KHSAA approves change to number of fans allowed at activities

The Kansas State High School Activities Association Board of Directors voted Wednesday to allow up to four fans per participant at activities starting Jan. 29.

The measure approved by the board, 46-27, also allows local school districts to have stricter limitations.

In December, the board voted to allow only two family members to attend winter sports events and other activities until Jan. 28.

KSHSAA Executive Director Bill Faflick told the member schools that local control is “absolutely appropriate.”

“If you’re not ready for four (spectators) in your facility, then that is your call,” Faflick said. “We believe this is a good action our executive board put forth and now it comes down to our schools to implement.”

He added masking and social distancing is still required by all those in attendance and participants that are not actively taking part in the game or sport.
