Investigation continues: Man dies in shootout with Kan. officers

KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement authorities continue their investigation of a fatal officer-involved shooting early Wednesday in Kansas City, Kansas.

Just after midnight, police were investigating a stolen vehicle in the 2700 block of Wood Street when they encountered a suspicious vehicle parked in the area, according to a media release.

Upon inspection, they observed the single occupant, an adult white male, unresponsive with drug paraphernalia and a handgun.

Officers, utilizing protective shields, attempted to make contact with the individual who then opened fire on them.

Officers returned fire and retreated. KCKPD Special Operations Unit then engaged and determined that the individual was deceased.

On Friday afternoon, Kansas City, Missouri police reported the were still working on their investigation and have yet to identify the name of the victim or additional details.
