Mary “Evelyn” Van Steenburgh, 83, died November 2, 2021, at her home in Hoisington, Kansas. She was born May 8, 1938, in Big Spring, Texas, the daughter of W.E. “Bill” and Lena E. (Wallace) Hanson.

Evelyn graduated from Big Spring High School. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide and later as a secretary for the Howard County Clerks Office.

In July of 1975, she married Fred Van Steenburgh. He survives.

Other survivors include son, Marlon Hale (Jill) of Midland, Texas; four grandchildren, Aletha Garland (Allen), Amanda Dennis (Geoff), Athena Miller (Jeff), Billy Paul Herl; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Billy Marvin Hanson, and a daughter, Sheri Quiroga.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m., Monday, November 8, 2021, at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Big Spring, Texas. Friends may sign the book at the funeral home.
