
The Great Bend Lady Panther Soccer team closed out the regular season
Thursday with a road win at Junction City, beating the host Blue Jays
3-1.


Great Bend closes the season with two straight victories and wins in
three of their last four matches. The Lady Panthers are now 5-11.
Junction City ends their regular season with a record of 5-10-1.


The Lady Panthers now get ready for regionals next week. Brackets
will be released this weekend.

Great Bend closes season strong with 3-1 win at Junction City

The Great Bend Lady Panther track and field team won their second straight Western Athletic Conference Championship Thursday in Dodge City, while the Panther Boys took 4th.

Great Bend scored 140 points to win the girls crown to finish comfortably ahead of second place Hays who scored 73. The Lady Panthers won 11-events leading the way for head coach Lyles Lashley to be named WAC Girls Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

For the Boys, Kaiden Esfeld won the 800 and took second in both the 3200 and 1600 to be named WAC runner of the year for the second straight season.

The Panthers compete next at the 5A Regional meet next Friday, May 20 in Emporia.

Lady Panthers win WAC crown for 2nd straight year

After watching their 17-year reign as Western Athletic Conference Champions end last year, the Great Bend Lady Panther swim team started a new streak Thursday by winning the WAC championship at Barton Community College.

Despite winning only two events, the Panthers used their depth to outscore Garden City 383-369.

Emily Hall won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:07.37 while the 200 freestyle relay team (Emily Hall, Kameryn Johns, Ellyson Somers, Josephine Mazouch) won gold with a time of 1:50.3.

Great Bend will now prepare for the state meet in Lenexa May 20-21.

Great Bend takes WAC girls swimming crown

The 12th ranked Barton Community College women's golf team wrapped up the 2022 season with a 12th place finish at the NJCAA Division I Championships in Sanford, Florida.

The Cougars posted a 63-over 351 in the final round at the at Mayfair Country Club, slipping from the eleventh spot in being passed over by Ranger College's solid final two rounds to better Barton by four strokes on the final team leaderboard.

Pawinee Sukasem put together her fourth straight consistent round of Nationals play to lead the Cougars, saving her best for last in leading the Cougars' final round score posting a 13-over 85 including her second straight birdie on the par four 3rd hole.

A stroke behind on Thursday with a 14-over 86, Mathanee Pandee also birdied the 3rd hole for her sixth red number on the card leading to 31st final position on the leaderboard at 45-over 333.

Pornnapa Inmee became the third Cougar to birdie the No. 3 in the final round, posting an 18-over 90 round to finish in 56th overall at 62-over 350.

Aside from an opening round 97, Matilyn Newman continued to come up big for the Cougars recording her third straight solid round of 18-over 90 to help the Cougars. Moving up four more spots on the leaderboard, Newman landed in 63rd place compiling a 74-over 362.

Paulina Villavicencio book ended her national trip with her two best rounds, wrapping up the final round with a 20-over 92. Battling through sickness all week, Villavicencio finished in 76th place at 85-over 373.

Barton women finish 12th at NJCAA Women's Golf Championships

The National Football League announced the regular season schedule for the 2022 season on Thursday. The Chiefs are currently slated to play in five primetime contests, including three nationally televised games at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. This year's regular season schedule features nine games vs. eight playoff teams from 2021. The combined record of Kansas City's 2022 home and away opponents from last year is 154-135-0 (.533).

The Chiefs will kick off their quest for a seventh-consecutive AFC West title on the road against Patrick Mahomes' former college coach Kliff Kingsbury and the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, Sept. 11. Kansas City then returns home to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium to face the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 15, the inaugural installment of Thursday Night Football exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. Since Andy Reid's arrival in 2013, the Chiefs own a 41-13 (.759) record against AFC West opponents.

After facing the Indianapolis Colts on the road Sept. 25, the Chiefs have back-to-back primetime contests, the first a rematch of Super Bowl LV when they face the Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium on NBC's Sunday Night Football on Oct. 2. KC then returns home to take on the Las Vegas Raiders on ESPN's Monday Night Football on Oct. 10. Since 2013, the Chiefs hold a 15-3 (.833) record against the Raiders. On Oct. 16, the Chiefs take on the Buffalo Bills at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium at 3:25 p.m., a rematch of last year's AFC Divisional showdown in which the quarterbacks for both teams combined for 707 passing yards and seven touchdowns in an overtime thriller.

