The Barton Community College softball team picked up a pair of five inning, run-rule shortened victories Wednesday at Cougar Field defeating Pratt Community College 19-0 and 27-1.

In addition to the nineteen opening game runs, the big story was Meleia Ingram as the freshman pitcher from Salina not only struck out twelve batters but sent the Beavers down in order every frame by throwing a rare perfect game outing improving to 16-4 on the year.

Striking out the side in three of the five innings, Ingram faced the minimum by not issuing any free passes with the Beavers only putting the ball in play three times on infield groundouts.

The perfect game is believed to be the program's first in atleast the last fifteen years, while the no-hitter is the first since Payton Reynolds' one walk with six strikeout performance blanking Garden City on March 4 of the 2017 season.

Offensively, the Cougars pounded out 47 hits in the twinbill, eight leaving the yard with six coming in game two highlighted by Peyton McCormick's trio of fence clearers.

Elina Bartlett contributed a pair to the total, the first leading off the opener's second inning before clearing the bags on a grand slam in the nightcap's third frame. The 8th dinger of the sophomore's season lit the big fly candle as McCormick followed with her first of the day as Mia Mascarenas sent the Cougars' third straight bomb out of play for her 5th of the year.

McCormick would come to the plate again in the inning for another solo shot as Barton sent seventeen to the dish in the 12-run frame, then belted her 13th home run of the year in the ensuing fourth inning, driving in another three runs of her six RBI afternoon.

Joining Bartlett for a game one homerun, Morgan Thatcher drove in two on her second ya-ya of the season highlighting a 7-run third inning.

Aly Lawrence produced her third of the season in the Cougars' 9-run, game two first frame on a 2-run shot.

At the top of the lineup, Laney Wood led all players with 7 hits, a pair of those coming on the two-bag variety and drove in three runs.

Four Cougars finished with six hits on the afternoon, Grace Hembree batting out of the No. 9 hole going a perfect 4-of-4 with an RBI while catching the no-hitter in the opener, then followed with a 2-for-4 performance including her second double of the day, driving in another pair of runs.

Bartlett and McCormick also finished with six hits, as did Allyson McDougal in the return to the lineup going 6-of-8. Missing the previous seven games, McDougal picked up where she left beginning with a first-pitch drive up the middle kick-starting a pair of 3-for-4 games including a double and triple in driving in four runs on the afternoon.

Brooklynn Angielski gave the Cougars another solid pitching performance in game two, scattering just eight hits with one walk and two strikeouts, improving to 11-6 on the sophomore's season.

Pratt's lone run came in the nightcap's second frame, a pair of infield singles within its three consecutive hits followed by a fielder's choice pushing across the tally.

Royals head into matchup against the Tigers on losing streak

NEW YORK (AP) — Aaron Judge hit a tiebreaking homer leading off the seventh inning that ended a 10-game drought, and the New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals 4-3 on Wednesday night to complete a three-game sweep.

With a runner at second base in the ninth, Cody Bellinger made a diving catch in right field on MJ Melendez’s sinking liner to preserve Fernando Cruz’s first career save.

Judge went deep for the first time since April 4 in Pittsburgh when he lifted a 1-0 sinker from John Schreiber (1-1) into the New York bullpen beyond the right-center fence.

Judge had three hits for the third time this season. He reached base four times and his batting average climbed 27 points to a major league-best .409.

Yankees starter Clarke Schmidt had some dominant moments and pitched 5 2/3 innings of three-run ball in his season debut. After recovering from rotator cuff tendinitis, the right-hander permitted four hits and threw 73 pitches.

Anthony Volpe hit a two-run double in the third and Bellinger had an RBI double in the fourth to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead.

Schmidt retired 11 straight before Drew Waters opened the fifth with a single and scored on Kyle Isbel's triple. Isbel scored the tying run on a groundout by Jonathan India.

Salvador Perez hit an RBI single four batters in before Schmidt settled down.

Kansas City starter Kris Bubic allowed three runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Mark Leiter Jr. (2-1) got four outs after Schmidt was lifted, and Cruz pitched two scoreless innings.

After the Royals tied the game, Bobby Witt Jr. swung at the first pitch and flied out to end the fifth.

