Rockie Joe Jones, 75, passed away on June 20, 2022, at home in Great Bend, Kansas. He was born on July 17, 1946, at Pittsburg, Kansas to Earl and Noami (Neil) Jones. Rockie married Patricia Jarvis on January 05, 1971, in McPherson, Kansas. She survives.

A long-time resident of Great Bend coming from McPherson 28 years ago, Rockie worked as a service manager. He served clients of McPherson Business Machines, Central Office Products, and Office Products, Inc. He was an avid motorcyclist and a member of the Flatlanders Car Club.

Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Kris (Sara) Jones of Goddard; four grandchildren, Sienna (Nolan) Carmine, Madison, Leo and Ava Jones; one great-grandson, Nash Carmine; a brother, Neil Snyder of Colo.; and a sister, Penny Northness of N.M. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Services are pending for a later date. Memorials have been designated to American Cancer Society, Kindred Hospice, or Shriner Family Scholarship, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Scott L. Thein, age 69 years, Of Great Bend, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Aster Estates in Great Bend.&nbsp; Scott was born in Seattle, Washington and grew up in San Diego, California.&nbsp; 

He attended the University of California Berkeley where he graduated with high honors and was awarded a degree in philosophy.&nbsp; He then moved to New York City, New York, where he lived for over 40 years.&nbsp; It was there that he picked up a pencil and began to chronicle his experience of life within the warrens of the urban grid.&nbsp; Most recently Scott moved to Great Bend, Kansas to be among friends.&nbsp; He is survived by a brother Stephen Thein.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 

Scott was an artist, a melancholic philosopher and critic of the human condition.&nbsp; He had an analytical intellect that bordered on tragic genius.&nbsp; His art and his conversation revealed an obsessive need to expose inner connections and workings hidden beneath mundane social realities.&nbsp; Scott had a particular love and spiritual connection to the writings of Martin Heidegger.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 

In one exhibition, Scott used drawings, done on cast off shopping bags, to illustrate the famous philosopher’s way of interpreting the world.&nbsp; In his introduction to the series “Heidegger’s Ghost” he wrote, “… the shopping bag in becoming abandoned, useless, refuse, is becoming its own unique ontology which can then be transformed into a work of art.” Which is to say that when something or someone no longer fulfills its assigned function in the world and loses its labels it can be seen with new eyes. Scott embraced this sense of estrangement in his life and his art.&nbsp; He says in the same essay that our personal feelings of alienation “seem strange to us and in its strangeness we can picture it and we can draw it.”&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Scott Thein, age 69

Kevin Otis Gross, 55, Passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022 at his residence in Larned. He was born Dec. 3, 1966 in Wichita, the son of Vern “Bud” and Loretta Belisle Gross. An area resident, he was a construction worker in Dodge City.

Kevin was known for having a green thumb and growing anything, especially tomatoes. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, music, cooking, fishing, anything outdoors, and the Green Bay Packers. He especially loved his grandkids, kids, and family.

On Oct. 2, 1993, he married Brenda F. Musgrove in Great Bend. She survives.

Other survivors include: his mother, Loretta Gross, Forreston, TX.; one son, Brandon Gross, Great Bend; two daughters, Tasha (Luke) Lloyd, Larned, and Jacy (Seth) Gross, Larned; four brothers, Paul (Tina) Gross, Wichita, Steve Gross, Spearville, Danny (Karen) Gross, Schererville, IN. and Terry Gross, Miami, OK; one sister, Kimberly Gross, Forreston, TX.; six grandchildren, Anna Marie, Graydon Lee, LaShauna Kay, Memphis Bradley, Willow Grace, Laynee Faye, and many nieces and nephews and adopted kids.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vern “Bud” Gross and his right-hand man, dog Mystery.

Riley Jo Bieberle, was born on June 17, 2022, in Merriam, Kan., the infant daughter of Ryan and Kelsey (LaRocco) Bieberle. She passed away peacefully with her loving parents by her side at Advent Health – Shawnee Misson in Merriam, Kan., on Friday, June 17, 2022.

While only here with us on Earth for a short time, precious memories were made with Riley Jo, surrounded by love from family both far and near. Through her passing due to complications due to Trisomy 18, she was able to bring awareness and add a perfect little face to the affect, not just a diagnosis. Her family is at great peace knowing she is in heaven, was greatly loved, and will forever cherish the 35 weeks and time in the hospital with her.

