Kenneth E. “Ken” Harton, affectionately known as “Coach” and “Kenny” to his family, passed away Friday, July 25, 2025, at Azria Health Woodhaven in Great Bend, Kansas. Ken was born on February 4, 1952, in McAlester, Oklahoma, to Evelyn Brown Harton and Kenneth R. Harton. He is survived by his sisters, Rita Garnett of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Amber Spencer and Sherri Beckman of Pittsburg, Kansas, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Billie Sue Brown. A 1970 graduate of Iola High School, Ken went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas and a master’s degree from Fort Hays State University.

Ken dedicated 40 years to education, teaching at Roosevelt Junior High and Great Bend Middle School before retiring as a librarian at GBMS in 2014. Throughout his career, he coached multiple sports and actively participated in various educational organizations.

Ken was known for his deep love of music – from classical to rock – and was an avid supporter of his favorite teams. “Go Chiefs” and “Rock Chalk Jayhawk, Go KU!” He was also a familiar face at the Great Bend Community Theatre, where he shared his talents both on stage and behind the scenes as a director. Ken was a mentor, father figure, and loyal friend to many near and far. He loved and cared for his people very much. Ken was a kind and thoughtful soul who made a point to stay connected with loved ones. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. 

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, 1024 Main St., Great Bend, KS, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to the Great Bend Community Theatre, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.

Linda Katherine Francis, 65, passed away August 6, 2025, surrounded by family at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. She was born on July 6, 1960, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Clifford “Cliff” and Janet (Polzin) Bieberle. On January 8, 1986, she married Todd Francis on a mountain top in Winter Park, Colorado. A lifetime Great Bend resident, Linda worked in the HR department for Central Kansas Medical Center. She then shifted to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office as an administrative assistant. Linda was a member of Prince of Peace Parish. She enjoyed skiing, baseball, and sewing, known for being a talent seamstress. Linda most enjoyed time spent with family, especially with her grandsons.

Survivors include her husband of the home; daughter, Samantha Elsen and husband Alex of Great Bend; four grandsons, Adrian Elsen, Mack Elsen, Kade Elsen, and Dex Elsen; two brothers, Jim Bieberle and wife Crystal of Great Bend, and Danny Bieberle and significant other Tammy Becker of Medicine Lodge; two sisters, Vicki Woodral and husband Bill, and Donna Eshleman and husband Matt, all of Great Bend; numerous nieces, nephews, and loved ones.

She is preceded in death by her parents. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date. Memorials have been designated to the American Cancer Society or Barton County Reserves, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.

Linda Katherine Francis, age 65

Melvin Benjamin Karst II, 71, passed away the morning of Wednesday, August 6th at his home surrounded by family. He was born on November 2nd, 1953 in Liebenthal, KS to Melvin and Bridget (Jacobs) Karst.

Mel was a second generation water well driller, he owned and operated Karst Water Well drilling and service after succeeding his father in the mid 80’s. He took pride in helping provide local families and area businesses with the world’s greatest resource. During the summer, when he wasn’t in the wheat fields, you could find Mel at the ballpark, coaching his sons or supporting area teams with his time on the board of the Hays Baseball Association. He has loved the New York Yankees since spending his childhood watching Mickey Mantle and has passed that love down to his five boys.

One would be hard-pressed to find anyone with the work ethic that was instilled in Mel from his father. From growing up on a farm and tending the land to working countless hours harvesting wheat, cultivating an impressive annual garden and on water well job sites he more than lived up to his namesake. He worked hard until the end.

All of that said, nothing brought Mel more joy than his time with his eighteen grandchildren. His world would light up anytime in the presence of his grandkids and that kept him going through his battle with cancer the past year and a half.

Mel is survived by his five sons, Melvin Benjamin Karst III and wife Joan of Hays, Mark Karst and wife Nikki of Kansas City, Jonathan Karst of Boulder, CO, Clayton Karst and wife Janae of Kansas City and Dylan Karst and wife Katie of Hays; his partner, Joni Pepper of Hays; two stepsons, Jason Ukele and wife Stephanie and Corey Ukele and wife Brandy all of Salina; eighteen grandchildren, Katrina Delimont, Kailey Delimont, Cooper Goodrow, Conner Ukele, Hendrix Karst, Ike Ukele, Nemia Zaid, Jaxon Karst, Cadence Karst, Colton Ukele, Lyric Karst, Adler Ukele, Charlotte McKinney, Rhett McKinney, Oliver McKinney, Hayden Karst, Montecina Karst, Maddux Karst and two sisters Sharon (Karst) Befort of Hays and Melly Karst of Austin, TX.

Mel was preceded in death by his partner, Kathy Ukele; his parents, Melvin and Bridget Karst; and his sister, Charlsie (Karst) Koerner.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, August 11, 2025 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery with Fr. Dana Clark officiating.

Visitation will be Sunday, 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM and Monday 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM all at Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory-Brock's Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601.