Judge entered hitting .382 (13 for 34) over his previous 10 games.

dominant second quarter to get redemption for his dud in Sacramento a
year ago, helping the Mavericks beat the Kings 120-106 on Wednesday
night to advance in the Play-In Tournament. One year to the day when
Thompson missed all 10 shots in his final game for Golden State in a
play-in loss in Sacramento, Thompson fueled the win with four
3-pointers in Dallas’ 44-point second quarter. That turned the game
into a laugher and kept the Mavericks’ chaotic season alive for at
least one more game. Dallas advanced to play at Memphis on Friday
night for the chance to get into the playoffs as the eighth seed in
the West. The winner of that game will open the playoffs on Sunday at
top-seeded Oklahoma City.

CHICAGO (AP) —
Tyler Herro went from raising eyebrows with a shot he missed to
turning heads one week later with all the baskets he made. Both
times, he did it for Miami in Chicago. Herro had it going, scoring 38
points as the Heat pounded the Bulls 109-90 to advance in the Play-In
Tournament. Herro came through in a big way one week after he made a
questionable decision late in a loss at Chicago. He hit 13 of 19
shots as the Heat knocked the Bulls out of the Play-In Tournament for
the third year in a row. One week earlier, Herro opted to pull up for
a 3 with a chance to make it a one-possession game rather than go for
a layup or dunk. He missed and Chicago won.

MADRID (AP) —
Arsenal has defeated defending champion Real Madrid 2-1 to reach the
Champions League semifinals for the first time since 2009 in a match
where VAR played a key role in two penalty decisions. Arsenal
advanced 5-1 on aggregate after winning 3-0 in London last week,
keeping alive its chances of winning Europe’s top club competition
for the first time. It will face Paris Saint-Germain in the
semifinals. Inter Milan advanced past Bayern Munich on Wednesday and
will meet Barcelona in the semifinals.

Milan (AP) —
Former Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard scored against his old
club to help Inter Milan to a 2-2 draw against the German team and
sending the Nerazzurri through to the Champions League semifinals 4-3
on aggregate. It was Pavard’s first goal for Inter. Harry Kane had
levelled the quarterfinal early in the second half but Inter swiftly
turned the game around with goals from Lautaro Martínez and Pavard.
Eric Dier headed in in the 76th minute to set up a nervy finale.
Inter will face Barcelona in the semifinals. It beat the same
opponent in the final four in 2010 on its way to winning the
Champions League and securing the treble. It is in contention to
repeat that feat this season.

Nix has already turned 25. Michael Penix Jr. will get there in May.
Both quarterbacks were first-round picks last year. They were among
56 players age 24 or older drafted in 2024. That number was up from

more older prospects drafted in recent years because the COVID-19
pandemic gave players an option to stay in school an extra year. Even

Inter will face Barcelona in the semifinals. It beat the same

The Barton Community College men's golf team placed 4th overall Tuesday at the Jayhawk Conference Championship held the last two days at Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan.

The Cougars are back on the course next Monday in the two-day Region 6 Championship held at Newton's Sand Creek Station Golf Course.

Barton opened and finished the three-round tournament strong, posting a morning 316 on Monday with a 325 afternoon card followed by its best 25-over 313 in Tuesday's final round to accumulate a 90-over 954 result.

Two Cougars finished in the Top-20 of the 38-man squad as Kaleb Lambert and Martin Chevallier each chalked up six birdies from the three-rounds finishing in the 19th position at 20-over 236. Lambert's first day of action carded 79 and 84 rounds before posting the field's 5th best final round score of 1-over par 73 to move up six spots. Chevallier's placing took a different path after posting consistent 77-78 Monday card but dropped five spots on Tuesday with a closing 9-over 81.

Two strokes behind in 22nd was Ted Gemzell at 22-over 238, posting twin 81 rounds before draining four of his team leading seven birdies during the final round to post a 4-over 75 in moving up two spots.

Opening with a 79, Wintakorn Suwanmuang followed with near identical 82 and 83 cards to place 27th overall at 28-over 244.

Talon Reynolds was next in 29th place at 34-over 250 on a trio of 80 cards, 85 and 84 on the backend of his three rounds with an 81 from Monday's afternoon round in playing thirteen of the holes even par.

Two strokes in 30th place at 36-over 252, Mason Moore tied for the team leading seven birdies, carding three of those in each of his first and last rounds leading to an 84 and a final round of 78 on either side of Monday afternoon's 90 card.

Matteu Cauvin-Piacentini played through an injury in his first round but had to withdraw from competition leaving the Cougars scoring with just four team members.