Survivors include her parents; grandparents, Amy Wright of Overland Park, Kan., Mike (Kathy) Crellin of Olathe, Kan., Glen and Starla Bieberle of Hoisington, Kan.; great-grandparents, Jim and Cindi LaRocco of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Viola Glanville of Great Bend, Kans.; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is preceded in death by a grandfather, Tony LaRocco; and great-grandparents, Leonard and June Wright, Harold Glanville, Gilbert Bieberle, Dolores and Jim Westbrook, and Grandma Perez.

Molly Faye Blair, 65, passed away June 18, 2022, at University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus.. She was born Aug. 5, 1956, in Great Bend, to George and Effie (Larkin) Blair.

Molly, a long-time resident of Great Bend and Albert, was a faithful 22-year employee of Walmart, serving as a stocker and checking clerk. She attended Heartland Community Church, was a former member of the American Legion Riders Post #180, and enjoyed diamond art and, in the past, riding her motorcycle with her twin sister, Polly. In recent years, Molly and Polly provided daycare for Baen Hamilton, who they have loved like their own.

Survivors include two brothers, Billy R. Blair and wife Gene of Salina, and Roger J. Blair and wife Jacque of Scott City; and two sisters Linda K. Worley and husband Mark of Pomona, and twin sister, Polly G. Blair of Great Bend; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many cousins, including Stacey Tiede of Great Bend.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Troy Miller presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery. Dortha Jean Batchman, 60, passed away June 17, 2022, at Via Christ St. Francis, Wichita. She was born Aug. 13, 1961, in St. John, to Leonard and Florene (Kendall) Batchman.

A lifetime resident of Great Bend, Dortha attended First Church of the Nazarene, Great Bend, and enjoyed reading, word searches and writing letters to her family. She was a longtime client and employee of Sunflower Diversified Services, with a broad range of skills, from manufacturing pallets to the delicate craft of making tea towels.

Survivors include one sister, Diane Lewis and husband Glen of Great Bend; two aunts Barbara Phillips of Hutchinson and Laura Lou Rodarmel of St. John; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Debra Hapes.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Rev. Wade Russell presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend. Dortha Batchman, age 60

Courtney Dawn Towery-Thorne, 28, passed away June 17, 2022 in Larned. She was born April 28, 1994 in Great Bend, the daughter of Scott and Sheila VanBuskirk Towery. A lifetime area resident, she was a child care professional and loved teaching “littles.”

She was a member of First Christian Church, Larned. Courtney enjoyed all animals, loved succulents and crafts and was Miss Fort Larned in 2011. She liked her farm and especially her cows, Caroline and Eclipse, and her chicken, Pearl.

On May 1, 2015 she married Dakota Thorne in Larned. He survives.

Other survivors include: father, Scott (Cheyenna) Towery, Larned; son, Kaden Thorne, Larned; brother, Cameron Bubb, New York; sister, Samantha Towery, Tulsa, OK; step-brother, Raven Bethel, Larned and a grandfather, Elvin Towery.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Sheila Towery.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be at a later date.

Pamela Sue Starbuck Patrick, age 72, passed away June 12, 2022, at her home in Broomfield, Colo. She was born on Feb. 9, 1950, in Great Bend, the daughter of Paul and Frances (Bendon) Starbuck. She married Ian Patrick on Sept. 1, 2000, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Pam graduated from Great Bend High School in 1968 and Kansas State University in 1972. She retired from The University of Colorado at Boulder as a Property Accountant. Pam was a lover of many things: her family and friends, animals, architecture, travel, and genealogy to name a few. She was an avid supporter of our military veterans having been influenced by the service of many family members, especially her father.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-daughters Sterling Creager and Tracy Patrick, and brother-in-law Colin Patrick. Survivors include her husband, Ian Patrick, loving pet companion, Rigby, brother Mike (Rhonda) Starbuck of Oologah, Oklahoma, nephew Andy (Trish) Starbuck of Colby, Kansas, niece Audrey (Craig) Dye of Oologah, Oklahoma, nephew Michael Patrick of Reno, Nevada, and niece Kelley Odriozola of LaVerne, California; great-nephews and nieces Drew and Anna Starbuck, Colby, Kansas, and Elliott, Darcy and Quinnlyn Dye, Oologah, Oklahoma, as well as numerous dear friends and family.

