Mary Ellen “Jill” Herres, 94, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2020, in Hoisington. She was born in White Hall, Illinois, to Dr. Hans William and Marian (Winn) Broberg. Jill was a resident of Hoisington, Kansas.

Jill was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority at Kansas State University where she met her future husband, James Edward “Eddie” Herres. She graduated from K-State in 1947 and moved to San Francisco, California, to work. She and Eddie were married on October 18, 1947, in Carmel-By-The-Sea, California. They moved back to Hoisington where Eddie was born and raised and she became an active member of the community.

An avid reader, Jill was a long time Board member of the Hoisington Library. She loved animals, especially dogs, and had some very special pets. She enjoyed playing golf and attending local concerts, theater and events; she traveled to Europe and Asia. She remained involved with Delta Delta Delta and really enjoyed her PEO sisters and their good times.

She was passionate about her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She and Eddie raised two children, Blake E. Herres, DDS, of Hoisington, and Kim A. Herres, of Atlanta, GA. They survive and will miss her so very much. She was a wonderful and loving mother and wife and so much fun! Young and old enjoyed her company and she had friends of all ages and all walks of life. All who knew her will miss this very special person who loved life and lived it to its fullest.

Jill is survived by; her children, Blake and Kim; and her sister, Elizabeth Bowers (Shannon) of Sun City West, AZ; grandchildren, Addie Baird (Zach), Sarah Linsner (Kevin) and Hannah Herres; eight great grandchildren; and two nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Dr. William Broberg, of Hoisington

Cremation has been chosen. Services will be private, immediate family only. Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Leo Frederick Frenzl, 96, died August 15, 2020, at Riverbend Assisted Living, Great Bend, Kansas. He was born February 11, 1924, on the family farm near Odin, the son of Hugo and Mathilda (Hoeffner) Frenzl.

Lee was a lifetime resident of the Odin area. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #2630 of Odin, Kansas.

On October 5, 1949, he married Delores Frances Schneider at St. Ann Catholic Church, Olmitz, Kansas. She passed away on August 2, 2018.

They lived and worked on their farm near Odin, where they resided for 65 years. They had a love of attending auctions where they made many friends and Lee found materials for his numerous projects. He had a reputation for using found materials to create toys and small sculptures such as his well-known "sparkplug airplanes".

He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gerald Frenzl; his parents; five brothers, Frank, Joseph, August, Lawrence, and William Frenzl; and five sisters, Marie Meyeres, Teresa Wondra, Viola Meyeres, Gertrude Hickel, and Dorothy Reif.

Friends may call 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2020, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 p.m., all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Odin, Kansas, with Father Don Bedore presiding. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Odin. The family encourages those attending to wear masks and social distance.

enjoyed drag racing, working on his brother Butch’s racecar, and loved to
collect unique animals.&nbsp;&nbsp;Raymond was known to be a prankster, and
loved spending time with his family, where he was always a wealth of knowledge.&nbsp;&nbsp;

We celebrate the life of Alberta Kraus, from Albert, Kansas,
who died at the age of 105, on August 5, 2020, at The Villages of Jackson
Creek, Independence, Missouri.

Alberta’s families honor her gracious nature, her devotion to
family, and her church. She loved music, reading, and playing cards, and had a
passion for decorating, cooking, and kindness and service to others. We are so
proud to have had such a fine parent. 

She is survived by her four children, Thayne Kraus (wife
Leona), Lorna Shaw (husband Don), Marilyn Ginther (husband Glenn), and Karen
Organ (husband Wayne); grandchildren; great grandchildren; great great
grandchildren; and one brother, Frank Offutt. She was preceded in death by her
parents, Agnes and I.S. Offutt; six of her seven siblings; her husband of 48
years, Harvey M. Kraus; and her second husband of 18 years, Elmer Mausolf. 

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.

