HAYS, Kan. - Trevor Watts caught a career-high 13 passes for 210 yards, Travis Dixon rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns but it wasn't enough to overcome a record-setting day from Emporia State senior quarterback Braden Gleason who set the MIAA record for touchdown passes in the Hornets 45-42 win over Fort Hays State Saturday afternoon at Lewis Field.

Gleason completed 30 of 40 passes for 369 yards and six touchdowns and now has 109 career touchdown passes breaking the MIAA record of 107 set by Eric Czerniewski of Central Missouri between 2006-10.

The Tigers (7-4, 6-4 MIAA) scored touchdowns on two of their first three possessions but trailed by 18 in the second and third quarter before closing the gap to three following a successful two-point conversion late in the third quarter.

FHSU got a stop on the next Emporia State possession but Trevor Watts muffed the punt giving the Hornets (8-3, 7-3 MIAA) the ball back at the 12-yard line. They would score three plays later to build the lead back to 45-35.

Jack Dawson would score on a one-yard run with 47 seconds to play but the Tigers couldn't recover an onside kick and ESU ran out the clock.

The two teams combined for 997 yards of total offense. Fort Hays State produced 513, a season high in an MIAA game. The Tiger defense had a hard time solving the up-tempo Hornet offense in the first half, yielding 313 yards at halftime but held ESU to 171 yards in the second half.

Travis Dixon scored on touchdowns runs of two and 30 yards in the first quarter and had 110 of his 154 rushing yards at halftime. 

FHSU trailed 17-13 after the first quarter but was forced to punt on their next two possessions. The Hornets answered with touchdowns but push the lead to 31-13 after scoring in their first five possessions.

Jack Dawson hit freshman wide receiver Jabari Lewis on a 14-yard touchdown pass with just over a minute to to play in the second to cut the  gap to 31-20 at halftime.

After Emporia State scored a touchdown on the first possession of the third quarter, the Tiger defense got stops on five of the next six possessions. The only score came following the muffed punt.

Dawson finished 24-31 for career-high 362 yards and three touchdowns. In addition to the TD pass to Lewis, he connected on a six-yard strike to Jayden Horace and a  24-yard strike to Trevor Watts in the fourth quarter.

Watts became the first 200-yard receiver for FHSU in a game since Monterio Burchfield in 2017 against Central Oklahoma, finishing with 210 yards on 13 catches.

Defensively, John Johnson led the Tigers with 13 tackles followed by Makel Williams with 11.

For a second-straight game, the Hornets had two 100-yard receivers. Tayler Kahman hauled in nine passes for 119 yards and three scores while Ethan Schultze added 103 yards on four catches.

Fort Hays State has now reached at least seven wins in a season seven times under head coach Chris Brown.

Tigers come up short in shootout with Hornets to close out regular season

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Will Howard became the all-time leader in touchdown passes in Kansas State history, leading the Wildcats past Baylor 59-25. Howard was 19-of-29 for 235 yards and three touchdowns. He moved past Josh Freeman with 45 career touchdown passes. It was Howard’s fifth game this season with at least three TD passes, tying Freeman for the school record. Kansas State has scored at least 40 points in all six home games this season. Blake Shapen was 22-of-45 for 253 yards and four touchdowns for Baylor.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Quinn Ewers threw for 317 yards and a touchdown in his return from a shoulder injury, helping No. 7 Texas edge TCU 29-26. The 9-1 Longhorns also got a big lift from Jonathon Brooks, who rushed for 104 yards and two TDs and set up another score with a 73-yard gain on a short pass before getting hurt late. Ewers, a sophomore quarterback who missed two games after he got hurt on Oct. 21, completed 22 of 33 passes. Emani Bailey ran for 98 yards and a touchdown for 4-6 TCU. Last year’s national runner-up lost its third consecutive game and will have to win its last two just to get bowl eligible.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Dillon Gabriel accounted for a school-record eight touchdowns to help No. 17 Oklahoma roll past West Virginia 59-20. Gabriel passed for 423 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 50 yards and three scores. Drake Stoops had career highs of 164 yards and three touchdowns receiving, Gavin Sawchuk had a career-best 135 yards rushing and Nic Anderson added four catches for 119 yards for Oklahoma. West Virginia’s CJ Donaldson ran for 79 yards and a touchdown before going down with a left leg injury in the third quarter.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — R.J. Harvey had a 92-yard touchdown run and UCF’s defense forced four turnovers to help the Knights rout No. 15 Oklahoma State 45-3 on Saturday. Harvey rushed for 206 yards and three touchdowns to give him over 1,000 yards on the season. He’s run for over 100 yards in five straight games — the first Knights back to do that since Kevin Smith in 2007 — and his 92-yard TD was the second-longest run in school history. Harvey had 157 of his yards in the second half. The UCF defense was stellar with three interceptions and forcing Oklahoma State’s star running back Ollie Gordon to fumble for only the second time this season.

