Call it a baker's dozen. Lady Panther sophomore Braelyn Turner struck out 13 Dodge City batters in a 15-3 game-one win against the Red Demons Tuesday at the Sports Complex. Freshman Chayla Prendergast added 12 strikeouts as Great Bend took game two 8-0 to move to 10-1 on the season.

Great Bend scored in all four at-bats in game one, including six runs in the first inning and five more in the third to set up the run-rule in the fifth. Turner allowed three earned runs on four hits and walked one batter to go with the strikeouts.

The Lady Panthers took advantage of some errors and passed balls in the big first inning. Kya Behr doubled in a run in the third, and Denver Ringo added an RBI-single.&nbsp;

Ringo, Behr and DeShawnna Bryant each singled and doubled in the win. Ringo drove in three and scored once. Camdyn Post singled twice, driving in two and scoring twice. Paige Thexton tripled and walked to finish with an RBI and two runs. Kamryn Koelsch and Ava Kaiser each singled and walked twice.

Turner set the bar high in the circle and Prendergast kept it there in game two, allowing no runs on five hits with the dozen punchouts.

Game two remained competitive through five innings as the Lady Panthers scored a single run in the first and two more in the third to lead 3-0. Great Bend opened the floodgates with a 5-run fifth that included RBI-singles from Prendergast and Post.

Behr doubled twice and singled, coming around to score three times. Post added a single to finish with a pair of RBIs and a run scored. All nine Lady Panther batters in the lineup finished the game with at least one hit.

Great Bend travels to Dodge City for a single game on Thursday.

Lady Panther softball outscores Dodge City 23-3 in sweep

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Salvador Perez hit a game-ending single in the 10th inning, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Houston Astros 4-3 on Tuesday night for their fifth consecutive victory.

Garrett Hampson began the Kansas City 10th on second as the automatic runner, replacing Vinnie Pasquantino. Hampson raced home when Perez led off the inning with a single to center against Wander Suero (0-1).

“We’re gonna play hard,” Perez said. “We’re gonna do our best, especially right now. We've got new comfort.”

James McArthur (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings for the win.

Perez and Nelson Velázquez each had two hits for the Royals. Bobby Witt Jr. and Maikel Garcia each drove in a run.

Nick Anderson, Chris Stratton, John Schreiber and McArthur combined for five scoreless innings of four-hit ball in relief of Royals starter Cole Ragans.

“These guys are incredible,” Ragans said of the bullpen. “They pitched incredible. They kept us right there. That’s really, really big.”

Witt's biggest contribution may have been a diving stop on a two-out single by Jeremy Peña in the top of the 10th. Had the ball gotten past the young shortstop, the Astros likely would have taken the lead.

“I thought it did have a chance of going through,” Peña said. “I’ll shout out to Bobby Witt. (He) made a nice play.”

Yordan Alvarez had four hits and two RBIs for Houston, which had won two in a row. Peña had two hits and scored a run.

The Astros loaded the bases with three straight singles to start the first inning, but Ragans limited the damage to a run-scoring fielder’s choice for Yainer Diaz.

“I don’t think (Ragans) had his best stuff,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “That’s a good lineup, and they made him work. (But) if we turn that double play in the first or he’s able to get Alvarez out one of those times with two strikes, he’s coming out of there with one or maybe no runs. Credit to him really."

Alvarez singled in Peña with two out in the second, and then doubled home Mauricio Dubón in the fourth.

Ragans surrendered 10 hits in five innings for Kansas City. He struck out five and walked one.

Houston went 5 for 18 with runners in scoring position and left 13 runners on base.

“We had some opportunities to get some guys in (with) less than two outs," Houston manager Joe Espada said. "We just couldn’t capitalize.”

Houston right-hander Cristian Javier was charged with three runs, two earned, and five hits in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked three.

Maikel Garcia’s sacrifice fly in the fifth stopped Javier’s scoreless streak at 15 innings to start the season. Witt drove in Hunter Renfroe with a two-out triple, and then scored on an error on third baseman Alex Bregman.

Astros: Placed LHP Framber Valdez on the 10-day injured list with left elbow inflammation. They selected the contract of Suero from Triple-A Sugar Land to take his place. The Astros also recalled LHP Parker Mushinski from Sugar Land and optioned RHP Blair Henley to the minors. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Astros transferred RHP Oliver Ortega to the 60-day IL.

