Patsy Sue Mull, 87, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at her home in Great Bend, Kansas. Born August 20, 1938, in Larned, she was the daughter of William Edward and Florence (Dipman) Smith. On April 5, 1958, she married Gene Mull at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend. They were blessed with 57 years until he passed away September 2, 2015.

Patsy was a lifelong resident of Barton County. She enjoyed her career as a hairdresser for nearly 60 years in her home beauty salon. She was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Lake Barton Ladies Golf Association. In her spare time, she found joy in baking, especially her beloved chocolate sheet cake and banana bread.

Survivors include one son, Tobin Mull and his wife Jerrie Ann of Great Bend; one daughter, Natalie Schommer and her husband Jeff of Wichita; five grandchildren, Brett Dueser and his wife Alli, Brandon Dueser, Madison Dueser (Douglas), Michelle Elliott and her husband Jordan, Aaron Mull and his wife Lindsey; five great grandchildren, Elliott Tripp, Dalton Hunn, Easton Scheer, Callen Elliott and Jovie Elliott; brothers, Gary Smith and his wife Marti of Larned, Doug Smith and his wife Mary of Larned. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Gene Mull; brothers, James Smith, and Curtis Smith; sisters, Marlene Hamilton and Sarah Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend with Pastor Larry Schumacher and Reverend James A. Strasen officiating. Kenneth “Ken” Reed Grauerholz, 82, passed away October 24, 2025, at The University of Kansas, in Great Bend, Kansas. He was born August 27, 1943, in Kensington, to Reed &amp; Mildred (Peterson) Grauerholz.

Ken moved to the Great Bend area in 1980, coming from Nebraska. He worked hard all his life. He was a truck driver for Massey Ferguson then, worked as a mechanic in the oilfield. He was a fan of WWE wrestling and football. He became a regular card player at the Senior Center.

Survivors include his son, Kenton Grauerholz and his wife Brittany of Great Bend, Kenneth Royce Cochran from Kansas City; adopted son, Carl Grauerholz and his wife Alisa of Ellis; daughters, Lynn Dietrich of Hays, Bella Dietrich of Ellsworth; sister, Wanda Snow of Agra; brother, Dean Grauerholz of Beloit; grandchildren, Elena Grauerholz, Kenton Grauerholz, Jr., Madison Grauerholz, Joseph Grauerholz, Wrylin Bell, Erica Mac, Nicoli Carpenter, MJ Ball, and Isiah Ball; one great grandchild; and significant other, Lori Kempinski of Great Bend. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Howard Grauerholz.

Per Ken’s wishes, he has willed his body to further the education of others. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Veramae Henre, 93, passed away Oct. 10, 2025, at Hays Medical Center, in Hays, Kan. She was born April 15, 1932, in Russell, Kan., to Herman and Pauline (Funk) Boxberger. She married Bob G. Henre Oct. 4, 1953, in Russell. He passed away Dec. 30, 2011.

Veramae had been a Great Bend resident since 1961, coming from Beloit and Hoisington. Alongside her husband, they owned Zarah Prescription Shop for many years plus various rental properties and she kept the books for their business ventures. After selling the shop, she worked at Blue Cross and Blue Shield as an administrative assistant. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, where she loved to be of service and found herself volunteering her time. She also volunteered at Central Kansas Medical Center then at St. Rose Medical Pavilion. Veramae looked forward to spending time with friends in her bridge clubs and loved to bake and share her creations with friends and family, always adding, and eventually sharing, her secret ingredients.

Survivors include her daughter, Dianne Lance of Olathe; son, Roger Henre of Wichita; brother, Gerald (Shirley) Boxberger of Russell; grandchildren, Kyle Lance and Kelsey (Jose) Valdez; and her great grandchildren, Skylinn Lance, Aiden Valdez and Calvin Valdez. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and brothers, Wilmer Boxberger and Richard Boxberger. The family wishes to extend a heart felt Thank You to Veramae’s daughter of the heart, Debbie Munz, who has been a longtime friend, and for the last 4 years a trusted caregiver and companion. Plus Thank You to the River Bend staff and community, who created a caring and safe home away from home for the last 2 years.

Barbara Jean Espinosa, 83, passed away October 15, 2025, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. She was born on February 16, 1942, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Melvin Clay and Frances Elizabeth (Jackson) Simpson. On May 9, 1972, she married Robert “Bob” Espinosa in Riverside County, California. He survives.