GREAT BEND - Mary F. Ward,
73, passed away August 9, 2020, at her home in Great Bend. She was born on
April 22, 1947, in Robstown, Texas, the daughter of Manuel &amp; Manuela “Emma”
(Granados) Moreno. She married Larry Dean Ward on April 27, 1963, at Great
Bend.&nbsp; He died December 21, 2011.

A lifetime
Barton County resident, Mary worked in housekeeping at Great Bend Health &amp;
Rehab. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her
children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. &nbsp;

Survivors
include, two sons, Jake Ward and wife Connie, and Kenneth L. Ward, all of Great
Bend; three daughters, Shelley Ward of Great Bend, Melissa Schremmer and
husband Tim of Hoisington, and Melinda Petz and husband Carl of Olathe; her
mother, Emma Moreno; 14 grandchildren, Lindsey Ward, Ashley Ward, Haley Broz,
Justin Ward, Dalton Elsen, Dylan Elsen, Ryan Ward, Derek Ward, Kelsea Ward,

Mary F. Ward

Frances Helen “Fran” Best, 83, died August 9, 2020, at
Sandstone Heights Nursing Home, Little River, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born September 25, 1936, in Hays,
Kansas, the daughter of Alexander and Enid L. (Lambert) McKenna.

Fran graduated from Palco Rural High School in 1955, and took
many courses throughout her lifetime at schools like, Barton County Community
College, Parks School of Business, Colorado School of Mines, Hutchinson JUCO,
Norriss Training, and Kansas State University.

A resident of Bushton since 1963, Fran was an assistant
cashier at the Bushton State Bank for 28 years. She was a member of the United
Methodist Church, Bushton, Kansas, where she was a former president of the
United Methodist Women. Fran was also a member of the Order of the Eastern
Star, a past president of the FHA, a den mother for the Boy Scouts, and a
reading tutor. Fran was a talented seamstress and always had her sewing kit on
hand wherever she went.&nbsp; She enjoyed
making baby dolls for children of her friends and even kiln fired her own
porcelain dolls. She was also an avid jewelry collector, designer, and creator.

On November 6, 1958, she married Robert Ray “Bob” Best in
Hutchinson, Kansas. He preceded her in death on September 22, 2017.

Survivors include; a sister, Barbara Bunch and husband Rusty
of Kanopolis; brother-in-law, Harlan Best and wife Patti; two sisters-in-law,
Patty Harman and husband Joe, and Judy Maxfield, all of Hutchinson; many nieces
and nephews, including, niece, Susan Sanders and husband Brian of Giltner,
Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by; her parents, Alexander and
Enid L. McKenna; her husband Bob; son, Curtis Ray Best; brothers, Billy Joe,
Charley “Wayne”, Everett, and Robert McKenna; and a sister, Margaret “Joan”
McKenna.

Visitation
will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday and Friday, and prior to service from 9 a.m.
until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral
service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 15, 2020, at Nicholson-Ricke
Funeral Home, with Pastor Diana Webster presiding. Inurnment will be in Kansas
Veteran’s Cemetery, Wakeeney, at a later date.

Perry Cotten, 99, died August 4, 2020, at Medicalodges, Great Bend, Kansas. He
was born April 3, 1921, in Woodston, Kansas, the son of Perry J. and Blanche A.
(Dibble) Cotten.&nbsp; Wilbur graduated from
Woodston High School in 1938. He was a WWII veteran, serving as a Staff
Sergeant in the Army Air Corp from 1942 to 1946.

On
June 21, 1947, he married Phoebe Joyce Benedick in Stockton, Kansas.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on January 10,
1977. He then married Marjorie Duncan in 1979 and they later divorced.

A
longtime Hoisington resident, Wilbur was a tool pusher in the oil field. He was
a member of the Masonic Lodge, of Osborne, Kansas. Wilbur was a fan of the
Chiefs, Royals, and Jayhawks, but especially loved attending his grandchildren’s
sporting events.