Royals: Acquired RHP Colin Selby from Pittsburgh for minor league pitcher Connor Oliver. To make room on the 40-man roster for Selby, LHP Josh Taylor was moved to the 60-day IL. The Royals also signed RHP Zach Davies to a minor league deal.

to hear another voice” amid reports that he’s closing in on a
deal with Arkansas. Calipari posted a video on X in which he said
that after talking with his wife, Ellen, he decided a change was
needed. He didn’t specifically mention the Arkansas opening. The
Hall of Famer simply said, “There have been opportunities that have
been presented to us, so we’re discussing them as a family.”
Calipari leaves a Wildcats program he guided to the 2012 NCAA
championship among four Final Four appearances.

women’s NCAA championship game drew a bigger television audience
than the men’s title game for the first time, with an average of
18.9 million viewers watching undefeated South Carolina beat Iowa and

million. The Huskies’ 75-60 victory averaged 14.82 million on TBS
and TNT. The women's final was the second most-watched non-Olympic
women’s sporting event on U.S. television, trailing only the 2015
Women’s World Cup final between the United States and Japan.

(AP) — Tara VanDerveer, the winningest basketball coach in NCAA
history, has announced her retirement after 38 seasons leading the
Stanford women’s team and 45 years overall. The 70-year-old
VanDerveer surpassed Mike Krzyzewski for the wins record earlier this
year. The Hall of Famer departs with 1,216 victories at Idaho, Ohio
State and Stanford. And as has been the plan for years, top Cardinal
assistant Kate Paye is set to take over the program, and the school
said negotiations with Paye are underway. Paye played for VanDerveer
from 1991-95 and has coached on her staff for 17 years.

Track and field is set to become the first sport to introduce prize
money at the Olympics, with World Athletics saying Wednesday it would
pay $50,000 to gold medalists in Paris. World Athletics said it was
setting aside $2.4 million to pay the gold medalists across the 48

will split the $50,000 between their members. Payments for silver and
bronze medalists are planned to start from the 2028 Olympics in Los

attorneys say the teller may never be able to collect any money. A
judge in Tulsa handed down the order last week against 29-year-old
Xaviar Michael Bubudar. Former bank teller Payton Garcia alleged
Bubudar used a gun to assault her during a robbery of a Bixby,
Oklahoma, credit union in December 2022. Garcia was awarded $3.6
million for her injuries and loss of income and $7.2 million in
punitive damages.

— Prosecutors have dropped a felony rape case against former Kansas
basketball player Arterio Morris. They cited insufficient evidence on
Tuesday while filing a motion in Douglas County District Court to
seek its dismissal without prejudice. Morris was charged last August
and dismissed from the Jayhawks’ program after an incident report
came to light detailing an alleged rape that occurred at McCarthy
Hall, which houses the men’s basketball team along with other
residents. The criminal complaint alleged that a sexual assault
involving an 18-year-old victim occurred on Aug. 26. Morris was not
named in the incident report, but he was subsequently suspended from
the team and then dismissed.

Royals host the Astros on 5-game home win streak

— UConn delivered the latest of its suffocating basketball
beatdowns, smothering Purdue for a 75-60 victory to become the first
team since 2007 to capture back-to-back national championships.
Tristen Newton scored 20 points for the Huskies, who won their 12th
straight March Madness game — not a single one of them decided by
fewer than 13 points. UConn was efficient on offense but won this
with defense. The Huskies limited the country’s second-best 3-point
shooting team to a mere seven shots behind the arc, and Purdue only
made one. Meanwhile, UConn allowed Zach Edey to go for 37 points on
25 shot attempts.

huge individual effort in Monday night's loss to UConn in the
national title game. But Edey's big night wasn't enough to stop

the year. And he had powered Purdue to its first trip to the NCAA
title game since a 1969 loss to UCLA. But Edey was largely
single-handed in this one, with only Braden Smith hitting double
figures with 12 points.

— UConn left Donovan Clingan on the loneliest island, stuck deep in
the paint to wrestle Purdue center Zach Edey. Even when Edey bulled
his way to shots at the rim, the Huskies refused to give their big
man help, knowing the two-time national player of the year would get
his points. UConn had a much bigger concern than the 7-foot-4 man in
the middle: Purdue’s perimeter shooters. And, boy, did the Huskies
shut them down. UConn held one of the nation’s best 3-point
shooting team to one made 3 and became the first team in 17 years to
repeat as national champions with a 75-60 win.

