherman County, KS. Dennis was most at peace while caring for the land, producing crops, and tending his beloved herd of cattle, including his favorite cow, Gertrude, who still resides at the farm.&nbsp;

In addition to being a member of the Goodland United Methodist Church, Dennis took special pride in serving each of his communities in various ways. He was a member of the La Crosse Jaycees, the International Lions Clubs of Solomon and Goodland, the Solomon Masonic Lodge, and the Isis Shrine of Salina. He enjoyed serving on the Solomon City Council, the board of directors of the Goodland Co-op, the Goodland Regional Medical Center Board, and the Sherman County Soil Conservation Services Board.

Dennis was an avid hunter, enjoying many pursuits of pheasants, deer, and antelope with his treasured friend and hunting buddy Richard Carlson. He was a member of Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited. Richard recalls the special occasion of their hunting trip to Nebraska during which Dennis used his grandfather’s shotgun to shoot a pheasant.

Dennis had a rough exterior with a good heart. He was very generous with others and fond of taking in strays, whether they were animals or strangers. He loved to talk with anyone and everyone, especially about farming. If Gaylene wanted to locate him in a crowd, she merely had to listen for his booming voice talking about agriculture.&nbsp;

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister Katherine.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife of the home, daughter Tiffany (Casey) Musil of Louisburg, KS, son Cade Shank of Wichita, KS, beloved grandchildren Megan Scott of Hays, KS, Hannah Jones of Hays, KS,&nbsp; and Zachary Musil of Louisburg, KS. He is also survived by his brother Duane (Carol) Shank of Stillwater, OK, sister Deanne (John) Ficken of Bison, KS, brother Dale (Lorrie) Shank of Basehor, KS, his favorite Aunt Thelma Fiala of Bison, KS, many nieces and nephews, as well as many extended family and legions of friends.

Visitation will be held at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland, KS from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. MT on Friday, November 13, 2020. Memorial services will be at the Goodland United Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. MT on Saturday, November 14, 2020 with Pastor Zach Anderson officiating. Dennis was larger than life and with his life eternal, he has triumphed over death.Dennis was born to Lee E. and Leola J. (Schwindt) Shank on March 17, 1942, at the Baker Hospital in La Crosse, KS. He attended District 52 in rural Rush County and graduated from Bison High School in 1960. In 1966, Dennis received his BS degree in Business and Economics from Fort Hays State College three days after he met Gaylene Hayden on a blind date. Dennis and Gaylene were united in marriage on June 4, 1967 at the First United Methodist Church in Goodland, KS. Their union was blessed with two children, Tiffany and Cade.For sixteen years Dennis worked as a bookkeeper and corporate accountant at Weilert’s Furniture in Hays, KS, Staab-Bunker Motors in La Crosse, KS, and Frick Construction and Exline, Inc. in Salina, KS. In 1982, Dennis felt the call to be a steward of the land and began farming and ranching in Sherman County, KS. Dennis was most at peace while caring for the land, producing crops, and tending his beloved herd of cattle, including his favorite cow, Gertrude, who still resides at the farm.&nbsp;In addition to being a member of the Goodland United Methodist Church, Dennis took special pride in serving each of his communities in various ways. He was a member of the La Crosse Jaycees, the International Lions Clubs of Solomon and Goodland, the Solomon Masonic Lodge, and the Isis Shrine of Salina. He enjoyed serving on the Solomon City Council, the board of directors of the Goodland Co-op, the Goodland Regional Medical Center Board, and the Sherman County Soil Conservation Services Board.Dennis was an avid hunter, enjoying many pursuits of pheasants, deer, and antelope with his treasured friend and hunting buddy Richard Carlson. He was a member of Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited. Richard recalls the special occasion of their hunting trip to Nebraska during which Dennis used his grandfather’s shotgun to shoot a pheasant.Dennis had a rough exterior with a good heart. He was very generous with others and fond of taking in strays, whether they were animals or strangers. He loved to talk with anyone and everyone, especially about farming. If Gaylene wanted to locate him in a crowd, she merely had to listen for his booming voice talking about agriculture.&nbsp;Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister Katherine.&nbsp;He is survived by his wife of the home, daughter Tiffany (Casey) Musil of Louisburg, KS, son Cade Shank of Wichita, KS, beloved grandchildren Megan Scott of Hays, KS, Hannah Jones of Hays, KS,&nbsp; and Zachary Musil of Louisburg, KS. He is also survived by his brother Duane (Carol) Shank of Stillwater, OK, sister Deanne (John) Ficken of Bison, KS, brother Dale (Lorrie) Shank of Basehor, KS, his favorite Aunt Thelma Fiala of Bison, KS, many nieces and nephews, as well as many extended family and legions of friends.Visitation will be held at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland, KS from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. MT on Friday, November 13, 2020. Jane Gaynell Smith

