Belpre – Jerry Roger Meyer, 84, passed away November 27, 2020 at Country Living of Larned.

He was born February 2, 1936 in Larned, the son of Paul Bernard Sr. and Christine Mary Gales Meyer.

A lifetime area resident, he was a retired farmer and stockman. He was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Belpre, and the Knights of Columbus. He was a 1954 Belpre high school graduate. He was a welder and made yard art, enjoyed the company of his pets, watching high school sports, and was a K-State Fan.

On June 4, 1960, he married Lahoma Hancock in Wichita. On December 19, 1990 he married Bonita Curtis at Dodge City; she survives.

Other survivors include: his children and their spouses, Janell and Al Troyer, Tonganoxie; DeAnn and John Back, Kansas City, Mo.; and Angela and Jeff Scheck, Macksville; his stepchildren, Jeri and John Golightley, Topeka; Joey and Bev Curtis, Cheyenne, Wyo.; and James and Jonita Curtis, Wichita; sister, Mary Jean Hirsh, Kinsley; Brother, Michael Meyer, Breckenridge, CO He has six grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Paul B. Meyer Jr, and infant Larry Meyer.&nbsp;

Larned – Leonard Leroy Erway, 78, passed away November 26, 2020 at Leisure Homestead of St. John.

He was born November 20, 1942 in Wichita, the son of Marvin and Marie Wheatley Erway.

A Lifetime area resident, he was a powerplant operator for Larned State Hospital and was of the Nazarene faith.

On June 13, 1962 he married Barbara Greathouse in Larned; she preceded him in death on March 2, 2014.

Survivors include: two daughters, Kimberly Sumner, Lafayette, Indiana, Melissa and husband Randy Jacobs, Great Bend; a half-brother, George Welsch, Larned; four grandchildren, Kegan Sumner, Konner Sumner, Zackery Jacobs, Gabby Jacobs; three great grandchildren, Ayden Williams, Preston Sumner and Karoline Towery.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Erway and a half-brother, Max Welsch.

A private memorial graveside service will be held at the Larned Cemetery, Larned with Pastor John Thomas presiding.&nbsp;&nbsp;Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2020 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.&nbsp;

Richard Glen Adee, 96, passed away Nov. 26, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Center, Ellsworth, Kan.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born July 11, 1924, in Lamar, Kan., to Richard Glendenning and Maude Olive (Baker) Adee.&nbsp;&nbsp;Richard married Betty (Krueger) June 4, 1944, in Salina, Kan.&nbsp;&nbsp;After marriage, they moved to Clay Center, Kan., then moved to Great Bend, Kan., in 1950.&nbsp;&nbsp;Betty passed away Oct. 15, 2017.

Richard, a long-time resident of Great Bend, Kan., was retired from Hydro-Chem, previously working at Thies Packing as a meat cutter.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, Great Bend Woodcarvers and a charter member of St. Mark Lutheran Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;Richard proudly served his country during WW II, in the 41st Infantry, United States Army, obtaining the rank of Tech. Sgt.

Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Marie Adee of Manhattan, Julia Ann Jilek of Manhattan, Kan., Lynne Weiser and husband Don of Salina, Kan.; four grandchildren, Melissa Ivey, Jalen Byford, Laura Weiser and Drew Byford; four great grandchildren, Jadrian Henan, Joshua Weiser, Cooper Ivey and Cayson Ivey.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, J.B. Kenneth W. Schremmer, 78, passed away November 26, 2020, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. He was born April 12, 1942, at Hoisington, to Walter &amp; Matilda (Zorn) Schremmer. He graduated from Odin High School in 1960.&nbsp;He was in the United States Army Reserves from 1960 to 1968. Kenny&nbsp;married&nbsp;Rosemary “Rosie” Demel, December 2, 1961, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Odin. She survives.&nbsp;

A lifetime Barton Co. resident, Kenny was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Hoisington, the Knights of Columbus, and American Legion. He was a manager and coach for the Hoisington Beavers fast pitch softball team. Kenny was a board member and secretary for Beaver Grain and a Barton County Commissioner for 11 years. Kenny also served on the board for the Southwest Developmental Services, Inc. Foundation. He was a lifetime farmer and formerly worked for Coast to Coast, Mid Continent LP Service, and Santa Fe Trucking.&nbsp;&nbsp;Kenny later owned and operated Sunflower Trucking Inc. and Schremmer Realty, Auction &amp; Appraisers.

