Carl R. Munoz, 77, died October 20, 2021, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. He was born February 21, 1944, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Frank and Katherine (Pyles) Munoz. Carl graduated from Great Bend High School and then received his degree in drafting from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kansas.

On September 10, 1966, he married Virginia Kay Courange in Hoisington, Kansas. She preceded him in death on August 26, 2018.

Carl worked in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning business and also as a tin bender for Hickey Sheet Metal. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene of Hoisington. Carl enjoyed biking, bending metal, his dogs, and especially spending time with his granddaughter, Taylor and his great-grandchildren.

He is survived by a son, Bryan Munoz of Russell; a daughter, Karla Bard and husband Paul of Clackamas, Oregon; four grandchildren, Taylor Munoz, Kaylie Boley, Emmilie McInnis, and Airiana Bard; and three great-grandchildren, Blake McInnis, Kallum Allen, and Willow Munoz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a brother, Dennis Munoz.

Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Don Fisher presiding. Burial will follow in Hoisington Cemetery.

Norma L. Smith, 88, passed away October 20, 2021, at her home in Hoisington, Kansas. She was born February 15, 1933, at Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter of George L. and Frances U. (Koelsch) Whitsel, Sr. Norma was a 1954 graduate of Great Bend High School.

On June 2, 1956, she married Morgan D. Smith at Great Bend, Kansas. He survives.

Mrs. Smith was a long-time Hoisington resident. She worked as a retail sales associate for Montgomery Ward in Great Bend and was the secretary for their oil well service, Smith Acid Co. Norma was a former member of the First Christian Church of Great Bend and the Extension Home Unit. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing stuffed animals for her kids, and will be remembered for her creative imagination in making up games and her homemade Halloween costumes.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Morgan Smith of the home; five children, Michael D. (Debbie) Smith of Hoisington, Randall D. Smith of Fort Worth, TX, Sabrina (Oscar) Mariño of Lawrence, Sonya (Wayde) Brozek of Wamego, and Kevin (Jennifer) Smith of Lee's Summit, MO; a sister, Dora Jean Gregory of Great Bend, KS; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, George Whitsel, Jr., Melvin Whitsel, Franklin Whitsel; and five sisters, Meda Rankin, Edna Whitsel, Susie Suchy, Lillian Claphan, Josephine "Jody" Young.

GREAT BEND - John Alan Reiling, 55, passed away on October 18, 2021, at his home in Great Bend. He was born on July 27, 1966, to Harold and Elsie (Weeks) Reiling. John married Nancy Slattery on April 13, 1995, in Dodge City. She survives.

John was a resident of Great Bend, moving from Dodge City in 2006. Previously an engineer for the Dodge City Fire Department, he worked as Warehouse Manager at Clarke Well and Equipment in Great Bend prior to his retirement. He enjoyed rock ’n roll music, loved his pets, playing chess, the Denver Broncos, and teaching his children how to drive, change a tire, balance a checkbook, and many other things needed to be a successful adult. John was constantly creating new dishes for his family and his talents never ceased.

Survivors include wife, Nancy Slattery, of the home; one son, Blake (Tracy) Reiling of Kinsley; daughters, Branagan Reiling of Kinsley, Megan Hinderliter of Dodge City, and Tandy (Jason) Boese of Great Bend; and eight grandchildren, Tiara Bollig, Alexis Hinderliter, Rylan Michael, Declan Zink, Ashtyn Reiling, Kasey Boese, Ronnie Boese, and Chelsea Boese. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Reva L. Leech, 78, passed away October 19, 2021, at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. She was born on April 7, 1943, at Aline, Okla. to Loren &amp; Vona (Haight) Sacket. She was raised by her father and stepmother, Loren and Dale Sacket. She married Morris F. Leech, Jr. on May 19, 1963, at Alva, Oklahoma. He died May 20, 2019.

