enabled the Royals to beat the Baltimore Orioles 11-6. Bobby Witt Jr.

Vinnie Pasquantino followed with drive into the right-field seats.
Jonathan India, Luke Maile and Michael Massey also went deep for the

homer and later hit a tiebreaking double, leading the St. Louis

center. Scott ran back to the wall and leaped, and his glove was over
the fence when he snatched the ball, preventing it from landing on

WASHINGTON (AP) — The 2027 NFL draft is heading to the nation’s
capital, a person familiar with the details told The Associated Press
on Sunday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because
President Trump is set to make the announcement on Monday at the
White House. Washington hosting the draft two years from now is the
latest off-field victory for the Commanders, a week since they
reached an agreement with the D.C. government to build a stadium on
the old RFK site. That is still pending council approval.

Indiana Pacers, who stunned the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers

finished with 22 points and 13 assists, and he also made key plays on
the defensive end, blocking a 3-point attempt by Max Strus with 2:12
left and converting it into a layup for a 10-point lead. Andrew
Nembhard added 23 points and made five 3-pointers for the Pacers, who
finished 19 of 36 beyond the arc. Donovan Mitchell led Cleveland with

into the second overtime and the Winnipeg Jets rallied to beat the

for his fourth win through six races this season. Piastri has now won
three consecutive F1 races for McLaren Racing, where he and teammate

Verstappen of Red Bull. Piastri is the first McLaren driver to win
three consecutive F1 races in 28 years. Mika Hakkinen did it with a

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Sovereignty’s Kentucky Derby victory in
the muck at Churchill Downs sparked curiosity over whether the colt
can build on his signature win over a possibly drier, faster surface
on the Triple Crown trail. The question now is whether that test will
come sooner or later. Trainer Bill Mott initially seemed inclined to
bypass the Preakness on May 17 in Baltimore for the Belmont next
month but will decide this week. Trainers for other Derby horses face
similar decisions after a muddy race that was new for many
competitors.

Making his 100th career start, Kansas City's Michael Lorenzen surrendered a career-high four home runs and was pulled in the fifth. The four HRs equaled the total he gave up in his previous six starts this season.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Kris Bubic made it through five innings despite an early rain delay, and the Kansas City Royals hit three solo homers in a 4-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night.

Cavan Biggio, Kyle Isbel and Vinnie Pasquantino went deep for Kansas City, which has won 10 of its last 12. The Royals have pitched four shutouts in their last eight games.

The game was delayed 57 minutes because of a thunderstorm after the first inning. Both starters stayed in the game anyway. Bubic (3-2) allowed four hits before three Royals relievers closed out the game.

Tomoyuki Sugano (3-2) permitted two runs and four hits in six innings.

Jonathan India led off the fourth with a double and eventually came home on Maikel Garcia's two-out single. Biggio's drive — his first homer of the year — made it 2-0 the following inning. Isbel and Pasquantino went deep in the eighth off Seranthony Domínguez.

Garcia had three hits, as did Baltimore's Gunnar Henderson.

The Orioles only had one runner reach scoring position, and that was in the first with one out. Bubic then struck out Ryan Mountcastle and retired Ryan O'Hearn on a flyout.

The Orioles fell to 2-9 in games against left-handed starters this season. They're batting a major league-worst .174 against southpaws, a number that actually improved when they went 5 for 25 against Bubic and reliever Daniel Lynch IV on Saturday. Lynch worked two innings.

Featuring some of the nation's top NJCAA golfers and five teams ranked inside the Top-20, the No. 30 Barton Community College men's golf team finished tied for fifth on Tuesday afternoon at the Central District Championships held over two days at Tiffany Greens Golf Club in Kansas City, Mo.

The Cougars began Monday's 36-holes with a team 307 and 303 for a fifth best 610 before slipping into a tie for the spot following a final round of 312 to finish at 58-over 922 for the tournament in being joined by No. 17 Iowa Western Community College.

