KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Freddy Fermin hit a winning single in the 11th and the Kansas City Royals rebounded from a blown two-run, ninth-inning lead to beat Colorado 4-3 on Tuesday night and drop the Rockies to 4-18.

Daniel Lynch IV (3-0) pitched a hitless inning as part of a five-hitter, sending Colorado to its ninth loss in 10 games. The Rockies are 1-12 on the road.

Jacob Stallings put Colorado ahead 3-2 with three-run double after Carlos Estévez walked the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth.

Salvador Perez singled off Seth Halvorsen starting the bottom half, advanced on Maikel Garcia’s double and scored on Michael Massey’s sacrifice fly.

With automatic runner Mark Canha on second starting the 11th, Tyler Kinley (0-1) intentionally walked Bobby Witt Jr., who extended his hitting streak to 14 games with an eighth-inning single. Kinley threw a wild pitch and intentionally walked Vinnie Pasquantino, and Fermin lined a single to center.

Drew Waters homered in the sixth off Ryan Feltner and Kyle Isbel bunted for an RBI single in the eighth that drove in Waters, who slid home ahead of the glove flip from first baseman Michael Toglia.

With runners on second and third in the 10th, Mickey Moniak was picked off third base by Fermin, the Kansas City catcher.

Kansas City has gone 17 games without scoring more than four runs, the longest streak by an AL team since the Royals' 19 straight in 2018. Kansas City has scored four or fewer runs in 22 of 24 games this season.

Rockies RHP Chase Dollander (1-2, 7.36 ERA) and Royals RHP Michael Lorenzen (1-3, 4.57 ERA) start Wednesday night.

Angeles Lakers fought back to even their first-round series with the
Minnesota Timberwolves with a 94-85 victory in Game 2. LeBron James
scored 21 points and Austin Reaves added 16 for the third-seeded
Lakers, who rebounded from their blowout loss in Game 1 by jumping
out to an early 22-point lead and hanging on through a physical

Celtics forward Jayson Tatum has been listed as doubtful with a bone
bruise in his right wrist for Game 2 of Boston’s Eastern Conference
first-round series against the Orlando Magic. Tatum’s designation
was listed on the injury report released Tuesday. He injured the
wrist in the fourth quarter of the Celtics’ 103-86 victory in Game
1. With Boston leading 89-73 with 8:28 remaining, Tatum went up for a
dunk and was hit hard by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope as he tried to

returned to the lineup and was back to his old self quickly for the
Florida Panthers on Tuesday night. Playing for the first time in more

Those two scores were both power-play tallies, the first putting

in a decade, Minnesota’s top line likely will be the reason. They

Former Virginia safety Jonas Sanker took an unconventional path to
the NFL draft. He attended high school in Charlottesville, Virginia,
where he emerged as a star in eight-man football. Sanker’s rapid
ascension from fast-break style prep games to college captain to the
cusp of a pro career sounds more Hollywood than reality but Sanker
has made it this far. He's not alone in this year's draft class.
Several of this year's class have taken atypical paths to get to this
point.

FORT WORTH, Texas
(AP) — TCU and North Carolina will play their 2026 opener in
Ireland. That will come a year after Bill Belichick’s debut as
coach of the Tar Heels comes at home against the Horned Frogs. The
Aer Lingus College Football Classic will be played at Aviva Stadium
in Dublin on Aug. 29, 2026. It will be the first game abroad for both
TCU and North Carolina. Their season opener this year will be on
Sept. 1, which is Labor Day. TCU will be the home team for the game
in Ireland. The two teams were initially scheduled to open the 2026
season in Fort Worth, Texas.

A nine run first inning set the tone for the No. 17 Barton Community College baseball team on Monday evening at Lawson-Biggs Field, as the Cougars finished off their three-game season sweep over the junior varsity squad of McPherson College behind a 21-2 seven inning run rule victory.

Combining to hit four home runs on the afternoon, Ayden Hadley and Cooper Tabor's two-run first-inning home runs highlighted Barton's nine-run first frame with the second of Hunter Alvord's two-dinger performance tying the program's single season home run record of 14 with the final tallies on the run rule victory.