Survivors include; his wife of 59 years, Rosemary “Rosie” (Demel) Schremmer of the home; four children, Scharna Doll and husband Kevin of Great Bend, Kent Schremmer of Hoisington, Terry Schremmer of Hoisington, and Kurt Schremmer and wife Sheila of Great Bend; two sisters, Jan Frenzel and husband Keith of Great Bend, and Marilyn Stapleton of Greeley, Colo.; and nine grandchildren, Trever Schremmer, Kaylie Doll, Kelsie Doll, Colton Schremmer, Karisa Schremmer, Jaci Schremmer, Payton Doll, Shaylor Schremmer, and Alex Schremmer. Georgetta Jean DeWald, born November 5, 1937, to George Hester and Verna (Rankin) Hester, died November 25, 2020.&nbsp;

She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Galatia, Kansas. She graduated from Otis High School and also graduated after 4 years from Fort Hays State University.&nbsp;&nbsp;She married James DeWald on May 9, 1966. She worked and lived on a farm all her life.&nbsp;

She is survived by her loving husband, James DeWald; and two step daughters; Andrea Janzen from Buhler, Kansas, and Stephanie Hermes from West Des Moines, Iowa; six step grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Vernetta Rogers from Hutchinson, Kansas, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and many cousins.

There will be no visitation due to cremation and burial will be at a later date.&nbsp;

Wilma “Billie” Lee (Luder) McAlexander, aged 93, died peacefully on November 26, 2020, in LaGrange, Georgia. Billie was born moments after her twin sister, Beth, on July 21, 1927 in Waldo, Kansas to parents Clemmer D. (Knapp) and Jacob “Pop” K. Luder. She married Harold “Herk” McAlexander on August 18, 1945 and travelled with him to Army posts around the U.S. and in Japan. They moved to Hoisington in early 1950. Two sons came along, K.C. in March 1950 and Dan in October 1953.&nbsp;

For almost 60 years, she was Hoisington’s all-round organist and piano teacher. She played for thousands of services—church, weddings, funerals, and high school commencements. She taught hundreds of kids piano, bringing music alive with her upbeat spirit. She taught a young adult Sunday School class called “Pairs and Spares.” She loved movies and dogs and was an inveterate walker.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In 2006, Herk died, and in 2013 she moved into assisted living in LaGrange, Georgia.&nbsp;

She is survived by; her two sons, K.C. (Suzanne) of Huntingtown, Maryland and Dan (Celeste Myall) of LaGrange, Georgia; her sister, Donna Beth Whitman of Paradise, Kansas; her five grandchildren, Caitrin McAlexander Huntzinger (John) of Ashton, Maryland, Noel Tarlton McAlexander (Stacey) of Austin, Texas, Ian Tarlton McAlexander (Joanna) of Elkton, Virginia, Anne Myall McAlexander (Carson Cerney) of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Alice Myall McAlexander (Warren Flood) of Detroit, Michigan; her five great-great grandchildren, Cormac Olson McAlexander, John Edward Huntzinger IV, Mary Blythe Huntzinger, Malcolm Lewis McAlexander-Flood, and Lorelei Anne McAlexander-Flood; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and their children. Billie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her infant brother Noel, and her younger brother, James Kirk Luder.

Owing to the pandemic, a private burial for immediate family will be held graveside at Hoisington Cemetery. A memorial service will be planned at a later date to celebrate her life.&nbsp;

Wilma “Billie” Lee (Luder) McAlexander

Goodland resident Vicente Ray Garza died unexpectedly November 25, 2020 at Porter Adventist Hospital in Denver CO. He was born Nov 5, 1976 in Colby, KS, the son of Raymundo Soto-Garza and Mary K Yañez and step son of Juan Yañez.