Larned – Norma Mae Gatterman passed away on November 5, 2020 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. She was born July 6, 1925 at Lewis, the daughter of W.R. “Ray” and Iva (Jarvis) McClaren.

Norma graduated from Lewis High School in 1943, and attended Fort Hays Kansas State College for 2 years. She was introduced to Thoran Gatterman in the summer of 1942 by a mutual friend. He left for college at Kansas State in the fall, and they corresponded until reuniting at Christmas. Thoran was called to active duty in World War II in February of 1943 and was station in England. After the war, they married in Lewis on April 21, 1946, and started their farming operation. To that union two sons were born. On January 2, 1967, Thoran died after a long battle with cancer.

Norma is survived by her sons Bryan Gale (Maureen) Gatterman and Bruce Thoran Gatterman; three grandchildren, Lindsay (Mitch) Walter, Anthony “Tony” (Misha) Gatterman, and Christina Gatterman; four great grandsons, Cal, Davis, and Archie Walter, and Beau Gatterman; a niece, Chari Shoemake; newphews Gary Boldt, David Cross, and Robert Cross; numerous cousins, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her beloved daughter-in-law Ann Gatterman, her sister Dorothy Boldt, her brother Melvin “Buddy” McClaren, and an infant sister.

Norma had vivid memories and shared stories about the Dust Bowl, the Great Depression, farming with her father in Ulysses, Kansas in those years, and World War II. She farmed with her husband, was a homemaker, and later worked in Lewis as an office clerk at Cross Manufacturing until her retirement. Norma lived in Lewis until moving to Larned in 2009, where she lived independently until her health began failing in 2016. She then became a resident of Country Place Senior Living until the time of her death.

At Lewis, she was a member of the Lewis United Methodist Church, Women’s Society of Christian Service, an extension unit, Northside Coffee Club, and several bridge clubs. She was a proud member of the President’s Club of the Kansas State University Ahearn Fund. She attended church at the Larned United Methodist Church.

Her best times were with her husband, family, and friends, attending music and athletic events of her children and grandchildren, cooking, enjoying the companionship of her dogs, and traveling to and attending KSU football and basketball games. In her later years she was a faithful television viewer of all sports, but especially the Wildcats, Royals, and Chiefs.

Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Lewis United Methodist Church, Lewis, with Pastor Bill Stapleton and Pastor Melissa Naylor presiding, service will be viewable via Facebook Live at www.facebook.com/beckwithmortuary. Olivia Rose Hamby, infant daughter of Sage Martinz and Joshua Hamby, was born on November 2, 2020, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, and then peacefully passed away in her father’s arms a few hours later.

She was born January 11, 1932 at Frontenac, Kansas, to Joseph &amp; Ella (Barr) Wilson. She married Albert "Pete" Foelgner, Jr., January 23, 1954 at Tucumcari, New Mexico. He died March 21, 1996.

Coming from Larned in 1954, Marie was a Great Bend resident. She was in real estate sales for many years and did volunteer work at CKMC. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, and the Altar Society. She was a former member of the Golden Belt Country Club and the Ladies Golf Association, both of Great Bend.

Survivors include, three daughters, Lisa Folds and husband Joel of Wichita, Marti Smith and husband Kenny of Great Bend, and Jennifer Wilder of Wichita; a sister, Jane Compton of Omaha, Neb.; seven grandchildren, Tyler Smith, Shane Smith, Sarah Vague, Christopher Wilder, Travis Folds, Jeremy Folds, and Jenna Ostrand; and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert "Pete" Foelgner, Jr.; and two brothers, Art Wilson, and Joseph Wilson.