Survivors
include; four children, Janet Dayton and husband Bill of Great Bend, Joe Cotten
and wife Ginger of Hoisington, Jeff Cotten and wife Tammy of Susank, and Jodi
Snyder of Rosamond, California; 9 grandchildren; Patrick Corcoran and wife
Trish of Wichita, Aaron Corcoran and wife Jessica of Great Bend, Micah Cotten
and wife Tiffany of Godley, Texas, Sarah Simic and husband Milan of Hoisington,
Rebekah Ohlde and husband Tim of Salina, Joey Cotten and wife Kara of
Hoisington, Dustin Marsh and wife Morgan and Daniel Marsh, all of Wichita, and
Braydon Snyder of Rosamund, California; and 13 great grandchildren.

He
was preceded in death by his wife; daughter, Jennifer Marsh, 3 infant brothers

Medicalodge of Great Bend.

She was born July 29, 1931 in Memphis, Tennessee to William
and Margaret Crowe Vincent.

A longtime area resident, she was of the Christian faith and
a registered dietician at Larned State Hospital. 

On October 21, 1988 she married Wendell Griffin at Larned;
he preceded her in death on November 12, 2018. 

Survivors include: two daughters, Maggie McIntosh,
Smith Center and Amy Hansen, Texas City, Texas; son, Jack Braley, Bosier City,
Louisiana; three step sons, David (Theresa), Byron and Bruce (Elizabeth) all of
Larned; step daughter, Brenda (Brian) Reed, Larned; brother, Jerry Vincent,
Florida; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her
parents; husband, Wendell; two brothers, Glenn Vincent, Larry Vincent; and a
sister, Jeanie Nance.

“Mickey” Carpenter, 85, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2020 at her home. She
was born March 8, 1935, in Lawrence the daughter of William and Alice (Crane)
Hadl. Mickey was united in marriage to M. John Carpenter on May 2, 1953 at
Ottawa. He passed away September 21, 2004.

Mickey has
been a resident of Great Bend since 1964, coming from Lawrence. She was a
member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lake Barton ladies golf Association,
Stoneridge Country Club. She enjoyed playing bridge, golf, tennis, playing the
organ, gardening, and bird watching. She also had her pilot’s license and
enjoyed flying. Mickey was a gourmet cook, and had a cook book published.

Survivors
include two daughters Chris Klima (Dale), Gail Carpenter (Jane)&nbsp; all of Great Bend; sister Darlene “Dolly”
Carpenter (Robert) of Tulsa, OK; two grandchildren Deena Smith (Christopher)
and Kelly Klima (Darah); five great grandchildren Brayden Smith, Riley Smith,
Adelle Smith, Karson Klima and Demi Klima; and many nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by her husband, parents and eleven brothers and sisters and
her son-in-law Dale Klima.

He graduated from EllinwoodHigh
School in 1960, and served in the U.S. Army upon graduation,
spending several years in Germany.&nbsp; He married Margaret R. Gerritzen on April 24,
1965 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend.&nbsp; He drove truck all his life, employed by
Mid-Continent LP, Marlette Homes and retired after 25 years with Koch
Industries.&nbsp; Marvin was very proud of his
manicured lawn, and enjoyed watching the grass grow just so he could mow it
again.&nbsp; He also dearly loved spending
time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa.&nbsp;&nbsp; He worked in the family owned welding shop,
Kiers Welding in Benkleman, Nebraska.&nbsp; He
liked riding motorcycles and taking trips to Colorado and Missouri to
motorcycle rallies and vacationing with friends. He loved getting together and
shootin’ the bull and reminiscing with family and friends. He enjoyed working
with his staff members at the Larned State Hospital. He enjoyed his computer
and spending time researching and keeping in touch with friends. 

Survivors
include; two brothers, Kenneth and Shirley Kier, Clarksville, Arkansas and
Robert and Karen Kier, Hershey, Nebraska; a sister, Judy Baney, North Platte,

He married Barbara Clements on October 2, 1982, at Great Bend. She survives.