Vicente was lovingly called Vince by all who knew him.

Vince received his GED then he attended NWKTC for mechanics after GED. Then after he worked various jobs, Vince was very knowledgeable in electrical work carpentry and just about anything. He set up mobile homes with his uncles and stepdad for Nationwide, he was a cook/dishwasher at the bricks café, he was also a cashier at Conoco, a job in which he loved dearly. He loved his customers and always made sure to say hello and made it his personal goal to make sure they left the store with a smile.

Throughout Vince's life he had 3 great loves, (Patricia Murphy, Jennifer Smith, and Nancy Latimer) Each the mother of his three children of whom he was very proud of (Chestin, Heather, and Dora).

Vicente was never married though he was currently engaged to marry Nancy Latimer. His death cut his plan short but Vicente tried.

Being described as “just being a cool guy” Vince always had a smile on his face. He had a way making people feel comfortable and liked to be the host.&nbsp; He enjoyed throwing “backyard boogies” consisting of good music, lots of laughs, and BBQ! He loved to barbecue and would do it every day if he could. He collected Homies figures, was a talented drawer, and like Lowrider cars and loud car systems he liked to set the car systems up and tent car windows. He especially loved the Oakland Raiders, but more than those things he loved his mama. He had his ups and downs and was in and out of the system but later turned his life around. He enjoyed volunteering at the local Genesis Food Bank and ringing the bell for the Salvation Army during the holidays. He took a lot of pride in decorating the Christmas tree at the courthouse every year. He reached his goal of getting off of probation this year which was a huge accomplishment for him; he would spend time scratching lottery tickets, hanging out at home and jamming out to some good music with his beloved pet Bruno and Chiquita and his fiancé Nancy. He also enjoyed throwing the football around with his nephews. He was a loyal friend, loving brother, proud father and son.

Vicente is preceded in death by his father, Raymundo; his grandparents Ramon and Thelma; and his uncle James and David and his cat Bruno.

Vicente is survived by his children Chestin Murphy of Otis, Kansas; Heather Smith of Alabama; and Dora Dominguez of New Mexico as well as his fiancée Nancy Latimer, and his dog Chiquita. He is also survived by his mother, Mary (Juan) Yañez of Goodland Kansas; his brother Juan D Yañez, and his sisters, Maria (Paco) Garza, Jeannie (Derek) Baxter, and Elizabeth (Anthony) Yañez all of Goodland, Kansas; Gabriel Salazar of Emporia, Kansas; as well as many beloved and 13 nieces and nephews, 2 great nieces and hopefully and great nephew on the way and cousins, aunts and uncles.

Vince has chosen to be cremated with his ashes being placed in a personally chosen memorial spot.

A celebration of life will be held December 12, 2020, at a location still to be determined.&nbsp;

Brian Thomas Mitchell, 52, passed away Nov. 25, 2020, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born July 5, 1968, in McPherson, to Stan and Sharon (Michaelis) Mitchell. Brian married Julie Buehler Oct. 17, 1986, in Great Bend.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Brian, a lifetime resident of Great Bend, had owned and operated Pro-Green Total Lawn Care, Inc., starting the business in 1995.&nbsp;&nbsp;Brian was a member of Grace Community Church, Great Bend Chamber of Commerce, and enjoyed anything motor related; demolition derbies, mud runs and any type of car racing.&nbsp;&nbsp;He especially enjoyed time with his family and friends at the sand dunes.

Survivors include wife; Julie Mitchell, of the home; one son, Dillon Mitchell and wife Ashley, of Great Bend; one grandchild expected in June; father, Stan Mitchell of Garden City; and two brothers, Dr. Darin Mitchell and wife Lisa of Houston and Dr. Alan Mitchell and wife Sherri of Houston.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was preceded in passing by his mother, Sharon.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Rev. Larned – Iona “Betty” B. Lauber, 87, passed away November 24, 2020 at Kearney Regional Medical Center, Kearney, Nebraska.

She was born April 10, 1933 in Dodge City, the daughter of Francis and Virginia Thorton Norris.