A lifetime resident of Great Bend, Barabara was a reflexologist and herbologist, owning and operating Specials Herbs and Vitamins. She also worked as a waitress at the Holiday Inn and other area restaurants. Barbara was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was a talented seamstress, enjoyed flower gardening, crafts, baking, fishing, and hunting. Barbara loved spending time with her friends and family, including her long-haired dachshund, Deliah.

Survivors include her husband of the home; son, Paul Frazier of Springfield, Illinois; daughters, Natalia Espinosa of Great Bend, and Tammy Gilbert of Ava, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Patrick Gilbert and wife Danielle, Chris Gilbert and his wife Emily, Rileigh Wagner, Dylan Frazier, Dalton Frazier, Scott Frazier, and Bobbi Jo Frazier; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; brother, Kenny W. Simpson and wife Denise; sister, Ruby Feil of Great Bend; numerous nieces and nephews; and witness and friend, Roy Mitchell of Houston, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Michael Gilbert; brother, Melvin W. Simpson, Jr.; sisters, Doris Case and husband Glenn, and Nelta Jones and husband Jerry; and brother-in-law, Ron Feil.

Barbara Jean Espinosa, age 83

Deon Louise Lupton, 96, passed away October 21, 2025, at Medicalodges in Great Bend, Kansas. She was born June 7, 1929, at St. Rose Hospital in Great Bend to Lewis &amp; Ruth (Miller) Rankin. Deon married Gail Lupton December 20, 1948, at Peace Lutheran in Albert. They built a legacy together for 49 years until his passing January 30, 1997.

Deon graduated from Otis High School. She attended Fort Hays State University and taught in a one room school for several years. After raising her children, she substitute taught. Deon had a playful spirit and loved to tell jokes. Many would find themselves at the receiving end of a good practical joke and her good-natured teasing. She loved to golf with the LGA at Lake Barton. She was an accomplished seamstress. Deon loved to get together with friends and play Bridge. She loved to read anything and everything; there was not a book on the shelf she had picked up that she did not enjoy. She played an active role in the area beautification projects and took pride in making Great Bend that much more “great”. She was active with RSVP, the Blood Mobile, and TLC Discoveries. Deon was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include daughters, Susan Weaver and her husband Brad of Springfield, Mo., Paula Lupton of Great Bend; daughter-in-law, Anita Lupton of Kingwood, Tex.; grandchildren, Jason Weaver (Marissa), Megan Weaver (Gahn Fallone), Jennifer Garcia (Frank), Kevin Lupton (Laura), Kathryn Cox (Justin), Gregory Lupton, Lexi Held (Ryan); and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband; daughter, Jan Nelson and her husband Curtis; son, Brent Lupton; brother, Duane Rankin; and grandson, David Nelson.

Deon Louise Lupton, age 96

Garry H. Batt, 81, of rural Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at his home with his wife by his side.

Garry was born October 29, 1943 in Russell, Kansas. He was one of three children to Herman and Esther (Elsasser) Batt. He grew up in northern Barton County and graduated from Hoisington High School in 1961. He then attended and graduated from the Missouri Auction School in Kansas City, Missouri. He served his country in the US Army from 1962 to 1964 and saw active duty in Vietnam. After his tour of duty, he returned to northern Barton County.

Garry met, fell in love, and was united in marriage to Ellen Boxberger on October 23, 1965 in Milberger, Kansas. This union was blessed with two sons; Terry and Tom. They lived in Milberger for a short time before moving out to the farm.

Garry was a Farmer and Rancher. He also was owner and operator of Garry Batt Real Estate Auction and worked with Don Krug with K&amp;B Auction Service. He was very active in trap shooting contests for many years. He was an oil pumper for many years and did dirt work for H.S. Radke. He served on the Township Board for 35 years. He was a member of the American Trap Association and the Kansas Trap Association and was a life member of the Russell V.F.W. #6240. He loved playing Polka with the Dutchmasters and the Polka Kings. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and traveling around with Ellen.

Garry’s surviving family include his wife of 59 years, Ellen of the home; son, Tom Batt (Sandy) of Russell, Kansas; sister, Shirley Dewald of Russell, Kansas; two grandchildren, Christopher Batt and Cody Batt; two step grandchildren, Craig Boos and Jakob Boos; three great grandchildren, Sophia Batt, Hagen Batt, and Cheyenne Batt; and step great grandchild, Claire Boos.

Garry was preceded in death by his parents; son, Terry Batt; and sister, Arletta Batt.

