Francis Joseph Haberman, 96, passed away on December 28, 2022, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington, Kan. He was born on October 03, 1926, in Great Bend, Kan., to Frank and Bertha (Skolaut) Haberman. On November 19, 1952, he married Coleta Elizabeth Schafer. She passed on April 25, 2018.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Francis spent his working years as a technician at the Natural Gas Plant, as well as a farmer for 75 years. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patricks Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus #862 - serving as a 3rd Degree Knight, the Eagles Club, V.F.W. Post #3111, and the Sunflower Polka Club. Francis enjoyed playing cards with friends and spending time with his family.

Survivors include a son, David (Elaine) Haberman of Hays; a daughter, Debbie (Geoff) Tracy of Great Bend; six grandchildren, Audrey (Jeff) Rummel, Joe Haberman, Kimberly (Wesley) Georgeson, Jake Haberman, Matthew (Letecia) Tracy, and Spencer Tracy; eleven great-grandchildren, Nathan Rummel, Jesse McDougal, Jared Rummel, Jade Rummel, Jet Georgeson, Stella Georgeson, Whitely Georgeson, Aiden Tracy, Christopher Tracy, Carver Tracy, and Declan Tracy; and one great-great-grandchild, Aria Tracy. He is preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and a sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Dr. Donald Blake.

Visitation will take place from noon to 8:00 p.m. with family receiving guests from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2023, followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary and Vigil at 7:00 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Prakash Kola presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery. Kathrine Bessie Younger Ochs, 74, Hays, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2022, at HaysMed.

She was born Feb. 10, 1948, in Garden City, the daughter of Harry E. and Alice (Ruedigar) Ochs. She grew up in Great Bend, and was a graduate of Lebanon High School in Lebanon, Kan. Kathrine was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hays, and worked in Russell as a nurse aide at Wheatland Nursing Home and as a medication aide for DSNWK. She had an awesome sense of humor and enjoyed working in her yard growing flowers, cooking, sewing, doing crafts, and beautifully painting ceramics.

Survivors include her son: Robert James Younger, Jr. and Marie Clark of Great Bend; two daughters, Kristina Elizabeth Younger of Hays and Angelina Marie Younger of Russell; one brother, Clyde Ochs of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one sister, Jonna Leach and husband Bill of Hays; six grandchildren, Alyssa Scott, Vincent Scott, Saeed Aquil, Jessica Younger, Treaver Younger, and Zachary Younger, and one great-granddaughter, Lexi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Ed Ochs, and an infant brother.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, with Deacon Dave Kisner officiating. Kathrine Ochs, age 74

Gladys Marie Durand (Depiesse), 86, passed away peacefully on the evening of December 26th, 2022. She was born on August 18, 1936 in the area of Dubuque and Beaver, rural northeast Barton County, Kansas. She remained on the farm until graduating from Claflin High School in 1954.

Gladys was married on October 10th, 1959 to her husband JaDean “Jay” Durand at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Dubuque, Kansas. They were married for over 63 years. Gladys and Jay had two daughters, Joni Kennedy of Great Bend, Kansas and Jacqueline Medina of Longmont, Colorado.

Gladys will be remembered as a hard worker who managed her family responsibilities with a positive and caring attitude. She lived her life as a go-getter and loved making fun memories with family and friends. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, working in the garden, and going on walks.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Theresa Depiesse (Schremmer) of Redwing, Kansas, three brothers, LaVerne, Larry, and Marlin “Butch” Depiesse, and one grandchild, Austin Medina.

She is survived by her husband Jay Durand and their two daughters, Joni Kennedy and husband Kurt, and Jacqueline Medina. Also, her sister Geraldine Bieberle and brother Ed Depiesse. She leaves behind five grandchildren, Ryan Kennedy, Natalie Van Horn (Denton), Aimee Cazares (Denton), Brett Kennedy, and Anthony Medina, as well as three great-grandchildren, Claire, Conor, and Chani Kennedy. She cared for her grandchildren and great grandchildren very much.

