No. 7 Cougar baseball team sweeps Butler

The seventh-ranked Cougar baseball teams scored early and often of both games during Saturday's doubleheader against Butler Community College. Barton scored five runs in the first three innings of game one, riding that to a 5-2 victory. The Cougars plated six runs in the first three innings of game two en route to a 9-6 win. Barton has now won five-straight series.

The Cougars did their damage against Butler's William Humphrey in game one, then did managed just five hits over the final three innings. Barton pitching, meanwhile, was dominant. Tegan Cain threw the first five innings for the win, walking four but striking out six and allowing just two earned runs on five hits. Bryan Bartels and Ivan Cox pitched two hitless innings and combined for three strikouts.

Ricardo Sanchez provided the two early runs with a homer in the first. Quinton Robertson and Dryden Howse each doubled and singled. Robby Bolin singled twice, drove in two, and scored twice out of the leadoff spot. Jaden Wiley and Grant Nottelmann each had two hits.

Five Cougar pitchers combined to allow just five hits in game two. Hunter Jones picked up the win with no earned runs on two hits in two innings. Reece Hemmerling provided the majority of the work, going five innings and striking out four. He allowed one earned run on one hits. Brett Allen, Tyrus Riley, and Kade Walked also pitched in the win.

Bolin tripled and doubled for his two hits. He came around to score three times. Nottlemann doubled and singled twice, driving in three runs. Howse doubled and walked three times.

The Cougars improve to 38-5 overall and begin a 4-game series against Cloud County Thursday at Lawson-Biggs Field.
