The Great Bend Bat Cats pounded out 20 hits and scored 23 runs Thursday night in a 23-8 bombing of the Sunflower Seeds in Cheney. The Bat Cats second straight win came against the Sunflower Collegiate League's developmental team in the first of a four game series that continues in Great Bend on Friday night.

Great Bend scored two runs in the first and then five more in the third to take a 7-1 lead. After the Seeds made it 7-3 with two in the bottom of the third inning, the Bat Cats exploded for four runs in the fifth, seven in the sixth and five more in the seventh to end the game early due to the run rule.

Jake Baker and Ben Brown each hit home runs for Great Bend as eleven different players knocked in at least one run. Six players had multiple hits led by Collin Meinert and Tyler Henry with three each.

Great Bend got back to the .500 mark on the season at 6-6 while improving their SCL record to 5-4. Sunflower dropped to 1-8 on the season.

The Bat Cats have a big opportunity this weekend with three more games against the Seeds starting Friday night at 7 pm at Al Burns Field. The two teams play again at Cheney on Saturday at 5 pm before returning to Great Bend to wrap up the series with a 3 pm game on Sunday afternoon.