A longtime Great Bend resident, Reva was a homemaker. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Stafford. She especially loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include two sons, Tyler Leech and Todd Leech, both of Great Bend; two daughters, Connie Daniels of Montrose, Colo. and Christy Leech of Great Bend; two brothers, Richard Sacket and Wayne Sacket, both of Okla.; fifteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Morris Leech, Jr.; two sons, Toby J. Leech and Terry Leech; and two daughters, Cindy Leech and Carla Leech.

Ricky Meier, 62, passed away at Newton Medical Center on Oct. 18th, 2021.

Born in Ellinwood, KS on Feb. 14, 1959 he was the son of Lowell "Red" &amp; Carolin Sue Redding Meier. He was a lifetime Barton Co. resident who traveled the country as a truck driver. Ricky always has been a cowboy at heart even taking on a few bull rides in his earlier years.

Survivors include father, Lowell "Red" Meier; sister, Cheryl (Carl) Isern and her children Christopher (Morgan) Isern, Caylee Isern, Cody (Anna) Isern; and sister, Christy Landis and her children Byron (Betsy) Landis, Courtney Landis (Samantha), and his little buddy Cooper Turley.&nbsp; Ricky was preceded in death by his mother, Carolin Sue Meier and brother, Byron Meier.

Pammie Rose Shank, 58, passed away October 18, 2021 at her home in Larned.

She was born February 7, 1963 in Aransas Pass, TX, the daughter of Clinton Harold and Iona “Betty” Bethine Norris Lauber. A longtime area resident, she was the Assistant Cashier for 32 years at the Fusion Bank (First State Bank) in Larned.

She was a member of the Larned Area Chamber Ambassadors and a past member of the Jaycees Club. She enjoyed fishing, hunting and loved to travel.

On May 1, 1989, she married Jan Arlyn Shank in Las Vegas, N.V. He survives.

Other survivors include brother, David (Martha) Lauber, Cheney, WA; sister, Tammie (Jimmy) McClaren, Kinsley; two nieces, Kaitlyn (Joby) Reisenauer and their children, Quintin and Tobin, Mackenzie (Cory) Dilport and their daughter, Ember and a nephew, Cole (Kristin) McClaren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert and Terry Lauber and a sister, Sandra Davis.

Howard Edward “Ed” Hitz, Jr., kicked the bucket on October 15, 2021, at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. He was born on August 19, 1948, in Great Bend, the son of Howard Edward Hitz, Sr. and Anna Marie (Schommer) Hitz. He married Pamela (Weigel) Walters on September 15, 1993, at Great Bend.

Ed graduated from Great Bend High School in 1967. He was an HVAC service tech by trade. He was an outdoorsman, who loved hunting, farming, and raising horses, having raised American Quarter Horses for over 40 years. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, American Quarter Horse Association, Ducks Unlimited and the NRA.

Survivors include his wife Pam Hitz of the home; a son, Jarred (Rachel) Hitz and grandson Drake of Inman; a daughter Jennifer Pozzuolo of DeSoto; a stepdaughter, Jessica Walters and grandson Oren of Great Bend; and two sisters, Imogene Hitz and Lottie (Mark) Marney, both of Wichita; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved silver lab, Stormy. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Irene Sue Erichsen.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

Coming from Ellinwood in 1964, Ralph was a Great Bend resident. He was a truck driver for Fed Ex Freight, formerly known as American Freight Ways and Arkansas Freight Ways. He was a United States Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Yahne of Olmitz and William Yahne of Great Bend; a daughter, Nanette Yahne of Colony, Tex.; one grandson, Brian Keen; and two great-grandchildren, Shawn Keen and Landon Keen. Ralph G. Jacobs, 92, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing Bed, La Crosse, Kansas.

Ralph was born April 18, 1929, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Casper and Mary Elizabeth (Schmidt) Jacobs.&nbsp; He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas.&nbsp; Ralph attended grade school at Lone Star School, District 64, Bison, Kansas, before attending Bison Rural High School, Bison, Kansas.&nbsp; He farmed with his father until 1970, after which he worked maintaining tracks for the Santa Fe Railroad.&nbsp; He also owned and operated Jacobs Lawn Care, La Crosse, Kansas, before his retirement from his lawn care business at the age of 91.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus Council 2970, both of La Crosse, Kansas.