Melvin Benjamin Karst II, age 71

Karen Lindberg, 80, of Great Bend passed into her eternal home August 2, 2025, at The Cedars in McPherson, Kansas with family present. Born on August 23, 1944, in Columbus, Ohio, Karen was the daughter of Merle E. Rinker and Ada M. (Dunn) Rinker. At just six months old, she moved with her family to Great Bend, where she spent the rest of her life. A proud 1962 graduate of Great Bend High School, Karen went on to attend the University of Kansas.

Karen worked as a legal secretary and also devoted herself to raising her family as a homemaker. She married Val L. Lindholm on June 14, 1964, in Great Bend. Though they later divorced, their union brought two sons: Greg and Doug. She then married Howard Lindberg November 6, 1986. Howard passed August 8, 2023.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her daughter-in-law, Keri Lindholm.

She is survived by her son Greg Lindholm and his wife Tamara (Karen’s puzzle partner) of McPherson, Kansas; her grandchildren Aden Lindholm (and wife Asha) of Auburn, Washington, and Anna van Asselt (and husband Kerrick) of Roeland Park, Kansas; and her great-grandson Jackie, son of Aden and Asha. Karen also loved and warmly welcomed into her family her step-grandchildren, Braeden Konrade, Blayne (Sydney) Konrade, Halee Konrade, and Kyler Konrade.

Her son Doug Lindholm and his wife Gina (Schreiber) of Thornton, Colorado, survive her, along with their children: Chris (and wife Anna) of Westminster, Colorado, Josh (and wife Abbey) of Erie, Pennsylvania, and Nick of Thornton.

Karen’s stepchildren include Aron Lindberg of Great Bend and his daughter Taylor of Lawrence, Kansas; and Shawna Walker (and husband Rodney) of Pratt, Kansas, along with their sons, Hunter and Conner both also from Pratt. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Nancy Lindberg of Topeka, Kansas. Additionally, she had an amazing friend group, many dating back to childhood - affectionately known as “The Gang” who met regularly either in person or online. Sara, Chris, Terri, Naomi and Suellen were as good of friends as anyone could ever hope to have. Neighbors like Nancy who together watched a neighborhood start from new construction, through a lifetime of memories, are one in a million. Her high school friends who met monthly for lunch meant the world to her. And her sisters in PEO, where Karen was a 50 year member, were a deep connection to her community and her desire to serve.

Karen had a love for history, community, and meaningful connection. She served as a Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Great Bend and was active on the Board of Directors for the Barton County Historical Society. She especially loved to travel—one highlight being a memorable cruise to Alaska—and she treasured her adventures with “the cousins,” whose companionship brought her much joy over the years.

A celebration of Karen’s life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Great Bend, 10:30 a.m., Saturday August 30, 2025, with Becky Gillette presiding. Private inurnment graveside services will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Karen Lindberg, age 80

Terry Gene Fellers,70, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, August 1st with family by his side. He was born in Newton, Kansas on January 17th, 1955 to Alvin Fellers and Billie Jean (Joles). He grew up in Hoisington and Hutchinson Kansas with his parents and four brothers, Robert, Steven, Dennis and Brian. Some of his fondest childhood memories included riding horseback with his brothers out in the Kansas countryside and also listening to his mother play old time gospel and boogie woogie on the piano.

Following in his father and brother Robert's footsteps, Terry joined the Army in 1971 and later received an honorable discharge. Afterwards,he worked in the oil field during the Kansas oil boom of the late seventies and early eighties. He married Paula Sue McCullough on August 18th, 1981 and graduated from Brown Mackie College with a Business and Marketing degree in 1987. He then worked at Reiter Chevrolet and Marmie Motors for ten years until health problems caused him to retire early.

Inspired by musicians in his family and the discovery of the Beatles, Terry began writing songs and taught himself to play the guitar at the age of 15. He was a left-handed "south paw" who learned to play upside down and by ear. He studied the styles of his favorite song writers, rock guitarists and blues artists: Jimmy Page, Johnny Winter, Jimmy Hendrix, Rory Gallagher, Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhodes, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Muddy Waters...just to name a few. Terry collaborated with various local musicians and played live shows in the 1980's and 2000's. He entertained audiences with his stage presence and loved any opportunity to wow them with charismatic guitar solos. Playing behind his head and showing homage to Led Zepplin by using a violin bow were a couple of his favorites.

Terry loved God and was passionate about sharing his Christian faith. After years of medical issues and disease diagnoses that included surgeries to repair his ruptured appendix, two cardiac surgeries and three separate cancer diagnoses, he dedicated his energy to writing and performing music proclaiming God's love and the healing power of prayer. In 2010, he released an album entitled Road to Glory, recorded at Awestruck Studios in Kansas City and featured his son, Josh, on drums. This was one of his proudest moments.