Moving from Hollister, Missouri, she was an area resident since 2011. She worked in the kitchen at Medicalodge of Kinsley and enjoyed fishing, reading, and doing dot-to-dot puzzles.

On May 20, 1948 she married Clinton Harold Lauber; he preceded her in death on January 24, 1997.

Survivors include: two daughters, Pammie (Jan) Shank, Larned, Tammie (Jimmy) McClaren, Kinsley; a son, David (Martha) Lauber, Cheney; eight grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clinton; a daughter, Sandra Davis, and two sons, Robert Lauber and Terry Lauber.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.

She married Warren Ervin McConnell on October 6, 1959.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Patricia worked as a Registered Nurse at Clara Barton Hospital up until her retirement.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and Altar Society, Hoisington.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Clara Bahr; and brother, Donald Bahr.

Nov. 22, 2020, at his son’s home in Hoisington.&nbsp;
He was born Aug. 27, 1943, in Troy, Ohio, to Fred and Rita (Fuerst)
Mater.&nbsp; Gary proudly served his country
in the U.S. Army, earning the rank of PFC.

Gary, a lifetime resident of
Olmitz, also living in California, New Mexico and Arizona, was a member of St.
Ann Catholic Church, Olmitz.&nbsp; He was a
truck driver and machinist, working for a broad range of industries.&nbsp; Gary led a full life of various interests,
including music, having played the guitar and dulcimer.

Survivors include one son, Randy Mater and Ashley
Walters of Hoisington; two brothers, Kenneth J. Mater and wife Nancy of Olathe and
Dan Mater and wife Renee of Olmitz; sister-in-law, Kim Schulz of Linwood;
grandchildren, Ava Bray, LaShauna Mickle, Eileah Morris and Randon Morris; and
great granddaughter, Katerina Chambers. He was preceded in passing by his
parents, and by his brother, Dave Mater.

Memorial services for Gary will be

Larry Gene Lauber, 65, passed away November 20, 2020, at Diversicare of Larned.
He was born October 11, 1955, at Russell, to Wilford &amp; Peggy (Kuntzsch) Lauber.
He married Mary Addington June 17, 1977, at Great Bend. She survives.

A lifetime
Great Bend resident, Larry was a driller in the oilfield for 38 years. He was a
member of the Church of God in Great Bend. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding Harley
motorcycles. He especially loved to spend time with his children and
grandchildren. 

Survivors
include, his wife Mary Lauber of the home; four sons, Larry Lauber, Jr., Andrew
Lauber, and Daniel Lauber and wife Janice, all of Great Bend, and Jason Lauber
of Lyons; a daughter, Raven Lauber-Hamit and husband David of Great Bend; a
brother, Patrick Lauber and wife Dorothy of Osborne; a sister, Angela Lauber of
Arizona; and fifteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Visitation
will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Monday, November 23, 2020 at Bryant
Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at
Bryant Funeral Home, with Chaplain Darren Johnson presiding. Interment will be

Burdett - Eloise M. Reece, 91, passed away November
19, 2020 at Medicalodge of Kinsley.

She was born July 30, 1929 in Larned; the daughter of
Willard and Minnie Showalter Branine.&nbsp; A
lifetime area resident; she was a farm wife and homemaker.

She was a member of the Burdett United Methodist
Church, United Methodist Women and the Burdett Senior Center.

On January 15, 1950 she married Ernest Eugene Reece at
Larned, Kansas.&nbsp; He passed away July 20,
2007.

Survivors include; two sons, Dennis (Sue) Reece, Wichita,
Les Reece, Burdett; a daughter, Karen (Cedric) Hands, Garden City; five
grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest.

Due to covid, a private family service will be held at
1 p.m. Friday, November 27, 2020 at Beckwith Mortuary with Rev. Mitch Reece

Eloise M. Reece

Barbara 'Sue' Campbell, 83, passed away on November 16th,
2020. Her death was due to complications from COVID-19, however, she was not
alone and in the comfort of her Hoisington, KS home. 