A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 2, 2023, at 1:00 pm at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Great Bend, Kansas, with Father Prakash Kola presiding. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Gladys (Depiesse) Durand, age 86

Maxine Joyce Peter, 89, of Ellinwood passed away on November 4, 2022, at Bethany Home in Lindsborg, Kansas.

Mom was born in Ellinwood, Kansas on March 28, 1933, to Arden and Darlene Crossley.&nbsp; She attended Ellinwood Grade School and Ellinwood High School graduating in 1951.&nbsp; She met her future husband (our father), Duane Peter, in high school.&nbsp; It wasn’t until after high school that they began to date, and he became the love of her life.&nbsp; She graduated with a diploma in business from the Adela Hale School in Hutchinson in 1952. Later, she graduated from Barton County Community College with an associate degree in business.&nbsp; Education was always important to mom, and she encouraged that to us.&nbsp; She stressed education all throughout our lives, so we considered it a given that we follow her marching orders. Of the four of us, there are six bachelor’s degrees, and two master’s degrees.&nbsp; We have a clinical laboratory scientist, two music educators, and a CPA.

We grew up in a typical household back in the late 50s through the 80s.&nbsp; We knew our parents loved us very much. They wanted us to be happy and grow up to be good people and good citizens.&nbsp; We were nestled living close to lots of cousins, aunts and uncles, and grandparents. We loved growing up in Ellinwood and that was the world to us.

Throughout mom’s life, she held several jobs. Mom went to work for the electrical cooperative in Great Bend after graduation from school and continued to work there until her second child, Nancy, was born in 1960.&nbsp; Later in life, mom did secretarial work for Thompson Construction and Barton County Community College.&nbsp; She also enjoyed selling Avon and Mary Kay for many years.&nbsp; Her most important job though, was raising her four children.&nbsp; Dad was often in Tribune farming while Maxine had to hold down the fort in Ellinwood. Her children were her life.&nbsp; She attended everything they were in.&nbsp; She was always incredibly supportive of us, even when we got older, and then her grandchildren.&nbsp; She drove all over the state to watch her children perform, Lori and Nancy’s students’ performances, or watching Don and Craig run-in races. She even often participated in the races by running herself.&nbsp; While her body allowed it, she continued driving across the state for her grandchildren’s birthdays and other activities. When her life crippling disease slowed her down, she was only a block from where two of her grandchildren in Lindsborg attended school, so she was still able to catch their concerts and tennis matches.&nbsp;&nbsp;

While we were younger, she volunteered to help with Sunday school, Brownies, Cub Scouts, and Girl Scouts.&nbsp; Mom loved to stay active in every way.&nbsp; She was an exercise enthusiast; and was often spotted walking or jogging in the community. She and Dad enjoyed playing in Bridge Club together, but she was also very involved in her women’s Bridge Club, Tri-Circle, Unit, and the Red Hat Club.&nbsp; She was a founding member of the Wheat Bowl, served on the Kansas Tourism Committee, was a former President of the Ellinwood Chamber of Commerce, and past Grand Marshal of the After Harvest Festival Parade.&nbsp; She traveled the state promoting Ellinwood and the surrounding area at festivals, including the Kansas State Fair.&nbsp; She was involved with Ellinwood Area Enterprises and tourism projects, such as the Barton County Centennial Parade and the Ellinwood Gateway to Cheyenne Bottoms sign on the west side of town.&nbsp; She also served in an official capacity with the Barton County Democratic Party. She was dedicated to her family and the Ellinwood community.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; Mom was preceded in death by her parents, Arden and Darlene Crossley; her brother, Gaylen Crossley; and her husband, our father, Duane Peter.&nbsp; She is survived by her four children; Don Peter (Carol Steele) of Leawood, Kansas; Nancy Green of Scott City, Kansas; Craig Peter of Prairie Village, Kansas and Lori (Sean) Nelson of Lindsborg, Kansas.&nbsp; She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Rachel (Dustin) Cooke, Christopher (Brittany) Green, Mattie Peter, and Per and Torsten Nelson.&nbsp; She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Ariana and Emerson Cooke, and one more on the way with Christopher and Brittany Green.