On October 15, 1983, he married Barbara A. Barnett at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on November 13, 2018.

Survivors include three stepdaughters, Jacque Blair (Roger), Scott City, Kansas, Mary Ann Willems (Neil), Tabernash, Colorado, and Linda Riedel (Don), La Crosse, Kansas; seven step-grandchildren, Amber Russell (Brian), Chad Tylicki (Mandi), Paul Willems, Stephanie Blair, Shannon Bennett (Casey), Aaron Riedel (Sarah), and Jordon Riedel; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leroy Jacobs, La Crosse, Kansas, and Jerry Jacobs, Hays, Kansas; and one sister, Mary Lou Warren, Wichita, Kansas.

Karen K. (Koochel) Axman 79, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2021, at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center at Via Christi, St Francis, Wichita KS. She was born November 20, 1941 at St. Rose Hospital, Great Bend KS, daughter to Elwyn and Florine (Urban) Koochel. Karen grew up on the family farm North West of Albert. She attended Walnut View Grade School, the Prep School of the Dominican Sisters of Great Bend and graduated from Otis Bison High School. She married Anthony L. Axman on August 21, 1961.

Karen was a resident of Great Bend until 1983, she then moved to the Axman farm North of Olmitz. Tony and Karen resided there for 30 years before moving back to Great Bend to care for Karen’s mother. She was a homemaker until all of her 4 children were in school. She then began a 36-year-long career working with her husband in their computer processing/programming business, Sonrise Software.

Karen was an extremely giving person. She was co-founder of Birthright in Great Bend. For many years she traveled the state of Kansas advocating for the value and rights of the unborn child. She also took into her home and assisted a number of unwed expectant mothers. She enjoyed her prayer time, crocheting, crossword puzzles, playing card games with family and friends and whipping up new recipes. She had terrific cooking and baking skills.

Karen K. (Koochel) Axman

Carlene Landis passed into her loving Savior’s arms on Wednesday, October 6th, 2021. Her family and friends were blessed to have Carlene's love and support for 72 years. Although heartbroken, her family rejoices in knowing she is at peace in her heavenly home. Carlene was the beloved daughter of Leonard and Esther (Mai) Stettinger who preceded her in death, along with a precious infant daughter, Lori Landis. Carlene is survived by her husband Larry Landis of 54 years, her sons Chris (Missy) of Olathe, KS, Chad (Carolynn) of Severna Park, MD, and her 4 cherished grandchildren, Christine, Iain, Jeffrey, and Grace. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Linda Dodson (Arnel) of Olathe, KS and her brother, John Stettinger (Sherry) of Great Bend, KS as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews. Carlene's passions centered on family, faith, and treasured moments including time at the beach or traveling with her husband and friends. She enjoyed volunteering at church on the praise &amp; worship team and the children's ministry. In her professional life, Carlene worked for over 20 years in the healthcare field serving others in the medical laboratory at Halstead Hospital and Lancaster General Hospital. Carlene’s deep abiding faith sustained her during two battles with breast cancer (2000 &amp; 2018). Both times, she was healed, God is good!!! Continuing the fight against cancer, the family plans on walking in their 22nd year of Relay For Life and driving cancer patients to their treatments (Road to Recovery). Family and friends are invited to celebrate Carlene's life at a memorial service on October 23rd, 2 PM at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Her family and friends were blessed to have Carlene's love and support for 72 years. Although heartbroken, her family rejoices in knowing she is at peace in her heavenly home. Carlene was the beloved daughter of Leonard and Esther (Mai) Stettinger who preceded her in death, along with a precious infant daughter, Lori Landis. Carlene is survived by her husband Larry Landis of 54 years, her sons Chris (Missy) of Olathe, KS, Chad (Carolynn) of Severna Park, MD, and her 4 cherished grandchildren, Christine, Iain, Jeffrey, and Grace. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Linda Dodson (Arnel) of Olathe, KS and her brother, John Stettinger (Sherry) of Great Bend, KS as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews. Carlene's passions centered on family, faith, and treasured moments including time at the beach or traveling with her husband and friends. She enjoyed volunteering at church on the praise &amp; worship team and the children's ministry. In her professional life, Carlene worked for over 20 years in the healthcare field serving others in the medical laboratory at Halstead Hospital and Lancaster General Hospital. Carlene’s deep abiding faith sustained her during two battles with breast cancer (2000 &amp; 2018). Both times, she was healed, God is good!!! Continuing the fight against cancer, the family plans on walking in their 22nd year of Relay For Life and driving cancer patients to their treatments (Road to Recovery). Family and friends are invited to celebrate Carlene's life at a memorial service on October 23rd, 2 PM at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Her remains will be interred at the family plot in Hoisington Cemetery. GREAT BEND – Gilbert “Gil” Francis Sander, 92, went to meet his Lord, October 15, 2021, passing away at Country Place Senior Living in Hoisington. He was born May 2, 1929, in Victoria, Kansas, to Frank and Agnes (Dinkel) Sander. On June 14, 1949, he married Kathleen Mae “Kay” Rajewski at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Vincent, Ks. They lived in Victoria, Salina, Hays and Plainville before settling in Great Bend in 1955. Kay passed away December 13, 2018.