Lady Panther soccer plays to a draw with Salina Central

For the second time in two weeks, the No. 19 Barton Community College baseball team took down No. 3 ranked Cowley College behind a 10-0 eight-inning run rule victory on Tuesday afternoon at Lawson-Biggs Field.

The Cougars rode Braden Hauschel's six-plus inning shutout performance on the mound while Hunter Alvord's two-out fourth inning grand slam put Barton up 8-0 followed with a run in the final two frames to complete the run rule win.

Completing the two-game sweep in the home and away series, the Cougars win their fifth straight in the series improving to 32-8 on the season while the loss snaps the Tigers nine-game winning streak falling to 31-8 overall.

Winners of 14-straight, Barton returns to Jayhawk West play on Thursday afternoon hosting the opening two-games of the four-game weekend series with the Beavers of Pratt Community College. First pitch for the series opening doubleheader is slated for 1:00 p.m. from Lawson-Biggs Field with the final two games coming Saturday at the newly resurfaced Stanion Baseball Field.

Hauschel worked the opening 6.1-innings and was part of his second shutout of the season. The freshman starter tossed a trio of clean 1-2-3 innings while dealing with runners in scoring position twice. Hauschel's first threat came in the first following a one-out walk and two-out single before facing back-to-back one-out singles in the fourth. Hauschel's day concluded succeeding back-to-back one out walks in the seventh.

Hauschel allowed four hits over his 6.1-innings. He struck out four and walked three to improve to 4-1 on the season and extend his consecutive scoreless streak to 13.1-innings.

Escaping the two-on and one-out jam in the seventh, Eli Lang operated around another threat in the top of the eighth inducing a two-out bases loaded fielder's choice in preserving the shutout. Lang finished the final 1.2-innings in relief permitting two hits and a walk.

Barton started giving Hauschel some offensive support in the second inning with four runs. John Connors leadoff walk opened the scoring crossing on a Tiger error. A trio of singles over the next four batters added to the advantage with Barrett Donaldson's RBI single and Tate Blasi's 2 RBI two-out single increasing the advantage to 4-0.

Production from the bottom of the lineup organized Barton's four run two-out rally. Donaldson's second single of the game initiated the two-out rally with Kyle Graves' single ensuing flipping the lineup to the top of the order and Blasi loading them up reaching on a fielder's choice.

Facing his former team and ahead in the count 3-1, Alvord produced his lone hit of the day launching a no-doubt grand slam to the left field hill for his team leading 10th home run of the year making it 8-0.

Connors leadoff blast in the seventh for his fourth home run of the year and an eighth inning walk-off bases loaded wild pitch adding the final touching's in the 10-0 victory.

NEW YORK (AP) —&nbsp;Jasson Domínguez&nbsp;went 3 for 3 with a three-run double that put the New York Yankees ahead in the sixth inning of a 4-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.

Max Fried (3-0) struck out seven in 6 2/3 innings and the Yankees erased a 2-0 deficit with a four-run sixth aided by three straight two-out walks. New York will go for a three-game sweep Wednesday in a rematch of an AL Division Series won by the Yankees over the Royals in four games last October.

MJ Melendez homered and Bobby Witt Jr. hit an RBI double off the right-center fence in the third for the Royals, who lost for the fourth time in five games and fell to 2-6 on the road. They have dropped 19 of their past 20 completed series against the Yankees since May 2015, including the playoffs.

Luke Weaver retired Maikel Garcia with two runners on to end the seventh and set down all four batters he faced. Devin Williams worked a perfect ninth for his third save.

Michael Wacha (0-3) was working on a four-hit shutout when he walked Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Anthony Volpe to load the bases in the sixth. Angel Zerpa entered and, struggling to hear his PitchCom device, walked Austin Wells on four pitches to force in a run.

Mookie Betts and his Los Angeles Dodgers teammates were joined by the
Colorado Rockies in visiting Jackie Robinson's statue at Dodger
Stadium on the 78th anniversary of the infielder breaking baseball's
color barrier. Robinson was the first Black player of the modern era
when he signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. They were joined by
Basketball Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who grew up in New York
and later starred at UCLA, Robinson's alma mater. Robinson's legacy
was celebrated around baseball, with every player, manager and coach
wearing his No. 42 in tribute. His 102-year-old widow, Rachel,
appeared at her late husband's museum in Brooklyn, New York.