Improving to 37-8 on the season and extending the winning streak to a program best 19-straight, the Cougars will set their sights on the final four-game conference series of the regular season beginning Thursday afternoon at Dodge City Community College. First pitch of the series is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. weather permitting from Cavalier Field with the final two games of the series coming Saturday at Lawson-Biggs Field.

Utilizing 17-players throughout the lineup card, Barton manufactured a run in five of their six at-bats producing 22 hits in 41 at-bats with 12 going for extra bases.

Alvord and Kyle Walker keyed the Barton hit parade as the pair turned in 4-for-6 and 4-for-5 performances respectfully. Alvord supplied two of his four hits with no-doubt fence clearers for his team leading 13th and 14th home runs to go with a double and four RBIs. Walker built his four-pack of hits behind a pair of doubles and RBI.

Hadley and Tabor combined for nine of the Cougars' 21 RBIs.

Hadley's 3-for-3 evening directed the squad with five RBIs, as the sophomore drove in three of the Cougars' nine first frame runs with the initial two-run home run for his ninth of the season and run producing double later in the inning. Tabor furnished the second two-run blast in the first with his second fence clearer of the year to anchor the lower third of the lineup as part of his 2-for-2 four RBI outing.

Hayden Oviatt fashioned two of his three RBIs with one of Barton's three triples while Jaxon Case and Barrett Donaldson added the other two each driving in one.

Making his first collegiate plate appearance in the sixth, Cade Kunz legged out a first pitch double following Hunter Houfek's RBI single in the sixth later trotting home on Alvord's second big fly.

Starting pitcher Eli Lang (3-0) notched the victory behind three no-hit innings, walking one and striking out a trio of Bulldogs.

Utilizing four relievers, Cam Bergstrom operated a scoreless fourth frame with two strikeouts while Drew Florance handled the fifth scattering two hits, two unearned runs and strikeout in his collegiate debut.

Tyler Stuhlsatz and Jack Dilley tossed the final two innings each working clean sheets with a combined five punchouts, Stuhlsatz recording a pair and Dilley striking out the side to end it in the seventh.

Quick strike leads No. 17 Barton Baseball to 19th straight victory

ATLANTA (AP) —
Sean Murphy hit a three-run homer during Atlanta’s five-run eighth
inning, and the Braves beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-6 for their
fourth consecutive victory. Austin Riley hit a two-run homer for
Atlanta, and Michael Harris II added two hits and drove in a run.
Daysbel Hernández got three outs for the win. St. Louis lost its
fifth consecutive game. It dropped to 1-10 on the road. Willson
Contreras connected for a two-run homer for the Cardinals.

Sharon Lokedi broke the Boston Marathon course record, and fellow

Rockies play the Royals looking to stop road skid

It was another split-squad weekend for the Barton track and field program competing this past weekend at the Michael Johnson Invitational and Coyote Challenge.

The majority of the nationally ranked programs headed south to Waco, Texas, posting 14 personal and/or season best efforts, added 9 new national qualifiers, with four performances within the program top ten lists, while a smaller squad of athletes in Salina recorded 6 new best efforts.

Highlighting the accomplishments was Cedricka Williams resetting her discus National Record just over a year from breaking it as a freshman. On Friday, in her second event of the day, Williams' fourth toss broke the record but her last attempt pushed the mark out even further to 59.46m (195-01), 5 ½ feet further than last year's accomplishment to better the four-year level dominated Johnson Invite field by over seven feet.

Earlier in the day, Williams again saved the best for last in the hammer throw with a 15th place 50.04 (164-02) mark in popping on the program all-time best list at No. 10.

On the track, speed standout Keliza Smith added the 200m to her program record book etchings in placing 6th overall by clocking a program 4th best time of 23.21 to trail only Olympians Veronica Campbell Brown and Aleen Bailey, along with now-Arizona State University sprinter Naiya Morgan.

On the men's side, field athlete DeAndre Bristol put his name among the Barton best with an 8th place javelin throw of 60.05m (197-00) to rank 10th all-time.