Falling four strokes back behind fourth place and No. 12 ranked Dodge City's 52-over 916 for the District's final top four automatic national qualifying bid, Barton will now play the waiting game of possibly receiving one of the eight at-large national wild cards announced Friday afternoon.

Jayhawk Conference foe and No. 10 ranked Garden City Community College led the nine-team field with a 22-over 886 while No. 4 Indian Hills Community College fell in the runner-up slot falling seven strokes back at 893 and No. 3 ranked Hutchinson Community College rounding out the top-three placings with a 34-over 898.

The sophomore remained consistent over the tournament, carding a 2-over 74 in the opening round before posting a 3-over 75 in the second round to sit in seventh at the conclusion of Day 1.

Lambert concluded his tournament with another 3-over 75 falling one stroke back of a top-8 finish and automatic individual national tournament berth.

Firing off a 6-over 78 in his opening round, Ted Gemzell made a solid climb up the leaderboard in the second round firing off a team tournament best single round 73 for 1-over concluding the day in 14th. Gemzell turned in a final round 4-over 76 moving up a spot up the leaderboard finishing 13th at 11-over 227.

Sitting in 27th at the conclusion of day one after carding a 9-over 81 and 4-over 76, Martin Chevallier made the biggest leap in day two moving up four spots to 23rd overall with a third round five-over 77.

Matteu Cauvin-Piacentini began his opening two rounds posting the 21st best two round 3-over 75 and 7-over 79 but took a tumble down to 32nd at 22-over 238 following a final card 85 for 12-over.

Talon Reynolds rounded out the team entries in 37th at 30-over 246 on 80-82-84 cards.

The 17th ranked Barton Community College women's golf team competed Region 6/Plains District Championships held at the Sky Ranch Golf Course in Sterling, Colorado.

With a temperature change and high wind conditions sweeping through the opening round ballooning scores upward amongst the field, Barton finished the day in 4th place with a 69-over 357. Day two brought calmer and warmer conditions but the Cougars were unable to capitalize in seeing its ten stroke lead evaporate by carding a 63-over 351 in sliding down a spot to the 5th position by one stroke at 132-over 708.

Region 6 member and No. 9 ranked Dodge City won the title at 69-over 645 to win by sixteen strakes over 14th ranked North Idaho's 85-over 661 as 15th ranked Garden City placed 3rd at 96-over 672. Placing 4th to overcome the Cougars, 21st ranked Central Wyoming shaved twenty-five strokes off their opening round to compile a 131-over 707 while 20th ranked Eastern Wyoming rounded out the teams at twenty-one strokes behind Barton with a 153-over 729.

Chomchanok Laparojkit led Barton with a tie for 9th place at 21-over 165, opening with an 81 in tough conditions but dropping four spots with a final round 12-over 84.

Two Cougars finished in a tie for 19th at 36-over 180 of the 24-competitor field, Frida Medellin vaulting five spots up the final round leaderboard following a 22-over 94 with an eight stroke improvement of 14-over 86 while Joellen Vogt stayed consistent with twin 18-over 90 cards.

Diana Alvarado was next on the board in 22nd at 39-over 183 following 20-over 92 and 19-over 91 rounds as Giovanna Tabanag rounded out the Barton entries in the 29th spot at 50-over 194 in carding 26-over 98 and 24-over 96 cards.

For Laparojkit, the freshman will carry the Barton flag for the 14th straight program appearance into the national tournament competing at the NJCAA Division I National Championships held May 12-15 at Garden City's Buffalo Dunes Golf Course.

17th ranked Barton women’s golf finishes 5th in District

BALTIMORE (AP) — Dean Kremer allowed three hits in seven innings, Ryan O'Hearn hit a go-ahead, two-run homer and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Kansas City Royals 3-0 on Friday night for a rare low-scoring victory in their first shutout this season.

Last-place Baltimore improved to 2-16 when scoring three or fewer runs and won back-to-back games for only the second time this year.