Beginning In 2011, he was honored to tour with different music ministries and was given the opportunity to perform at "Music for the Soul" during the Sturgis Bike Rally in South Dakota. Terry has also been a featured artist on "The Gospel Blues Hour" a radio program with listeners from around the world where he had a large following in the UK. On October 14th, 2014, Terry was inducted into the Kansas Blues Hall of Fame through the American Heritage International Organization.

Terry is survived by his wife Paula,his son Josh Fellers and wife Lindsey, and his daughter , Jennifer Stoddard and husband Jay. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Lily, Lauriel, Luke, Lyla, Hazel and Diana, as well as several nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by his loving dog, Jazz. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

A Celebration of Life Service and Butterfly Release will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Terry's name can be made to the Terry Gene Fellers Expense Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530. These donations will be used by the family for end of life expenses and celebration preparations.

Arlyn Gail Scheuerman, 86, passed away July 23, 2025, at Medicalodges of Great Bend, Great Bend, Kan. He was born August 7, 1938, in Rush County, Kan., to Conrad and Rosa (Matal) Scheuerman. Arlyn married Carol Lynn Dangerfield Nov. 10, 1978, in Broken Arrow, Okla. Carol passed away Dec. 21, 2021.

Arlyn, a long-time resident of Great Bend, graduated from Alexander High School and attended Fort Hays State University. He served his country in the U.S. Navy, earning the rank of Medical Corpsman. Upon his Navy discharge, Arlyn went to work for Briggs-Weaver of Dallas and Little Rock, New York Twist Drill of Staten Island, N.Y., then Universal Lubricants, Dodge City, Kan., retiring as branch manager. In retirement, he earned a Master Gardener certification from Kansas State University and served as a volunteer for the Barton County Extension Office. He also served as a bus driver for the Great Bend Senior Center, Department of Aging and was a member of the First Christian Church, Great Bend.

Surviving is a daughter, Diana Scheuerman of Great Bend and may nieces and nephews.

He was born April 1, 1951, in Pratt, the son of, Arthur “Art” and Annie (Considine) Hickel. Dennis was married to Betty Rauscher, and to this union was blessed with 2 daughters, Debra and Stacie. They later divorced. He was united in marriage to Karen Jones on October 8, 1988, in Great Bend.

Dennis was a long-time resident of Great Bend, coming from Ellinwood. He was employed throughout his life in the oilfield, Essex, Marmie’s, and Larned State Hospital. He was very active in various activities during his membership at First Southern Baptist Church. He served as a Boy Scout Leader, a Lions Club member, and Friends of the Library member. His greatest joy was found in time spent with his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 36 years, Karen Hickel; daughters, Debra Hickel, Stacie Stange; sister, Patricia Blair; brother, Michael Hickel; grandchildren, Cheyenne, Bradley, Wesley, Scottie; Trenton, Keyanna, Izaac, Gracie; great grandchildren, Ethan, Brinley, Thayn, Thax, and Zayn. He was preceded in death by his parents and previous wife, Betty.

Gregory Allen “Greg” Rowe, 64, passed away July 29, 2025, surrounded by family at Ascension Via Christi – St. Francis, Wichita, Kansas. He was born on October 17, 1960, to Bill and Pat (Sumner) Rowe. On April 4, 1981, he married Jo Melton in Great Bend.

A resident of Great Bend since 1969, Greg worked as a field manager for GK Environmental Services. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and experiencing all the emotions of being an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. Greg most cherished time spent with family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of the home; daughter, Stacy Bouse and husband Jarrod of Great Bend; son, Marc Rowe and wife Lynea of Great Bend; six grandchildren, Cayden Bouse, Clinton Bouse, Melanie Bouse, Allie Rowe, Trenton Rowe, and Trevor Rowe; brother, Bill Rowe and wife Brenda of Great Bend; sister, Kris Smolik and husband Ken of Great Bend; sister-in-law, Charlotte Rowe of Enid, Oklahoma; and numerous extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Robert “Bob” Rowe.

Gregory Allen "Greg" Rowe, age 64

Roberta L Prosser received her angel wings on July 28, 2025, in Hoisington, Kan. Roberta was born on a farm near Claflin on August 26, 1926, to Frank and Louise (Zecha) Miller. Raised in the Catholic faith and traditions of her eastern European heritage. She became a strong woman with determination to exceed. They raised five children on the original Prosser homestead near Odin.

They were proud and happy of the family they created. A lifelong member of the Claflin and Odin area, they moved to Hoisington in 2006. Roberta was known as a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was the Matriarch on both sides of the Miller/Prosser family. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. She taught her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren and her best friends her secrets to making pies and cherry kolaches.