Maxine Peter, age 89

Eugene Herman “Gene” Bugner, 93 passed away on December 25, 2022, at Catholic Care Center in Wichita, KS. He was born on July 21, 1929 in Saint Joseph, KS to Mike and Rosa {Blasi} Bugner. On April 21, 1956 he married Darlene Davignon in Wichita, KS.

A Great Bend resident since 1968, coming from Garden City, Wichita, and Garden Plain, Gene enjoyed duck hunting at “the lease” and pheasant hunting at the Foos’ in Bazine. He loved to spend time outdoors tending his vegetable garden, fishing, and keeping his Kentucky Bluegrass lawn immaculate. He never passed up a card game and was a regular at the K of C pitch games. He spent his working years as a

sales representative for Whirlpool Corporation. He and Darlene enjoyed memorable trips around the world made possible through his salesmanship contests. Countless friends were made across western Kansas through his Whirlpool connections.

Gene never knew a stranger and was beloved by all of his relatives and friends. He was a regular at Club One Fitness, affectionately called “The Spa” where he and Darlene gathered with the regulars who became dear friends.

Gene was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus,

V.F.W. and the American Legion. He also honorably served his country in the Army as a Corporal during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene of Wichita; son, Bradley (Tammie) Bugner of Wichita; three daughters, Cynthia (David) Niederee of Derby, Julie (Mark) Smith of Pawnee Rock, and Jill Chambers of Great Bend, and daughter-in-law, Nita Bugner of Wichita; sisters Alberta Hartman of Denver, Marilyn Ferrell of Texhoma, OK; 12 grandchildren: Ben (Catie) Niederee, Joe (Maura) Niederee, Amy Niederee, Stephanie (Nate) White, Ashley (Grant) Louvar, Brooke (Andy) Marshall, Olivia (Cody) Lopez, Peter Smith, Alexandra (A.J.) Beasley, Hannah Sizemore, Mikel Bugner, and Sophia Chambers; and 17 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and son Curtis Bugner; son-in-law, Cory Chambers; sisters, Mildred Kampling, Norma Jean Bestgen, and younger brother Frank Bugner.

Visitation will take place from 2-7pm with family available from 5-7 Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home. Knights of Columbus Rosary will take place at 1:30 pm prior to the funeral service at 2 pm Thursday, December 29, 2022, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father Prakash Kola presiding. Eugene 'Gene' Bugner, age 93

Lois M. Thompson, 91, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2022, at Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse, Kansas.

Lois was born July 16, 1931, in rural Rush County, Kansas, the daughter of John C. “Jack” and Tenie A. (Leatherbury) Mendenhall. She was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. A 1949 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, she owned and operated the La Crosse Motel, La Crosse, Kansas, before her retirement.

Lois enjoyed coin collecting and was a member of the local coin club.

On September 7, 1974, she married Richard A. Cunningham. He preceded her in death July 17, 1986. On November 22, 2004, she married G. W. Thompson in La Crosse, Kansas. He preceded her in death February 6, 2014.

Survivors include: three sisters, Jeanette Rogers (Walter), McCracken, Kansas, Barbara Owen, Seward, Kansas, and Linda Schenk (Daniel), Albert, Kansas; a niece, Colette Wittman; numerous nephews and nieces; three step sons, David Thompson, Pratt, Kansas, Daniel Thompson (Julie), Tonganoxie, Kansas, and Dennis Thompson (Christine), Lathrop, Missouri; one step daughter, Deborah K. Brashier (Larry), Norman, Oklahoma; step grandchildren; and step great grandchilden.

Melina Paz Chavez, 23, passed away on Dec. 25, 2022, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born on May 6, 1999, in Great Bend, to Jose Conception Chavez and Maria Santos Espinoza Bonilla.

Having moved to Wichita after being a lifetime Great Bend resident, Melina was preparing to start her career as a cosmetologist. She was a 2017 graduate of Great Bend High School and recently completed her cosmetology training from Bellus Academy. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, and was very dedicated to her faith and church activities. Melina loved traveling, spending time with friends and especially spending time with family.