Celebration of Garry’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, October 24, 2025 at St. John Lutheran Church of Russell. Burial will follow at the Trinity Bender Hill Cemetery. Gary H. Batt, age 81

On October 10, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, Shirley L. Desemo (Wurm) passed peacefully at her daughter’s home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, walking gently from this life into the light and love of our Lord.&nbsp; During the last two months of her life, we were blessed to share many special moments with her; offering love and comfort.

Shirley was born on May 4th, 1936, to Leonard F. and Lucy M. Wurm (Schartz) in Larned, Kansas, and was raised on the family farm nearby. She often reminisced about her many childhood adventures: learning to drive a tractor, flying in her father’s airplane, cooking hearty meals for the farmhands, and tending to the chickens. One memory that never faded was the day she discovered a snake under a hen while collecting eggs, a startling moment that she delighted in retelling throughout her life.

Shirley’s lifetime spanned an era of remarkable change. Shirley was also known for her independent spirit and quiet determination, even as a young school girl. She was incensed that the schoolboys were allowed traveling sports teams while the girls were not. Once, when the boys left for an away game, Shirley rallied all the girls to skip school, a bold, spirited act of protest that captured her lifelong sense of fairness and courage to stand up for what was right.

She loved her siblings (Juanita, Joe, and Glenda) and often spoke of memories with them when they were growing up. A natural caregiver, Shirley took on the care of her two younger siblings while completing her studies and graduating from Larned High School in 1954.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Later that year, Shirley married her love, Joseph B. Desemo, in August. Together they raised four wonderful children.&nbsp; There was also a period of time that she helped care for her young sister in-laws Sarah and Suzy.

Throughout her life, she made her home in several Kansas towns while growing up and raising a family that included Larned, Garden City, Dodge City, and Great Bend, as well as brief stays in Boulder, Colorado, and Cheyenne, Wyoming.&nbsp; Then in her fifties, she relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico where she was for the remainder of her life.

Shirley was a loving mother, involved in her children’s lives. While much of her early life was centered on raising her family, she also pursued a variety of careers. She worked as a real estate agent, a bookkeeper for Pepsi-Cola, and an insurance agent for Bankers Life, and later in life she managed her farmland and crops in cooperation with her dedicated farmers. Despite having no formal training in agriculture, she proved remarkably adept at marketing her grain, a reflection of her intelligence and intuition.

A natural athlete, Shirley excelled in sports. She was a talented fast-pitch softball pitcher as a young woman, enjoyed bowling in the Dodge City leagues, and later discovered a lasting passion for tennis. She perfected a cunning slice and competed in numerous tournaments, always relishing the game’s challenge and camaraderie.

Shirley also possessed a creative and nurturing spirit. She loved cooking and rarely relied on recipes, a talent she passed down to some of her children. A voracious reader, she devoured books of all kinds, and she also had a gift for writing witty poems and clever quips. Her green thumb was legendary; flowers and plants seemed to flourish under her care.

Her love of adventure extended beyond the home. Shirley enjoyed traveling to Europe, Jamaica, Australia, New Zealand, and Hawaii; but her heart was most at peace in Mexico, especially Cabo San Lucas.&nbsp; She loved inviting family and friends to join her and returned often as the beaches and the Sea of Cortez continually drew her back.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Those who knew Shirley will remember her for her independence, resilience, honesty, and zest for life, qualities that made her admired and loved. She never met a stranger and forged lifelong friendships wherever she went. Her laughter and warmth filled every room and she had a rare gift for bringing people together. In her later years, she joined a singles group, serving on its board and frequently hosting dinners and gatherings. Wherever she lived, she became the heart of her neighborhood, organizing get-togethers and building connections that turned neighbors into friends.

As a grandmother, whether in person or across the miles, she loved supporting her grandchildren. She delighted in attending her grandchildren’s school activities and sporting events, cheering from the stands and showing off her favorite cheer.&nbsp;

In 2020, Shirley moved to Coronado Villa (a 55+ independent living community in Albuquerque) where she spent five happy years and made many new friends and memories.

Shirley is survived by her children: Dan Desemo (Kathy) of Alden, KS; Jennifer Turk of Jourdanton, TX; and Ann Baca (Chris) of Albuquerque, NM. Her legacy continues through her surviving eight beloved grandchildren: Sara Butler (Cade), Scott Behee, Kristy Behee, Chase Behee, Joanna Farr (Joseph), Kalin Baca, Kolten Baca, and Kilah Baca — and six great-grandchildren: Breeley Butler, Cayson Butler, Joseph Farr, Luke Farr, Mason Farr, and Hunter Farr.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucy and Leonard Wurm; siblings Juanita Davis, Glenda Hitschmann, and Joseph Wurm; former husband Joe Desemo; daughter Debi Desemo (formerly married to Max Behee); and grandsons Ryan Desemo (Melissa) and Jonathon Turk.