PROVO, Utah (AP) — Rocco Becht threw for 203 yards and two touchdowns to lead Iowa State to a 45-13 victory over BYU. Becht now has thrown 15 touchdown passes this season, one shy of matching the freshman record set by current San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. Jaylin Noel caught both touchdown passes and tallied 98 yards on five receptions. The Cyclones had a season-high 234 yards rushing, moved to 5-0 all-time against BYU, and earned their third straight road win. Jake Retzlaff threw for 104 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions in his second start for BYU. Retzlaff also had 64 of the Cougars’ season-high 188 yards rushing. BYU lost its third straight game after once again starting slow and struggling to finish drives.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Gino Garcia hit a game-winning 30-yard field goal with 3 seconds to play and Texas Tech upset No. 19 Kansas 16-13 on Saturday. Tahj Brooks ran for 133 yards and a touchdown as the Red Raiders (5-5, 4-3 Big 12) came back after Kansas (7-3, 4-3) tied the game on a 22-yard field goal by Seth Keller with 26 seconds left in regulation. Behren Morton completed passes of 16, 14 and 32 yards as Texas Tech went 63 yards in 20 seconds to set up Garcia's third field goal of the game.

HOUSTON (AP) — Corey Kiner rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns as Cincinnati piled up 204 rushing yards and the Bearcats earned their first Big 12 win with a 24-14 win over Houston Saturday night.Emory Jones threw for 131 yards and a touchdown for the Bearcats, which snapped a seven-game losing streak.Jones threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Montgomery in the first quarter, and Kiner rushed for a 1-yard touchdown with eight minutes left in the second to put Cincinnati (3-7, 1-6 Big 12) ahead 14-7 in the second. Kiner added a 5-yard touchdown run in the fourth.The Bearcats outgained Houston 368-241 yards.

(AP) — Carson Beck threw for 306 yards, Kendall Milton ran for 127 yards and Brock Bowers made a triumphant return for No. 1 Georgia, which punctuated its return to the Southeastern Conference championship game with a 52-17 rout of No. 10 Mississippi on Saturday night.The Bulldogs (10-0, 7-0 SEC, No. 2 College Football Playoff) turned in their most impressive performance of the season, seemingly peaking at just the right time to make a run at their third straight national title.Georgia scored touchdowns on its first four possessions, building a 28-14 halftime lead against Ole Miss (8-2, 5-2, No. 9) and cruising the rest of the way to its 27th consecutive victory.

UNDATED (AP) — The Alabama team that seemed to be trending in the wrong direction in September is now a legitimate national championship contender with quarterback Jalen Milroe as an emerging star and fringe Heisman Trophy candidate. After sharing the marquee with LSU’s Jayden Daniels last week, Milroe was the star of the show as No. 8 Alabama routed Kentucky. Milroe accounted for six touchdowns, three through the air and three on the ground. That had never been down by an Alabama player. Elsewhere, No. 2 Michigan won without Jim Harbaugh under the direction of his possible long-term replacement.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Will Howard became the all-time leader in touchdown passes in Kansas State history, leading the Wildcats past Baylor 59-25 on Saturday afternoon.

“It's an unbelievable honor,” he said. “If you would have told an 18-year-old Will Howard who threw three picks at West Virginia that he'd be standing here (in this position), he would have told you you were crazy.

"It still really hasn't sunk in yet. It's crazy to think about.”

Howard was 19-of-29 for 235 yards and three touchdowns. He moved past Josh Freeman with 45 career touchdown passes. It was Howard's fifth game this season with at least three TD passes, tying Freeman for the school record.

The fact that Howard is in this place is a testimony to perseverance. He was booed frequently early in his career when he backed up Skylar Thompson and Adrian Martinez. Now he's the unquestioned leader of the K-State offense.

“With all the stuff I've had to deal with here, I'm privileged to be in the position I'm in,” he said. “It means the world. I'm floored.”

