SHERIDAN COUNTY —One person died in an accident just after 3p.m. Wednesday in Sheridan County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1979 Kenworth flatbed truck-tractor driven by Shawn P. Kinder, 53, Wichita, was hauling an oil derrick, southbound on Kansas 23 Highway at Road 70 six and one half miles south of U.S. 24.
While attempting to make a right turn to enter a ditch, the oil derrick came into contact with the live power lines along the north side of Road 70.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle. A pedestrian Ramsey, Leonard M. Ramsey, 48, Natoma, was able to get into semi and apply the parking brake.
Kinder was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Mickey Leopold Funeral Home. Ramsey was not injured. Kinder was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