On November 3rd, 1937, Sue was born to Walter ‘Shelby’ Hawkins
and Letha Mae (Fisher) Hawkins in Maud, OK. She was an alumna of Hoisington
High School, class of 1955. She married a dashing young Marine, Orville Richard
“Dick” Campbell (1934-2008), on May 3rd, 1959 in Hoisington, KS. They had three
wonderful, strong, and stubborn children: Russ, Rana and Robert.
Professionally, she was a business owner of “Le Shop” hair salon and went on to
be a proud employee of ElderCare, Inc. in Great Bend, KS where she retired
after 18 years. Sue was an active member at the First United Methodist Church
and was involved with American Legion Auxiliary, Post #286. Sue volunteered
with Boy Scout Troop #130, and was a leader of Explorer post #013. 

Very few things were more important to her than God, family,
and the people she surrounded herself with. She was firm and soft in all the
ways a mother should be. She was a strong constant for all of the people who
were a part of her beautiful life. She celebrated life in many “little” ways:
ice cream and popcorn for dinner on Sundays, posting daily Bible verses, and
tending to her flowers (real AND virtual). Sue was all but quiet in the kind of
love and support she would give. She never forgot a birthday and strove to be
there for important events. Sue found comfort in truth and never valued herself
above others. 

She is survived by one son, Robert Campbell; one daughter,
Rana Campbell (Richard Lynn); a daughter-in-law, Holly Campbell-Heinze (Ron
Heinze); four grandchildren: Shiree Houf (Donnie Houf), Shelby Lynn, Ian Lynn
(Michelle Castillo), Courtney Campbell (Marcus Allen); and two great
grandchildren, Arabell &amp; Emerson Houf. Sue was preceded in death by her
parents; husband; son, Russell Campbell; her brother, Bill Hawkins; and devoted
dog, Jack.

Services will not be held until 2021 or until the threat of
the COVID-19 pandemic has decreased enough for family to travel and gather. If
you would like to make a memorial in her honor before such a time is decided,
please consider First United Methodist Church or the American Legion Auxiliary
Scholarship Fund. While we wait to celebrate her life, please do what you can
to keep yourself and others safe.

She was born May 4, 1945, in Great Bend the daughter of Edward and Marie

a life time resident of Great Bend. She was a member of the Eagles and the
Assembly of God Church. Carol enjoyed collecting humming birds and walking. She
loved spending time with family.

Survivors
include two sons, Leslie Hopkins of Hutchinson, and Tommy Hopkins of Great
Bend; two daughters, Pamela Hopkins and Kristie Huffman both of Great Bend; a brother,
Edwin Horyna of Hutchinson; four sisters, Rose Cosper of Grand Prairie, TX,
Betty Hafenstine of LaCrosse, Connie Allen of McPherson, and Lois Cox of South
Hutchinson; eleven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Clarence, Donald, and Kenneth
Horyna; and two sisters, Evelyn Knox and Sylvia Horyna.

longtime area resident, she was a Health Aide at the Larned State Hospital.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Larned.&nbsp; She enjoyed Collecting Holstein cow
figurines, tuxedo cats, doing needle point and cross stitch, coloring, going to
coffee and loved spending time with family and friends.

On June 3, 1967 she married Dennis H. Carden in Larned.&nbsp; He survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Terri (James)
Nauert, Hubert Heights, Ohio and Elizabeth (Robert) Keller, Larned; five
grandchildren, Justin, Johnathan and Jericah Nauert, Ayla Wagner, Brandon
Johnson and ten great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kenneth
Querry and a brother-in-law, Ronald D. Carden.

rural Milberger, to George and Mary (Kraft) Steinert.&nbsp; May married Leonard Karst April 16, 1950, at Emmanuel
Lutheran Church, north of Milberger, Kansas.&nbsp;

May, a resident of Great Bend since
1968, moving from the farm in Galatia, was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran
Church, south of Milberger, and currently a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran
Church, Great Bend. She retired as a CNA at ElderCare, previously working as a
dietician for the Dominican Sisters of Peace and Central Kansas Medical Center,
J.C. Penney, Kmart, and previous owner of the Zarah Cafe.&nbsp; Her volunteer spirit was displayed through
the Barton County Food Bank, Red Cross blood drives, and Trinity Lutheran
Church's home communion ministry.&nbsp; 