Kansas State (7-3, 5-2 Big 12) has scored at least 40 points in all six home games (6-0) this season.

“A great performance by our guys today,” coach Chris Klieman said. “Our guys came to play today.

"We had two defensive touchdowns. We had four stops on fourth down and four turnovers. When you have eight (takeaways) it's hard to beat you.”

Blake Shapen was 22-of-45 for 253 yards and four touchdowns for Baylor (3-7, 2-5 Big 12).

“I'm just way frustrated and upset,” Baylor coach Dave Aranda said. “My comments to the team were, ‘This is bottom. You can’t get any worse than this, with the score and the feeling you have.”

K-State extended its 35-13 halftime lead early in the third quarter on a 33-yard field goal by Chris Tennant.

Shapen hit Drake Dabney for a 63-yard touchdown. After a pair of laterals, Shapen found Dabney, who eluded the K-State defense. The Wildcats responded with a nine-play, 73-yard touchdown drive, capped by Treshaun Ward's 4-yard run.

Keenan Garber then picked off Shapen and returned it 45 yards for a pick-6.

“I never would have thought my first one would come on defense,” said Garber, who began his career as a receiver but never scored a touchdown before Saturday. “Once I saw the quarterback come my way, I knew (the ball) was coming my way. I made a good read on it and followed through with the catch.”

K-State took the opening kickoff and scored on a 19-yard screen pass from Howard to DJ Giddens, capping a 12-play, 81-yard drive. But Baylor responded immediately with a five-play, 72-yard drive to tie it when Shapen found Dawson Pendergrass for a 13-yard touchdown.

Howard found Ben Sinnott in the end zone for a 14-yard touchdown as the Wildcats regained the lead, 14-7.

Desmond Purnell scored a defensive touchdown to extend the lead to 21-7. Cody Stufflebean hit Shapen from behind, forcing a fumble that Purnell picked up and ran 15 yards untouched into the end zone.

“Coach (defensive coordinator Joe) Klanderman called a great blitz,” Stufflebean said. “For some reason they slid off of me and I came free on the edge and just got home.”

Howard then plunged in from the 1-yard line on fourth down early in the second quarter to add to the lead. Things only got worse for Baylor. Palmer Williams fumbled the snap on a punt and was tackled at the 2. Howard then found Christian Moore on a 2-yard pass for a 35-7 lead with 13:07 left in the half. Howard's third TD pass of the game gave him the career mark.

Baylor: The Bears will be looking toward next year. With seven losses, bowl eligibility is no longer and option.

Kansas State: The Wildcats still have a chance to defend their conference championship. If they win out, there are plenty of tiebreakers that could put them in the Big 12 Championship Game in Arlington, Texas, on Dec. 2.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Gino Garcia hit a game-winning 30-yard field goal with 3 seconds to play and Texas Tech upset No. 19 Kansas 16-13 on Saturday as the Jayhawks struggled after losing quarterback Jason Bean in the first half.

Behren Morton completed passes of 16, 14 and 32 yards as Texas Tech went 63 yards in 20 seconds to set up the game-deciding kick.

“Those were day one installs,” Morton said. “Jerand (Bradley) went up and got that last ball and I just tried to put it where only he could get it.”

Tahj Brooks ran for 133 yards and a touchdown as the Red Raiders (5-5, 4-3 Big 12) came back after Kansas (7-3, 4-3) tied the game on a 22-yard field goal by Seth Keller with 26 seconds left in regulation.

“We go up against our defense every day so I had faith they'd do the job,” Brooks said. “They came up big for us with those stops.”

Texas Tech stopped Kansas after they had several chances to score inside the 10-yard line and take the lead.

“We battled and found a way to tie it up late but credit them for driving down the field,” Kansas coach Lance Leipold said. “Our defense found a way to get stops and responded well when challenged. Offensively, I don’t think we ever fully got set today.”

Texas Tech opened a 10-0 lead in the first quarter as Brooks scored early in a 5-yard TD run. Garcia added a 32-yard field goal late in the quarter.

The Red Raiders extended their lead to 13-0 early in the third quarter on Garcia's second field goal before Kansas got back in the game on a Devin Neal 60-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter.

“We haven't been able to win on the road this year, we've played well, but haven't got many wins to show for it,” Texas Tech coach Joey McGuire said. “Kansas is a good team and now we need one more win to make it to a bowl.”