Gilbert began working on the family farm then on to Royal Crown Cola, O’Neil Tank Service &amp; L.T. Shaffer. In 1957 he dedicated 34 years to Davis Mud and Chemical as a truck driver, warehouse manager and a sales representative where he was dubbed the “Mud God”. He also worked as an Account Representative for Unibar Energy Services and TD Mud Inc. Gilbert was dedicated to his Lord and Saviour and was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He made over 1,000 rosaries in his lifetime for family, friends and the missions. As a family, they loved traveling and took many road trips when the children were young. In later years, Gil and Kay enjoyed many international trips.

Survivors include four children, Debbie Ann Sander Walker of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, Glen (Becky) of Great Bend, Mark (Vicki) of Gulfport, Mississippi, and Kirk (Joan) of Great Bend; eight grandchildren, Debbie’s son, Cameron Andreas Sander Walker (Patricia) of Oakville, Ontario, Canada, Glen’s children, Andrea (Joe) Babb of Wichita, Mathew of Wichita and Tyler (Elizabeth) of Great Bend, Bert’s daughter, Stephanie Hamm, Kirk’s daughters, Monica (Tony) Kruse of Wichita, Nicole (Justin) Tracy of Brownwood, Texas and Brandi Sander of Great Bend. Gilbert “Gil” Francis Sander

Lucille (Dolechek) Driscoll was born on the farm in the Beaver – Dubuque area on Oct. 21, 1926. She was the oldest child of the late Veat and Monica Dolechek. She grew up in a loving family with her grandparents, parents, and siblings; Elvita (Beran) and Vincent.

She attended District 64 Grade School and graduated from Claflin High School. After graduation, she went to Brown Mackie School of Business in Salina. In June 1945, Lucille took the train to Kansas City to start her first job with Hallmark. This is where she fell in love with Kansas City. After a wonderful and fun time in the city, she returned home to the Beaver area. She then married and welcomed her daughter Jane (Driscoll) Schreiber. She enjoyed fishing, going to the lake, and spending time with her mother and Jane. Lucille or ‘Lucy’ who many of her customers referred to her as, had a successful banking career at Farmers National Bank in Beaver, KS. She held several roles and retired after 36 years as an Executive Vice-President.

After retiring Lucille spent the next 29 years living a great life on the farm, traveling, enjoying time with family and friends, and watching her great-grandkids play. The qualities her family remembers her most for are her incredible memory, storytelling, independence, and always being on the go. She was a loving daughter, sister, mom, grandma, granny, aunt, and friend.

Lucille was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society of Odin, Daughters of Isabella Circle #744, and Christian Mothers of Dubuque.