On Oct. 23, the Chiefs hit the road again, this time to take on the San Francisco 49ers on FOX. It will be the first regular season meeting between the two clubs since Super Bowl LIV. Following the team's Bye Week, KC will host the Tennessee Titans on Sunday Night Football on Nov. 6, then continue in the AFC South by hosting former Chiefs Offensive Coordinator Doug Pederson and the Jacksonville Jaguars on Nov. 13. After a trip to Los Angeles to face the Chargers on Nov. 20, KC comes home to host the defending Super Bowl Champion Los Angeles Rams on Nov. 27.

2022 regular season schedule finalized; five primetime contests


The Barton Community College baseball team powered for nine runs in
the bottom of the sixth Thursday afternoon earning an 18-8 run-rule
sweep over Labette Community College in the opening round of the
Plains District Region VI Tournament.


Advancing to the Region's final eight, the Cougars improve to 41-16
overall while the Cardinals have their season conclude at 17-32
overall. Seeded second, Barton will play the 2:00 p.m. Tuesday game
at Kansas State University's Tointon Family Stadium against 10th
seeded Hutchinson Community College after the Blue Dragons completed
a two game sweep over seventh seeded Fort Scott Community College.


Receiving balanced production throughout the lineup highlighted by
all nine Cougars recording a hit and RBI, Dryden Howse steered the
Barton bats with a 3-for-5 day at the plate driving in a team high
four RBIs while Ricardo Sanchez, Henry Hayman, Connor Allen, Jace
Stewart and Joel Nieves knocking in a pair each.


Ian Lanik tossed his way to his fifth victory of the season working
4.1-innings out of the bullpen allowing two earned runs, scattering
eighth hits, walking two and striking out three improving his record
to 5-2 on the year. 



Starter Owen Reynolds lasted just 1.2-innings surrendering five hits,
five runs and issuing a pair of walks earning a no-decision. Tegan
Cain operated a perfect inning of work recording a pair of
strikeouts.

Cougars beat Labette 18-8, advance on in Region VI

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Taylor Hearn allowed only one hit in five scoreless innings, Brad Miller homered and the Texas Rangers defeated the Kansas City Royals 3-1 on Thursday night.

The Royals’ first hit literally was off Hearn. Michael A. Taylor sent a liner up the middle off the pitcher’s leg that continued to the left of second base and into left field with two out in the second inning.

Hearn (2-2) walked three and struck out five.

Joe Barlow pitched a scoreless ninth, retiring Whit Merrifield on a grounder with two runners on base, for his sixth save in six opportunities.

Jonathan Heasley (0-1) allowed four hits and four runs in 3 1/3 innings in his first major league appearance this season.

Hearn had not pitched in 11 days, while he was briefly out of the rotation and available to come out of the bullpen.

“I was trying to come in consistent,” Hearn said. “You can try to prepare for games but it’s different when you get in there your first time seeing a lot of batters. It felt a little weird.”

Hearn threw 64 pitches and said he could have gone longer.

Manager Chris Woodward thought Hearn had thrown enough.

“We weren’t sure how he was going to respond after being out for so long,” Woodward said. “He was really honest, but you could tell he was a little bit fatigued.”

Miller led off the bottom of the first inning with an infield hit against a shift and later scored on a two-out, popup single by Kole Calhoun over third baseman Emmanuel Rivera’s head in short left field.

Miller hit a home run, his fifth, off the right field foul pole in the seventh. The homer was reviewed, and the home run call was confirmed.

Miller popped out with the bases loaded in the fourth inning of a 1-0 game.

“He was kicking himself,” Woodward said. “He was saying, ‘I’ve got to get a run in there.’

“He thrives in big spots because he has no fear. He said he knew it was a home run because he knocked down the pole.”

Texas reliever Brock Burke pitched two hitless innings before Kansas City used three consecutive singles to break up the shutout in eighth against John King. Matt Bush relieved King to get the third out, fanning Bobby Witt Jr. with runners at first and second.

Adolis Garcia restored Texas’ two-run lead in the bottom half when he tripled and scored on Josh Staumont’s wild pitch.

Heasley was recalled from Triple-A Omaha to take the place of LHP Kris Bubic, who was optioned to Omaha. The 25-year-old Heasley was 1-1 in three starts for the Royals last season.