She graduated from Claflin High School in 1945, however attended her junior year in Wichita, to help her older sister Leona. Roberta worked as a clerk at Buehler's store in Claflin. She met her one and only Julius and they married August 10, 1948, being the first couple to have their wedding dance in the Odin gymnasium. They spent 61 years together. Julius passed away on November 30, 2009. Roberta became a homemaker and mother, and started work outside the farm as a nursing assistant when CKMC opened. She was on the nursing team to transport patients from St. Rose hospital through the tunnel. She worked at the Redwing Store, Odin Store, Prosser Rodeo Arena, C&amp;K's in Beaver and finally Dairy Queen for over 20 years.

Roberta had an unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness to everyone she encountered came natural to her. She had a rare gift of making others smile, and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all those who crossed her path of life.

She belonged to Holy Family Church in Odin and St John's Church in Hoisington, and served as officer in the Odin Altar Society numerous times finally becoming an Honorary member in both Odin and Hoisington. Daughters of Isabella was also on her long list of community service. She loved music, loved to dance and played several instruments and was quite a pitch card player. Julius and Roberta made a handsome couple for 61 years. Those polkas will never be the same.

Roberta is survived by her children, Leonard and Connie Prosser of McPherson, Maurice Prosser and Barb Maier of luka, Judy and Ralph Demel of Laughlin, NV, Michael and Myra Prosser of rural Odin, Kathleen and Curtis Hitschmann of Hoisington and an Honorary son and daughter Leon and Becky Steiner. The family grew to 16 Grandchildren, 32 Great Grandchildren, 5 Great Great Grandchildren. She had over one hundred nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Julius, two grandsons, Scott and Schon Demel, great granddaughter, Riley Prosser, great grandson, Turner, and a loving daughter-in-law, Sally Prosser. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, William and Martin Miller, her sisters, Leona Leiker, Teresa Dolecheck, Marie Hoss, Doris Smith, Rita Doll, and all her in-laws on both sides of the family. She was the last of a great generation. Thoroughly missed and always cherished. God bless her and her family and all who knew her.

Esther Fay (Deckert) Sayler, 77, passed away Saturday July 26, 2025, at the University of Kansas Health Systems – Great Bend. She was born at Larned, Kan., March 20, 1948 to Ruth (Maxwell) and Bennie Deckert. She grew up in the Pawnee Rock area, attended Bergthal Mennonite Church, graduated from Pawnee Rock High School in 1966. She received her BA in English and a minor in Psychology from Bethel College in 1970. She married her high school sweetheart, Arthur M. Sayler III, on June 6, 1971. To this union were born 2 children: Andrea Sayler-Siefkes and Arthur Maxwell Sayler IV (Max). Esther obtained a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Ft. Hays State University in 1980.

She taught English at Harrison Middle School from 1970 – 1975. After taking time off for her young children and obtaining her master’s degree she worked at Larned State Hospital Children’s Unit, the Center for Counseling and Consultation in Gt. Bend then co-founded and worked at Cedar Branch until retirement. She also directed the non-profit agency NEW LIFE FOR TEEN PARENTS for 2 years.

Music was a highlight of her life. Esther took music lessons from the 1st grade through college, excelling in piano and organ and baritone. Her love was accompanying choirs and she did so from high school through her time at Trinity Methodist Church. She played the piano every time she babysat her granddaughters and relished the opportunity to play duets with them and other friends.

Retirement years gave her time to indulge in hobbies such as needlework, reading, cooking and sewing. She sewed hundreds of dresses for girls in under-privileged conditions. She also spent as much time as she could babysitting her two granddaughters and later attending all their various events. She loved them beyond measure.

Esther is survived by her husband, Arther M. Sayler III of Albert, Kansas, brother Warren Deckert and his wife, Denise of Kansas City,&amp; Denise’s children and grandchildren. Daughter, Andrea Sayler-Siefkes and husband, Jon and their 2 children, August Katelyn and Madelynne Faye of Hudson, KS &amp; er son, Arthur Maxwell Sayler IV of Attichison, Kansas. Sister-in-law Marylou Turner of Kansas City, MO and brother-in-law Donald Schultz of Overland Park, KS.

Esther had a quick wit and a keen sense of humor, loved her women’s groups and cherished above all else her children and grandchildren who are exceptional in every sense of the word. She was extremely intelligent and the family relied upon her to spell and proofread everything. She was a prolific writer with three published books in her lifetime as well as many newspaper columns, poems, and short stories and “tales” from farmlife. The following poem was the last completed poem she wrote and shared mid-June of this year.

Esther Fay (Deckert) Sayler, age 77

Delora Jean Nuss, 100, passed away July 24, 2025, at Country Living of Larned. She was born April 13, 1925, in Stafford Co., Kan., to Vernon and Lola (Givens) McCullough. She married Gerhardt LaVern Nuss September 18, 1942, in Hoisington, Kan. He passed away August 1, 2010.

Delora, a long-time resident of Great Bend, attended CrossPoint Church faithfully and was an avid reader, enjoyed embroidery, flower gardening and cooking. She expressed her relationship and love to Jesus through her musical talent, playing the organ for many years at Central Baptist Church and First Bible Baptist Church.