A lifetime
Great Bend resident, Jess was a construction worker. He was a member of the
Eagles, Bikers of Central Kansas, and Big Bend Lake. He liked fishing and
watching westerns but especially enjoyed being with his family and
grandchildren. 

Survivors
include, his wife Barbara Espinosa of the home; two sons, James Pattinson and
girlfriend Denise, and Joseph Pattinson and girlfriend Jennifer, all of Hutch;
two daughters, Anita Stringos and husband George of Arlington, and Kathy Pattinson
of Wichita; six brothers, Lawrence Espinosa, Joe Espinosa, Bobby Espinosa,
Oscar Espinosa, and Butch Espinosa, all of Great Bend, and Gilbert Espinosa of

Baird, 63, passed away Friday July 24, 2020, at Wheatland Health Care in
Kingman. She was born May 2, 1957, in Great Bend the daughter of W.E. and
Theresa (Herrman) Lewis. She married Robert Baird November 15, 1987 in Great
Bend. He passed away September 13, 2010.

Betty has
been a resident of Kingman for three years coming from Pratt. She was a
bookkeeper for Nicholas Water Service. Betty was a member of American Legion
Auxiliary in Pratt and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie Auxiliay and the Elks
Lodge in Pratt. She enjoyed being outside gardening and fishing. She loved
spending time with her family especially the grandchildren.

Survivors
include two sons, Wes Cherry and wife Amy and Austin Caruthers and wife Tracy
all of North Dakota; one daughter Leslie Cherry and fiancé Rick Harrison of
Kingman; two brothers Leon Lewis and wife Della and Ronny Lewis all of Wichita;

Barton and Stafford county resident, Matthew was a truck driver for the Venture
Corporation in Great Bend. He was of the Christian faith and enjoyed guns, video
games and Nascar races. He was a proud father of his son, and uncle to his
nieces and nephews. 

Survivors
include, his mother, Eleanor L. Fertig of St. John; his son, David J. DeBusk of
Scott City; two sisters, Christy DeBusk of Great Bend, and Amanda Feil
(Christopher) of Salina; a brother, Ivor DeBusk of Dodge City; and three
nephews and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond E. DeBusk
and step mother, Linda K. DeBusk; and step father, Jim Fertig.

Larned – Donald Roy Parde, 69, passed away July 20, 2020 at
University of Kansas Health Systems Pawnee Valley Campus, Larned.

He was born August 28, 1950 in Simla, Colorado to Virgil
Oscar and Evelyn Clara Ruth Fienne Parde.

Moving from Belleville, he was an area resident since 2007
and he was of the Catholic faith. He worked as an HVAC Technician. He was a
member of the Belleville Fire Department for twenty-five years, an active cub
scout leader, coached his son’s baseball teams, and enjoyed gardening,
tinkering on things, and listening to music. He loved spending time with his
grandchildren.

On January 1, 1975 he married Donna Rose Heskett at
Belleville; she survives.

Other survivors include: five sons, Christian Parde,
Concordia, Joshua (Nicol) Parde, Belleville, Matthew (Nichol Humburg) Parde,
Argonia, Lucas Parde, Great Bend, Michael Parde, Larned; two sisters, Maxine
Allsman, Palm Springs, California, Carol Williams, Exeter, Nebraska; six
grandchildren, Zachary Parde, Mattea Parde, Caleb Parde, Jacqalyn Parde, Sidney
Parde, Max Parde; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother,

