KANSAS CITY —Authorities are working to determine the cause of a house fire that injured two.
Just after 10a.m. Thursday, crews responded to a reported house fire in the 3000 block of College Avenue in Kansas City, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.
First responders observed heavy smoke and fire from the two-story residence. During the initial search of the home crews discovered an occupant on a rear stairwell who had been overcome by the heavy smoke conditions.
Firefighters quickly extricated the 60-year-old man from the home. He was treated and evaluated on scene by KCFD EMS before being transported in serious condition to a local hospital for further evaluation.
KCFD was able to get the fire under control at approximately 1040a.m One firefighter was also transported for evaluation of minor injuries.