GREAT BEND - Vernon Edward Steinert, 92, passed away November 4, 2020, at his home in Great Bend. He was born August 18, 1928, at Galatia, to Edward &amp; Emma (Tittel) Steinert. He married Geneva Popp October 28, 1949, at Great Bend. She survives.

A lifetime Barton county resident, Vernon was the owner and operator of Steinert Oil Company, serving as a bulk agent for Texaco, until his retirement in 1981. Following his retirement, he pursued his heart’s passion, volunteering for the Mobile Missionary Assistance Program until 2008, which allowed them to travel throughout the United States. He and Geneva continued their ministry at Brookdale Assisted Living, through Faith Community Church, leading worship for several years. He was a member of Faith Community Church and a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he held many leadership roles.

Survivors include, his wife Geneva Steinert of the home; a son, Marty Steinert and wife Kim of Topeka; a daughter, Mary French and husband Terry of Great Bend; and nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Vernon David Steinert; two brothers, Orando Steinert, and Alfred Steinert; and a sister, Olga Wells.

Ethan Travis “E.T.” Mai, 56, Hays, died Friday, November 6, 2020, at his home.

He was born September 29, 1964, in 
Pensacola, Florida, the son of Jan Lawler and Elwood Mai.&nbsp; He was a 1982
 graduate of Russell High School.&nbsp; On August 31, 1999, he was united in 
marriage to Tracy Lynn Dinges in Estes Park, Colorado, and they 
celebrated 21 years of marriage.&nbsp; His family meant everything to him.&nbsp; 
He loved his wife dearly and was a very strong believer in God and the 
Bible.&nbsp; Ethan loved drawing, fixing up the house, working with cattle, 
horseback riding, and being very involved with all the things Peyton and
 Colton had going on.

Survivors include his wife Tracy of 
Hays, three sons: Colton Mai of Hays, Trenton Mai of Schoenchen, and 
Brandon Mai of Concordia, a daughter: Peyton Mai of Hays, his mother:

 Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church 
with Fr. Damian Richards officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Mt. Allen 
Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Tuesday at Hays
 Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Wednesday 
at the church.&nbsp; A vigil service will be at 7:30 pm on Tuesday at the

Haney, 37, died November 01, 2020, with his wife and children at his side, in
Marquette, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born February
14, 1983, in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Trey Clem, III and Jeanette
Shafer.

Ryan
graduated from Winfield High School and then received his Associate Degree from
Coffeyville Junior College and Cowley County College.

Ryan worked
for Mid Kansas CO-OP in Marquette.&nbsp; Ryan
was active in Boy Scouts all his life and attained the rank of Life Scout. He
was also a member of the Great Bend Young Professionals.&nbsp; He loved spending time with family,
especially taking his children to the zoo and teaching them life skills at the
river.&nbsp; He was an avid outdoorsman, he
loved to hunt, fish, camp, play paint ball and ride sports bikes, and was a
hard core gamer. 

On August
18, 2012, he married Jesse LeeAnn Trahan, at First Southern Baptist Church,
Great Bend, Kansas. 

He is
survived by his wife Jesse Haney; a son, Colt Reed Haney, and a daughter, Raya
Elaina Haney, all of the home; parents, Rod and Jeanette Haney of Winfield, and
Trey and Susan Clem of Cincinnati, Ohio; brothers, Evan Haney of Burden, and
Colin Haney and wife Grace of Wichita; sisters, Sarah Haney and companion
Michael Manga of Winfield; Carolyn Clem of Los Angeles, California, and
Margaret “Maggie” Clem of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandparents, Norma Shafer of Coats,
and Ronald and Ramona Haney of Garden City.

He was
preceded in death by his grandfather, Marvin Shafer, and a cousin, Greg Larson.

Lawrence "Larry" Thomas Beck, son of the late Fred and Anna (Peschka)
Beck, was born February 9, 1936, in Odin, Kansas, and passed away November 1,
2020, in Alva, Oklahoma, at the age of 84 years, 8 months, and 22 days. 
 
Larry grew up in Odin and graduated from Odin High School with the Class of
1954. He served in the United States Army and served one tour in Korea. He
moved to Waynoka in 1977 and went to work at Litzenberger Construction as a
heavy equipment operator. On February 26, 1983, he was united in marriage to
Peggy Herrmann in Waynoka. 
 