“It’s an opportunity,” manager Mike Matheny said. “He’s going to be someone that we’re going to watch closely now that he’ll be here to help us. He’s got three plus pitches — changeup and breaking ball are both very good, and his fastball. This is going to be a good test for him back in his home territory. It’s an extra add to already being a great test, and he’s ready for it.”

Heasley is from Plano, Texas, 29 miles from Globe Life Field. Hearn is from Royse City, an additional 20 miles from the Rangers’ home field.

Royals: C Cam Gallagher was eligible to come off the injured list on Thursday, but he remained inactive. C Sebastian Rivero started in his first major league game this season after being recalled from Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Rangers: RHP Josh Sborz, who had been optioned to Triple-A Round Rock after coming off the IL May 1, returned to the Rangers’ roster. He replaced LHP Kolby Allard, who was optioned to Round Rock.

Royals: Begin a three-game series at Colorado on Friday with RHP Zach Greinke (0-2, 2.67) opposing Rockies LHP Kyle Freeland (1-3, 3.94).

Bannon went 1 for 4 with a strikeout and two flyouts. He was the 2017 Big East Player of the Year at Xavier.

DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Mavericks will head back to Phoenix for a seventh game in the NBA's Western Conference semifinals. Luka Doncic delivered 33 points as the Mavs clobbered the Suns, 113-86. Reggie Bullock scored 19 points and Jalen Brunson added 18 for Dallas. Devin Booker scored 19 points for the Suns but was shut out from 3-point range while going 6 of 17 overall from the field.

Lady Panther Soccer knocks off Wichita South

The 12th ranked Barton Community College women's golf team avoided the big troubles they faced a day prior to remain in 11th place after three days of the NJCAA Division I Championships.

Starting on the back nine yesterday, the Cougars were back to the traditional front nine to begin the round on Wednesday, completing the day with a six stroke improvement to card a combined 60-over 348. The result leaves Barton twenty-five strokes behind Tyler Junior College at 177-over 1041 for the tournament as pairing partner McLennan Community College put together its second straight solid round to move up into the 9th position.

The Cougars conclude the Championships on Thursday with a back nine 7:10 a.m. Central Time tee time, pairing with Tyler and 12th place Ranger College who shaved fourteen strokes of the Cougar advantage to trail by just ten shots headed to the final round.

Pornnapa Inmee bounced back from an uncharacteristic tough second round, leading the Cougars on the third day with four birdies in carding a 12-over 84. The improvement moved Inmee up a spot to 54th overall at 44-over 260.

Leading the squad throughout the tournament has been Mathanee Pandee. Beginning the round with a triple bogey, Pandee parred the next three holes before carding her lone birdie of the round coming on the par three 5th to make the turn at 6-over. A pair of pars began the back nine but the last six holes produced a 9-over resulting in 15-over 87 round for an eleven spot tumble down the leaderboard to 29th at 31-over 247.

Pawinee Sukasem was again the steady player in each of the three rounds, posting her best round thus far with a 16-over 88 to move up a one spot into a tie for 62nd at 53-over 269. The round also featured her lone birdie of the week, joining Inmee in putting up a red number on the par three 3rd hole.

Matilyn Newman carded her second consecutive solid round to help the team score, posting four pars and just one triple bogey in posting a 17-over 89 in dropping one spot to a tie for 67th at 56-over 272.

Battling sickness all week, Paulina Villavicencio persevered through another round to post a 23-over 95. Avoiding big trouble except for a triple bogey on the par three 7th, Villavicencio fell four spots to 75th at 65-over 281.

Cougars hold steady leading into final day of NJCAA Women's Golf Championships

The 11th ranked Barton Community College women's tennis team surpassed their ranking with a 10th place finish at the 2022 NJCAA Division I National Tennis Championships held at the Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson, Arizona

In four days of competition the Cougars were a combined 12-9 on the court with three of those defeats coming to injury defaults while two others came to the eventual national champion.

Barton finished in the top ten for the second straight season, compiling 20 points for their 10th place standing, one point from 9th place and three points ahead of 11th place Meridian Community College.

The Cougars got off to a near flawless 7-1 start to the Championships, sweeping the three doubles matches and winning four of their singles while receiving a bye in the No. 4 flight.