In God’s care now, her light will continue to shine from heaven; gentle, warm and everlasting.&nbsp; Her memories will be forever a blessing to all who knew her.

Because of her lifelong love of flowers, friends and family are invited to honor her memory by sending floral tributes, which she would have adored, or if they prefer, by making a donation to the American Heart Association in her memory.

Shirley L. Desemo (Wurm), age 89

Phillip Ryan Berger, 37, passed peacefully October 16, 2025, in St. Joseph, Missouri. Born on October 29, 1987, in Great Bend, Kansas, he was a longtime resident of Barton County, and had become a resident of St. Joseph, Missouri, in recent years. On May 29, 2014, Phillip married his soul mate, Tara Michelle O'Callaghan in Lawrence, Kansas. He was the son of Roger and Patricia (Shomber) Berger.

Phillip worked for Plunkett's Pest Control of St. Joseph, Missouri. During his employment, his charismatic personality fostered connections with each of his clients and coworkers. Phillip loved deeply and his family and the friends who became family meant everything to him.

On September 9, 2025, Tara, Phillip's bride and companion for the last nearly 20 years, passed peacefully in their home in St. Joseph, Missouri. Phillip and Tara met in 2006 at Friend's University in Wichita, Kansas. Tara was equally charismatic, hilarious and had such a beautiful heart. She was Phillip's best friend. Together, they had two beautiful children, Annalie Jean Berger and Lucas Dean Berger. Phillip and Tara often bonded over their love of music. Their collection was vast and if you had an emotion - Phillip had the perfect song to help you through. He believed that music could convey what his heart couldn't put into words. You could often find Phillip next to a fire with his guitar and kids.

Survivors include his children of the home; mother, Trish Berger of Great Bend; brother, Chris Berger and wife Megan of Great Bend; sisters, Sarah Berger and fiancé Jacob Wilson, Great Bend, and Lydia Burress and husband Seth of Great Bend; grandmother-in-law, Jeanne Webb of St. Jospeh, Missouri; brother-in-law, John O’Callaghan (Jenny) of St. Joseph, Missouri; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Paul Frederick Berscheidt, 83, passed away October 17, 2025, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.&nbsp;He was born on June 30, 1942, in Ellinwood, Kansas, to Frederick and Pauline (Kimpler) Berscheidt.&nbsp;On June 23, 1962, he married Trella Ann Scheuerman in Ellinwood. She passed on September 12,&nbsp;2019.&nbsp;A lifetime area resident, Paul held many positions working with people. He started as a retail&nbsp;associate at Sears, then moved on to being a manager of two Drummer Boy locations, then a&nbsp;manager at Ozark Sam’s. Paul, along with Trella, became the owners and operators of Paul’s Family&nbsp;Restaurant, before he became the head of security at Fuller Brush. He shifted back to being an&nbsp;assistant manager at Gibson’s, before going into sales at Abbey’s Best Buy Carpet Outlet, where he&nbsp;retired. Paul Frederick Berscheidt, age 83

Edwin Harold Mauler, 87, passed away peacefully at home on October 16, 2025, in Great Bend, Kansas. He was born March 17, 1938, in rural Otis, to Herman &amp; Cecilia (Garvert) Mauler.

Ed married Sharon K. Tammen on January 14, 1960, in Great Bend. He proudly served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged as Sargent. He, with a partner, founded a bridge construction company, L and M Contractors in 1971. His partner retired in 1996, and he purchased his portion and continued to own and operate the business, serving as President of the company. He also enjoyed his time on the family farm and enjoyed working the ground and raising cattle until his retirement. He never stopped managing the farmland.

