MANHATTAN – A day after picking up the nod from the Doak Walker Award, Kansas State sophomore running back Deuce Vaughn has been named a semifinalist for the 2021 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, SPORTyler announced Thursday.

Vaughn is one of 16 players in the nation to be up for the award that goes to the top offensive player who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity. In addition, the nominee must either be born in Texas, graduated from a Texas High School, and played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year Division I Texas college.

A product of Round Rock, Texas, Vaughn is a semifinalist for the award for a second-straight year and is the only Wildcat to earn semifinalist status from the award, which began in 2013. Other Big 12 semifinalists for this year’s honor include Baylor quarterback Gerry Bohanon, Oklahoma running back Kennedy Brooks, Texas running back Bijan Robinson, Baylor running back Abram Smith and Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy.

Perhaps the top all-purpose running back in the nation, Vaughn has accumulated 987 rushing yards and 427 receiving yards this season, the only player in the nation to reach the 900/400 marks thus far in 2021. Vaughn is trying to become just the fourth player in Big 12 history and the third nationally in the last five years with 1,000 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in one season. He is 13 yards shy of the 17th 1,000-yard rushing season in school history, and he could become one of the top-10 fastest Wildcats in school history to hit the mark in a season.

Vaughn enters play this week ranked eighth nationally with 141.0 scrimmage yards per game, while he ranks fourth in the nation and tops among Power 5 players with 48 touches this year that have gone for 10 or more yards, which equate to 21.9% of his 219 touches this year.

Finalists will be announced on December 14, while the winner will be announced at an award banquet in Tyler, Texas on January 12, 2022.

Winners of four-in-a-row, Kansas State welcomes No. 11 Baylor this Saturday in the Wildcats’ Senior Day contest. Kickoff between the Wildcats and Bears is scheduled for 4:30 p.m., inside Bill Snyder Family Stadium, and the game will be televised by FS1. Fans can purchase tickets online at