Kremer (3-4) and Michael Wacha (1-4) battled for six scoreless innings before Adley Rutschman led off the Baltimore seventh with a double. O'Hearn followed with a drive to left-center field for his sixth home run of the year.

Emmanuel Rivera, playing because infielder Ramón Urías was scratched with right hamstring tightness, added an RBI single later in the inning.

Kansas City lost for just the second time in 11 games. Bobby Witt Jr. went 0 for 4, ending his 22-game hitting streak, as the Royals were blanked for the fourth time.

Yennier Cano pitched the eighth, and Félix Bautista finished the four-hitter for his sixth save in six chances.

Wacha allowed three runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Kansas City turned inning-ending double plays in the first and second, and Kremer got some help in the seventh when shortstop Gunnar Henderson made a nice sliding play on a grounder behind second base.

Royals catcher Salvador Perez did not play because of hip issues. Manager Matt Quatraro said he's day to day.

Kansas City had a man on second with one out in the second when Mark Canha's comebacker bounced off Kremer to the right side of the infield. First baseman Ryan Mountcastle fielded the ball and flipped it to Kremer, who had hustled over to cover.

After the rare 1-3-1 putout, Kremer retired Drew Waters on a grounder to end the threat.

O'Hearn had 131 RBIs in five seasons with Kansas City before being traded to the Orioles for cash before the 2023 season. In two-plus seasons in Baltimore, he's already driven in 132 runs.

Bobby Witt Jr. homered to extend his hitting streak to 22 games and
had three RBIs, Seth Lugo pitched solid six innings and the Kansas
City Royals earned a three-game sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays with an
8-2 victory. Vinnie Pasquantino had a single, a double and two RBIs
for the Royals, who have won nine of their past 10. Lugo gave up two
runs and five hits with five strikeouts.

CINCINNATI (AP) —
Jose Trevino hit a two-run homer off Matthew Liberatore and Spencer
Steer added a solo shot as the Cincinnati Reds defeated the St. Louis
Cardinals 9-1 on Thursday afternoon in a game delayed 1 hour, 37
minutes by rain. Steer's homer, his third of the season, off Riley
O’Brien made the score 5-1 in the sixth. Santiago Espinal’s
two-run single in the seventh pushed the Reds’ lead to 8-1. He went
2-for-4 with two RBIs. Liberatore (2-3) took the loss. Graham
Ashcraft (2-2) earned the win with three perfect innings.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP)
— Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout is headed back to the 10-day
injured list because of a bone bruise in his surgically repaired left
knee. Angels manager Ron Washington made the announcement Thursday
night following a 10-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers. The team said
there is no structural damage to Trout’s knee, but Washington said
the three-time AL MVP needs rest. The oft-injured Trout missed his
first game of the season Thursday night after being removed from
Wednesday’s loss in Seattle with left knee soreness. He got hurt on
a sprint to first base when his left foot hit the bag as he tried to
beat out a third-inning groundout. Trout is hitting .179 this year
with nine home runs and 18 RBIs.

PITTSBURGH (AP) —
A man who fell from the 21-foot-high Clemente Wall in right field at
PNC Park during a game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago
Cubs remains in critical condition. Pittsburgh Public Safety, which
includes Pittsburgh Police and EMS, posted on X says that the
“incident is being treated as accidental in nature.” The man
appeared to fall while celebrating as Pittsburgh star Andrew
McCutchen delivered a go-ahead two-run single. McCutchen said the
team is focusing on the man's health. The fan was tended to for
approximately five minutes by members of both the Pirates and Cubs
training staffs as well as PNC personnel. The Southern Alleghany
School District identified the man as 2022 graduate Kavan Markwood.

DETROIT (AP) —
Jalen Brunson scored 40 points, Mikal Bridges had 25 points and OG
Anunoby added 22 to lead the New York Knicks to a 116-113 win over
the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night and into the second round of
the NBA playoffs. The third-seeded Knicks will face second-seeded
Boston, shooting to advance to the Eastern Conference finals for the
first time since 2000. Detroit’s Cade Cunningham had 23 points,
eight assists and seven rebounds. Cunningham was 0 for 8 on
3-pointers and his backcourt mate Tim Hardaway Jr. was 1 of 6 beyond
the arc and scored seven points.