Ed was very active in the community, holding memberships with the VFW, American Legion, Chamber of Commerce, Stone Ridge country club, National Contractors Association, Barton Community College Cougar Booster Club, NFIB, Rotary club, Kansas State Alumni Association, and Panther Booster Club. He served on the board for the Kansas Contractors Association. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Edwin received a Quilt of Valor for his faithful service to our country.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 65 years, Sharon K. Mauler; sons, Curt E. Mauler and his wife Paula of Great Bend, Scott A. Mauler and his wife Kathy of Wichita; grandchildren, Sarah Maneth and her husband Jared of Great Bend, Jenna Mauler, Lauryn Mauler, Ashleigh Mauler, Quentin Mauler all of Wichita; great grandson, Colt Maneth; and sister, Elaine Crouse of Great Bend. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rosemary Mauler; and brother, Ralph Mauler.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 20, 2025, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Amirtharajan Duraisamy presiding. Burial will follow at Great Bend Cemetery with Fort Riley military honors. He served on the board for the Kansas Contractors Association. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Edwin Harold Mauler, age 87

Jason Andrew Loss, 53, passed away on October 10, 2025, in Great Bend, Kansas. He was born May 3, 1972, in Lamar, Colorado to Robert “Bob” and Marilyn (Moore) Loss. He married Christy Klinesourgy and from this union, had triplet daughters, Ashlyn, Calistia, and Norah. They later divorced.

Jason was a class of 1990 Great Bend High School graduate. He later enlisted in the United States Army and attended Warrant Officer School and Advanced Individual Training. He flew helicopters in the states and in Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina during his service to this country. Following his military service, Jason was employed as a private helicopter pilot.

Survivors include his father, Robert "Bob" Loss; daughters, Ashlyn Loss, Calistia Loss and Norah Loss; and brother, Robert J. Loss (Jamme). He is preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Lou Loss.

Per Jason’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date.

Henry Eugene Rowe, 94, passed away October 13, 2025, at Azria Health Woodhaven in Great Bend, Kansas. He was born August 31, 1931, in Great Bend, to Frederick Rowe.

Henry married Carol Riemann October 20, 2014, in Great Bend. He worked for many years at Great Bend Packing as a meat processor. He was a cowboy at heart and loved riding horses on the Kansas landscape. There was not a western movie, Bonanza, or Wagon Train episode he had not seen. He enjoyed watching Law and Order as well. He was a member of First Bible Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Rowe of Salina; stepsons, Kenny Appleby and Domanic Henry Davis; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; son, Scott Rowe; brothers, Billy Rowe, Lawrence Rowe; sisters, Daisy Harvey and Ruth Lisenby.

Henry Eugene Rowe, age 94

Harold Lee Langrehr, 87, passed away October 14, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at his home in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on October 14, 1938, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Henry and Glenda (Panning) Langrehr. On February 26, 1959, he married Virginia Kiger at the First Christian Church in Great Bend.

Prior to living in Wichita for the past 11 years, Harold was a resident of Great Bend. He graduated from Great Bend High School Class of 1956, and then proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Upon discharge, he worked as a roughneck in the oilfield, later becoming the director of sales for Parrish Motors, then went on to work at American State Bank, retiring as the Vice President and Loan Officer, as well as a real estate agent for John Jaco.

Harold was a member of First Chirstian Church of Great Bend and Central Community Church of Wichita. He was involved with Kiwanis Club, Elks, and American Legion Post #180. Harold loved sports his entire life, from being part of the GBHS 1955 State Champion Baseball Team, playing football, tennis and bowling, to watching baseball and basketball. He also loved hunting and fishing. Harold most cherished spending time with friends and family, specifically his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years; daughter, Jennifer Webster and husband Mitch of Maize; son, Jeff Langrehr and wife Sherry of Raymore, Missouri; five grandchildren, Rebecca Pringle and husband Scott of Wichita, Katie Hartz and husband Chance of Ft. Worth, Texas; Conner Langrehr of San Diego, California, McKenna Bush and husband Ryan of Boston, Massachusetts, and Brooks Langrehr of Raymore, Missouri; eight great grandchildren, Adelynn Parr, Amelia Parr, Jack Pringle, Lily Pringle, Paxton Hartz, Andi Hartz, Cooper Hartz, and Collin Bush; sister-in-law, Kathryn Langrehr of Maize; and numerous, beloved nieces and nephews.

Nathaniel G. “Nate” Larkin, 25, died tragically as a result of a motorcycle accident on October 10, 2025. He was born September 5, 2000, in Hoisington, Kansas. Nate graduated from Hoisington High School in 2019 and then enlisted in the United States Navy. He served honorably for five years and was recently discharged in January of this year. After traveling around the world with the Navy he returned home to his roots in Hoisington and worked as a diesel mechanic for Kan-Equip.

Nate had a passion for life and lived every moment to the fullest. He was known to always have an upbeat and positive attitude. He had many hobbies, especially anything with wheels and anything to do with hunting.