Celebration of life and graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 25, 2022, at Great Bend Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Great Bend Humane Society or the Great Bend American Legion Post 180, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Pamela Starbuck Patrick, age 72

Joseph “Joe” L. Yeager, 73, passed away June 14, 2022 at Via Christi Village in Hays, Kansas.

He was born April 6, 1949 in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of James and Phyllys Sweetland Yeager.

Moving from Overland Park, Kansas, he was an area resident since 2017. He worked in manufacturing with a career ranging from welding and plastics production to design and sales. Joe was a lifelong artist, focusing on photography, screen printing, and woodwork. He was a member of the Argonne Rebels Drum and Bugle Corps of Great Bend, Kansas from 1965 to 1970, marching in the corps’ color guard and rifle squad. Joe also served on the corps’ instructional staff during the early 1970’s.

Survivors include: his son, Patrick Yeager, Riva, Maryland; brother, Jeff (Jan) Yeager, Omaha, Nebraska; ex-wife, Joyce, Pasadena, Maryland; two granddaughters, Audrey and Lucie; two nieces, Leah (Michael) Yeager Schmit, Omaha, Nebraska, and Laura Yeager, Kansas City, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Phyllys Yeager.

Cremation has taken place and pending arrangements will be announced at a later date.

Joseph 'Joe' Yeager, age 73

Gladys Lorene Young, 93, passed away June 14, 2022, at Parklane Nursing Home in Scott City. She was born on November 22, 1928, at Dighton, to Pete &amp; Retta (McClelland) Eitel. She married Estel “Pepper” Van Pelt on December 21, 1946, at Scott City. He died December 4, 1988. She then married Okie Burgess Young on May 26, 1990, at Scott City. He died October 19, 2013.

A Great Bend resident for eight years, Gladys was a longtime Dighton resident, having previously resided in Arizona for a short time. She was a former member of the Dighton Methodist Church. Gladys was an avid golfer who achieved four "Holes in One" and was previously a Scott City Golf Club Champion. In her early years, Gladys enjoyed bowling. She especially loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include, two sons, Regan Van Pelt (Bertie Reynolds) of McPherson and Ryan Van Pelt and wife Ruth of Great Bend; a daughter, Marlene Murphy and husband Larry of Scott City; six grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Estel Van Pelt and Okie Young; two brothers, Orville Eitel and Howard Eitel; two sisters, Evelyn Bretz and LaVona Murphy; and a great granddaughter, Andrea Murphy.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the Dighton Cemetery in Dighton, Kan. with Pastor Steven Payne presiding. Loreta Jo “Reta” Brack, 87, passed away June 13, 2022, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was born July 13, 1934, at Earlsboro, Okla., the daughter of Willard and Lorene (Alfrey) Hill. The family moved to Hoisington in 1943. She attended school in Hoisington, graduating in 1952 and attended Business College in Oklahoma.

Reta married Karl L. Brack on September 28, 1958, and they resided in Great Bend. He died December 7, 2014. She worked as a secretary in the oil industry for many years. Reta was a member of First Christian Church and was an active participant in the ladies organizations of the church, American Legion Post #180 Auxiliary, RSVP, Great Bend Food Bank and the Barton County Historical Society. She was an avid golfer and was also a member of Lake Barton Ladies Golf Association. She delivered Meals on Wheels for over 20 years and was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 2012.

Survivors include, two sons, Brad Brack and wife Phyllis of Great Bend and Scott Brack and wife Rhonda of Wichita; five grandchildren, Ashlea Noonan and husband Ryan, Andrea Bauer and husband Rob, Lexie Miller and husband Karl, Zachary Brack and wife Jessica and Taylor Brack; and six great grandchildren, Aubrey Noonan, Ellie Noonan, Claire Noonan, Brock Bauer, Wesley Bauer and Mason Bauer. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Karl Brack.

Jack T. Dunn, Jr., 80, passed away on June 13, 2022, at University of Kansas Medical Center – Great Bend Campus in Great Bend, Kansas. He was born on October 21, 1941 to Jack T. &amp; Bessie (Pease) Dunn in Welch, Okla. Jack married Cheryl Thompson; they later divorced. On December 17, 1965, he married Janet Mullen in Great Bend, Kansas. She passed away in 1981. He then married Joann Boling on November 9, 1990 in Great Bend.

A long-time resident of Great Bend, Jack worked for many years as a chemical engineer for Davis Mud and Chemical, Inc., followed by 35 years in IT for Doonan Trailer. He loved spending time riding his motorcycle and with his family.

Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, Bradley (Teri) Thompson of Elk City, Okla., Jack T. (Jennifer) Dunn, III of Eudora, Kan., Michael (Cathy) Dunn of Leavenworth, Kan., and Dusty (Dusty) Davis of Ennis, Tex.; twelve grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Janet Mullen; his parents; a daughter, Michelle Dunn; and a brother, James Dunn.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Larry Schumacher presiding. Jack Dunn, age 80

Larry Fred Barnes, 74, passed away June 7, 2022 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, KS.

He was born November 26, 1947 in Goodland, KS, the son of John and Evelyn Schindler Barnes. He moved to Larned in 1978 with his wife Peggy. She passed in April 1989. He was a mechanic/ parts manager for Chevrolet dealerships for many years.

Most of His life revolved around cars. He used to drag race and enjoyed racing remote control cars. He loved his kids and grandkids.

Survivors include: three sons, Leonard Barnes, St. Francis, KS, Dustin Barnes, Larned, KS, Blain Barnes, Conway Springs, KS; daughter, Amber Barnes, Goodland, KS; five grandchildren, Jonathan Barnes, Eric Barnes, Aidan Barnes, Kutter Barnes, Conley Barnes and three great grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial graveside will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2022 at Larned Cemetery, Larned with Bob Sallee presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2022.

Larry Barnes, age 74

Ramona Tefft, 91, a longtime resident of Great Bend, now residing in Wichita, Kansas, passed away June 8, 2022, at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita. She was born in Hoisington, Kansas, on August 23, 1930, the daughter of Willard “Bus” &amp; Frances Fern (Kent) Hall. Ramona married Maurice R. Tefft on June 26, 1949, in Hoisington. Maurice passed away on November 10, 1980. She and Maurice were members of the First United Methodist Church in Great Bend for many years.

Ramona was a graduate of Hoisington High School. Following graduation, she briefly worked as a bookkeeper, then once married, she and Maurice moved to Great Bend. She became a full-time homemaker, until he passed. She then went to work at Westwood Racquetball Club as a bookkeeper, then became a traveling relief care companion for Loving Care, Inc., of Pratt, Kansas. At age 70, she retired and moved to Olathe, Kansas, then to Wichita, Kansas, at age 80 to be near her eldest daughter’s family. She kept very busy playing bridge at many of the local senior centers three times a week, until her health declined.

Survivors include, a daughter, Maureen (Dave) Henning of Wichita, Kan.; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Hall of Martinez, Ga.; a son-in-law, Bruce Brooks of Lawrence, Kan.; three grandchildren, Erin Brooks of Lawrence, Kan., Megan Brooks of Shawnee, Kan. and Michelle (Mike) Cottingham of Wichita, Kan.; 4 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Tefft; a daughter, Shelley V. Brooks; her sister, Aileen Bryant; and two brothers, Bob and Kent Hall.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home. Ramona Tefft, age 91

Gayle Sharon (Royset) Unruh, 80, passed away May 30, 2022, at Azria Health in Great Bend, KS. She was born on May 20, 1942, to Sigurd and Borghild (Fugleston) Royset in Hettinger, North Dakota. 

After graduating High School she worked at the local bank and soon met her first husband, Rueben. They moved to Phoenix, AZ where they ran a successful transmission business together. After he passed, she met Loren Unruh and they were married on January 2, 1988 in Great Bend, KS. She quickly joined Loren in helping with the Black Angus and Best Western Angus Inn with her unique interior decorating style. Gayle loved shopping, traveling, reading and time spent with family and friends, especially the grandkids. 

She is survived by husband, Loren Unruh of Great Bend, KS; two step daughters, Shawnda (Stan) Misina of Wilton, NH and Krista (Rich) Osborne of Riverdale, NJ; grandchildren, Dake (Kristi) Unruh of Benton, KS, Priscilla (Travis) Wilson of Wilton, NH, Benjamin Garcia of Alpine, TX, Darian (Taylor) Unruh of Park City,KS, Haley (Hunter) Gullion of Springfield, MO, Rich (Yoseline) Osborne of Alexandria, VA and Ryan Osborne of Riverdale, NJ; great grandchildren, Sadie, Londyn, Tate and Landon Unruh, Liam and Savannah Wilson, Emma and Brayden Gullion; brother Gary Royset of Poulsbo, WA, sister Karen (Jon) Jennings of Gilbert, AZ; nephews Dan (Lisa) Anderson, Tim (Barbara) Mattis and Ted Jennings; nieces, Pam (Pat) Mattix, DeAnne (Dan) Berwald, Karmin (Ted) Billadeau, Deb (Rick) Royset-Jones, Dona Warwick and Sandi (Tim) Butts; great nieces Megan and Paige Billadeau. Gayle (Royset) Unruh, age 80