Cole Anthony came off the Magic bench with 26 points and six assists
to lead the Orlando Magic to a 120-95 win over the Atlanta Hawks on
Tuesday night in the first game of the Play-In Tournament. Paolo
Banchero had 17 points, nine rebounds and seven assists for the
Magic, and Wendell Carter Jr. added 19 points and seven rebounds.
Anthony Black also came off the bench and scored 16 points on 6-of-7

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.
(AP) — The Miami Dolphins are pursuing trade options for All-Pro
cornerback Jalen Ramsey, general manager Chris Grier confirmed on
Tuesday. Ramsey did not ask for a trade, and he didn’t ask for more
money, Grier clarified, but after weeks of conversations with
Ramsey’s representation, both sides agreed it would be best to
potentially move on. Grier declined to go into detail about the
contents of those discussions and did not give a clear reason for

Politics is bowing to Canada’s most popular sport as the
French-language leaders’ debate was abruptly rescheduled to
minimize a conflict with a Montreal Canadiens hockey game. Two
federal party leaders had called for the Wednesday evening debate to
be moved, out of concern that the game could siphon off potential
viewers. Five party leaders will debate each other twice this week,
once in French and once in English, ahead of a national election set
for April 28. The televised debate will now take place two hours
earlier than planned, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET in Montreal. The NHL
team will face off against the Carolina Hurricanes at 7 p.m. ET in a
game that could clinch them a spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Mookie Betts and his Los Angeles Dodgers teammates were joined by the

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State guard Serena Sundell was selected with the 26th overall selection and the first pick of the third round of the 2025 WNBA Draft by the Seattle Storm on Monday night at the WNBA's annual draft event.

Sundell becomes the ninth player in school history to be selected during the WNBA Draft. Sundell  is the 12th player overall to become a part of the league and first since Breanna Lewis in the 2018 season.

Seattle, coached by Noelle Quinn, finished fifth in the WNBA in 2024 with a regular season record of 25-15 and lost in the first round of the 2024 WNBA playoffs. Sundell will play professionally in the same city as her brother, Jalen, who is an offensive lineman with the NFL's Seattle Seahawks.

Sundell, a 2025 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Associated Press (AP) All-America honorable mention selection, led the nation with a career-high and school record for total assists (262) and paced the nation and led the Big 12 with a career-high for assists per game (7.28 apg) and was second in the Big 12 for assist-turnover ratio (2.52). She recorded a league-best nine games with 10 or more assists.

The product of Maryville, Missouri, was second on the team in scoring average with 14.1 points per game and led the Wildcats with 508 points, which was the second-highest total of her career on a .501 field goal percentage. Sundell was the only player in the nation this season and the third player since 1993-94 to register a season with 500 or more points, 250 or more assists and shoot 50.0 percent or better from the field.

She registered a career-high 31 blocked shots (0.86 bpg) and pulled in 159 rebounds (4.4 rpg), which was the second-highest rebound total in her career.

Sundell, a 2025 All-Big 12 First Team, registered a career-high eight double-doubles this season. She was the first Big 12 player since the 2022-23 season and the fifth player in program history to register a triple-double with 26 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds against USC Upstate on Dec. 5, 2024.

With her point (508) and assist (262) totals this season, Sundell was the first player in Big 12 history to record four seasons with 350 or more points and 150 or more assists. She joined former Wildcat Kayla Goth as the only two players in program history with 500 or more points and 200 or more assists in a season.

In her career, Sundell holds the school records for career starts (139) and games played (139). She holds the school record and ranks fourth in Big 12 history for career assists with 811 and is second in program history for career assists per game (5.83 apg). She ranks sixth on the K-State career scoring list with 1,771 points. She ranks tied for seventh in school history for career blocks (104).

She was the first player in school history and the 14th in NCAA Division I women's basketball history with 1,700 or more career points and 800 or more career assists.

K-State concluded the 2024-25 season ranked 13th in the Associated Press poll and 15th in the USA Today Coaches poll and were ranked in both polls for the entirety of the season. The Wildcats achieved the 19th NCAA Tournament bid and the fourth Sweet 16 appearance in program history. K-State registered the second-most wins in a season in school history with 28 and tied for the second-most wins in a two-season span (54).

As a team, the Wildcats established new single-season records for points (2,842), assists (763) and blocks (206). K-State led the Big 12 in scoring offense, scoring margin, field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage, field goal percentage defense, assists per game and assist-turnover ratio.

Lady Panther soccer blanks Independent

The Barton Community College cheer and dance teams wrapped up its national competition this past week at the 2025 NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships held April 10-12 in Daytona Beach, Florida.

