Charles Carmin, age 94

Charles Lewis Carmin, 94, passed away in Great Bend, on Jan. 31, 2023. Born on Dec. 2, 1928, in Leoti, he was the son of Everett V. and Ruby (Shannon) Carmin. A 56-year resident of Ellinwood, Charles was a 1948 graduate of Sylvia High School, later graduating from Barton County Community College. Charles married Marilyn R. Schiewe on Sept. 6, 1954, in Gypsom, Ohio. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1966, serving his country for 21 years through two conflicts Korea and Vietnam earning The Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Charles later worked for the US postal service for 20 years as a mail carrier before retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and helping Veterans and friends.

Memberships include USMC 1st Marine Division, Retired Enlisted Association, St. John Lutheran Church in Ellinwood, and American Legion Post #320.

Survivors include daughters, Connie (Scott) Mitchum, Barbara (Danny) Petz, Betty (Steven) Richmeier; and son, Mike (Mary) Carmin; grandchildren, Aubrey Silva, Christopher Petz, Brad Carmin, Charles Carmin, Kurt Doll, Tyler Petz, Shannon Richmeier; great-grandchildren, Autumn Petz, Grant Petz, Abbey Silva, Raya Doll; siblings, Kenneth L. Carmin, Joyce L. Culver, Connie J Schrock, Carol A. Sayre.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Marilyn Carmin (2018); and siblings, Everette Carmin, Louise Kennedy, Larry Carmin, Jim Carmin, Mark Carmin, Gary Carmin, Dean Carmin, and Bobby Carmin.

Funeral service will take place 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 4 at St. John Lutheran Church in Ellinwood, with Rev. Thomas Thierfelder officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood. Visitation will take place 1-6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 3 at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood.