Taking the lone loss in the first round was Angelina Gnezdilova in the No. 1 flight to the nation's 11th ranked player. Getting a day of recovery before getting back to the court, Gnezdilova rattled off three straight convincing wins on the backside to capture the Consolation Finals title. Ranked 12th on the season, Gnezdilova won the No. 4 flight backdraw last season as the Emporia State University commit compiled a 7-2 record at Nationals in her two years donning the Cougar uniform.

Clara Penido, who is ranked 36th and seeded 8th in the No. 2 flight, racked up a pair of victories including knocking off the nation's 26th ranked player. Penido's season came to an end in the Quarterfinals to the top seeded and 2nd ranked player but handed the eventual national champion the most losses in a match (4) throughout the tournament.

Penido also had her No. 1 flight doubles season come to an end to an eventual champion. Teaming with Gnezdilova, the duo won their first round easily before taking a 6-4, 6-2 loss to the 3rd ranked squad.

Three others went 1-1 on the court, 6th seeded Azul Barrios in the No. 4 flight, Paula Curci in the No. 5 flight, and Barrios and Curci in the No. 2 flight doubles.

Malena Hernandez, ranked 50th nationally, and Jacie Roth easily won the first round singles match by twin 6-0 scores in the No. 3 and No. 6 flights respectively then later teamed up for a first round No. 3 flight victory. Unfortunately for both, injuries sidelined them forcing a tournament withdrawal.

Barton women's tennis posts second consecutive top ten national finish

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Local high school star Bobby Witt Jr. hit a two-run double and had his first three-RBI game in the majors, Whit Merrifield homered for the first time since last August and the Kansas City Royals beat the Texas Rangers 8-2 on Wednesday night to snap a three-game losing streak.

Emmanuel Rivera padded a three-run Royals lead in the ninth inning, clearing the bases with a two-out, pinch-hit triple.

Witt Jr., the second overall pick in the 2019 draft out of nearby Colleyville High School, smashed a first-pitch slider into the left-field corner in the fifth inning. The rookie drove Merrifield home from third base in the seventh on a tapper to third, with Brad Miller’s throw home late.

“It’s always great just to be able to play with friends, family and a lot of people in front of you and be able to live out my dream and be able to see them out there supporting,” said Witt, who was hitless in his first six at-bats in this series.

Merrifield also hit a first-pitch slider into the left-field seats in the third for his first home run in 255 at-bats. The two-time AL hits leader came in with a .139 batting average and enjoyed his first three-hit game of the season. It was his first multi-run game of the year.

“I really haven’t been as frustrated as you might think based on my numbers,” Merrifield said. “I’ve felt really good. And if I feel good, I know stuff’s going to turn around.”

Miller and Corey Seager hit solo homers for Texas. It was Seager’s third in two games. Miller’s came as a pinch hitter in the sixth, his second pinch-hit homer in four days.

The Royals won the battle of openers, forced by both teams having multiple rainouts last weekend and playing Sunday doubleheaders and Monday makeup games.

Joel Payamps (1-1), the second of six Kansas City pitchers, allowed two singles in three innings to earn the victory, striking out five and walking none. The three innings matched the most of Payamps’ four-year big-league career, set in his debut against Colorado in August 2019.

Kolby Allard (0-2) was the second of Texas’ six pitchers after being called up from Triple-A Round Rock earlier in the day. Allard gave up Merrifield’s homer among two hits and a walk in three innings.

Royals opener Gabe Speier pitched two no-hit innings in his first major league start and hasn’t allowed a run this season in 11 1/3 innings.

The Rangers committed four errors and had a wild pitch that contributed to a Royals run.

“There wasn’t really much good,” said Texas manager Chris Woodward, whose team came in having won six of its last eight.

One day after Witt played his first game against the franchise that he grew up cheering, Bobby Witt Sr. turned 58 on Wednesday. The elder Witt pitched 11 of his 16 big league seasons with the Rangers.

Rivera hit the first three-run pinch-hit triple in franchise history. ... With Allard’s recall, Rangers OF Zach Reks was optioned to Round Rock. ... Speier’s grand uncle is Chris Speier, the former major leaguer (1971-89) and coach (2000-20). ... The Rangers announced they will induct former 2B Ian Kinsler and longtime public relations director John Blake into the team’s hall of fame in mid-August.