One of his greatest joys in life was all of his children, grandkids, and great
grandkids. He enjoyed woodworking. 
 
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Art Beck; three
sisters, Dorothy Johnson, Leona Weiser, and Mildred Fitzstephens; and one
son-in-law, Bob Bettencourt, Jr. 
 
Larry is survived by his wife, Peggy, of Waynoka; two sons, Brad Beck and wife,
Brenda, of Waynoka; Shawn Lewis and wife, Brenda, of Ponca City; four
daughters, Jolinda Bettencourt of Alva, Shannon Treece and husband, Tommy, of
Waynoka, Shelly Collins and husband, Kenny of West Plains, Missouri, and Sharon
Shelton and husband, Terry, of Milton, Kansas; 13 grandchildren; 17 great

at Orchard Gardens Care and Rehab Center in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; Frank was
born on January 15, 1978 at McAllen, Texas to Rosaura Sanchez.&nbsp; He moved
to Great Bend in October of 1986.&nbsp; Frank graduated from Great Bend High
School in 1996, and then attended Barton Community College for a time.&nbsp; He
worked for Larned State Hospital of Larned, Kansas as a Mental
Health/Developmental Disabilities Tech.&nbsp; Frank loved to cook, taking road
trips, and spending time with family and friends.&nbsp; He loved to watch
football on television and was a big San Francisco 49ers fan.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
Survivors include his father, Israel “Lalo” Sanchez of Great Bend, Kansas; one

Iowa. She survives.

Robert E. “Bob” Button, 94, passed away Oct. 30, 2020, at River
Bend Assisted Living, Great Bend.&nbsp; He was
born September 17, 1926, in Great Bend to Dee E. and Grace B. (Dorshaffer) Button.&nbsp; He married Peggy L. Geil Jan. 6, 1952, in
Great Bend.&nbsp; Peggy passed away Aug. 5,
1996.&nbsp; He later married Coralie J.
(Niedens) Murphy April 21, 1999, in Great Bend.&nbsp;
She survives.

Bob, a
lifetime resident of Great Bend, was an area farmer and previously owned and
operated Button Honda.&nbsp; He was an active
member of Trinity Lutheran Church, holding many past offices, church chancel
choir, Golden Belt Carvers Club, Kansas State Anthropological Association,
Santa Fe Trail Association, Barton County Historical Society past president, Great
Bend township treasurer, Shafer Art Gallery board member and Great Bend Public
Library board member.&nbsp; Bob's love of
history, artifact collecting and nature lapped over into his passion and skill
in wood carving, being known for his intricate craft in creating decoys and
Native American and historical figures. &nbsp;Many in which are displayed at the Barton
County Historical Society Museum

Survivors
include wife Coralie Button, of the home; two sons, Robert J. “Rob” Button and
wife RoAnn of Great Bend, Randy E. Button and wife Renee of Great Bend; two
daughters, Debra Sue Hill and husband Bill of Bountiful, Utah, and Judy K.
VonFeldt and husband Jim of Larned; ten grandchildren and many great
grandchildren; two sisters in law; Marilyn Button and Mary Lou Button, both of
Great Bend; and two step children, Steven Murphy of Great Bend and Kathleen
Asher of Derby.&nbsp; He was preceded in death
by two brothers, Charles S. Button and William H. Button.