She will be missed and survived by her daughter Jane (Rick) Schreiber, grandkids: Aaron (Jen), Paul (Melanie), and Julee (Bret) and her great-grandchildren: Joel, Callie, Abbie, Josie, Logan, Camden, Cole and Chase. Siblings: Elvita Beran, Vincent (Alice) Dolechek and her nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A Vigil and Rosary service will begin at 7 p.m., at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 18, 2021, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Odin, Kansas, celebrated by Father Terrance Klein. Burial will follow in St. Catherine Cemetery, Dubuque, Kansas.

Debra Dorene Rumage, 63, passed away October 7, 2021, at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Mo. She was born on July 3, 1958 at Great Bend, to Robert and Mona Maxine (Puckett) Oller.

A resident of Springfield since 2012, Debra was a former resident of Great Bend. She worked in-home health care for many years. Debra enjoyed gardening and loved animals. She especially loved to spend time with her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Amy Pentecost and husband (Ron Whitlow) of Stafford, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Jeffrey Peterson and Mishika Pentecost. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, George Oller.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will be held at the Great Bend Cemetery at a later date.

Francis B. Schaffer was born on September 27, 1928, in his family’s farmhouse near Loretto, KS, on a farm that he loved to visit on his subsequent birthdays. He left us on Saturday, October 9, just two weeks after a family celebration of his 93rd birthday. His wife of 71 years Alverna was by his side when he took his last breath on this side of heaven. She survives.

Francis&nbsp;was born to Frank and Barbara (Urban) Schaffer and he&nbsp;was a lifelong farmer,&nbsp;carpenter, welder,&nbsp;inventor,&nbsp;intuitive engineer, comedian/jokester, and a boisterous connoisseur of polka music and good beer.

Francis grew up on the family farm at Loretto and learned his many "Jack-of-all-trades" skills from his father.&nbsp; He attended grade school and graduated high school from Bison, KS.&nbsp;He met his wife Alverna at a dance, which was to be a lifelong passion for both of them.&nbsp; Francis was a devout Catholic and was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.&nbsp;

Farming in Lane County, Francis and Alverna raised six children, wheat and Angus cattle.&nbsp; During these years, they also avidly pursued their dancing pleasure following several favorite bands in Nebraska and beginning what is probably the greatest polka music library ever collected, including LP records, 8-tracks, cassettes and CDs!&nbsp; After 25 years, they retired from the farm and moved to Garden City, KS, where Francis was often the Top Salesman at Burtis Motor Company. In 1984 Francis and Alverna decided to follow several of their siblings to Round Rock, Texas, where Francis and his brother Raymond began "The Handy Pair" business, doing odd jobs during the construction boom that was happening in Austin at that time. &nbsp;If Raymond could not join Francis on the job, Alverna was the other half of the Handy Pair!&nbsp;

In 1991 Kansas was calling them back and they returned to their roots, landing in La Crosse, KS, where they have been living ever since.&nbsp; Francis loved being back in Rush County where he and Alverna began collecting family history.&nbsp; Being bilingual, they were able to interview many to seek the history of their German heritage. Never one to "retire", Francis also worked in La Crosse, with Leland Bisterfeldt doing his handy work for many years.

Francis was preceded in death by an infant sister, Eleanor, his parents, Frank and Barbara, a sister, Mary (Schaffer) Jones, two brothers, Clarence and John Schaffer, grandson, Trevor Messenger, and son-in-law, Van Brighton. &nbsp;He leaves behind his wife, Alverna, children, Jan Brighton of La Crosse, KS, Colette (Burton) Schauf of Columbia, MO, Jill (Mike) Bogard of Lawrence, KS, Rory (Janis) Schaffer of Topeka, KS, Eric Schaffer of Topeka, KS, and Gina (Warren) Cannon of Georgetown, TX, eighteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and one brother, Raymond Schaffer of La Crosse, KS.&nbsp;

The family will greet friends on Sunday, October 17, from 3-7 p.m. at St Michael’s Catholic Church in La Crosse, KS. The Knights of Columbus will lead the rosary at 4 pm. The polka mass celebration of life at St. Michael’s will be held at 10:30 on Monday morning, followed by inurnment at the La Crosse City Cemetery.&nbsp;

Randall “Randy” Lee Clark, 51, passed away on October 10, 2021 at Denver Health, Denver, Colo. He was born on February 18, 1970, to Don &amp; Lucille (Philbern) Clark. Randy married Cynthia McIntosh on June 12, 2004, in Great Bend, Kansas. She survives.