Dennis "Mark" Castle passed away May 20 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Born Nov. 1, 1952 in Lynwood, Calif. He was the son of Denzel and Virama (Strother) Castle. Mark married Janice Koochel on May 12, 1972, in Albert. They were married 50 years.&nbsp;Mark worked at Parts Inc. for over 30 years before his retirement. He enjoyed collecting WWII memorabilia and was a member of a WWII re-enactment group. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Mark is survived by his wife, Janice, of Great Bend; two daughters, Diane Castle and Dedra Castle, both of Great Bend; two grandsons, Matthew Castle of Great Bend and Nathan Roraback of Douglas, Neb.; and his sister Denise Parmley and her husband William of Chino, Calif. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Larned – Theodore V. “Teddy” Gingrich, 80, passed away June 6, 2022 at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, KS.

He was born October 12, 1941 in Larned, the son of Ted Warder and Lola Emma Buhrer Gingrich. A lifetime area resident, he was a Farmer/Stockman.

He was a member of the Church of Christ, St. John, where he served as an Elder. He enjoyed Church, Farming and spending time with family and his dog, Roxie.

On October 22, 1961, he married Carol Ann McBride in St. John, KS. She survives.

Other survivors include: three daughters, Shari (Jim) Soukup, Desert Hills, AZ, Serena (Tim) Neidig, Belpre, KS, Lori (Brent) LaMar, Desert Hills, AZ; two sisters, Martha (Vince) Guzzo, Overland Park, KS, Vivian Johnston, Lenexa, KS; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dog, Roxie.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Larned United Methodist Church with Carl Feril presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2022 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Inurnment will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Zook, KS.

Theordore 'Teddy' Gingrich, age 80

Michelle Janette Kaiser, 55, died June 6, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita, Kansas. She was born October 24, 1966, in Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Martin James and Kary Sue (Overbaugh) Miller. Michelle was a 1985 graduate for Hoisington High School and went on to graduate from Barton County Community College.

On October 24, 1987, she married Randy Joseph Kaiser at Concordia Lutheran Church in Hoisington.

A lifetime Hoisington area resident, Michelle was a teacher at Roosevelt Elementary School in Hoisington. She started as a teacher’s aide in 1988 and has been a 3 year old pre-school teacher formany years. Each child was deeply loved and cared for under her guidance.

A strong woman of faith, Michelle was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church where she taught both Sunday School and Bible School, and was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the church choir. She also attended Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a member of the bell choir.

Michelle was born and raised on a dairy farm and always loved to work with animals. She was involved in the Eureka Homesteaders 4-H Club as a child, showing dairy cows, and later as a leader with her children. She loved summers on the farm helping with harvest, whether it was driving truck, tractor or the combine or helping prepare the meal with her mother.

Survivors include; her husband of 34 years, Randy Joseph Kaiser of the home; and three children, Brianna Rachelle Boller and husband Sean of Garden City, Sarah Sue Wilson and husband Christian of Colby, and Jeffrey James Kaiser and fiance Amy Christopher of Hoisington; parents, Jim and Kary Miller of Hoisington; sister, Cynthia Lockwood and husband Kent of Great Bend; and brothers, Troy Miller and wife Carrie, and Mark Miller, all of Great Bend; mother-in-law, Shirley Miller of Hoisington; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and most importantly her two grandchildren, Emerson Grace Boller and Olivia James Wilson.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Martin &amp; Juanita Miller, and Fred &amp; Beulah Overbaugh, and father-in-law, Walter Kaiser.

Visitation will be Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, with family to greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Friday, June 10, 2022, at Concordia Lutheran Church, with Pastor Gary Wolf presiding. Burial will follow in Hoisington Cemetery.

Michelle Kaiser, age 55

Ruth Pauline Corbett, 93, passed away at Ellinwood District Hospital on June 5, 2022. Born on Nov. 21, 1928 on the family farm south of Odin, she was the 10th child of Joseph and Anna (Seus) Hekele. 