Survivors include husband Leonard
Karst; two sons, Allen Karst and wife Doris of Great Bend and Michael Karst and
wife Tracey of Springfield, Mo.; two daughters, Debra Karst of Pflugerville,
Texas, and Loralie Weller of Great Bend; eight grandchildren, Amy Paden and

lifetime Olmitz resident and farmer, was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church
and 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus, Council #2100.

Survivors

Almeda
Marie Jurgensen, 84, passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2020, at University of
Kansas Health System, in Great Bend. She was born December 5, 1935, in Hays,
Kansas, the daughter of Jake and Leona (Dinges) Herl. Almeda married Merle D.
Jurgensen on May 5, 1953, in Great Bend. He passed away February 15, 2013.

A
longtime resident of Great Bend, she was a sales clerk for Anthony’s. Almeda
was a member of Prince of Peace at St. Rose Catholic Church. She enjoyed
reading, shopping, fashion, and drinking Pepsi. She loved spending time with
her family, especially the grandkids.

Survivors
include; three sons, Eddie Jurgensen and wife Cindy of Great Bend, Bradley
Jurgensen and significant other Lisa Garland of Oskaloosa, and Brett Jurgensen
and wife Pricella “Zoe” of Apple Valley, California; twelve grandchildren,
Brandi Scheck, Chelsea Hartshorn, Kyla Jurgensen, Katelyn Johannes, Andrew
Jurgensen, Drew Jurgensen, Hannah Jurgensen, Hayley Sleffel, Tara Jurgensen,

Larry Brent Graham, 79, died
November 18, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born April 2, 1941, in Council Grove,
Kansas, the son of Nelson Everett and Vivian C. (Johnston) Graham.&nbsp; Larry served as a Corporal in the United
States Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964.&nbsp;

Larry was a longtime Claflin
resident. He worked for Kansas Brick and Tile in Hoisington for many
years.&nbsp; Larry was an active member of the
Zion Lutheran Church in Claflin.

Survivors include; two sons, Todd Graham
and wife Melissa of Grain Valley, Missouri, and Trevor Graham and wife Jolie of
Leavenworth, Kansas; extended family of the heart, June Garrett of Claflin,
Gary Garrett and wife Kristen of Wichita, Rachael Nagel and husband Travis of
Great Bend; three sisters, Margaret Ann Bryant, Martha Wayman and husband

Larry Brent Graham

Nona Jo Jamison, lovingly known to most as “Mamaw,” departed her loving family to be with her Lord on November 14, 2020.

Nona Jo was born on January 29, 1937 at her parents’ home in rural Hoisington, Kansas to the parents of Ray and Helen McCaffree Smith and older brother, Lawrence R. Smith. At the age of four, she started attending school in a one room schoolhouse. As she grew older, she learned the strength and importance of family, community, and work ethic from her parents Ray and Helen. Her father Ray dedicated years of service to Hoisington by starting the Kansas Brick and Tile Company and promoting community and State. Nona Jo learned the gift of teaching, guiding, and nurturing a family from her blessed mother, Helen. Nona Jo’s strong and dedicated faith to her Lord, Jesus Christ, came from the religious influences of her mother and grandparents. Nona Jo loved her church and was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Hoisington.

Nona Jo loved to help her father on the farm, especially taking care of her horses and her dog. She spent many hours on horseback in the spirit of her hero, Roy Rogers, enjoying the outdoors. She loved nature’s beauty. Nona Jo developed her “while you’re resting” hard work ethic by helping her dad herd sheep, milk cows, haul hay, and tend gardens and orchards. She also learned how to make a house a “home” from her mother, from cooking the best meals without recipes to having the best smelling laundry and sheets. On November 19, 1953, Nona Jo married H. D. “Holly” Jamison in New Mexico. The couple moved back to Hoisington and later divorced. Nona Jo continued to raise two beautiful daughters Tela Jo and Tobi Lu. In June 1987, Nona Jo began working at Kansas Brick and Tile, and later she followed in her father’s and brother’s footsteps by becoming President and General Manager. She retired in November 2010.

