Officer saves Kansas officer's life at training center

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Police issued thanks on Tuesday to a Caney, Kan. police officer who saved one of their trainees from choking at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center.

According to a social media report, the Hutchinson officer turned purple due to lack of air and not being able to get the food out of his throat during a meal at the training academy.

Caney Officer Joe Elliott, recognized that the fellow officer was in serious trouble and performed a Heimlich maneuver on the officer.

As a result of Officer Elliott's quick actions the officers airway was cleared and he was able to breath again. The Officer was transported to an area hospital to be checked out.

The Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in Hutchinson is the main police academy for officers outside the state's largest cities.