Surviving is one son, Greg Nuss of Great Bend and his girlfriend Cindy Davis of Alma, Neb.; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Nuss of Russell; seven grandchildren, Tyler Nuss, Jason Adams, Nelson Adams, Matt Nuss, Sara Thomas, Stephanie Simmons and Shane Simmons; and many great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by son, Terry Nuss, daughter, Sandra Simmons, sister, Luella Stoner, brother-in-law, Harold Stoner and son-in-law, Gary Simmons.

Wilma “Ma” Steadman, age 96, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kan. Wilma was born December 26, 1928, on the family farm north of Bison, Kan., to Jacob “Jake” and Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Wilhelm) Steitz. Wilma graduated from Bison High School in 1948, then went to work for JC Penney in La Crosse, Great Bend and Wichita. Wilma married Bill Gene Steadman November 22, 1953, in Great Bend. Bill passed away December 21, 2019.

Wilma was a woman of many talents and passions. She found joy and fulfillment in painting vibrant scenes that reflected her appreciation for beauty and detail. Her sewing skills were admired by many. In the kitchen, Wilma’s cooking brought people together and her meals were often the centerpiece of family gatherings and celebrations.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Livingston (Bob) of Derby, Kan. and Becky Foos (Eric) of Brownell, Kan.; seven grandchildren, Joshua Helm, Nicole Fehrenbach (Shane), Adam Watkins (Caitlyn), Aaron Watkins, Bryan Watkins, Troy Grandy (Adrianna), Geena Storm (Jaylin); eleven great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Mary Steitz of La Crosse. Her wisdom continues to live on through them.

Wilma was preceded in death by her husband Bill, daughter, Kathy Fisher, granddaughter, Terra Helm; great grandson, Samuel Storm; and brothers, Victor Steitz, Reinhold Steitz, Eberhardt Steitz, Leland Steitz, Maynard Steitz; and sisters, Vernita Healzer, Leona Keil, Ruby Shank, and an infant sister.

Wilma’s life was marked by great strength and enduring love. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend, Kan., with Pastor Phyllis Burdge and Pastor Jaylin Storm presiding. Wilma “Ma” Steadman, age 96

Jacqueline Marguerite “Jackie” Feeney, 78, born on April 7, 1947, in Los Angeles, California, passed away on July 16, 2025, after an extended illness. She was the daughter of Nora “Mumsy” Feeney and Jack Feeney. Jackie lived a life of passionate strength—quick to love and quick with wit and sarcasm that brought laughter to all who knew her. She had a warm and happy spirit, always ready to share a laugh and lift those around her. She had a deep affection for her cats and a lifelong love of gardening. She found joy in her flowers and the peace of working with her hands in the dirt. Over the years, she owned and operated several bars, including Mumsy’s Place in Apple Valley, California—both reflections of her welcoming nature and entrepreneurial spirit.

After leaving California she lived in Idaho before moving to Kansas in 2018. In her later years, she especially enjoyed playing dominoes with her neighbors, gardening, streaming her favorite shows on Netflix for hours on end, and betting on the ponies online, the simple joys that filled her days.

Jackie is survived by daughter, Nora “Kathy” Nokes and husband Austin of Albert, Kansas; and her treasured grandchildren, Lea, Ella, and Cole, who were the light of her later years. She also leaves behind her beloved cats, Mia and Blue. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 1st, 2025, at Encounter Church. All who knew and loved Jackie are invited to join in honoring her memory. Jacqueline Marguerite “Jackie” Feeney, age 78

LaFern C. “Fern” Niedens, 96, passed away on July 23, 2025, at Medicalodges, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born on January 22, 1929, in Barton County, Kansas, to Emil and Clara (Nuss) Karst.

A resident of Great Bend, Fern was head tailor for Brentwood Ltd. for nineteen years prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. Fern enjoyed bowling, taking care of her home and yard, growing a fantastic garden, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include two sons, Mike Niedens and wife Debbie of Great Bend, and Craig Niedens and wife Mee-Sun of Grain Valley, Missouri; three grandchildren, Adam Niedens of Great Bend, Cassie Dupuis and husband Brenton of rural Pawnee Rock, and Joshua Niedens of San Antonio, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Case Niedens, Macey Niedens, and Sarah Niedens; two sisters, Dorothy Rube and Joyce Lust, both of Hoisington; sister-in-law, Loretta Karst of Topeka; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Albert Karst and Gary Karst; infant sister, Vierna Kast; and brothers-in-law, LeRoy Rube and Marvin Lust.

Robert E. “Bob” Lowe, 75, died July 20, 2025, at Clara Barton Hospital ER, Hoisington, Kansas. He was born August 22, 1949, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Odra “Jack” and Marguerite C. (Riley) Lowe. Bob graduated from Hoisington High School in 1967 and then attended Salina Vo-Tech for diesel mechanics. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving as an E4 during the Vietnam War.