Survivors include her parents; three brothers, Yobany (Sharon) Salazar of Tulsa, Okla., Chon Chavez of Dallas, Texas, and Bobby (Ben Blood) Chavez of Great Bend; two nieces, Ariel and Rayla Salazar; and numerous other family members and friends.

William E. “Bill” Thompson, 83, of Schoenchen, Kansas died Monday, December 19, 2022, at Hays Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was born March 11, 1939, in Bristow Oklahoma, the son of Ben and Faye (Blackmore) Thompson. Bill graduated from Codell High School in 1957.&nbsp; He then enlisted in the Navy and served from 1959 to 1969.&nbsp; He boarded the ship USS ST. Paul out of Long Beach, California, while stationed aboard, they escorted President Eisenhower. &nbsp; In August 1963, he was united in marriage to Janice Tinkler, they later divorced.&nbsp; In June 1986 he married Kathy (Munsch) Herrman they were married 36 years.&nbsp; Bill started his working career in the oilfield, owned a backhoe business and a donut shop and went back to oilfield as a service rig operator, driller, floor hand and pumper. He pumped wells for many oil companies, the last to be Kaiser-Francis Oil Company.&nbsp; He was a grain hauler for Schreiner Trucking and Golden Plains Trucking. After retiring from trucking, he then went to work for Hays Area Children Center as a custodian for 12 years, then worked at Dollar Tree as a floor stocker for two years.&nbsp; Bill was a joy to be around, he always had a funny remark on what others said, anyone he knew truly enjoyed and loved him. He always made everyone he saw smile and laugh, especially his sister Loretta. William E. 'Bill' Thompson

Gary Wayne Boy, age 68 years, of Wichita, passed away on Saturday morning, Dec. 17, 2022, at Meridian Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Wichita. Gary was born on Aug. 16, 1954, in Sterling, to Lawrence and Frances (Fisher) Boy. He farmed near Raymond, and later worked for Tim Fischer farming near St. John. Gary loved both crop work and livestock with a passion. He also loved to play Bingo, and had a great sense of humor while being very protective of his family and friends.

Survivors include three sisters: Janet (&amp; John) Hutchinson of San Angelo, Texas, and Carolyn Valenzuela and Anna M. Shirley Ingham passed away on Dec. 22, 2022, at Country Living Living of Larned in Larned. Shirley was born in Chase on Aug. 15, 1938, to Anthony and Cora Muth. She was one of nine children and grew up in Chase where she attended St. Mary’s Catholic School through the eighth grade. She graduated from Chase High School in 1957. She attended business school in Hutchinson, where she studied accounting. She worked for an accounting firm in Lyons after completing her studies.

Shirley married Curt Ingham on July 7, 1960, in Tempe, Ariz. The union was blessed with eight children. Shirley spent her life raising her children with her husband, Curt, and supporting her extended family. She returned to work after her children were older and worked as an optometrist assistant for Dr. Huffman and Dr. Gibson in Lyons. She later worked as an office assistant for an allergy specialist, Dr. Wiens in Great Bend. She enjoyed her career helping others and easily made friends with those she served. Shirley lost her husband, Curt, on Feb. 23, 2000. She later married her husband, Richard Hammeke, on Dec. 3, 2011. Shirley enjoyed becoming a stepmother to Richard’s children and extending her family. She loved to host family dinners and enjoyed the laughter and conversations of her children and grandchildren. She loved her family by cooking wonderful meals and was famous in the community for her delicious pies. Shirley was a member of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ellinwood. She was previously a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Chase. She served on the Altar Society for both parishes. She also was active in the Chase High School Alumni Association. Shirley (Ingham) Hammeke

Joyce Bortz Saelens, 88, passed away peacefully on Nov. 28, 2022, at Columbine West Health and Rehab. Joyce was born on Aug. 12, 1934, to William Lavern and Velma Mae (Boyd) Amerine in Great Bend. She grew up on a farm outside of Great Bend, where she was involved in 4-H and orchestra. Joyce attended and graduated from Great Bend High School in 1952.

