SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating a man's murder and have made an arrest.
Just after 10:30 p.m. September 25, police responded to report of a shooting in the 2200 Block SW Plass Avenue in Topeka, according to Police Captain Jerry Monasmith.
First responders found a man later identified as 39-year-old Durant R. Redmond of Topeka suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital with injuries considered to be life threatening. On September 27, Redmond died of his injuries.
On September 29, police asked for help to locate 31-year-old Chelsee A. Baugh (Retana) Topeka. Investigators believed she has information about the shooting and wanted to talk to her. Four days later, police did locate her.
On Monday evening, police reported they arrested David Jackson, 39, Oskaloosa, on requested charges of Murder in the 1st Degree and Criminal Possession of a weapon; convicted of person/drug felony for Redmond's death. Police have not indicated whether Baugh gave them details that led to the arrest.