Perry knocked down three 3-pointers and all six of his free-throw attempts in the final 20 minutes and finished with five assists and a steal. Arthur Kaluma and Darrin Ames each contributed 12 points and Ames added a team-high six assists to go with three steals.

Bash Wieland had 17 points, seven boards and three assists to lead Bellarmine (0-2), beginning its fourth season as a Division I program. Langdon Hatton added 14 points and Ben Johnson 12.

Perry's 15-point second half carries Kansas State past Bellarmine, 83-75

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Top-ranked Kansas has cruised to a pair of easy wins in a season that hasn't even begun.

At least, not as far as Bill Self is concerned.

After romping past North Carolina Central earlier in the week, the Jayhawks cruise to a 99-61 victory over Manhattan on Friday night. In both of the games, Kansas took a big early lead, shot the ball well and made life miserable for its opponents on defense.

“Now the season starts,” Self said. “We played fairly well getting through them but now we have to really hunker down.”

That's because the Jayhawks (2-0) have No. 16 Kentucky next in the Champions Classic on Tuesday night. Then they head to the Maui Invitational, where a stacked field includes No. 3 Purdue, No. 5 Marquette, No. 9 Tennessee, No. 11 Gonzaga, Syracuse and Tennessee. And soon after returning home, sixth-ranked and defending national champ UConn visits Allen Fieldhouse.

“It'll be a totally different animal than what we've experienced so far,” Self said, “but we'll be very excited about it.”

The Jayhawks got contributions from just about everyone on Friday night. Hunter Dickinson had 18 points and eight rebounds, Kevin McCullar Jr. and Johnny Furphy added 15 points apiece, and KJ Adams Jr. finished with 14 points. Elmarko Jackson added 10 assists and nine points.

“We're super athletic. You look at our roster, you have a lot of guys that can make a lot of different plays," McCullar said. We've got guys that can make high-impact plays and that gives us energy and life when we're playing at home."

Seydou Traore had 16 points to lead Manhattan (1-1), which trailed 17-4 in the opening minutes and 44-19 by halftime.

Unlike their opener, when the Jayhawks were lights-out from beyond the arc against North Carolina Central, they relied on their bruising interior players to beat up the Jaspers on Friday night.

The 6-foot-7 Adams, who played an undersized post most of last season, took advantage of the 7-2 Dickinson eating up space in the paint all night. The attention drawn by the Michigan transfer allowed Adams to get loose for six dunks, including one for the Jayhawks' first points and another on an ally-oop slam late in the first half.

“That's a pretty exciting way to play,” Furphy admitted. “It brings a lot of energy, definitely.”

The Jayhawks' massive size advantage paid off on defense, too. They had nine blocks by the time they hit the locker room, and that contributed to 9-for-33 first-half shooting by the Jaspers that allowed the game to get out of hand.

“It felt good," said Furphy, who scored his 15 points in just 20 minutes of floor time. “I think it's really exciting when we generate our offense from the defensive end. I think that's kind of the best way to play.”

Manhattan has a new coach in John Gallagher and almost an entirely new team, including seven freshmen and eight transfers. The growing pains were evident against the best team the Jaspers will likely face all season.

Kansas dominated across the board, out-rebounding the Jaspers 45-32, outscoring them in the paint 50-20 and shooting 57% percent from the field. If not for 14 turnovers, and some second-half defensive lapses, Self would have had little to critique.

Kansas powers past Manhattan 99-61 in tuneup for Kentucky

Friday's Class 2A sectional football game in Hoisington featured the only battle between two unbeaten teams across the state. Southeast of Saline entered with one of the top-rated defenses in all over Kansas. The Cardinals entered with one of the top offenses in Class 2A. Early on it became clear the offenses would prevail. So did Hoisington in a 49-42 shootout. The Cardinals will face another unbeaten in Norton in next Friday's state semifinals.

"I thought we executed," said Cardinal coach Zach Baird. "I thought guys made plays. I thought (senior quarterback Tony Moore) was phenomenal. We've been keeping him under wraps, not doing everything with him. Tonight, we told him we were going to turn him loose. He made plays. I'm super proud of everybody, but Tony was special."

There were few defensive stops by either side in the contest but the Cards did force a Trojan punt on the first possession of the night. Teron Kraft put Hoisington on the board from two yards out a few plays later.