INGLEWOOD, Calif.
(AP) — James Harden had 28 points and eight assists in an
outstanding bounce-back performance, Kawhi Leonard added 27 points
and the Los Angeles Clippers forced a seventh game in their
first-round NBA playoff series with a 111-105 victory over the Denver
Nuggets in Game 6 on Thursday night. Norman Powell scored 24 points
for the Clippers, who rebounded from back-to-back losses with an
impressive effort at new Intuit Dome. Los Angeles took control in the
second half while playing tenacious defense on Nikola Jokic, who
scored 20 of his 25 points in the first half. Game 7 is Saturday in
Denver.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP)
— Jack Eichel scored his first goal of the series to give the Vegas
the lead late in the second period, and Adin Hill held it up on a
29-save night to spur the Golden Knights onto the second round with a
3-2 victory in Game 6 that ousted the Minnesota Wild. Shea Theodore
scored first and Mark Stone also scored last for Vegas, which will
face the winner of Edmonton-Los Angeles series. Ryan Hartman had two
goals for the Wild, including a wraparound with 3:27 left that came
31 seconds after Stone had just given the Golden Knights a two-goal

— Max Pacioretty scored a tiebreaking goal with less than six
minutes remaining in the third period, leading the Toronto Maple

“incident is being treated as accidental in nature.” The man

The Kansas City Royals optioned Noah Cameron back to Triple-A Omaha on Thursday, one day after the left-hander took a no-hitter into the seventh inning in his big league debut against the Rays in Tampa Bay.

Cameron was called upon to make a spot start for staff ace Cole Ragans, who has been dealing with a sore groin. He did not allow a hit until Curtis Mead's one-out single down the left-field line in the seventh. Royals manager Matt Quatraro promptly took him out of the game, and the Kansas City relief corps finished off the 3-0 victory over the Rays.

“You can’t put it into words,” said Cameron, who grew up rooting for the Royals in St. Joseph, Missouri, about an hour's drive north of their home at Kauffman Stadium. “It is something I’ve always dreamed about, especially with this team. And it is just crazy. Not what you would expect, but I’m glad to get out of there with what happened. You just can’t make it up.”

No pitcher has thrown a no-hitter for Kansas City since Bret Saberhagen on Aug. 26, 1991, a span of 5,244 games that represents the third-longest active no-hit drought in the majors. Only the Guardians and Blue Jays have gone longer.

"I thought he was going to do it,” Quatraro said. “The pitch count was really manageable. ... We know he throws strikes, and he was challenging guys. He had a good mix. Just really impressive.”

Kansas City delivered three defensive gems to help Cameron's bid. In the first inning, Hunter Renfroe’s leaping catch against the right-field wall robbed Yandy Diaz of extra bases. Maikel Garcia stabbed Mead’s hard-hit grounder in the second to start a double play. And in the third, Bobby Witt Jr. snagged Jose Caballero’s grounder in the hole and threw him out at first.

The 25-year-old Cameron wound up throwing 79 pitches, allowing that one hit with five walks and three strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings. He's the first player to throw that many hitless frames in his big league debut since the Blue Jays' Nick Kingham, who got two outs in the seventh inning against the Cardinals on April 29, 2018.

The splendid start by Cameron shouldn't have come as a complete surprise. He is widely considered among the organization's top five prospects, and he was 2-0 with a 3.22 ERA over his first five starts for Omaha this season.

In corresponding roster moves Thursday, the Royals selected right-hander Taylor Clarke from Omaha to provide some additional depth in the bullpen, and they transferred right-hander James McArthur to the 60-day injured list.

For the second consecutive week, Barton Community College track and field's Cedricka Williams' record breaking performance earns the weekly conference and national Field Athlete honors.

