The Barton Community College women's golf team opened up their 2021-22 season posting a 42-stroke victory at the Central Kansas Classic held over two days at McPherson's Turkey Creek Golf Course.
Opening Monday's round with a 35-over 323, the Cougars followed with a 326 on Tuesday for 73-over 649 to widen their advantage over host Central Christian College as the Tigers completed the two rounds with 345 and 346 scores in finishing at 115-over 691.
Mathanee Pandee tied for the 28-player field lead following the first round, carding a 78 before sliding into the 3rd spot with an 82 to finish at 16-over 160. Pandee led the field with 20 pars in the thirty-six holes of action but ran into trouble in the final round on a trio of holes in off-setting a pair of birdies.
A pair of players fired a final round 1-over on the par 72 course to move up the leaderboard into the top spots as Central Christian's Mikyla Albert's winning 7-over 151 was six strokes better than Hastings College's Mackenzie Loseke's runner-up spot at 13-over 157.
Four additional Cougars joined Pandee in the top eight with Paulina Villavicencio, Pawinee Sukasem, and Pornnapa Inmee each finished tied for the 4th spot at 19-over 163. Inmee had the edge after the first round with an 80 for 3rd place but slipped into the fourth slot with a closing 83 as Sukasem posted 83-80 rounds while Villavicencio carded consistent 82-81 rounds.
Matilyn Newman made the largest jump of any players on the leaderboard, carding a 95 before vaulting into a tie for 8th place firing an 83 in finishing at 34-over 178.
Leading the Barton individuals entered into the Classic was Sasha Guinsbourg in 14th at 42-over 186 (92-94) with Haleigh Spray in 18th at 47-over 191 (91-100) and Jalyn Turner in 20th at 51-over 195 (97-98).
Barton returns to Turkey Creek next Monday for the two-day thirty-six hole Bethany College Classic slated for a 9:00 a.m. tee time.