— NCAA President Charlie Baker says prop betting on college
athletes for their individual performances is “enormously
problematic.” Baker spoke to reporters shortly before the men's
NCAA championship game between UConn and Purdue in Glendale, Arizona.
The NCAA has already pushed for states with legal wagering to ban the
practice. But he pointed to hearing concerns from athletes about
harassment from bettors angry with their performances. Baker says the
NCAA is “kind of in the top of the first inning” on trying to
find ways to manage the issue.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) —
Forget the azaleas and dogwoods at Augusta National. Players are
marveling over firm and fast conditions for the Masters. How long it
lasts depends on one day of rain expected later in the week. Xander
Schauffele says shots into par 5s are bouncing across the turf. Tony
Finau played a chip on the 11th hole he couldn't keep on the green.
Tiger Woods was out early with Will Zalatoris for nine holes. Among
those who used Monday as a day of rest was Akshay Bhatia. And for
good reason. He just got into the Masters by winning the Texas Open.

If anybody knows what Will Zalatoris has gone through as he tries to
return from back surgery to play competitive golf again, it just
might be his playing partner during Monday’s practice round for the
Masters. Five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods has undergone the
same procedure several times to alleviate pain caused by a herniated
disc. Zalatoris says most of Woods' advice has been about the
rehabilitation process and how to be patient in the recovery. But it
was somehow fitting that the two were first off the tee together one
year to the day that Zalatoris was on the operating table.

ST. LOUIS (AP) —
Alec Bohm had an RBI double in the 10th inning and the Philadelphia
Phillies beat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-3. Bohm’s hit off Ryan
Helsley (1-1) drove in automatic runner Cristian Pache, and Bryson
Stott followed with a sacrifice fly for the insurance run as the
Phillies won for the third time in their last four games. Gregory
Soto got the last three outs for his first save. The Cardinals
rallied for two in the bottom of the ninth off Jeff Hoffman (1-0) to
tie it. Jordan Walker scored the first with a sacrifice fly and Mason
Winn’s two-out single tied it 3-all.

CLEVELAND (AP) —
Shane Bieber held it together as long as he could. Cleveland’s ace
became emotional when discussing the upcoming Tommy John elbow
surgery that will end his season. Bieber's voice cracked before the
Guardians' home opener as he talked about the decision to have the
operation. The 2020 Cy Young winner was dominant in two starts before
he succumbed to pain. The 28-year-old is in his final season under
contract with Cleveland, which has offered him a long-term deal in
the past. Bieber understands there are no certainties about his
future, but he is more focused on recovering and getting back on the
mound.

UNDATED (AP) — The
National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced a
policy that all but bans transgender athletes from women’s sports.
The NAIA is the governing body for mostly small colleges, covering
about 83,000 athletes across the country. The NAIA’s Council of
Presidents approved the policy in a 20-0 vote. The NAIA is believed
to be the first college sports organization to take such a step. The
NCAA responded by saying it remains committed to “fair competition
for all student-athletes in all NCAA championships.”

NJCAA DI Softball Rankings

With the Kansas State High School Track and Field Championship approaching, Wichita State University and the Kansas State High School Activities Association are providing the following update regarding the status of University Stadium (formerly Cessna Stadium).

In September of 2022, the Wichita State University Board of Trustees approved funding for phases 1A and 1B for the capital improvement plan to remake Cessna Stadium into University Stadium, a state-of-the-art home for Wichita State athletics, university and community events and the Kansas State High School Track and Field Championship.

The east side of the stadium was taken down during the summer 2023 and in mid-December 2023, Wichita State accepted bids for Phase 1A and 1B and received one bid for the project.

"WSU appreciates the lone bid we received but has chosen to reject it and re-advertise for a construction manager to facilitate a more competitively bid project," said Kevin Saal, Wichita State Director of Athletics. "WSU officials are in regular communication with KSHSAA - which remains committed to hosting 2024 State Track in Wichita - in development of an operational plan to ensure a first-class 2024 State High School Track meet in Wichita." 

· Demolition of the east stands of University Stadium was completed in June 2023.

· Timing of all demolition and renovations will be scheduled to avoid interruption of the KSHSAA Track and Field Championship in future years.