 </figure>Dateline: Great Bend, KansasRobert E. “Bob” Button, 94, passed away Oct. 30, 2020, at River
Bend Assisted Living, Great Bend.&nbsp; He was
born September 17, 1926, in Great Bend to Dee E. and Grace B. (Dorshaffer) Button.&nbsp; He married Peggy L. Geil Jan. 6, 1952, in
Great Bend.&nbsp; Peggy passed away Aug. 5,
1996.&nbsp; He later married Coralie J.
(Niedens) Murphy April 21, 1999, in Great Bend.&nbsp;
She survives.Bob, a
lifetime resident of Great Bend, was an area farmer and previously owned and
operated Button Honda.&nbsp; He was an active
member of Trinity Lutheran Church, holding many past offices, church chancel
choir, Golden Belt Carvers Club, Kansas State Anthropological Association,
Santa Fe Trail Association, Barton County Historical Society past president, Great
Bend township treasurer, Shafer Art Gallery board member and Great Bend Public
Library board member.&nbsp; Bob's love of
history, artifact collecting and nature lapped over into his passion and skill
in wood carving, being known for his intricate craft in creating decoys and
Native American and historical figures. &nbsp;Many in which are displayed at the Barton
County Historical Society MuseumSurvivors
include wife Coralie Button, of the home; two sons, Robert J. “Rob” Button and
wife RoAnn of Great Bend, Randy E. Button and wife Renee of Great Bend; two
daughters, Debra Sue Hill and husband Bill of Bountiful, Utah, and Judy K.
VonFeldt and husband Jim of Larned; ten grandchildren and many great
grandchildren; two sisters in law; Marilyn Button and Mary Lou Button, both of
Great Bend; and two step children, Steven Murphy of Great Bend and Kathleen
Asher of Derby.&nbsp; He was preceded in death
by two brothers, Charles S. Button and William H. Button.Funeral services
will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2020, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev.
Jon Brudvig and Rev. Barb Jones presiding.&nbsp;
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at Bryant Funeral
Home.&nbsp; Interment will follow at Hillcrest

Robert E. “Bob” Button

Juanita Mae Gillaspie, 88, went to be with the Lord October 28,
2020, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, in South Hutchinson. She was
born&nbsp;April 7, 1932, in Haviland, KS, to Dwight B. and Vida Mae (Jennings)
Hardy.

Juanita graduated from Pratt High School in 1949 and in 1952,
graduated from Southwestern College in Winfield, KS with an Education Degree in
Home Economics. There she met Joe Martin Gillaspie. They were married on June
1, 1952, at the Pratt United Methodist Church. They celebrated 68 years of
marriage.

Juanita enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting, painting, traveling,
photography and scrapbooking. She not only taught school, but also helped with
local school activities and sporting events with Joe. She enjoyed family
gatherings, devoting special attention to her grandchildren.

A life-long member of the United Methodist Church, she served in a
wide array of leadership positions within each local church she joined,
including teaching Sunday School classes and volunteering in various roles in United
Methodist Women. Juanita was elected by the United Methodist Church to be one
of eight lay representatives for the 200,000 members of Kansas at four
different General Conferences and elected as Kansas West Representative for
seven Jurisdictional Conferences. She chaired the conference council for six
years and the sessions planning committee. She represented the Rozel United
Methodist Church at the Kansas West Annual Conference for over 30 years.

Juanita was a 50+ year member of Family Community Education and
held leadership positions in seven counties, as well as Kansas State President,
National Program Coordinator, National Treasurer, and President of the National
FCE Alumni Association.&nbsp;&nbsp;She represented Kansas at the Associated
Country Women’s of the World Congress, once in Kansas City, MO in 1989 and the
second time in 1995 when she and Joe traveled to Christ Church, New Zealand.
Juanita was also honored by the Kansas State FCE as Extraordinary Women for
2008.

Because piano was one of her passions, she taught piano to young
boys and girls for many years in her home. She accompanied both vocal and
instrumental soloists at music contests and performances at church. Juanita and
Naomi Converse provided special music for holidays and special occasions to members
of the Rozel United Methodist Church for many years with their piano-organ
duets. Several of her former students have become musicians in their own
churches and communities.

Joe and Juanita moved to Rozel in 1969 and stayed 45 years. Due to
health reasons they relocated to South Hutchinson, KS where she lived out her
last few years.

Juanita&nbsp;is survived by: her husband, Joe; children:&nbsp; Jim
(Barbara) Gillaspie&nbsp;of Hutchinson, KS,&nbsp;Judy Gillaspie of Tulsa, OK,&nbsp;Jeff (Jeanie) Gillaspie&nbsp;of Grand Junction, CO;&nbsp;grandsons Joel (Laurie) Gillaspie, Michael Gillaspie,
Albert (Kritika) McClure, Chad (Lori) Scates; great-grandchildren, Emilee
Scates and Rumi McClure; and sister Janet Campbell.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be announced at a later date. The family suggests