Survivors include: his mother, Debbie Larkin of Hoisington; sister, Shelby Taylor and husband Zach and nephew, of Kansas City; grandmother, Wanda Schroeder of Hoisington; aunt, Brenda Krumm and cousin, Alex Krumm, both of Chanute; stepfather, Bryan Freeman of Great Bend and stepbrothers and sisters; his many friends, and those he considered his extended family, work family, and church family; and of course, his loyal companion, his dog, Bronchs.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Max Schroeder and his uncle, Rob Krumm.

Family will greet friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.

Edna married William H. Harper, Sr. July 28, 1957, in Newton. They built a beautiful legacy for 66 years until William passed away February 9, 2024.

Edna worked for Fuller Brush as a box maker in the broom department for many years until she retired in January 1988. She loved to bake and share her recipes and delicacies with friends and family. She collected many dolls in her lifetime and valued the beauty and characteristics of each one. She was a faithful member of First Bible Baptist Church. She lived her faith by ministering the gospel and sharing God’s love with others.

Survivors include sons; William “Bill” H. Harper, Jr. and his wife Robin of Oak Harbor, Wash., Robert “Bob” L. Harper and his wife Pam of McPherson; daughter, Glenda Taylor and her husband George of Mills, Wyo.; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and many friends and extended family members. Renee Marie Larson, 65, passed away October 7, 2025, at her home in Great Bend, Kansas. She was born on September 30, 1960, in Wichita, and lovingly raised by Bernard “Bud” and Mary Gladys (Borges) Stein. Renee was married to Daniel C. Tatman until his passing in 1987, with their union being blessed with two children. She then married Douglas W. Larson; they later divorced but remained great friends.

Renee graduated with her bachelor’s degree in accounting and business, then opened her business as an accountant, along with being an amazing homemaker. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and formerly of KPAC. Renee loved horses, music, and dogs. She also loved to watch the sunrise while enjoying a cup of coffee with loved ones. Renee took the time to appreciate the beautiful scenery that God created for us. Her favorite thing to do was to spend time with friends and family, especially time spent with her grandchildren.

Renee Marie Larson, age 65

Nancy Soeken, age 76, passed away in her sleep on October 6, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society long term care facility located in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Nancy was born on March 22, 1949, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Albert H. and Viola L. (Knop) Soeken. She spent her childhood on a farm just outside Claflin, Kansas, and graduated from Claflin High School. She later resided in Great Bend.

Nancy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend. Her life was grounded in her faith, and she was a participant in many church groups.

Outside of church, Nancy’s hobbies included listening to country music, gardening, and stamp collecting. Her life was further enriched by her pet cats. Nancy was also active in support of mental health for everyone. She was a member of NAMI and loved caring for and helping others. In more recent years, she loved receiving cards from her friends and family and posting them on her bulletin board where she could enjoy looking at them.

Nancy is survived by her siblings, Marilyn Buczinski of Great Bend and Merle Soeken of Mountain Home, Arkansas; nieces, Tonia Navarro of Hutchinson, Terese Beal (Wade) of Harper, Tiffany Steinle (Brent) of Ankeny, Iowa, Jessica Runnels of Wichita, Lisa Darling of Lowell, Michigan; nephews, John Buczinski of Rozel, Eric Soeken of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Aaron Soeken of Katy, Texas; and many grand nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Viola Soken; her sister, Donna Strube; and her brothers-in-law, Art Strube and Larry Buczinski.

Memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend, with Pastor Jay Welshonse presiding. Inurnment will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Claflin. Nancy Soeken, age 76

Norma Jeanne Gotsche, 93, passed away October 6, 2025, at Medicalodges of Great Bend, in Great Bend, Kansas. She was born May 12, 1932, in Kansas City, Missouri to Robert and Alta (Kozler) Horsley. Jeanne married Irving J. Gotsche November 27, 1954, in Salina. He preceded her in death on July 2, 2019.

Jeanne graduated from Salina High School class of 1950, Marymount College in 1954, then went to Kansas State University and Fort Hays State University to further her education. She worked as a secretary and a substitute teacher for 10 years. She was employed at Barton Community College as an instructor before retiring August 1989. She worked as a clerk for the Kitchen Cupboard before devoting her time as a homemaker. Jeanne was a member of First Christian Church, Barton County Historical Society, Zeta Gamma Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha and Golden Belt Community Concert. She was a past member of Great Bend Petroleum Club, American Legion Argonne Post #180, and Lake Barton Golf Club where she had served in many capacities.