All three of Barton's entries competed in the Junior College Division, the Dance squad's Pom group improving from its preliminary round score in placing 3rd overall bringing a trophy back to Great Bend.

The Cougars other two performances placed 7th, the Cheer's Intermediate All-Girl squad along with Dance's Hip Hop group.

Barton No. 19 in latest NJCAA Baseball Poll

Attorneys working on the $2.8 billion legal settlement designed to reshape college sports filed a brief Monday night that did not include changes a judge suggested regarding team roster limits, saying such a late change to that rule would create havoc.

The plan on the table, the attorneys said, “is a vast improvement over the status quo” and they offered only a few tweaks to the sprawling deal announced last year that will clear the way for schools to begin sharing millions in revenue with their athletes and pay hundreds of millions more to former and current athletes who said they were illegally prevented from earning money.

The filing came in response to U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken’s suggestion last week that the terms of the roster limit rules be adjusted “to grandfather in a group of rostered people” set to lose their spots on teams if the caps come into play.

The defendants — the NCAA and the nation’s five largest conferences — said such a move would “cause significant disruption.” They said countless roster moves have already been made in anticipation of the settlement going into effect on July 1.

“These decisions, in turn, cascaded into tens of thousands of decisions by individual student-athletes,” the attorneys said. “Many kept their pre-existing roster spots (and may now receive scholarships), because the roster limits were designed to capture the average number of participants across a season and thereby minimize disruptions from the transition. Some transferred to new schools to seek roster spots and enhanced opportunities for athletic competition. ... while implementing a ‘grandfather’ provision might benefit some athletes, it would, at the same time, upset the settled expectations, enrollment decisions and other preparations of numerous other student-athletes and member institutions.”

Wilken has already granted preliminary approval of the settlement. In addition to asking for Monday’s adjustments from attorneys on both sides of the case, Wilken has asked for objectors to respond to the new brief on Tuesday.

Attorneys expect her final decision on the settlement to come in a matter of weeks, with the July 1 deadline bearing down.

In what was supposed to be the final hearing a week ago, more than a dozen athletes and their lawyers outlines their objections to the terms.

Of all the arguments over the deal, which sets a template for schools to pay athletes directly for use of their name, image and likeness and outlines $2.78 billion in back pay to athletes who played before NIL, those about roster limits appeared to make the biggest impact on Wilken.

Under current rules, schools must adhere to a scholarship limit in each sport, but there are no roster limits. There are spots for walk-ons and partial scholarship recipients, all of whom can later qualify for aid.

The new rules propose roster limits and make everyone eligible for scholarships. It could increase the total amount of aid available but is expected to cost athletes thousands of roster spots across the country as schools look to cut expenses to absorb higher costs.

One example: Some women’s swim teams currently divide 14 scholarships among 40 or more athletes. Under the new rules, most rosters would be capped at 30, but all those players could receive full rides.

Wilken said figuring out a way to delay implementation wouldn’t be that expensive and “would save a lot of good will and angst and unhappiness from a lot of students and their parents, so why not just do it?”

In their filing, attorneys said it would be too “unworkable,” with athletes perhaps seeking to start over after making a change: “And every additional ‘round’ of re-dos permitted would create a new set of potentially affected student-athletes who might want re-dos themselves; with thousands if not more individual decisions having been made on the understanding the roster limits would likely go in effect in less than three months.”

The brief also argued that one of the most overlooked parts of the roster limits is how much more aid would go to athletes.

“Indeed, while it is unfortunate that a small number of athletes may ultimately have lost roster spots as a result of the settlement, the settlement afforded them an opportunity to compete for scholarships (or larger scholarships) and additional compensation and benefits that were not previously available,” they attorneys wrote.

The brief sought to address other concerns of the judge:

— By agreeing to clarify that future Division I athletes -- they are covered under the 10-year term of the settlement even if they are not yet in college -- will have a chance to object to the deal and not release any claims until they have a chance to be heard or until their 60-day objection window ends. The defendants are hoping to avoid an endless series of court challenges over the same issues of athlete compensation.

“College sports would be entirely unmanageable if individual future college athletes (or groups of future athletes) pursued different types of injunctive relief year over year over year,” the filing said. The settlement “works only if it is durable and applicable to all current and future class members.”