Rangers: RHP Spencer Patton (right oblique strain) ended his rehab outing and was optioned to Round Rock.

Royals: RHP Jonathan Heasley will be recalled from Triple-A Omaha to make his season debut with Kansas City in Thursday night’s series finale. The Dallas resident who attended Plano’s Prestonwood Christian Academy had a 4.44 ERA in six starts this season with Omaha. Kansas City must make room on the roster for Heasley.

The Barton Community College baseball team put up a six run second inning and rode eight solid innings from starting pitcher Zach Thornton at Lawson-Biggs Field Wednesday afternoon earning a game one 7-2 victory in the opening round of the Central District Region VI Tournament.

Improving to 40-16 on the season, the Cougars take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three game series with Labette dropping to 17-31. Barton will look to close out the series tomorrow afternoon with game two scheduled to get underway at 1:00 p.m. with admission to the nine-inning game free to the public, with audio/video web streaming and live stats found at www.BartonSports.com.

In the bottom of the second, Barton would push across the opening two runs benefitting off a trio of wild pitches and four straight walks to open the frame drawn by Dryden Howse, Connor Allen, Shawn Marquis and Wade Reynolds. Adding a third run on a Jace Stewart RBI groundout, three straight two-out Cougar RBI singles by Alex Rodgers, Ricardo Sanchez and Henry Hayman supplied a 6-0 advantage.

Locked into a pitcher's duel over the next three innings with only one hit coming on a fifth inning Howse double, the Cougars ended the scoreless stretch in the sixth on Rodgers' second RBI single of the day bringing home a Nieves one-out single and steal extending the advantage to 7-0.

Facing his lone jam of the day succeeding three straight singles to load the bases in the seventh, Thornton limited the damage permitting one run inducing a double play and groundout escaping further trouble.

Labette's Gabe Russell added the game's final tally in the top of the ninth with a solo-shot to left center resting the final score to 7-2.

Allowing just one run over eighth innings, Thornton scattered just four hits and struck out six improving his perfect mark to 9-0 on the year. Continuing his climb up, the programs single season record books, Thornton moved into a fifth place tie for most wins and leaped into sole possession of fifth place with 88 strikeouts and counting.

Bryan Bartels tossed the final frame out of the bullpen allowing two hits, one run and fanning a pair of Cardinals.

Rodgers, Sanchez, Howse and Nieves each paced the Barton bats recording a pair of hits with Rodgers leading the runs driven in production with two.

Barton Baseball takes 1-0 series lead over Labette

Riley was awarded $3.95 million rather than his $4.25 million request. Arbitrators Richard Bloch, Steven Wolf and John Woods heard the case virtually on Tuesday. A two-time Gold Glove winner, O'Neill was awarded $3.4 million instead of his $4.15 million request. Mark Burstein, Brian Keller and John Stout who heard the case on Friday. Two cases are pending and 16 additional players are eligible for arbitration, with hearings scheduled through June 24.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The Memphis Grizzlies have forced a Game 6 in the NBA's Western Conference semifinals by crushing the Golden State Warriors, 134-95. Thursday Sports Headlines and Scores presented by Barton Community College

Angelina Gnezdilova finished off her season with a consolation bracket title Tuesday to lead the 11th ranked Barton Community College women's tennis team to a 10th place finish at the 2022 NJCAA Division I National Tennis Championships.

Gnezdilova closed out the Cougars' four days at the Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson, Arizona, with a dominating 8-1 victory over Italia Jones of Wallace State in the No. 1 flight's consolation finals.

The result increased Barton's total to 20 points, sitting firmly in the 10th spot into final day action three points ahead of Meridian Community College.

Going 8-2 at the National Championships in her two seasons, Gnezdilova also captured the No. 4 flight consolation title last year in Mesa.

Barton Women's tennis 10th at Nationals

NEW YORK, N.Y. – University of Kansas head men’s basketball coach Bill Self and University of South Carolina head women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley, the winning coaches of the 2022 NCAA Division I basketball championships, received the Winged Foot Award at a gala banquet at the New York Athletic Club on Tuesday evening.

This was the second time Self has received the Winged Foot Award. In 2008, he was honored with it along with then-Tennessee head coach Pat Summit. The 2022 Winged Foot Award was Staley’s second as well.

