The Great Bend Bat Cats picked up a much needed win Wednesday night, edging Mulvane 4-3 in a Sunflower Collegiate League game played in Mulvane.

Trent Touchet launched a solo home run in the top of 8th inning to break a 3-3 tie and the Bat Cats held on for the victory that was just their second win in the last six games.

The win went to Travis Gilbert who pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief after Jayden Saylor had gone the first five innings. Gilbert allowed 3 hits while striking out two and walking three. Grant Thompson got the save after recording the final out of the game in the ninth.

Great Bend (5-6 4-4) will continue their Wichita area road trip Thursday night as they will play in Cheney at 7 pm against the Sunflower Seeds, a developmental league team that is just 1-7 on the season.

The Bat Cats finally return home Friday night to face the seeds in a 7pm game at Al Burns field.