Other notable Texas performances were first-time event participants, Natasha Fox taking on the 400m and 400m hurdles in posting national qualifying times in each, 55.76 in the 400m and a nation's current third fastest 1:00.74 hurdle time landing just outside the program top ten, while on the men's side Perrion Williams clocked a 10.47 in meeting national qualifying time.

In Salina at the Coyote Classic, personal best efforts were achieved by Kymia Bridgett's winning triple jump (11.72m, 38-05.50), Kamya Gould in the 200m (25.98), Lakota Schultz shaving off sixteen seconds for a new 1500m best (5:22.59), and Makiya Mosley in the long jump (5.03m, 16-06.00). On the men's side, Brandon Pemberton finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 100m (10.84) and 200m (21.60), Keandro Gordon's new best in the 800m (1:55.32), and Justin Barker marking a new furthest hammer throw (42.72m, 140-02).

Barring an addition to the schedule, Barton will now prepare for the outdoor post-season with the KJCCC/Region 6 Championships taking place May 1-3 in Coffeyville, followed by the National Championships held May 15-17 in Hutchinson.

Barton Track and Field posts four program record impacts at Michael Johnson Invitational

Ethan Minaker of the Barton Community College baseball team has been named the week eleven KJCCC West Division Pitcher of the Week.

Last Saturday, Minaker turned in his best performance of the season helping Barton clinch its series sweep of Garden City. The sophomore's career best day resulted in tossing his first collegiate complete game shutout on a new high eight strikeouts, scattering just six hits and a pair of walks in picking up his second victory in his last three starts on the mound.

The weekly award is the second straight and fourth on the season for the Cougar pitching staff, along with the fifth overall for the squad following Anthony Treto's second of the year and catcher Ayden Hadley's nod last week.

Treto and Hadley have additionally earned the national distinction, Treto in week two while Hadley picked up last week's honor. Day one starter along with Treto, Antonio Mendez earned the Cougars' other KJCCC honor in week six.

Most recently yesterday in Pratt, Minaker picked up his second complete game victory on just 81 pitches by scattering seven hits, one walk, and seven punchouts improving to 4-2 on the year.

The performance closed out Barton's week of knocking off 3rd ranked Cowley in a non-conference contest and the sweep over Pratt extending the Cougars' unbeaten streak to 18 straight games improving to 24-4 in league and 36-8 on the season.

DETROIT (AP) — Bobby Witt Jr. hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly in the 10th inning, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Detroit Tigers 4-3 Sunday to stop a six-game losing streak.

With the score 3-3, Jonathan India's groundout off Tyler Holton (1-2) advanced automatic runner Drew Waters to third, and Witt hit a 280-foot fly to left. Waters scored headfirst ahead of Riley Greene's throw.

Carlos Estévez (1-0) intentionally walked Greene to put runners on the corners with two outs in the bottom half, then retired Dillon Dingler on a popup.

Kansas City went 2-8 on its trip and is 9-14. Detroit had won three straight.

Detroit left fielder Kerry Carpenter left the game after the eighth inning because of right hamstring soreness.

There were as many as 19 hits in a game with no extra-base hits for the first time since St. Louis beat the New York Mets on Sept. 4, 2012.

Tigers ace Tarik Skubal allowed two runs and seven hits in five innings, while Royals starter Michael Wacha gave up two runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 inning

Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees were angry over the home run
that wasn’t. Judge drove a changeup from Tampa Bay’s Eric Orze

in a video review. Judge and manager Aaron Boone were convinced it
should have been Judge’s eighth home run of the season. Boone was
ejected after plate umpire Adam Beck called a third strike on the

Donovan Mitchell scored 30 points, Ty Jerome had 16 of his 28 points
in the fourth quarter and the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Miami Heat

first-round playoff series. It was the seventh straight series where
Mitchell has scored at least 30 points in Game 1, tying Michael
Jordan, who had two streaks of seven games. Bam Adebayo had 24 points

Derrick White scored 30 points, Jayson Tatum had 17 points and
finished the game after a scary late fall, and the Boston Celtics
rallied in the second half to beat the Orlando Magic 103-86 in Game 1