Joyce married her first love, Eugene “Gene” W. Bortz, on Aug. 12, 1952, at First Methodist Church in Great Bend. After their wedding, they moved to a family farm outside of Timken, and the following year they welcomed twins, Galen and Gail, into their family. Later they lived in Great Bend, Lincoln, Neb., and Richardson, Texas. In 1988, Gene passed away suddenly, and Joyce moved around to San Antonio, Texas, Great Bend, Fort Collins, Colo., and Loveland, Colo. On April 22, 1995, Joyce married Frank Saelens in a ceremony at First Presbyterian Church in Fort Collins,&nbsp; and they made their home in Loveland.

Throughout her life, Joyce worked at Woolworth, several banks, and LaQuinta Motor Inns as a Manager and Instructional Coordinator. When she moved to Fort Collins, she worked for Nadent South. She was a member of First Methodist Church in Great Bend and First Presbyterian Church in Fort Collins where she served as a Stephen Minister. She was also a member of Sesostris Patrol Wives, Daughters of the Nile, and the American Institute of Banking.

Joyce loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was such a loving and nurturing person to those people in her life. She was happiest spending time with her loved ones, working in her flower gardens, bird watching, doing puzzles, and decorating her house for the holidays.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Frank of Loveland, Colo.; her brother, Richard (Marlene) Amerine of Hoisington; her son, Galen (Diane) Bortz of Moorcroft, Wyo.; and her daughter, Gail (JD) Mullen of Fort Collins, Colo. She is also survived by her step-children, Keri Christensen, Mike (Wendy) Saelens, and Daryl Saelens; grandchildren, Jeanette Nelson, William Bortz, Chelsea Mullen, Jamie Mullen, and Kelsey Christensen; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Joyce will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, in Great Bend, with Pastor Joseph Smeragliuolo presiding. Inurnment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery. Zachary Paul “Zach” Bealer, 33, passed away on Dec. 21, 2022, in Geary County. He was born on Sept. 25, 1989, in Great Bend, to Richard “Rick” and Ruth (Schiller) Bealer.

A Kansas City, Mo., resident, Zach had recently joined the law firm of Martinez Immigration Law, focusing his practice on family-based and humanitarian visas and representing clients in immigration court. He was a 2008 graduate from Great Bend High School, a 2012 graduate with Distinctions from the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, and a 2021 graduate from Washburn University School of Law with Dean’s List Honors and as a recipient of the Irvine E. Ungerman Award for Excellence in Clinical Practice as a student intern in the Family Justice and Immigration Clinic. While in law school, Zach held various positions as a small group leader, a research assistant, a teaching assistant, was selected as a Student Fellow for the Equal Justice Works Rural Summer Legal Corps, and was a former Notes Editor for the Washburn Law Journal.

Between receiving his collegiate degrees, Zach served as a medical interpreter in Guatemala and as an AmeriCorps member in Lawrence, Kan. Three years of this time was spent in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, becoming fluent in Spanish and immersed in the culture, fueling his passion and goal to “interact with immigrants, listen to their stories, and fight for the rights of those who often face an uphill battle.”

Michael Charles Mooney, 67, died Dec. 17, 2022, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. He was born July 29, 1955, in Ellinwood, the son of Charles and Beatrice (Lubbers) Mooney. Mike graduated from Bushton High School in 1973.

On Dec. 24, 2004, he married Rena Jean Glenn in Hoisington. She survives.

A lifetime resident of Rice and Barton Counties, Mike mainly worked as a pumper in the oil field, a job he loved. He was also a mechanic and owner of Mike’s Place a bar in the rural Bushton area.

Mike’s hobbies included racing of all kinds, especially dirt tracks and mudding, often helping friends in demolition derbies just for the fun of it. He had a patient ability to make and restore clocks and pocketwatches with tiny gears and mechanisms with exact precision. Mike could usually be found enjoying time with friends at his favorite place, The Odin Store.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Rena Mooney of the home; a daughter, Jessica Babcock and husband Brent of Lewis; three grandchildren, Presten, Austin, and Jayden; a sister, Patricia Hinojos of Cassidy; and nephews, Miguel and Jose Hinojos, both of Cassidy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Beatrice Mooney.