A lifetime Hoisington resident, Bob worked as a driller in the oil field for many years with Woodman Iannitti Oil Company. In 1990 he took a job with the City of Hoisington retiring from the power plant in 2013. From 1974 to 2001 Bob served on the Hoisington Fire Department, he was a member of the V.F.W. Post #6240 of Russell and the IEBW. An avid outdoorsman Bob loved hunting and fishing. He loved watching his grandkids play sports and especially enjoyed softball games.

On January 30, 1982, he married Connie L. Friedly at the First United Methodist Church in Hoisington.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Connie Lowe of the home; a stepson, Jayme A. Hulse of Great Bend; two daughters, Lori Jo Lowe and husband Courtney Bryant Sr. of Great Bend, and Heather Jean Knoche and husband Scott of Stafford; nine grandchildren, LoCora Byrant, Jevon Mogbo, Kyeal Mogbo, Sean Hulse, DeShawnna Bryant, Courtney Bryant Jr., Scottlyn Knoche, Aaron Knoche and Ian Knoche; and a great granddaughter, KyZarie Mogbo.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with Ron Bailey presiding. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date in Hoisington City Cemetery.

Edmond Cornell Johnson, age 78, was born on January 6, 1947, in Fort Worth, Texas, and passed away peacefully at home July 19, 2025.&nbsp;

Edmond graduated from the University of Texas with a master’s degree in Sociology and was an instructor of Sociology and related disciplines at Barton Community College. His passion was to encourage students to explore the challenges of social dilemmas. He loved his profession and taught with care and respect for his students to successfully learn.

Edmond and his wife, Naomi, shared their lives together initially in Texas and then in Great Bend, Kansas.

He is survived by his wife; beloved German Shepard, Captain; and several nieces and nephews.

Edmond Cornell Johnson, age 78

Donald Wayne Crosby, a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on July 16, 2025, in Gulfport, Mississippi, at the age of 77, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 23, 1947, in Great Bend, Kansas, Donald was the son of Henry Edward "H.E." and Betty Crosby, who preceded him in death. He also mourned the loss of his sister, Katherine Wilson.

Donald’s professional life was marked by dedication and expertise, having built a commendable career as a Contracts Administrator with Lockheed Martin. His journey took him to various locations, including Denver, Houston, and Diamondhead, where he made lasting contributions and connections in the aerospace industry.

A proud Marine, Donald served honorably in the Vietnam War, displaying the valor and commitment that characterized his service. His military background remained an integral part of his identity, influencing his active involvement in the Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2880 and the Diamondhead Marine Corps League #1454, where he fostered camaraderie and support among fellow veterans.

Donald pursued his education with determination, earning a Bachelor’s Degree from the Kansas State University followed by an MBA from the University of Phoenix. His love for learning exemplified a commitment to personal and professional growth.

In his personal life, Donald was an outdoor enthusiast who cherished the beauty of nature. He found joy in fishing, hunting, and playing golf, often sharing these passions with his family and friends. His vibrant personality and love for nature resonated with those around him, making him a cherished companion and source of inspiration.

Donald is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Jo Ann Crosby, affectionately known as “Jodi,” who was his steadfast partner throughout life's journey. He is also survived by his daughter, Georganne Elemond, and her husband, Bryce. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his siblings: Edward &nbsp;Crosby, Larry Crosby, Steven Crosby, Jackie Reed, and Sherry Peschka. Additionally, he is remembered fondly by numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom carries a piece of his spirit in their hearts.

Donald Wayne Crosby, age 77

Leonard Dale Ehrlich, 92, died July 10, 2025, at Medicalodges, Great Bend, Kansas. He was born September 24, 1932, in northern Barton County, Kansas, the son of Manuel and Alma (Miller) Ehrlich.

A lifetime Barton County resident, Leonard was born and raised in Northern Barton County where he farmed until moving to Hoisington in 1981. He worked as an equipment operator in the public works department of the City of Hoisington from 1982 until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles since 1950.

On June 2, 1952, he married Margaret A. Connor at the St. John Catholic Church in Hoisington. She preceded him in death on August 5, 2017.

Survivors include: daughter, Debbie Adams and husband Terry of Council Grove; sister, Irene Jacobs of Great Bend; grandchildren, Kim Elliott and husband Jeremy, and Eric Swalley and wife Staci; great grandchildren, Keaton, Quinton, and Azha Elliott, Gavin, Kohin and Sorin Swalley; step grandchildren, Chris Blackledge and wife Jamie, Dan Adams and wife Kesha, Jessie Campbell, wife of Justen; step great grandchildren, Jeth, Hunter, and Ashton Campbell, Johnny Campbell, Cooper &amp; Lillie Blackledge, Ashton, Danica, Zayden and Maylea Adams.

Mark James Schmitt, 64, passed away July 12, 2025, surrounded by his family at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. He was born on July 7, 1961, in Great Bend, to Vernon and Dorothy (Wagner) Schmitt. On September 15, 2006, he married Laura Wilson in Great Bend.