Jaylen Brown played 31 minutes and had 16 points on 6 of 14 shooting

LOS ANGELES (AP) —
Nico Iamaleava says he’s heading to UCLA, a week after Tennessee
announced the quarterback who helped the Volunteers reach last
season’s College Football Playoff was no longer with the program.
Iamaleava issued an Instagram post of himself in a UCLA uniform
Sunday. Tennessee coach Josh Heupel had indicated during the
Volunteers’ spring game on April 12 that Iamaleava wouldn’t be
part of the team anymore. Heupel declined to get into details about
any discussions with Iamaleava and his representatives. Various
reports said Iamaleava was seeking a big raise in his name, image and
likeness compensation after helping Tennessee to its first playoff
berth.

CESKE BUDEJOVICE,
Czech Republic (AP) — Tessa Janecke scored the winner as the United
States prevailed in overtime against defending champion Canada 4-3 to
win the women’s ice hockey world championship. Janecke struck with
2:54 left in overtime for the Americans to claim their 11th title at
the worlds. Abbey Murphy and Taylor Heise scored a goal and had an
assist, and Caroline Harvey also scored for the U.S. in the final. In
a classic encounter, Sarah Fillier tied the game for Canada at 3-3
with 5:48 remaining, forcing overtime. Canada still leads the world
tournament with 13 gold medals. The cross-border rivals have met in

(AP) — Michigan’s Fred Richard and Paul Juda finished first and
second in the all-around and the Wolverines edged them past five-time
defending champion Stanford to win their first NCAA men’s
gymnastics title since 2014. Juda, the individual champion on the
parallel bars with a score of 14.200 and Michigan’s final
competitor of the day, scored a 13.966 on the vault to clinch the
program’s seventh national title. The Wolverines finished second,
5.635 points behind Stanford, at the 2024 championships. Oklahoma
finished third with 327.891, ahead of Nebraska (326.222), Penn State
(317.258) and Illinois (316.293). Penn State and Oklahoma each hold a
record 12 national titles. Stanford’s Asher Hong took home

(AP) — Oklahoma’s redemption arc is complete. The Sooners have
returned to the top at the NCAA women’s gymnastics championships,
cruising to their seventh national title a year after a stunning

the finals was four-tenths better than runner-up UCLA. The Bruins and
three-time Olympic medalist Jordan Chiles capped a resurgent season

Monday Sports Headlines and Scores presented by Barton Community College

DETROIT (AP) — Spencer Torkelson hit a tiebreaking, three-run homer in the fifth inning off Seth Lugo, and the Detroit Tigers extended the Kansas City Royals' losing streak to six with a 3-1 win Saturday.

Detroit won the first three games of the four-game series and is 8-1 at Comerica Park, its best home start since nine straight wins to begin 1993.

Casey Mize (3-1) gave up one run and four hits in seven innings. He has allowed one run or none in three of four starts. Will Vest pitched the ninth for his first save this season, finishing a six-hitter.

Torkelson hit his seventh home run this season, giving him 21 RBIs, driving a 1-2 splitter into the Tigers bullpen in left-center.

Lugo (1-3) gave up five hits in 6 2/3 innings. He had tied his career high by allowing four homers in his previous start, at Yankee Stadium.

Kansas City is 1-8 on a 10-game trip that started in Cleveland and New York. The Royals are 8-14 and have gone 15 straight games without scoring more than four runs. They are 4 for 32 with runners in scoring position in the series.

Freddy Fermin hit a solo homer in the seventh and reached on an infield single with two outs in the ninth. Kyle Isbel popped out on the next pitch.

Vinnie Pasquantino lined out to second baseman Colt Keith, who threw wildly to second to try to double up India for an inning-ending double play in the eighth. The ball went into foul territory down the left-field line, but India was fooled by shortstop Trey Sweeney's fake tag and didn't try to advance.

Daniel Lynch IV retired Carpenter on a popup ending the seventh and has pitched 30 consecutive scoreless innings over 20 appearances dating to Aug. 26, the longest active streak in the majors.

Tigers win 3-1 and send Royals to 6th straight loss

The No. 19 Barton Community College baseball team completed its third straight four game conference sweep on Friday afternoon over Pratt Community College at Stanion Field. 