Michael Mooney, age 67

Gary Wayne McArthur, 78, passed away on Dec. 16, 2022, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born on July 22, 1944, to G.W. and Ida (Kissinger) McArthur in Denver, Colo. On Feb. 11, 1978, he married Patricia Perkins in Great Bend. She survives.

An area resident since he was 16, Gary was an entrepreneur, working in many areas, including as the owner of Eazy Street for 20 years. He was a fan of St. Patrick’s Day, as well as all things cars/racing. He was a classic car enthusiast, loved NASCAR races, and racing motorcycles, with his leathers on display at the Kansas Motorcycle Museum.

Survivors include his wife of the home; four stepchildren, Larry Milford of Manhattan, Robert Cagle of Great Bend, Wendee Keenan of Great Bend, and Robin (John) Bastion of Harrisonville, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Karla (Larry) Espinosa of Great Bend. He is preceded in death by his parents.

On Feb. 11, 1978, he married Patricia Perkins in Great Bend. She survives.An area resident since he was 16, Gary was an entrepreneur, working in many areas, including as the owner of Eazy Street for 20 years. He was a fan of St. Patrick’s Day, as well as all things cars/racing. Karen Eileen Davis, 76, passed away Dec. 19, 2022, at her home in Great Bend. She was born Feb. 12, 1946, at Monte Vista, Colo., to Isaac &amp; Helen (Reimer) Rempel. She married Paul Davis Sept. 9, 1966, in Denver, Colo.

Coming from Denver in 2001, Karen was a Great Bend resident. She was a cosmetologist by trade and loved what she did. She was a member of Faith Community Church. Karen enjoyed painting, crafts and decorating, especially interior decorating.

Survivors include, her husband, Paul Davis of the home; two daughters, Michelle Jarvis of Livingston, Texas, and Charlonda Wells of Ellinwood; a sister, Kathy Dahmer of Castle Rock, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren with one to arrive in March 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Abe, Vernon and Randall Rempel; and two sisters, Evelyn Ennis and Mary Rempel.

Gary Laverne Brack, 66, passed away Dec. 15, 2022, at his home in Wichita. He was born on Nov. 5, 1956, in Great Bend, to Daylon and Roberta (Spitzmiller) Brack. He married Charla Geier and they later divorced. He then married Mary (Richmond) and they later divorced also.

A Wichita resident since 1974, Gary grew up and graduated from Great Bend High School. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and spending time with his family.

Survivors include, his children, Lavenia Winter of Calif., Lance Gawthrop of Tenn., Makishia Ginyard and Shaunta Gawthrop, both of Wichita; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; his sister, Cathy Vonfeldt and two nephews, Jason Vonfeldt and wife Jennifer and Jared Vonfeldt, all of Great Bend. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Joan Lockwood, age 88

Marius Rossouw, 54, passed away on Dec. 14, 2022, at Russell Regional Hospital, Russell. He was born on May 25, 1968, in Cape Town, South Africa, to Frederick and Hester (Kühn). On Dec. 21, 2002, he married Cleo Jarvis in Cape Town, South Africa. She survives.

A resident of the area for the past 14 years, Marius worked as a truck driver for Befort Trucking and previously did custom cutting. He was a hard worker and dedicated to working and raising his family.

Survivors include his wife of the home; five sons, Marnus (Justine) Van Meyeren of Cape Town, South Africa, Charl (Dawn) Van Meyeren of Phoenix, Ariz., Brandon Rossouw of Cape Town, South Africa, Clinton (Christie) Rossouw of Great Bend, and Ryan Rossouw of Great Bend; five grandchildren, Salem, Tegan, Eben, Chrismarie, and Karla; his parents of Cape Town, South Africa; a brother, Frederick (Tracey) Rossouw of Phillipsburg.