The 2022 national champion Jayhawks went 34-6, tied for the Big 12 regular-season title with a 14-4 record, won the Big 12 Tournament, advanced to KU’s 16th Final Four and won Kansas’ sixth national title, fourth in NCAA history. KU won its final 11 games of the 2021-22 season.

"This was basically the perfect team. We struggled to win the last two games to win the league and won a Big 12 Tournament to decide who the best team is (in the Big 12). That was a team that things just fell perfect. We can say this team was destined to win the national championship because there were so many things about it, it was so special."

Kansas men’s basketball staff joined Self for the two-day celebration of the Winged Foot Award. Located adjacent to Central Park in New York City, the New York Athletic Club hosted a welcome reception for both programs on the roof of the building overseeing the city. The following morning, Self visited ESPN studios at Pier 17 and did a radio segment on the Keyshawn, JWill and Max morning show.

KU assistant coach Norm Roberts introduced Self, while long-time CBS broadcaster Billy Packer was the banquet’s emcee. Packer’s final game called for CBS was the 2008 Final Four, where Kansas won the title against Memphis.

The Winged Foot Award is among the most prestigious in the world of collegiate basketball and honors the winning coaches of the men’s and women’s NCAA National Basketball Championship. The 2022 marked the 26th annual presentation of the Winged Foot Award at the NYAC’s Manhattan headquarters. The New York Athletic Club recognizes that the coaches are the players’ guides both on and off the court during a time when good role models are most important. The New York Athletic Club takes great pride in recognizing and commending the people who make such a difference in the lives of student athletes.

While at Kansas, Self has won two national championships, 16 regular-season Big 12 Conference titles, including a KU, Big 12 and NCAA-record 14-straight titles from 2005-18, and nine league tournament titles. Bill Self Receives His Second Winged Foot Award from New York Athletic Club

Twelve was not a favorable number Tuesday for the 12th ranked Barton Community College women's golf team as day two of the NJCAA Division I Championships slid the Cougars down a spot to 11th.

Barton began second round action on the back nine, a stretch of holes that gave the squad fits throughout the lineup. Overall the Cougars' five-member combined scores on the opening nine holes was 58-over, twenty-six strokes worse than the scores after the turn at 32-over. Sticking a thorn in the Cougars' side three holes into the round was the par five 12th hole as Barton would take a sixteen stroke hit across the five scorecards on the day.

The end result was a fifteen stroke difference from the Cougars' Monday opening round, finishing the day at 66-over 354. Dropping behind McLennan Community College in the standings, the two will be joined by 12th place Ranger College in the 7:59 a.m. Central Time pairings beginning on hole one. McLennan's 93-over leads the Cougars' 117-over while Ranger faces the same twenty-four stroke deficit from Barton at 141-over.

Barton's leader Mathanee Pandee was no exception to the 12th, taking a triple bogey on the way to make the turn at 8-over. Riding the ship on the front portion of the course for a 3-over, Pandee posted an 11-over 83 to drop seven spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 18th.

The lone Cougar to make a climb on day two was the fifth member of the squad Matilyn Newman. Like Pandee, Newman also took a triple on the 12th in posting a 10-over after the first nine holes. Avoiding any similar hiccups on the second nine, Newman rang the bell for a pair of birdies to lead the Cougars in the category on day two, closing with a 4-over on team second best round of 14-over 86 to vault eleven spots up to 66th.

Pawinee Sukasem stayed consistent in day two action, improving a stroke from day one's score in moving up one spot to 63rd on her 18-over 90 round. Sukasem parred the troublesome twelfth but the 13th hole made amends in dealing her lone triple bogey of the day.

Pornnapa Inmee and Paulina Villavicencio both were dealt a big blow on the 12th resulting in big tumbles down the leaderboard.

The opening nine holes knocked Inmee around a little with a pair of triples and a quadruple bogey on the 12th for an 18-over at the turn, doubling up what her day one total of 9-over. Shaking off the rough start, Inmee birdied the 3rd hole but the 4th, the day's statistically toughest hole, tagged a quintuple bogey to spoil what was a solid 8-over final nine holes. Inmee's final card read a 23-over 95 to drop twenty-one spots on the leaderboard to 55th.