The Cougars rallied with the tying run in the seventh forcing extra innings with Tate Blasi's two-run blast with one-out in the eighth providing the difference maker in the 4-2 series clinching victory. In the nightcap, Barton starting pitcher Ethan Minaker twirled his second straight complete game while Hunter Alvord and Kyle Graves drove in three runs each helping complete the sweep of the Beavers 7-2.

Winners of 18-straight, Barton grasps a two-game cushion in the conference standings at 24-4 following No. 23 Cloud County's 7-6 loss at Butler while improving to 35-8 on the season. Pratt meanwhile drops their fifth straight dipping to 5-19 in league play and 12-34 overall.

Next up for the Cougars is Monday's 5:00 p.m. home contest with the junior varsity squad of McPherson College before heading back out on the road Thursday to begin the final conference series of the season at Dodge City Community College.

Keying Barton's offense on the afternoon was Alvord's 3-for-7 performance led behind his team leading 12th home run, a double and four-RBIs.

Blasi turned in the other lone multi-hit afternoon for the Cougars finishing 2-for-7 with the Game 1 home run in extras and two-RBIs, as Barton's offense was limited to just 11 runs on 10 hits after piling up 37 runs on 27 hits just 24-hours prior at Lawson-Biggs Field.

The Cougars quickly jetted out to a 1-0 lead just three batters in on Ayden Hadley's double ensuing Alvord's one-out single.

Maintaining the 1-0 lead through the opening four-innings, the Cougars quickly found themselves down on the scoreboard at 2-1 just three batters into the bottom of the fifth succeeding three straight Beaver hits.

Unable to generate the tying run with runners stranded at the corners to end the sixth, Graves leadoff walk to open the seventh ignited the rally attempt. Cesar Gomez sacrifice bunt attempt and wild pitch moved Graves to third creating Alvord's game tying sacrifice-fly.

Hayden Oviatt's one-out pitch hit in the eighth put the go-ahead run-on base with Blasi's ensuing souvenir pushing the Cougars in front for good behind his seventh home run of the season.

Entering in the sixth, Preston Golden (1-0) was sensational out of the bullpen working three perfect frames in notching his first victory of the season. The sophomore reliever needed just 31 pitches for his nine-outs with four coming on strikeouts for a new career high.  

Starting hurler, Owen Pote earned a no-decision in the effort, as the freshman cruised with four shutout innings before yielding three of his four hits in the fifth leading to the pair of runs. Pote concluded the day with 62 pitches thrown and fanning four Beavers. 

Scoring would come quickly with each team producing a pair of runs in the first innings.

Alvord's first of two hits in the nightcap gifted Barton an early edge just two batters in, blasting his team leading 12th home run of the season to straight away center field. The lead would increase to 2-0 as Hadley's walk came across on Pratt's loan error of the game extending the inning allowing Wyatt Yetter to reach safely.

Following a two-out two-run single in Pratt's first at-bat, the Cougars stormed back with their own two-out rally in the top of the second as Gomez and Tyler Janssen's walks sparked the rally both coming around on Alvord's double pushing Barton back in front for good at 4-2.

Held in check over the next two innings, the Cougars added the final insurance runs with another two-out rally in the top of the fifth. Hadley's leadoff walk followed with back-to-back Kyle Walker and Blasi singles loaded the bases for Graves bases clearing triple to center field increasing the final margin to 7-2. 

Minaker (4-2) the reigning Jayhawk West Pitcher of the Week directed his second straight complete game on 81-pitches. The sophomore south paw scattered seven hits, two runs with one walk and six strikeouts in the winning effort.

Detroit's Riley Greene smoked a 109.1 mph grounder in the seventh inning that caromed off Erceg's foot towards Kansas City first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino. Greene beat Pasquantino to the bag for a single.

The 29-year-old Erceg stayed on the ground for a few minutes and then limped off the field with the help of an athletic trainer and manager Matt Quatraro. The Royals told reporters that the injury was a foot contusion.

Erceg had thrown 6 2/3 scoreless innings over eight outings this season before Friday.

Erceg's injury was part of another frustrating night for the Royals, who have dropped five straight.