Larned – Donald Roy Parde, 69, passed away July 20, 2020 at
University of Kansas Health Systems Pawnee Valley Campus, Larned.He was born August 28, 1950 in Simla, Colorado to Virgil
Oscar and Evelyn Clara Ruth Fienne Parde.Moving from Belleville, he was an area resident since 2007
and he was of the Catholic faith. He worked as an HVAC Technician. He was a
member of the Belleville Fire Department for twenty-five years, an active cub
scout leader, coached his son’s baseball teams, and enjoyed gardening,
tinkering on things, and listening to music. He loved spending time with his
grandchildren.On January 1, 1975 he married Donna Rose Heskett at
Belleville; she survives.Other survivors include: five sons, Christian Parde,
Concordia, Joshua (Nicol) Parde, Belleville, Matthew (Nichol Humburg) Parde,
Argonia, Lucas Parde, Great Bend, Michael Parde, Larned; two sisters, Maxine
Allsman, Palm Springs, California, Carol Williams, Exeter, Nebraska; six
grandchildren, Zachary Parde, Mattea Parde, Caleb Parde, Jacqalyn Parde, Sidney
Parde, Max Parde; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother,
Virgil Parde.Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be
held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Belleville City Park Fireman’s

"Jim" Daniels, 70, passed away July 18, 2020 at the University of
Kansas Health Systems' Great Bend Campus.&nbsp; Jim was born on December 12,
1949 in Dallas, Texas to Mary Lou Cary and James Daniels and he married Connie
Pedigo on July 28, 1975.

A current Great Bend
resident, Jim was raised in Topeka, Kansas and attended Topeka High
School.&nbsp; Jim enjoyed playing golf and spending time with family and
friends.&nbsp; He especially enjoyed the time spent with his granddaughter
Madyson.

Survivors include his wife,
Connie Daniels of the home, his daughter Rhiannon McNulty and son-in-law Brent
of Wichita, Kansas; his granddaughter Madyson McNulty of Wichita, Kansas; two
Brothers, Marvin Terhune and wife Kathy of Carbondale, Kansas and Randy Terhune
and wife Kim of Maple Hill, Kansas; as well as a sister, Doris Terhune of
Independence, Missouri.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and
sister Roberta Brost.

Graveside Service will be
held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 27, 2020 at the Great Bend Cemetery North with
Reverend Dick Ogle presiding.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, the family has
requested memorials be made to the Education Fund for Madyson McNulty, in care
of Bryant Funeral Home.

Norma Jean Ward

GREAT BEND - Reba J. Raleigh, 96, passed away July 14, 2020, at Medicalodges of Great Bend. She was born June 12, 1924, at Hobart, Okla., the daughter of Clifford C. &amp; Margaret (Jackson) Williams. She married John Richard Raleigh on October 9, 1944, at Frederick, Okla. He died February 20, 1999.

She was employed by Central Kansas Medical Center, Thurman-Morrison and Associates, and Dr. John J. Mingenback. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Great Bend. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include, a son, Joe D. Raleigh and wife Sandra of Wichita; one sister, Merideth Lohn of Willcox, Ariz.; one sister in law, Fern Raleigh of Windom; two granddaughters, Karen Dennett and husband Michael, and Kimberly Foster and husband Henry; five great grandchildren, Tyler Dennett and wife Ashley, Joshua Dennett, Baylea Dennett, John Foster, and Brianna Foster; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John R. Raleigh; and three sisters, Erma Mansell, Lorene Watson, and June Lyde.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 17, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home. Reba J. Raleigh

Roberta Joan Haley, 87, died July 12, 2020, at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. She was born January 19, 1933, in Gypsum, Kansas, the daughter of Robert J. and Mayola Fae (Beatty) Haley.

A longtime Claflin resident, Roberta cleaned houses and was a babysitter to many of the children in the community. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and Daughters of Isabella Circle #744.

Survivors include; a brother, Dennis Haley of Merrionette Park, Illinois; sisters, Mary Barta of Holyrood, and Patricia Haley of Ellinwood; 4 neices and several great neices and nephews.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday and Friday at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 18th, 2020, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Claflin, celebrated by Father Terrance Klein. Interment will follow later at 2:00 p.m., in St. Patrick Cemtery, Gypsum.