If not for the 12th hole, Villavicencio's round would have matched her opening score. Instead, the 6-over par on the day's fourth hardest hole was the lone glaring blemish on the 24-over 96 round in sliding fifteen spots to 71st. Like her teammates, Villavicencio followed the opening 16-over in closing the back nine strong by carding an 8-over to leave the Mayfair Country Club with the 12th in distant memory.

Barton women's golf 11th after day two of NJCAA Championships

The 4th ranked Barton Community College women's track and field team won eight events this past weekend in Garden City to finish runner-up at the KJCCC/Region VI Outdoor Championships.

The Cougars performed at a high level up and down the lineup with eighteen Top-3 placings among their twenty-five scoring performances, posted twenty-two personal or seasonal bests, added its 32nd national qualifying performances, and impacted the storied program record book with five performances.

Barton hauled home a pair of coveted individual women's awards from the meet, Nia Robinson earning the High Point Athlete of the Meet and Lashanna Graham the Track Athlete of the Meet. The Cougar men also earned two awards with Brandon Lloyd earning the Field Athlete of the Meet and Emmanuel Dixon named the Men's Assistant Coach of the Meet.

The Cougar men also earned two awards with Brandon Lloyd earning the Field Athlete of the Meet and Emmanuel Dixon named the Men's Assistant Coach of the Meet.Next up is the season finale May 19-21 as the Cougars head to Hutchinson, Kansas, for the NJCAA Division I Championships.Robinson won three events for thirty points in the course of two days on season or personal best efforts beginning Friday taking the long jump with a 6.40m (21-00.00) mark, just six inches from her program record of 6.56m set in last season's Region VI Championship. Saturday morning Robinson claimed the triple jump with the program 5th best mark of 12.87m (42-02.75). Not done headed to the early afternoon high jump, Robinson passed until what would be the second place 1.62m height. Clearing that and three other heights on her first try, Robinson rose to a program 3rd best 1.80m (5-10.75) on her second attempt to cap her victory. The now three-time record book entry attempted the six foot height a trio of times but came just shy full clearance each attempt.Graham compiled 18 points in less than two minutes on the track, taking second in the 400m at 57.19 then seventy minutes later the 400m hurdle program record holder clocked her fourth fastest time ever of 59.18 to claim the title just ahead of Ashantae Harvey's 59.23 in etching her name on the fourth slot of the program all-time list. Deborah Lowe made it a 1-2-3 Barton finish with a personal best 1:01.99 as the trio are all qualified for the national meet.Harvey was also part of a history 2-3 Barton finish in the 100m hurdles, clocking a personal best 13.48 program 8th best for third place as Danae Nembhard was runner-up .04 seconds faster at 13.44 to record the program's 6th best fastest time while sister Ashanti Harvey joined the two as a national qualifier with a 14.27 time in prelims before sitting out the finals after a previous busy two days of the multi events.The Cougars got off to a seventeen point start to the meet in the heptathlon, led by Lowe's runner-up 4309 points behind four personal bests including taking first in the 200m (24.63) and the final 800 grueling run in 2:25.64. Ashanti Harvey took second in just her first ever multi-event completion, winning the 100m hurdles (14.81) along the way in racking up 3357 points. Malama Toure moved up in the standings on day one behind a personal best 9.40m shot put mark before winning Friday's first event on a personal best 5.20m long jump to eventually place 6th with 3120 points.Completing the day in the 4x400m relay, Graham tacked on another ten points to her total anchoring the team of Naiya Morgan, Kayan Green and Jayda Dillon to a winning 3:46.49 time.Green also won a championship two hours prior in the 800m clocking a season best 2:15.04 time. Dillon added twelve points to the Cougars' total behind a pair of personal best times in a 100m runner-up 11.53 and a fifth place 200m finish at 22.83 after a 22.74 time in prelims.Two of Barton's individual champions came in the throwing events led by Kelsie Murrell-Ross bettering her program 4th best shot put mark with a winning 15.55m (51-00.25). Jada Sewell, led a 1-2-3 Barton placing in the hammer throw with a 49.27m (161-08) while fellow national qualifiers Ariana Rodriguez marked a runner-up 48.00m (157-06) as Efe Latham's third place throw landed at 46.60m (152-11). Sewell also placed sixth in the discus at 39.83m (130-08) with Efe Latham's personal best 40.22m (131-11) finished 3rd in the javelin.
