After learning they would not be playing in this years NBC World Series, the Great Bend Bats climbed on the bus for a long trip to Liberal to face the Bee Jays in what would be the final two games of the regular season for Great Bend's summer collegiate team.
The result was predictable.
Liberal rolled past the Bat Cats 14-3 in game one of the two game series. The Bat Cats did take an early 2-0 lead but the Bee Jays who are going to play in Wichita next week, scored four runs in the second, seven in the third and two more in the fourth before ending the game early due to the 10-run rule.
The Bat Cats (18-20) will play the Bee Jays once again Thursday night to close out the 2020 regular season.
The NBC World Series announced the 13 teams who will play in this year's event on Wednesday. In a normal year, Great Bend would have made the field as the fourth place team from the Sunflower Collegiate League, but due to the pandemic, the field was reduced to 13.
