John Francis Yanda, 67, passed away December 5, 2020, at Select Specialty Hospital, Kansas City, Kan.  He was born January 29, 1953, in Quinter, to Theodore and Lugarda (Ziegler) Yanda.  John married Elaine Marie Wondra June 3, 1972, in Odin.  Elaine survives. 

A long-time resident of Hoisington, John most recently worked at Walmart, retiring in 2015, previously working at Town and Country Supermarket and Suburban Laundry.  He was a past member of the Hoisington City Council, member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and was a Third and Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1521, serving as past financial secretary and past and current Grand Knight.  John enjoyed hunting, fishing, puzzles, traveling, especially cruising; and above all spending time with his family and supporting every grandchild’s event.  His volunteerism was displayed through his donation of time to the Red Cross Blood Drives and Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine of the home; two daughters, Jennifer Michaelis and husband Marty of Hoisington and Melissa Davis and husband Mike of Hoisington; six grandchildren, Owen Michaelis, Evan Michaelis, Cameron Yanda, Aaron Yanda, Daegan Davis and Danielle Davis; one brother, Joseph Yanda and wife Jeannie of Ellis; and one sister, Leatte Bandy and husband Bruce of Colby.  John was preceded in passing by his parents; one son, Brian Yanda; and one grandson, Connor Mitchell.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, with Father Anselm Eke, MSP, presiding.  Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery, Hoisington.  Visitation will be Noon until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 p.m., all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.  Memorials may be given to the Clara Barton Hospital Foundation or St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church or Knights of Columbus Council 1521, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, PO Box 146, Hoisington, KS  67544.