She attended both grade and high school in Odin,&nbsp;graduating in 1946. She attended Saint Rose Nursing School in Great Bend, graduating in 1949 as a Registered Nurse. Ruth worked at St. Rose Hospital in the surgical department until 1952. Later she worked at Ellinwood District Hospital for several years. She married Edwin L. Corbett Jr. July 21, 1953 at Holy Name Church in Odin, KS. The couple settled in Ellinwood where they raised five children. Edwin passed away in 1984. In 1968, Ruth was hired as School Nurse for Ellinwood District 355, retiring in 1993.

Ruth was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, Heritage Club and the Altar Society. She was also a member of the Retired School Personnel of Barton County.

Ruth had a servant heart. This was demonstrated both in her nursing but also in her love for the church. She enjoyed crocheting everything from baby blankets to Christmas ornaments. She crocheted over 200 different snowflake ornaments for the St. Joseph Church in Ellinwood.

Survivors include four children, Ed (Debra) Corbett of Olathe; Mike (Sharlene) Corbett of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Jim (Jeanie) Corbett and Kevin (Julie) Corbett of Ellinwood; son in law, Ralph Herrman of Ellinwood. Ruth is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; daughter, Debbie Herrman; sisters, Mary Hekele, Tillie Springer, and Rose Schwartz; brothers, John Hekele, Martin Hekele, Frank Hekele, Arthur Hekele, Alex Hekele and Joseph Hekele.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 9 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood with Father Terrance Klein officiating. Interment will follow at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery, Ellinwood. Visitation will take place Wednesday, June 8 from noon- 6 p.m. at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood, with Altar Society Rosary at 3 p.m. Vigil service will take place 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at St. Joseph Church, Ellinwood. Lilah Elizabeth Folkerts, 90, passed away on May 27, 2022 at home in Great Bend. She was born on September 12, 1931 to Louis &amp; Martha (Steitz) Folkerts, of Rush Center.

Lilah attended a country grade school and graduated from Larned High School in 1949. She worked for many years as a Loan Officer at First National Bank and Trust in Larned. Lilah moved to Great Bend and worked part-time, retiring due to health issues.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and one infant brother, Lyle Kenneth Folkerts.

Nelda F. Boele, age 80, of Alden, Kansas and formerly of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away on Sunday morning, June 5, 2022 at the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson, Kansas after a sudden illness.&nbsp; Nelda was born on June 19, 1941 at Westville, Oklahoma to Caleb and Zola (Fusselman) Crowder and grew up in Ault, Colorado.&nbsp; She was united in marriage to Robert L. Boele on June 19, 1977 at Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; Nelda and Robert lived in Great Bend until Robert’s death in 2010, at which time she moved to Alden, Kansas.&nbsp; Nelda loved to drive, and loved to do Diamond Art, crossword puzzles and word search puzzles, and loved (and at times hated) John and Tracey’s dog Copper.&nbsp; She was also well-known for her cherry cheesecake.&nbsp; Nelda was active with the Silver Threads &amp; Friendship Meals at Sterling, Kansas.

Nelda Boele, age 80

Burdett – Elijah Alexander Norris, 17, passed away June 4, 2022 at his home in Burdett.

He was born January 5, 2005 in Hays, Kansas, the son of Geoffrey C. Norris and Irina Sretenski. A lifetime resident of Burdett, he enjoyed working with his father at Norris Propane and Norris Farms, where he had a passion for farming and mechanic work.

He was a member of Faith Fellowship Church, Gray, Kansas. Elijah was a perfectionist, had a strong work ethic and was a connoisseur of Snap-On Tools. He had the ability and talent to fix anything and loved helping friends and family. He was never afraid to let you know what he was thinking.

Survivors include: parents, Geoffrey C. Norris and Irina Sretenski, both of Burdett; sister, Marie Norris (Hayden), Burdett; grandmother, Valentina and great grandmother, Anna.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at Faith Fellowship Church, Gray, Kansas, with Pastor Doug Ellison presiding.  </figure>Burdett – Elijah Alexander Norris, 17, passed away June 4, 2022 at his home in Burdett.He was born January 5, 2005 in Hays, Kansas, the son of Geoffrey C. Norris and Irina Sretenski. A lifetime resident of Burdett, he enjoyed working with his father at Norris Propane and Norris Farms, where he had a passion for farming and mechanic work.He was a member of Faith Fellowship Church, Gray, Kansas. Elijah was a perfectionist, had a strong work ethic and was a connoisseur of Snap-On Tools. He had the ability and talent to fix anything and loved helping friends and family. He was never afraid to let you know what he was thinking.Survivors include: parents, Geoffrey C. Elijah Norris, age 17

Gary Alan Biles, 75, passed away June 4, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. He was born August 19, 1946, in Great Bend, to Orville and Thelma (Cain) Biles. Gary married Julita (Campbell) Howard Aug. 10, 1994, in Russell.