A resident of Great Bend, Mark worked as a heavy equipment operator for Great Bend Township. He was a member and former president of Bikers of Central Kansas. Mark enjoyed motorcycles, wood working, fishing – even making his own lures, camping, hummingbirds, and in his younger years, hunting. His love of the outdoors was showcased in his many sunrise pictures, enjoying his work partially because of his mornings outside. Mark also enjoyed putting together the family ancestry, cooking, and adored his time spent with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of the home; son, Robert Schmitt and wife Sarah of Newton and their children, Gwendolyn and Sophia; three daughters, Chasity Navarro and husband Brian of Edmond, Oklahoma, and their children, Rylie and Parker, Danielle McNutt of Great Bend and her children, Taigen, Bristol and Stryker, and Terra DeCarolis and wife Jesse of Great Bend and their child, Keller; his father of Great Bend; brother, Scott Schmitt and wife Sharon of Ellis; sister, Tracy Jenisch and husband Jason of Harrisonville, Missouri; two nieces; one nephew; and numerous other loved ones.

Anita Marie “Tulip” Fanshier, 69, passed away July 9, 2025, at her home in Great Bend, Kansas. She was born on August 30, 1955, in Great Bend, to George “Harvey” and Ida (Foelgner) Fanshier.

A resident of Great Bend and Norman, Oklahoma, Tulip was a woman of many skills. She worked for Hertz and had her own businesses, including Tulip’s Typing, and selling Tulip’s Tupperware and Avon. Tulip started her education in the one room schoolhouse, Prairie Home Country School. Tulip received her associate’s degree from Barton Community College, then attended classes at Oklahoma University. She was a member of Foundry Community Church, Great Bend Desk and Derrick, and a sponsor for Love Works in Norman.

Tulip had many hobbies and interests. Her 4-H career through childhood offered her diverse skills that she utilized her entire life. She enjoyed growing a colorful garden, journaling, stamping, sewing, singing, and recently took up tie dying. A lifelong learner, she enjoyed learning and trying new things, like her latest venture of learning Hebrew. Tulip enjoyed people – she touched a lot of lives whether through thoughtful cards or phone calls, but especially through prayer. She was a prayer warrior with a strong Christian faith. Along with her faith and love of people, was her love for her “second chance” dogs. Tulip never gave up and always kept trying.

Survivors include two sisters, Jan Day and husband David of Seabrook, Texas, and Tracy Fanshier Broce and husband Lonnie of Great Bend; niece, Emma Day of Seabrook, Texas; beloved dog, Chloe; and numerous loved ones.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from noon to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2025, with family receiving guests from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Brett R. Moore, 54, passed away of natural causes on July 7, 2025, at his residence in rural Kingman, Kansas. He was born June 6, 1971, in Great Bend to Darrell J. "D.J." and Patricia (Shrauner) Moore.

Brett attended kindergarten in Kingman and elementary and high school in Hoisington, graduating in 1989. He continued his education at Hutchinson Community College majoring in Farm and Ranch Management, graduating in 1991. His lifetime desire was to farm and that is what he did for the rest of his life.

Brett was an active member of the community, serving for several years on the township board as well as trustee of the Penalosa United Methodist Church. His church membership was still in the Hoisington United Methodist Church, the church of his youth, but he had always attended Penalosa Methodist in the summers and after he started farming.

Survivors include his mother, Patricia Moore of Hoisington and rural Cunningham; long time friend, Jean Volk of Hutchinson, and right-hand man for years, who was intrusted with major farm decisions, Prisciliano De Santiago of rural Cunningham. He was preceded in death by his father and infant twin siblings, Phillip J. and Peggy K. Moore.

Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Monday, July 14, 2025, at Sego Cemetery, rural Reno County, with Reverend Mike McGovney presiding. Take Kansas Hwy 11 between US-54 and Arlington, Kan. Turn East on Pretty Prairie Rd. for 2 miles, then 1 mile North and ½ mile West on the North side. Brett Moore, age 54

Russell Ray Hinds, 74, passed away July 6, 2025, at his home in Claflin, Kansas. He was born on May 6, 1951, in Stafford, Kansas to Elberta Carl and Ahiala (Countryman) Hinds. On January 14, 2013, he married Vicki Sue Julian in Claflin. She passed on December 25, 2023.

A lifetime area resident, Russell worked in highway construction for Venture Corporation prior to his retirement. He was a member of the former Great Bend Friends Church. Russell enjoyed woodworking and taking care of his animals.

Survivors include a son, Matthew Hinds of Longview, Texas; granddaughter, Brianna of Longview, Texas; great granddaughter; brother, Randy Hinds and wife Dawn of Meridan, Iowa; sister-in-law, Sharon Ann Hinds of Independence, Kansas; and numerous extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and brothers, Elmer Carl Hinds and John Mahlon Hinds.