Marius Rossouw, age 54

Larry Jo Hullett, 68, died Dec. 13, 2022, at his home in Hoisington, surrounded by his family. He was born Jan. 8, 1954, in Larned, the son of Ralph C. and Grace E. (Mornhinweg) Hullett. Larry graduated from Larned High School.

A resident of Hoisington since 1976, Larry worked in many trades. Always good with his hands, he enjoyed building homes for Marlett Manufacturing Homes, and he worked in the oil field as a driver on a pulling unit, and drilling wells for Shirer Well Service Inc. Most recently, he worked at Superior Essex.

On Sept. 3, 1976, he married Ramona “Mona” Richardson in Larned. They later divorced but remained good friends, with Mona caring for him until his death.

He is survived by his three children; Ashley Hullett, Karra Hullett, and Brandon Hullett, all of the home; foster daughter, Sharon Fishgrab of Kansas City, Mo.; and a special niece, Shelby Richardson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Kenneth, Harold, Clyde and Edward.

Per Larry’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family gathering will be held at a later date.

Larry Hullett, age 68

Bradley Wayne Sjoholm, 41, of Quinter, Kansas, passed away on December 12, 2022, with&nbsp;immediate family at bedside after complications due to organ failure.

Brad was born on July 18, 1981, in Hoisington, Kansas, to John and Judy (Harris) Sjoholm.

Brad always had a smile on his face and was generous with his time, hard work, and his huge heart. He enjoyed the outdoors, tinkering with machinery, working with his hands, and being&nbsp;with friends and family. Brad had a tender heart for those he loved and a strong love for all&nbsp;animals.

He attended elementary school in Hoisington and completed his education in Hays, Kansas.

He continued on to get his associates degree in electrical technology in Beloit, Kansas. Brad resided in Ellis, Park, and finally in Quinter, Kansas.

Brad is survived by his parents of Hays, brother Kyle (Tricia) Sjoholm of St. Louis, MO; sister Kate (Lane) Hensley of McPherson, KS; Uncle Terry and Aunt Nancy Hopp, of Marquette, KS; and cousins: Jennifer (Curt) Isernhagen, St. Paul, MN; Brian (Kendra) Hopp, McPherson, KS, and Amanda (Josh) McMahan, McPherson, KS. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Aunt Suzi Gruber, and cousin Jeff Hopp.

Graveside services will be held at Elim Lutheran Cemetery in Marquette, KS, at a future date.

Ronald Ray Bettenbrock, 74, passed away December 14, 2022, at Medicalodges of Great Bend. He was born on May 26, 1948, in Ellsworth to Arthur &amp; Esther (Manchester) Bettenbrock.

Ronald was a current Great Bend resident. He enjoyed comic books and super heroes, especially Spiderman and Superman. Ronald's brothers would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff of ResCare Pathways of Great Bend for their love, care and support over the years.

Survivors include, three brothers, Darrell Bettenbrock, Kenneth Bettenbrock and Dwight Bettenbrock, all of Salina. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Marion Elaine Pugh, 97, passed away on December 14, 2022, at Stafford County Hospital in Stafford, Kan. She was born on January 25, 1925 in Chase, Kan. to William and Julia (Gockstetter) Revel. On January 14, 1943, she married Roy Arthur “Art” Pugh in Chase, Kan. He passed on October 6, 2005.

An area resident since 1946, Elaine worked as telephone operator in her younger years before becoming a homemaker. She was a very accomplished artist, especially in oil painting, sharing her talent through teaching art at the Great Bend Rec Center, Art Inc., Barton Community College, and the Cabin, and enjoyed her garden.

Survivors include a son, Randy Pugh of Stafford, Kan.; two daughters, Diane Adams of Mulvane, Kan., and Lexie (Mike) Weiser of Salina, Kan.; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband; a son, Rodney Pugh; a grandson, Christopher Pugh; her parents; six brothers, Willis, Glen, Stanley, Wade, Donnie, and Ronnie Revel; and a sister, Bonnie Frazier.