Gary had been a Hoisington resident since 1996, coming from Russell and Larned, and spent most of his growing up years in Palco. Gary was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Hoisington, SRCA, former member of the Mid America MOPAR Association, and enjoyed drag racing, fishing and hunting in his younger years. During his more active career years, Gary managed a fuel station in Larned, worked in construction and the oilfield, and was a mechanic, plumber and carpenter. Never having idle hands, more recently his time was occupied with lawn care, landscaping and tireless volunteerism.

Survivors include his wife, Julita of the home; children, Jeremy Biles (Kellie) of Jasper Mo., Ondrya Hardten (Jerry) of Great Bend, Christine Schultz (Jared) of Ellsworth, Sheri Howard of Virginia City, Minn., and John D. Howard, III of Wahiawa, Hawaii; one brother, Rick Biles of Russell; one sister Sara Billinger (John) of Hill City; 15 grandchildren, Kirk Mannette, Alyssa Mannette, Taylor Biles, Katelyn Biles, Kylee Biles, Aaron Scheck, James Waller, Caitlynn Waller, Emily Waller, Ryan Schultz, Addie Rose Schultz, Samantha Howard, Ava Haavisto, Alexis Howard and Lily Howard; and four great grandchildren, Michael Mannette, Kaiser Mannette, Magnolia Biles, James Logan Waller.

He was preceded in death by one brother, John Biles; and two sisters, infant Sharon Biles and Joan Biles.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2022, at First United Methodist Church, Hoisington, with Rev. Chris Lehew presiding. Cremation will take place at a later date. Gary Biles, age 75

Margaret Marie Zecha, 96, passed away June 3, 2022, at Diversicare of Larned. She was born on June 9, 1925, in Hitschmann to William and Clara (Hoffman) Krier. She married Irvin Steve Zecha on April 29, 1947. He died August 22, 1990.

A resident of Great Bend since 1947, coming from Claflin, Margaret was an active owner and operator of Irvin S. Zecha Custom Combining/Irvin S. Zecha and Sons Custom Combining from 1947 to 1990, cooking tirelessly for the crew. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend, Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed gardening, puzzles, volunteering at Riley School, and playing cards with her family and friends. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family.

Survivors include, four sons, Rocky Zecha (Cindy), Kelly Zecha (Rehna) and Kirk Zecha (Jill) all of Great Bend, and Clay Zecha (Kristine) of Maize; a daughter, Brenda Flynn (Don) of Great Bend; a sister, Catherine Seifert of Hunter; and 25 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Irvin Zecha; a son, Ronald Zecha; her brother, Bernard Krier and his wife Marilyn; a granddaughter, Amanda Zecha; and a brother-in-law Gene Seifert.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday June 8, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Altar Society Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and Vigil service with Daughters of Isabella Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., June 9, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Margaret Zecha, age 96

Tom B. Huslig, 74, passed away June 2, 2022, at Good Samaritan Society, Ellsworth. He was born March 30, 1948, in Wichita, to Bernard and Marie (Riedel) Huslig.

Tom, a lifetime resident of the Claflin area, was a farmer, enjoying all aspects of farm life (except fixing fence), especially mowing the farm yard. Tom attended Immaculate Conception School and graduated from Claflin High School in 1967. Tom was a member the Sunflower Polka Club, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Claflin, Knights of Columbus Council #2630, Odin, and was an Altar Server for 42 years. He was especially fond of being an uncle and great uncle and passionate about Claflin football and basketball.

Survivors include three nieces Tina Firgens (Keith), Lisa Pflughoeft-Goetz (Todd) and Diana Brooks (Brycin); great nieces and nephews, Paige Goetz, Tyler Goetz, Peyton Firgens and Logan Firgens; and one brother-in-law, Father Russ Mower of Dallas. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Vickie Mower.

Mass of Christian Burial will 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2022, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Claflin, with Father Terrance Klein and Father Russ Mower Concelebrating.