· To facilitate a more competitively bid project, WSU will re-advertise for a construction manager at risk and work to obtain more competitive bids within the project packages, prior to a summer 2024 project start, inclusive of the scope contained in Phases 1A and 1B.

· The KSHSAA Track and Field Championship is scheduled for May 24-25, 2024 in Wichita at University Stadium. KSHSAA staff are in the process of evaluating the existing site with plans to release the 2024 schedule in the next few weeks.

· WSU will work with KSHSAA to set up a first-class team camp area, temporary bleachers, and restrooms on the east side, to host a first-class 2024 State High School Track Meet, negotiating a financial benefit to KSHSAA, given recent events and pending adjustments to the timeline.

· WSU will ensure there are safe paths for ingress and egress and an easy entrance to the track on the east side for the 2024 meet. Depending on the desires of KSHSAA, the bleacher seating can accommodate several thousand and there will also be an area for team camps and food options for fans and students on the east side.

· Phase 1A and 1B will begin after the 2024 Kansas State High School Track and Field Championship and includes improvements on the east side of the existing track (underground utility work, seating area for approximately 3,600 with a combination of bleacher seats and terraces designed for tents, free-standing field lights, fencing, ticket pavilion, restroom/storage buildings, and plaza). Bleacher seating on the north and south sides of the stadium is included.

· Widening the field and a 9-lane track will likely need to occur in summer 2025.

· The west side of the stadium, capacity around 12,000, will remain standing to allow for continued operation of the Kansas State High School Track and Field Championship. Demolition of the west side of the stadium can begin as early as June 2026.

· Future phases include a new west stadium structure with seating for more than 6,000. The new west stadium would include a single level of press boxes and viewing decks, offices/locker rooms/team room areas for a possible future soccer team, as well as restrooms, concessions and storage rooms.       

· Capacity of University Stadium, when completed, is planned for approximately 13,500.          

· The stadium opened in 1946 as Veterans Field and was expanded and renamed Cessna Stadium in 1969.

Wichita State has served as the host for all classes since 1970, except for 1978 when track renovation split the classes into three locations (Salina, Augusta, Wichita).

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, the governing body for mostly small colleges, announced a policy Monday that all but bans transgender athletes from competing in women's sports.

The NAIA’s Council of Presidents approved the policy in a 20-0 vote. The NAIA, which oversees some 83,000 athletes at schools across the country, is believed to be the first college sports organization to take such a step.

According to the transgender participation policy, all athletes may participate in NAIA-sponsored male sports but only athletes whose biological sex assigned at birth is female and have not begun hormone therapy will be allowed participate in women’s sports.

A student who has begun hormone therapy may participate in activities such as workouts, practices and team activities, but not in interscholastic competition.

“With the exception of competitive cheer and competitive dance, the NAIA created separate categories for male and female participants,” the NAIA said. "Each NAIA sport includes some combination of strength, speed and stamina, providing competitive advantages for male student-athletes. As a result, the NAIA policy for transgender student-athletes applies to all sports except for competitive cheer and competitive dance, which are open to all students."

There is no known number of transgender athletes at the high school and college levels, though it is believed to be small. The topic has nonetheless become a hot-button issue among conservative groups and others who believe transgender athletes should not be allowed to compete on girls’ and women’s sports teams.

At least 24 states have laws barring transgender women and girls from competing in certain women’s or girls sports competitions. Last month, more than a dozen current and former college athletes filed a federal lawsuit against the NCAA, accusing the sports governing body for more than 500,000 athletes of violating their rights by allowing transgender women to compete in women’s sports.

The Biden administration originally planned to release a new federal Title IX rule — the law forbids discrimination based on sex in education — addressing both campus sexual assault and transgender athletes. But earlier this year, the department decided to split them into separate rules, and the athletics rule now remains in limbo even as the sexual assault policy moves forward.

Hours after the NAIA announcement, the NCAA released a statement: “College sports are the premier stage for women’s sports in America and the NCAA will continue to promote Title IX, make unprecedented investments in women’s sports and ensure fair competition for all student-athletes in all NCAA championships.”

The NCAA has had a policy for transgender athlete participation in place since 2010, which called for one year of testosterone suppression treatment and documented testosterone levels submitted before championship competitions. In 2022, the NCAA revised its policies on transgender athlete participation in an attempt to align with national sport governing bodies, following the lead of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee.