Survivors include her daughter, Pam Gabel of Overland Park; sons, Kurt Gotsche of Wichita, Steve Gotsche and his wife Linda of Manhattan, and Eric Gotsche and his wife Carol of Great Bend; grandchildren, Ali Gabel, Meghan Gabel and her husband Rod Harper, Brad Gabel and his wife Bailey, Adam Gotsche and his wife Kelsey, Ryan Gotsche and his wife Alex; and great grandchildren, Collins Gotsche, Kyler Gotsche, Fallon Gotsche, and Griffin Gotsche. Jeanne Gotsche, age 93

Deborah “Debbie” Sue Postlethwaite, 75, passed away October 7, 2025, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, in Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born November 29, 1949, in Great Bend, to William Chambers, Sr. and Jean (Turner) Ewing. She married Gerald Arlon "J.P." Postlethwaite June 3, 1972, in Great Bend.

Debbie was a Great Bend High School class of 1967 graduate. She worked for Aaron's Repair as a secretary for many years before retirement. She was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She held membership at American Legion Post #180 Auxiliary. Debbie loved to watch game shows, with her favorite being The Wall or Wheel of Fortune. She enjoyed reading and doing puzzles on her I-pad with her beloved cat, Bella, by her side. Her greatest accomplishment was the legacy she leaves behind, being her children and grandchildren.

Deborah "Debbie" Sue Postlethwaite, age 75

Bob LeRoy died peacefully Sunday, October 5, 2025, slipping from this world to the next. Bobby was born at his family farmhouse west of Great Bend on December 14, 1931. He was the fourth child of Harry and Ruby (Travis) LeRoy with three older sisters: Dorothy, Mildred and Lois.

Bob attended country school through 8th grade, graduated from Great Bend High School in 1949, and attended Kansas State University before joining the Navy in 1952.

Bob married LouAnn Farmer at the Congregational Church on June 28, 1953, a beautiful afternoon preceded by a rainy morning. Their love story continued for 72 years! Following their wedding, they moved to Pensacola where Bob was stationed. After Bob's Navy duty, they moved to the family farm where Bob started his farming career working with his Dad. He has a passion for farming – continuing his career well into his 80s – and passed that love on to his two sons.

Bob was an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. He was active in the community as a volunteer and serving on many boards including as chairman for the Great Bend Coop, Barton County Extension Board, Barton County Farm Bureau, Kansas Farm Management, and Golden Belt Pork Producers, and the board of directors for American State Bank to name a few. Bob was also a member of American Legion Post #180 and the Elks.

Bob was an avid and skilled card player, enjoying bridge, pitch, spades and more. He had a habit of pulling out a card and waiting... he knew before you knew what card you were going to play. He truly loved playing cards with family and friends! In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting trips and playing many sports like softball and volleyball. Bob and LouAnn enjoyed dancing, and watching and attending sports events, including Great Bend High School games, Barton Cougar basketball and K-State sports. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially time with grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bob enjoyed life, had a great sense of humor with a good measure of orneriness thrown in. He will be remembered for demonstrating love in action. Choosing to spend his time helping others without expecting recognition was an easy choice for Bob. He exhibited one of the rarest forms of love: a servant's heart.

Paul Joseph Wapelhorst, 87, passed away September 29, 2025, at Azria Health Woodhaven, Great Bend, Kansas. He was born on September 11, 1938, in Colwich, Kansas, to Raymond B. and Cecilia (Weber) Wapelhorst. On December 9, 1967, he married Charlotte Harders in Great Bend.

A nearly lifetime resident of Great Bend, Paul was a salesman. He worked for Self Service Drug, Gibson-Titus-Stafford, and retired from Parts, Inc. He proudly served the country for 6 years in the Army National Guard. Paul was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish, attending mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church, and was a member of the American Legion Post #180.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years; daughter, Jennifer Cason and husband Ken of Maize; granddaughter, Lily Cason of Maize; brother, Dan Wapelhorst and wife Joyce of Great Bend; sisters, Rosemary Phillips of Sioux City, Iowa, Doris Karst and husband Allen of Great Bend, Clara Evans and husband Robert of Newton, and Teresa Connelly and husband James of Wichita; sister-in-law, Colette Wapelhorst of Shawnee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Paul Joseph Wapelhorst, age 87

On November 28, 2023, Raymond L. “Ray” Demel passed away peacefully at Medicalodges in Goddard, Kansas, after a long illness. The son of Frank and Mary (Klug) Demel, Ray was born August 3, 1948, in Claflin, Kansas. In 1972, he married Lois Schneweis; they later divorced. He then married Patricia “Pat” (Stoppel) Keil on February 3, 1979, in Great Bend, Kansas. To their union, they had a daughter, Melissa R. Demel.