— By addressing what some objectors said were glitches in the system athletes use to calculate damages claims and asking the judge to OK a claims extension to May 16. A week ago, LSU gymnast and influencer Olivia Dunne told Wilken that the settlement hardly acknowledges her true value and potential earning power; the Monday filing said she would be among those receiving an updated allocation.

In addition to asking for Monday’s adjustments from attorneys on both sides of the case, Wilken has asked for objectors to respond to the new brief on Tuesday.Attorneys expect her final decision on the settlement to come in a matter of weeks, with the July 1 deadline bearing down.In what was supposed to be the final hearing a week ago, more than a dozen athletes and their lawyers outlines their objections to the terms.Of all the arguments over the deal, which sets a template for schools to pay athletes directly for use of their name, image and likeness and outlines $2.78 billion in back pay to athletes who played before NIL, those about roster limits appeared to make the biggest impact on Wilken.Under current rules, schools must adhere to a scholarship limit in each sport, but there are no roster limits. There are spots for walk-ons and partial scholarship recipients, all of whom can later qualify for aid.The new rules propose roster limits and make everyone eligible for scholarships. It could increase the total amount of aid available but is expected to cost athletes thousands of roster spots across the country as schools look to cut expenses to absorb higher costs.One example: Some women’s swim teams currently divide 14 scholarships among 40 or more athletes. Under the new rules, most rosters would be capped at 30, but all those players could receive full rides.Wilken said figuring out a way to delay implementation wouldn’t be that expensive and “would save a lot of good will and angst and unhappiness from a lot of students and their parents, so why not just do it?”In their filing, attorneys said it would be too “unworkable,” with athletes perhaps seeking to start over after making a change: “And every additional ‘round’ of re-dos permitted would create a new set of potentially affected student-athletes who might want re-dos themselves; with thousands if not more individual decisions having been made on the understanding the roster limits would likely go in effect in less than three months.”The brief also argued that one of the most overlooked parts of the roster limits is how much more aid would go to athletes.“Indeed, while it is unfortunate that a small number of athletes may ultimately have lost roster spots as a result of the settlement, the settlement afforded them an opportunity to compete for scholarships (or larger scholarships) and additional compensation and benefits that were not previously available,” they attorneys wrote.The brief sought to address other concerns of the judge:— By agreeing to clarify that future Division I athletes -- they are covered under the 10-year term of the settlement even if they are not yet in college -- will have a chance to object to the deal and not release any claims until they have a chance to be heard or until their 60-day objection window ends. The defendants are hoping to avoid an endless series of court challenges over the same issues of athlete compensation.“College sports would be entirely unmanageable if individual future college athletes (or groups of future athletes) pursued different types of injunctive relief year over year over year,” the filing said. The settlement “works only if it is durable and applicable to all current and future class members.”— By addressing what some objectors said were glitches in the system athletes use to calculate damages claims and asking the judge to OK a claims extension to May 16. A week ago, LSU gymnast and influencer Olivia Dunne told Wilken that the settlement hardly acknowledges her true value and potential earning power; the Monday filing said she would be among those receiving an updated allocation.

Roster limit changes not offered in latest filing on $2.8 billion NCAA lawsuit settlement

The Barton Community College softball team stepped out of conference play Monday hosting Southeast Community College resulting in a split of results.

The Cougars jumped all over Southeast in the opener by scoring five in their first at-bat followed by another four tallies in the second to roll 11-2 in a five-inning shortened affair.

Game two was a different story as it took Barton six innings to get cranking, producing a five-run sixth before plating one but leaving the tying run at second in the bottom of the seventh as Southeast held on for the 8-7 victory.

The results leave Barton at 27-11 on the season with Southeast moving to 21-15.

Barton returns to conference action on Wednesday hosting Pratt Community College in a 1:00 p.m. first pitch followed by a Friday trip to Goodland taking on Fort Hays Tech Northwest.

Four Cougars collected multiple hits in the opener led by Peyton McCormick going 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs, three coming in the first frame on a 3-run fence clearer for her 10th of the season highlighting the five-run inning.

Alicia Goseland, who worked a scoreless fifth frame of the opener, closed out the nightcap's final three innings in allowing just one run to give the Cougars a chance at the comeback.Laney Wood set the table at the top of the lineup with three doubles during her 3-of-5 twinbill with Alvord and Bartlett joining McCormick with three hits each across the pair of contests.Ava Fink's lone hit was timely for the Cougars in the nightcap's sixth inning by delivering a 2-out, bases loaded 2-RBI double sparking the late comeback and five-run frame.
