Alleged animal cruelty: Kan. deputies remove dogs, horses from property

MONTGOMERY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating alleged animal cruelty in southeast Kansas.

On July 26, deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 109 E. Bell Street in Wayside, Kansas, in connection with an animal cruelty investigation, according to Sheriff Ron Wade.

First responders removed nine dogs and two horses from the property.  The animals were exhibiting signs of malnourishment and injuries. The deputies took custody of the animals and arranged for their treatment by a local veterinarian. Subsequently, the animals were transported to a predetermined location for continued care.

The sheriff's office has not reported an arrest or additional details.