Raymond was a 29-year veteran of the Army and Army Reserves, serving in both Vietnam and Desert Storm. He was honorably retired with the rank of Sergent First Class. Ray was a great patriot. He enjoyed leading the Color Guard in the Hoisington Labor Day Parade and serval cemeteries on Memorial Day.

Ray worked serval jobs in his lifetime, including for farmers, The Odin Store, Thies Packing Company, beef selector for TopCo and Dillons, the Job Service Center, United Parcel, Exxon, and Bachman Production Specialties. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish and a lifetime member of the V.F.W.

Survivors include his wife, Pat, of the home; seven siblings, Delores (Jim) Rosenberg of Simsbury, Conn., Rosie Schremmer of Hoisington, Robert (Rosemary) Demel of Hoisington, Marvin (Phyllis) Demel of Kanopolis, Allen (Margaret) Demel of Elk City, Okla., and Mark (Barbara) Demel of Hoisington; sister-in-law, Darleen Demel of Hoisington; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Demel; parents, Mary and Frank Demel; brother, Tom Demel; brothers-in-law, Kenny Schremmer, Ernest Stoppel and LeRoy Stoppel; and nephew, Lance Walters.

Cremation has taken place and memorial funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday Oct. 11, 2025, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Father Warren Stecklein presiding. Inurnment will follow at Golden Belt Memorial Park, Great Bend, with military honors conducted by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Following the graveside service, everyone is invited to Pat’s house for a meal and fellowship. Memorials have been designated to the Diabetes Foundation, Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.

The son of Frank and Mary (Klug) Demel, Ray was born August 3, 1948, in Claflin, Kansas. In 1972, he married Lois Schneweis; they later divorced. He then married Patricia “Pat” (Stoppel) Keil on February 3, 1979, in Great Bend, Kansas. To their union, they had a daughter, Melissa R. Demel.Raymond was a 29-year veteran of the Army and Army Reserves, serving in both Vietnam and Desert Storm. He was honorably retired with the rank of Sergent First Class. Ray was a great patriot. Robert "Bob" Scott Baker, age 79 (Service Update)

Edward, the son of Milton “Shark” Miller and Mary Ann (Wells) Miller, was born in El Dorado, KS on February 19, 1960. He resided in Hudson, KS all his life. As a young man, he was known to demo cars in local fairs and enjoyed competing in dirt track racing on Friday nights. He worked his entire life in the oil field. He started out as a derrick hand and ended his career as the Driller, managing a 4-man crew. He spent time fishing, hunting and learning about wildlife.

Ed met Sherry (Wheeler) Miller in May of 1981. The two married August 20, 1983, spending a total of 44 years together. They had two daughters, Melissa and Melanie Miller.

Ed loved spending time with his grandchildren, Kinnley and Kyler, teaching them to ride motorcycles and shoot BB guns.

Ed passed away September 29th, 2025, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. He will be missed and remembered by many.

Survivors include wife Sherry, of the home. Daughters; Melissa Miller of Liberal, KS. Melanie Miller (Eric Cape) of Great Bend, KS. Grandchildren; Kinnley and Kyler Cape of Great Bend, KS. Brother; Mike Miller of Hudson, KS.

Linda Katherine Francis, 65, passed away August 6, 2025, surrounded by family at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. She was born on July 6, 1960, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Clifford “Cliff” and Janet (Polzin) Bieberle. On January 8, 1986, she married Todd Francis on a mountain top in Winter Park, Colorado. A lifetime Great Bend resident, Linda worked in the HR department for Central Kansas Medical Center. She then shifted to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office as an administrative assistant. Linda was a member of Prince of Peace Parish. She enjoyed skiing, baseball, and sewing, known for being a talent seamstress. Linda most enjoyed time spent with family, especially with her grandsons.

Survivors include her husband of the home; daughter, Samantha Elsen and husband Alex of Great Bend; four grandsons, Adrian Elsen, Mack Elsen, Kade Elsen, and Dex Elsen; two brothers, Jim Bieberle and wife Crystal of Great Bend, and Danny Bieberle and significant other Tammy Becker of Medicine Lodge; two sisters, Vicki Woodral and husband Bill, and Donna Eshleman and husband Matt, all of Great Bend; numerous nieces, nephews, and loved ones.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the Black Walnut Event Venue, 292 NE 10 Ave., Great Bend, Kansas.