The sides traded touchdowns from there. Southeast took an 8-7 lead, then Moore ripped off a 43-yard run to put the Cards back up 14-8. The Trojans regained a 16-14 lead, only for Mason Alderice to run eight yards on the first play of the second quarter to put Hoisington ahead 21-16.

The Cardinals caught their big break when Moore intercepted a Daniel Kejr pass on the next Southeast drive. Then Moore broke another big run at 38 yards to set up Kraft for a 1-yard touchdown run. Hoisington's lead grew to 28-16 with 9:31 to play in the first half.

The teams continued to trade scores. Cardinal sophomore Carson Mason held on to a 17-yard pass from Moore just long enough for it to count as a score. Hoisington led 35-28 at the half.

Taking the ball to open the third quarter, Moore found Alderice for a 40-yard pass play. Moore punched it in from three yards out on the next play to bump the lead back to 14 at 42-28.

The Trojans were hanging around at 42-36 when junior Jason Robinson scored from a yard out. Robinson intercepted a Kejr pass to halt the next Trojan drive, but the Cards were forced to punt the ball away for the first and only time all evening.

Southeast managed just 99 yards on the ground. Kejr threw for 392 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. His final touchdown put the Trojans within a possession at 49-42 with 4:49 remaining.

The Cardinals found themselves in further trouble facing third-and-14 late in the contest. Moore and Kraft again provided the heroics with a 17-yard screen play for a first down. Hoisington was able to run out the clock and hang on for the win.

Moore completed seven of his 10 pass tries on the night for 158 yards and a touchdown. He rushed for another 130 yards and two scores on 13 carries. Kraft added 156 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns on 31 carries. Alderice caught two passes for 68 yards and also ran the ball four times for 36 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Mason Martin caught two passes for 35 yards. 

Southeast of Saline ends its season at 10-1. Hoisington moves to 11-0 heading into Friday's game at 11-0 Norton. The Cardinals are 59-10 over the last six seasons. Hoisington was 12-0 before a loss in the state finals in 2020, and the Cards were 11-0 before a heartbreaking 10-8 loss at Norton in 2019.

"I think it's a bunch of guys who are willing to work hard," said Baird. "We've been lucky enough to have that over the years. This group is no different. They should be really proud of what they've accomplished."

A standout athlete in two sports, Great Bend senior Macy Nachtigal has committed to continue her volleyball career at Barton Community College next year.&nbsp;

Nachtigal was part of the strong back row that helped the Lady Panther volleyball team reach a school-record 31 wins this season. Her 363 digs were 54 more than any other player on the team. She also led the team with 338 serve receives.

As a junior last spring, Nachtigal ranked No. 16 in all of Kansas in the javelin. She finished seventh at the state track meet.

Macy is the daughter of Dave and Misty Nachtigal.

Kansas State tries to beat Baylor at home for first time since 2017 season on Saturday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs have every reason to be enjoying their weekend off, whether that means Patrick Mahomes watching the Dallas Mavericks from courtside seats or Travis Kelce jetting to Argentina to watch Taylor Swift resume her Eras Tour.

After all, the defending Super Bowl champions are tied atop the AFC with the Baltimore Ravens. They are coming off a win over the championship-contending Miami Dolphins in Frankfurt, Germany.

And perhaps most importantly, they have done all of that over the first half of the season despite an offense that, for once, has been more fizzle than sizzle.

“It's very fixable. There's not panic. It's there for us to understand,” said Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, who returned to the role when Eric Bieniemy left in the offseason for the Washington Commanders. “We know we can be better. It is going back to the drawing board, seeing where we went wrong, not placing blame but also accepting that we have to be better.”

Imagine that: the Chiefs (7-2) needing to get better on offense rather than defense.

They've only scored more than 27 points twice, and that came against the Chargers and the hapless Chicago Bears, while what has traditionally been a high-scoring offense has been held under 20 points on three occasions. Twice those lousy performances came against the Denver Broncos, including a 19-8 loss a couple of weeks ago that snapped a 16-game series win streak.

Ever since Mahomes took over at quarterback in 2018, the Chiefs have been sixth or better in scoring and total offense. Yet they are 12th in scoring this season — thanks largely to 41 points scored against Chicago — and seventh in total offense.

Still good. But far from their usual greatness.

One of the biggest problems has been inconsistency, whether that means penalties at inopportune times, an inability to convert red-zone trips into points, or something as simple as wide receivers dropping passes that should have been caught.