The three-phase implementation of the policy included a continuation of the 2010 policy, requiring transgender women to be on hormone replacement therapy for at least one year, plus the submission of a hormone-level test before the start of both the regular season and championship events.

The third phase adds national and international sport governing body standards to the NCAA’s policy and is scheduled to be implemented for the 2024-25 school year on Aug. 1.

There are some 15.3 million public high school students in the United States and a 2019 study by the CDC estimated 1.8% of them — about 275,000 — are transgender. The number of athletes within that group is much smaller; a 2017 survey by Human Rights Campaign suggested fewer than 15% of all transgender boys and transgender girls play sports.

MANHATTAN, Kansas – K-State center Ayoka Lee will use her final season of eligibility and return to the Wildcat women's basketball roster for the 2024-25 season.

Lee was a Second Team All-America selection by The Athletic, a Third Team All-America honoree by The Sporting News, a 2024 John R. Wooden Award National Ballot top-15 candidate, an All-Big 12 First Team selection, a Big 12 All-Defensive Team member and Big 12 All-Tournament Team.

In the 2023-24 season, Lee averaged 19.7 points on a .619 field goal percentage, 8.6 rebounds and 2.78 blocked shots. She is the first player in program history with two or more seasons of 500 or more points, 200 or more rebounds and 75 or more blocks. Her 75 blocks were the sixth-most in program history and was her third career season with 75 or more blocked shots.

She ranked sixth in the nation and leads the Big 12 in field goal percentage. Lee is third in the Big 12 in scoring average, second in the league and ninth in the nation for blocks per game and third in the Big 12 for rebounding average.

In her seven games this season against Associated Press top-25 opponents, Lee averaged 20.6 points on a .637 field goal percentage, 10.6 rebounds and 2.3 blocks.

Lee has recorded 14 games this season with 20 or more points including her second career 20-20 double-double with 24 points, 21 rebounds and five blocked shots against Oral Roberts.

K-State’s Lee to Return for 2024-25 Season

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — John Calipari is finalizing a five-year deal to become the next men's basketball coach at Arkansas, sources told ESPN on Sunday night, a blockbuster move that will shake up the SEC and college basketball landscape.

Calipari's contract is expected to have an overall base salary of slightly less than the $8.5 million he's making at Kentucky, sources told ESPN. However, the deal is expected to be incentive-laden with the ability to pass that number.

The contract is expected to be completed in the next 24 hours.

The key relationship to help the deal come together was Calipari's long-standing ties to John H. Tyson, a billionaire who is a longtime Arkansas benefactor.

Calipari is set to replace Eric Musselman, who left for USC last week. After his departure, Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek pursued Ole Miss' Chris Beard and Kansas State's Jerome Tang, although both coaches returned to their respective schools. Arkansas is believed to have offered Beard in the neighborhood of $5 million per year, sources said.

The Panthers finished in a tie with Hays with 48 points for second place but dropped to third on a tiebreaker. Ellinwood won the meet with 50 points.

"We all played well despite the conditions," said Panther Coach Chris Manning. "We had some great communication by our doubles teams. We still haven’t figured out who is playing with who, so to watch new teams have success is exciting. Freshman Aiden Stacey continues to impress."

Stacey, playing in the No. 2 singles spot, went 2-0 in pool matches with an 8-0 win against teammate Ryan Roussouw, playing for Hoisington, and an 8-2 win against Hays. Stacey dropped his cross-bracket match 8-2 to the overall winner from Scott City.

Great Bend's No. 1 doubles team of Kaden Deines and Chason Ramsey finished the day at 1-2. They lost to Hoisington's Leyton Mooney and Brody Rossman but picked up an 8-3 win against Hays. The Panther pair fell 8-1 to Hays' other team in cross-bracket play.

At No. 2 doubles for the Panthers, Kai Brit and Kaden Pounds finished at 1-1 overall. They defeated Hoisington's team of Randy Chambers and Jordan O'Neill 8-6 in their lone pool match. Great Bend fell to Scott City 8-6 in cross-bracket competition.

Panther tennis team battles wind at home invite

The Barton track and field team added 19 new national qualifiers competing this past Friday and Saturday at the Crimson Tide Invitational hosted by the University of Alabama.

Among the two-day achievements, a pair of program top ten impacts were made on the men's side of eleven national qualifying performances.