A lifetime resident of Great Bend, Randy was the business owner of RC Computers. He was a member of Encounter Church. Randy enjoyed flying drones, camping, fishing, instrumental music, and cryptocurrency.

Survivors include Cynthia Clark, of the home; his mother, Lucille Clark; son, Seth Burress and fiance Lydia Berger of Great Bend, KS; a daughter, Sharon Burress and partner Daniel Rodriguez of Hoisington, KS; sisters, Pam Thomas of Wichita, KS, Kristi Clark of Great Bend, KS; brothers, Scott (Lupe) Clark of Houston, TX, Rick Clark of Pratt, KS; and grandchildren, Leah Sullivan, Lance Sullivan, Lilly Sullivan. He is preceded in death by his father.

Randall “Randy” Lee Clark

James R. Lofland, 95 passed away July 24, 2021, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born April 7, 1926, in Stafford, KS, the son of James P. &amp; Leah (Keesling) Lofland. On June 18, 1949, he married Joyce L. Mohr in Wichita. She died October 5, 2019.

James lived most of his life in Great Bend. He worked for American Electric until he retired in 1986. He was also self-employed with Jim’s Lawn Service and continued working his business into his 80’s. James was an active member and trustee of Central Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion Post #180. He always had a story to tell and anyone who met him most likely heard one or two of them. James was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during WWII.

James is survived by his children, Janna Huschka and husband Kurt of Hutchinson, Jill Hopper and husband Derrel of Arvada, Colo., Jerry Lofland and wife Paige of Great Bend, and Jackie Goosen and husband LoWayne of Freeman, SD; his sisters, Darlene Unruh of Houston, Tex., and Mayme DuBois of Oberlin; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his parents; his children, James Lofland and Julia Barnes; his brother, Arthur Lofland; and his sisters, Pauline Crowley, Alice Biskeborn, Letha Luther and Elise Hiss.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the Great Bend Cemetery, with Pastor Tim Singleton presiding. Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Memorial Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

He was born April 7, 1926, in Stafford, KS, the son of James P. &amp; Leah (Keesling) Lofland. On June 18, 1949, he married Joyce L. Mohr in Wichita. She died October 5, 2019.James lived most of his life in Great Bend. He worked for American Electric until he retired in 1986. He was also self-employed with Jim’s Lawn Service and continued working his business into his 80’s. James was an active member and trustee of Central Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion Post #180. He always had a story to tell and anyone who met him most likely heard one or two of them. James R. Lofland

Carma Jean Tinkel, 68, passed away peacefully May 18, 2021, at the University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus. She was born November 13, 1952, to Emil and Alverta (Steinert) Juergensen. On November 29, 1975, Carma was united in marriage to Darrell Tinkel in Great Bend.

As a lifetime resident of Great Bend, Carma was a clerical assistant for Thurman Morrison and Associates and CPI. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Carma was a bright smile and a true joy to be around! She enjoyed traveling, being with her siblings, stock car racing, making new friends and most of all spending time with her two grandsons, Korbin and Krew.

Survivors include her husband, Darrell Tinkel of the home; a son, Randy Tinkel and wife Jillian of Wamego, Kan.; two grandchildren, Korbin and Krew; two brothers, Fred Juergensen and wife Darla of Gower, Mo., and Louis Juergensen and wife Karen of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Marilyn Keller of San Antonio, Texas, and Vera Bortolotti of Council Bluffs, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Beverly Juergensen of Great Bend, Judy Rabenseifner of Great Bend and Sheryl Richardson of Great Bend; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, David Juergensen and Lyle Juergensen; and two brothers-in-law, Marion Keller and Louie Bortolotti.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00 p.m., Friday, October 22, 2021, at the Best Western Courtyard. A private family inurnment will be held in the Great Bend Cemetery.