Russell Hinds, age 74

Corrine A. Boor, 72, died July 6th, 2025, at her home in Hoisington. She was born December 3, 1952, in Ellinwood, Kansas, the daughter of Paul M. and Marie A. (Bieberle) Hartig. Corrine graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1971 and then attended Barton County Community College where she was a cheerleader and the first Homecoming Queen.

On October 11, 1975, she married Richard J. “Rich” Boor in Ellinwood, Kansas. They worked side by side in their business Sound Control with partner Dick Reichuber until Rich’s death on November 5, 1996. Corrine then went to work for Clara Barton Hospital where she worked in the billing department until her retirement in 2022.

Corrine was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Altar Society. She was a sports fanatic, cheering on her Cub’s, Kansas City Chiefs, KU Basketball, and Notre Dame Football. She was also a devoted fan of her kids making all their sports games and later her grandkids which she cherished greatly. Corrine also loved her Hallmark movies and was especially excited for the Kansas City Chiefs movie.

She is survived by two sons; Richard “Todd” Boor and wife Alicia of Hoisington, and Brad Boor and wife Lexie of Hutchinson; brother, Marlin Hartig and wife Mary of York, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Joni Luebbers of Hoisington; and three grandchildren, Connor, Theodore, and Brynlee.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Rich.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Vigil with Rosary will begin at 7 p.m., all at the funeral home.

Corrine Boor, age 72

Edwin Joseph “Eddie” Moeder, 90, died July 2, 2025, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born on February 23, 1935, in Odin, KS, to Edward and Ida (Penka) Moeder.

Eddie was a 1953 graduate of Odin High School. He was in the Military Police and served in the United States Army. Eddie was a member of the VFW Post 1361 and the American Legion Lysle Rischel Post 68. He worked at Dillon’s as the fleet maintenance manager for over 25 years. Eddie loved spending time outdoors; he went camping with his family, hunting, fishing, and golfing. He enjoyed woodworking and a cold beer after a long day’s work. Eddie was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Knights of Columbus Council #612.

On July 18, 1959, in Hutchinson, he married Carol Jean Kornstett. They shared over 50 years in marriage, prior to her death on August 29, 2009.

Eddie is survived by: children, Dane Moeder, Denise (Darrell) Stewart, Troy (Stacey) Moeder, all of Hutchinson, Niki (Brian) Fiffe of Catonsville, MD; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Larry (Jan) Moeder of Great Bend and Mary Ann Fisher of Plainville.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Carol Moeder; brothers, Leonard Moeder, Ray Moeder, August Moeder, Leo Moeder, Rich Moeder; and sisters, Monica Schneider and Vi Prosser.

Parish Rosary will be 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Visitation will follow the rosary, from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 612 S. Maple, South Hutchinson. Eddie was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Knights of Columbus Council #612.On July 18, 1959, in Hutchinson, he married Carol Jean Kornstett. They shared over 50 years in marriage, prior to her death on August 29, 2009.Eddie is survived by: children, Dane Moeder, Denise (Darrell) Stewart, Troy (Stacey) Moeder, all of Hutchinson, Niki (Brian) Fiffe of Catonsville, MD; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Larry (Jan) Moeder of Great Bend and Mary Ann Fisher of Plainville.He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Carol Moeder; brothers, Leonard Moeder, Ray Moeder, August Moeder, Leo Moeder, Rich Moeder; and sisters, Monica Schneider and Vi Prosser.Parish Rosary will be 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Visitation will follow the rosary, from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 612 S. Maple, South Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with military honors. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday. Edwin 'Eddie' Moeder, age 90

Betty J. Goetz, age 91, passed away July 4, 2025, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born Dec. 13, 1933, in Crestwood, Ky., the second child of Enoch and Alberta King. Betty married Marvin Joseph Goetz on June 2, 1952, in Russell, Kan. Marvin passed away July 30, 1990. She then married Joe Smith in Aug. 1997. Joe passed away April 2017.

Betty was born during the Great Depression; however, she refused to let that, or any other difficulty, define her life. Betty received her Real Estate Broker’s license in 1966, and founded, owned and operated her Real Estate office as a certified Real Estate Broker. She was active in many professional associations, such as the National Association of Realtors, Women’s Council of Realtors, and the local Board of Realtors. Having a passion for writing, Betty authored and published the book, “The Miracle at the Apple Tree”.

Betty is survived by her two sons, Steve Goetz and wife Jean of Great Bend, and Chris Goetz and his wife Sue of Phoenix; four grandchildren, Garrett Goetz, Amber Hamm and husband Lucas, Katie Wheeler and husband Willie, and Joey; and five great grandchildren, Jaxson, Brooks, Colt, Andrew and Aria. She was preceded in passing by her husbands, Marvin Goetz and Joe Smith.

Private family graveside interment services will be held at Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend. Memorials are designated to Meals on Wheels, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