“We’ve got some good things we’re doing,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said, “putting up a lot of yards and so on. But getting into the endzone becomes important. Not turning the ball over. Basic fundamentals. We’ve got to take care of that.”

Their game against Miami last weekend was a perfect example.

For the first two quarters, the Chiefs looked downright unstoppable on offense. They breezed downfield on the game's opening drive, needing just seven plays and 2:57 on the clock to reach the end zone. And they added two more touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 21-0 lead over the Dolphins — currently the league's No. 1 offense — into the locker room.

They failed to score at all in the second half, the Chiefs forced to ride their defense with white knuckles to a 21-14 victory.

“I think you can see it in spurts,” Mahomes said. “You look at the first drive, the 90-yard drive we had — you can see what we can do. It is just about being consistent every single drive. Obviously penalties, me not connecting on guys deep down the field, hurt us. Luckily for us, our defense is playing their tail off and we got the win.”

They have been good enough to help the Chiefs win two Lombardi Trophies over the past four seasons, but rarely have they been excellent. In fact, in six seasons since Mahomes became the starter, they have never been in the top 10 in total defense, and one year they were the second-worst team in the league. Never have they been better than seventh in points allowed, either.

This year? They are second in the league in scoring defense and fourth in total defense.

“I knew they were going to be good," Mahomes said. “You look at the end of last year, they played some great football and no one really noticed. I knew they were going to be good. They brought back so many people — so many young guys that they were going to develop. I mean, the fact they’re all developing this fast, I don’t know if anyone could have guessed it. Pohto's 16 lead Wichita State past Western Kentucky 71-61

Led by Kenny Pohto's 16 points, the Wichita State Shockers defeated
the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers 71-61 on Thursday night. The
Shockers are now 2-0 with the win and the Hilltoppers fell to 1-1.

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) —
Skylar Vann scored 24 points, Sahara Williams had a double-double and
Oklahoma upended No. 12 Mississippi 80-70. The Sooners took charge by
scoring the last six points of the third quarter and the first four
of the fourth for a 66-57 lead. Ole Miss got within five but the
Sooners pulled away again. Vann hit a 3-pointer and followed it up
with a three-point play on the next possession before her layup made
it 80-66 with 1:43 to play. Williams had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Snudda Collins had 15 points as the Rebels put five players in double
figures.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)
— Caitlin Clark had 44 points, eight rebounds and six assists, and
No. 3 Iowa pulled away late from eighth-ranked Virginia Tech en route
to an 80-76 victory in a neutral site game. The Associated Press
player of the year in 2023 showed off her full arsenal, hurting the
Hokies with step-back 3-pointers, driving one-handed scoop layups,
turnaround jumpers and nifty passes to escape double teams. Clark
finished just shy of her career best of 46 points against Michigan in
2022. The Hawkeyes overcame a big game from Georgia Amoore, who had
31 points on seven 3-pointers for the Hokies (1-1). Two-time ACC
player of the year Elizabeth Kitley had 16 points and 16 rebounds for

CHICAGO (AP) —
D’Onta Foreman ran for a touchdown and the Chicago Bears boosted
their shot at the top pick in the draft, beating the Carolina
Panthers 16-13 on Thursday night. The Bears (3-7) also boosted their
chances at the No. 1 pick because they have Carolina’s
first-rounder in 2024. They acquired the pick along with Moore last
March for the top selection this year. The Panthers (1-8) are tied
with Arizona — which plays Atlanta on Sunday — for the worst
record in the NFL. Foreman gave the Bears a 16-10 lead in the third
quarter with a 4-yard run. Chicago was clinging to a three-point lead
with 1:40 remaining when Carolina’s Eddy Pineiro attempted a
59-yard field goal. The ball landed well short.

includes Boston's John Henry and the New York Yankees' Hal
Steinbrenner. The boxes contain green A's caps, baseball cards
featuring the owners' likenesses and a note detailing why they should

(AP) — Alex Noren has been working hard on his wedge game and
Bermuda was the ideal spot for that. Port Royal had no wind and Noren
had no problem. He set the tournament record with 11 birdies. It gave
him a 61 for a two-shot lead in the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
That's his best PGA Tour round by two shots. Adam Long had a 66 and
earned a spot in the record book. He hit his first 11 fairways. That
gave him 69 in a row dating to Las Vegas to set the PGA Tour record.