After losing her precious daughter, Tela, at the age of 19, Nona Jo continued to hold her family close, as she and Tobi were inseparable. When Tobi met Randy, she gained a son and loved her “Randrew” as her own. As her family grew, they always tackled and celebrated life together. Nona Jo considered her family and her precious puppies Jazzy and Gidget her “best friends and greatest joy.” She embedded her strong faith in each one of them. She lived life by The Golden Rule and strongly believed people should be honest, love others, and have faith in God.

Her light will continue to shine in her family. She is survived by her daughter Tobi Strickland and husband Randy; granddaughter Tandi Mai and husband Clint, and great-granddaughter Leah; granddaughter Kayci Teghtmeyer and husband Daren; and two she helped raise as her own, “son” Matt Jamison and wife Lisa; and “daughter” Shelly Demel and husband Brad. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Helen Smith; her brother, Lawrence Smith; and her daughter, Tela Jo Jamison.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2020, with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Friends may also call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until graveside service at 3 p.m., Friday, November 20, 2020, at Hoisington Cemetery.

Nona Jo Jamison

LeRoy P. Rube, 95, passed away Nov. 16, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays. He was born April 3, 1925, at Russell County, to Philip and Margaret (Templing) Rube.

LeRoy was baptized in 1925 and later confirmed in 1940 at St. John Lutheran Church, north of Susank. In 1944 he was inducted into the United States Army during WW II, at the age of 19, and honorably discharged as a Private First Class in 1946. LeRoy took his training at Camp Robinson, Ark. He left Christmas Eve, 1944, from New York Harbor, for the European Theater. He hit the front lines Jan., 1945, at Alsace-Lorraine with the 45th Infantry Division of the 179th Regiment, 1st Battalion Co., as a rifleman. His combat career also took him to Koblenz, Bamberg, Nurnberg, Freising, Munich and Dachau. Leroy received the European Theater Ribbon, two Battle Stars (Rhineland and Central Europe), Combat Infantry Badge and the Good Conduct Medal.

After the War, Leroy married Dorothy Karst, the love of his life, on April 20, 1947, in Barton County, at St. John Lutheran Church. They moved into their new Hoisington home on their wedding night, where they resided for 73 years. LeRoy worked for the City Of Hoisington for 33 years, retiring as the public street superintendent in 1987. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 286 and Life Member of V.F.W. Post 7428, all of Hoisington, 45th Infantry Division Association, National Rifle Association and AARP.

Survivors include wife Dorothy of the home, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, whom he adored very much. LeRoy was preceded in passing by a sister, Leona Niedens.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2020, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Hoisington, with Rev. Gary Wolf presiding. Masks and social distancing are recommended. LeRoy P. Rube

Gary Lee Herber, 75, passed away on November 17, 2020, at his home in 
Dorrance, KS. He was born on January 17, 1945, in Ellsworth, KS to 
Chester and Ethel (Washburn) Herber. He was united in marriage to 
Carolyn Wilkerson on January 15, 1966 in Russell, KS. 
 Gary grew up in Dorrance and graduated from Dorrance High School in 
1963. He spent his life farming. He was also a bus driver for USD 407, 
USD328, and USD112 until his retirement in 2016. Gary was a member of 
the First Lutheran Church in Dorrance, Shriners, and the Masonic Lodge. 
He enjoyed fishing, boating, and camping at Wilson Lake. He also enjoyed
 playing Pitch and Pinochle, and watching the Chiefs, but what Gary 
enjoyed the most was spending time with his family. 
 Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Carolyn of the home; sons, 
Timothy Herber and wife Christi of Dorrance, Jimmie Herber and wife 
Julie of Newport News, Virginia, and Jamie Herber and wife Jamie of 
Dorrance; and six grandchildren.
 He is preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Ethel; and his brother, Larry Herber.