Williams' fifth career national award distributed by the U.S. Track &amp; Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) joins her second consecutive KJCCC distinction following her performance at the Rock Chalk Classic in Lawrence, Kansas.

Two weeks ago, Williams reset her national discus record then this past weekend in Lawrence, the sophomore exceeded her best by over a foot on her fourth attempt to remark the NJCAA's all-time distance at 59.89m (196-06) in placing 4th overall against a stacked field.

Overall, this is the sixth time in her career and the third time this season that Williams has tied or set the NJCAA all-time record.

Williams' second consecutive USTFCCCA week outdoor honor and fifth overall becomes the 13th for the women's program, joined by Jazmine Williamson (2024), Kelsie Murrell-Ross (2022), Nia Robinson (2021 and 2022), Lashanna Grahm (2021), Yoveinny Mota (twice in 2019) and Lydia Mato (2015).

Williams, along with the rest of the women and men's programs, now embark on the outdoor post-season beginning today in Coffeyville for the three-day KJCCC/Region 6 Championships followed by the National Championships held May 15-17 in Hutchinson.

Barton's Williams does it again, and again, and again

The unidentified man fell onto the warning track in right field just as Pirates star Andrew McCutchen hit a two-run double in the seventh inning to put Pittsburgh ahead 4-3. Players began waving frantically for medical personnel and pointing to the man.

The fan was tended to for approximately five minutes by members of both the Pirates and Cubs training staffs as well as PNC personnel, before being removed from the field on a cart. He was taken to the trauma center at Allegheny General Hospital, where he remained on Thursday.

Pittsburgh owner Bob Nutting said the club was “deeply saddened” and “truly heartbroken” over what he called a “terrible accident.”

“In times like these, we must come together, support one another, and keep him and his loved ones in our prayers,” Nutting said in a statement. “We also want to thank and appreciate the efforts of the first responders who rushed to his attention and provided him with compassionate care."

The railing that runs along the Clemente Wall in right field is three feet (36 inches) in height, which exceeds the building code requirements of 26 inches, according to Pirates vice president of communications Brian Warecki.

Fans were sitting in the front row above the Clemente Wall on Thursday ahead of the series finale between the two teams.

McCutchen, a five-time All-Star and franchise icon, said Thursday that the team was “devastated," adding that they prayed together after the game. Asked to describe his viewpoint of the sequence, McCutchen declined, saying he is trying not to think about it and is more focused on the man’s health.

“We’re just hoping for the best for him,” he said. “I hope he pulls through because he’s the reason why we are here. He’s the reason why we play the game. People that show their support so we can do something we love, partly because of him and because of fans. So, I just pray that he’s all right.”

Pirates manager Derek Shelton and Cubs manager Craig Counsell both alerted the umpire crew of the situation immediately after the play.

“Even though it’s 350 feet away or whatever it is, I mean the fact of how it went down and then laying motionless while the play is going on, I mean Craig saw it, I saw it. We both got out there,” Shelton said. “I think the umpires saw it because of the way it kicked. It’s extremely unfortunate. That’s an understatement.”

Players from both teams could be seen praying and McCutchen held a cross that hung from his neck while the fan was taken off the field.

The game was paused for several minutes while the man received medical attention but there was no official stoppage in play.

Police said any medical update on the fan will be provided by medical personnel in conjunction with the man's family.

Fans have died from steep falls at baseball stadiums in the past.

In 2015, Atlanta Braves season ticket holder Gregory K. Murrey flipped over guard rails from the upper deck at Turner Field. That was four years after Shannon Stone, a firefighter attending a game with his 6-year-old son, fell about 20 feet after reaching out for a foul ball tossed into the stands at the Texas Rangers’ former stadium.

Both incidents prompted scrutiny over the height of guard rails at stadiums. The Rangers raised theirs, while the Braves settled a lawsuit with Murrey’s family.

A spectator at a 2022 NFL game at Pittsburgh’s Acrisure Stadium died following a fall on an escalator.