The first came from sophomore Adrian Nethersole in the 800m, placing 5th overall at the Invite with a current second best national time of 1:49.93 for 10th best in program history. Corlando Chambers was just outside the program list with a 1:51.35 time in placing a spot behind Nethersole in 6th place.

Just over two hours later Hamza Belkhalfi again etched his name on the program top ten list, this time coming in the 1500m with a 3:54.62 stoppage ranking 9th in Barton's illustrious history.

The Barton men had 14 top ten placers in the four-year school dominated meet, the lone winner coming from Christopher Young's 18.57m (60-11.25) shot put throw with Ricardo Hayles placing 8th at 16.26m (53-04.25). The duo chalked up another pair of top ten placing in the discus, Young at 55.98m (183-08) to place 4th with Hayles in 10th with a 50.98m (167-03) mark. Boris Peranovic was the Cougars' lone entry in the hammer throw, placing 6th at 48.02m (157-6).

Sophomore Revon Williams came up .64 seconds shy of another Barton meet title in the 400m by placing runner-up at 46.76 to an Alabama senior runner.

Both of the Cougars' 4x100m relay teams placed 4th, the women's team of Keliza Smith, Maria Umoibang, Ashley Shaw, and Chloe Perryman clocking a season best 45.58 while the men's tandem of Wanyae Belle, Aaron Charles, Williams, and Jayden Singleton clocking a 40.09.

In addition to the relay, the women's squad added eight additional top ten placings with Ivanilda Semedo the lone challenger for a title in a discus runner-up throw of 52.94m (173-08).

Three Barton women had a pair of top ten placings in their respective events. Smith finished 4th in the 100m in a time of 11.57 followed by a 9th place 200m finish of 24.05, Jazmine Williamson placed 7th in the high jump at 1.65m (5-05.00) and 8th in the long jump at 5.70m (18-08.50), and Kay-Lagay Clarke a slot ahead in the long jump at 5.73m (18-09.75) following a 9th placing in the 100m hurdles at 14.07.

Barton is next scheduled to remain in-state competing in the KT Woodman Classic taking place April 11-13.

It doesn't happen often to the Barton Community College baseball team but on Sunday in Dodge City the Cougars had one of those days in dropping both ends of a doubleheader with a pair of 12-2 losses at Dodge City Community College.

Both games fell below the scheduled innings to be played, Dodge City scoring in every frame to cap the opener with a four-run fifth then put another four runs on the board in the eighth to shortened the backend contest.

Barton's third straight loss drops to 13-7 in KJCCC action and 26-11 on the year while Dodge City's first series win over the Cougars since 2016 improves the Conquistadors to 11-5 in league play and 26-12 overall.

Owen Clyne led the Cougars with two hits, the first coming on a 12-pitch at-bat resulting in an infield single plating Bolin to cut the deficit in half.The Conquistadors responded with a pair of hits leading off the home half with Barton's third error resulting in two additional runs hitting the home side of the scoreboard to chase Feezer from the mound.Dodge City plated an additional run in the third on a two-out double, one in the fourth, and a final four plate crossers in the fifth including a two-run home run for one of seven extra base hits for the Conquistadors in the contest.Game 2 Recap (L 12-2)Dodge City grabbed a second inning run before opening up a five spot lead in the fourth. A leadoff walk trotted home on a fence-clearer then loaded the bases on a pair of hits and a 1-out walk. The Conquistadors pushed across two runs on consecutive fielder's choices with Barton's lone error of the nightcap plating another for a 5-0 deficit.A solo home run led off the Dodge City fifth frame extending the lead to 6-0.The Cougars picked up a run in the sixth, Bolin and Jaron Cotton leading off the frame with hits as Clyne's groundout the lone run producer.A walk and hit by pitch set up Dodge City's two-run seventh on two hits with the Cougars escaping further damage rolling up their second double play of the game.Trailing by seven, Barton threatened a big eighth inning with Bolin and Cotton each collecting their second hit of the game to begin the frame with Clyne's walk loading the bases. Brock Howard's sacrifice fly would be all the Cougars would push across in matching game one's seven stranded base runners.Dodge City wouldn't give Barton another final at-bat on the day, doing damage with two-outs on an RBI double and single as the Conquistadors' third home run of the game walked off the final two runs.Ethan Minaker took his first loss of the year dropping to 3-1 following four innings of work.
