was awarded first base due to catcher’s interference. The team said
Contreras had a left forearm fracture, and Iván Herrera took over
behind the plate.

suspected of assault in Dallas a little over a month after he was one
of the speeding drivers in a chain-reaction crash that led to
multiple charges. Law enforcement officials told The Dallas Morning
News that Rice was suspected of assaulting a person who went to a
hospital after an incident at a downtown nightclub early Monday
morning. Rice faces multiple charges in the high-speed crash in
Dallas. Rice's attorney has acknowledged the receiver was one of the
speeding drivers.

Jaylen Brown scored 32 points and the Boston Celtics powered past the
Cleveland Cavaliers 120-95 in Game 1 of their second-round playoff
series. Derrick White added 25 points, including 7 3-pointers to help
the Celtics pull away in the second half. Jayson Tatum finished with
18 points and 11 rebounds. The Cavaliers went 11 of 42 from 3 and
kept pace early. But the Celtics were even more efficient from the
outside, connecting on 18 of 46 from beyond the arc for the game. It
helped Boston carry a 15-point lead into the fourth quarter. Donovan
Mitchell had 33 points for Cleveland, becoming the fourth player in
league history with 30 or more points in six straight playoff series
openers.

and the Colorado Avalanche, after trailing by three goals in the

their second-round Western Conference series. Wood got the puck past
Jake Oettinger to wrap up only the Avalanche’s third three-goal
comeback to win a playoff game in their history. Cale Makar had a
goal and two assists for Colorado, while Valerie Nichushkin had a
goal and an assist. Nathan MacKinnon had the tying goal only 39
seconds into the third period Alexander Georgiev had 19 saves while
winning his fifth consecutive game in goal for the Avalanche. Game 2
is Thursday night.

NEW YORK (AP) —
Vincent Trocheck scored a power-play goal off a rebound at 7:24 of
the second overtime to give the New York Rangers a 4-3 win over the
Carolina Hurricanes. Alexis Lafreniere scored twice, Chris Kreider
had a power-play goal and Artemi Panarin had two assists for the
Rangers. Igor Shesterkin stopped a season-high 54 shots. The Rangers
remained perfect in six playoff games. Jake Guentzel scored twice,
Dmitry Orlov also scored and Sebastian Aho had three assists for the

Colorado coach Tad Boyle is adding basketball great Danny Manning to his coaching staff in a reunion of former Kansas teammates.

Boyle and Manning spent a season together with the Jayhawks in 1984-85. Manning would later go on to lead Kansas to the 1988 NCAA championship, an improbable run that earned the team the nickname “Danny and the Miracles."

The addition of Manning comes as the Buffaloes prepare to rejoin the Big 12 Conference. Manning and Boyle will now routinely face their alma mater.

Manning, who turns 58 on May 17, begins his time in Boulder on June 1. He will work with a team that's coming off a 26-win season and an NCAA Tournament appearance. The Buffaloes saw several players enter the NBA draft, including freshman Cody Williams, who could be a lottery pick.

Manning spent the past two seasons as associate head coach at Louisville. He's also served as the head coach at Tulsa and Wake Forest. In addition, he was the interim head coach at Maryland in 2021-22.

“I’m very excited to join coach Boyle’s staff,” Manning said in a statement Tuesday. “This staff has been together for quite some time and has had quite a bit of success, so I want to come in and be a sponge."

While at Kansas, Manning became the program's all-time leader in points (2,951) and rebounds (1,187). He was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008.

As a senior in 1984-85, Boyle shared the court with Manning, who was a freshman at the time. They crossed paths again as assistant coaches for USA Basketball's under-19 World Cup team in 2017.

“I’m excited to add him to the staff,” Boyle said. "He’s not only a great coach, but he’s a great human being and he’s going to do nothing but help Colorado basketball.”

Manning was the top pick by the Los Angeles Clippers in 1988. He spent 15 seasons in the NBA with seven different teams. He was the sixth man of the year with Phoenix in 1998.

He broke into the coaching ranks under Kansas coach Bill Self, starting as the director of student-athlete development/team manager in 2003 and rising to an assistant coach role in 2007. He was part of the staff when the Jayhawks won the 2008 national title.

Manning went 38-29 in two seasons at Tulsa, where he was named Conference USA's coach of the year in 2013-14. At Wake Forest, he went 78-111 over six seasons and then 10-14 as the interim coach at Maryland after Mark Turgeon stepped down.

Colorado adds basketball great Danny Manning to coaching staff

A settlement being discussed in an antitrust lawsuit against the NCAA and major college conferences could cost billions and pave the way for a compensation model for college athletes.

An agreement has not been finalized and many questions remain unanswered. It is also unclear if new rules could withstand further legal scrutiny, but it appears college sports is heading down a revolutionary path with at least some schools directly paying athletes to participate. Here's what is known and what still needs to be figured out:

House vs. NCAA is a class-action federal lawsuit seeking damages for athletes who were denied the opportunity, going back to 2016, to earn money from use of their name, image or likeness — often referred to by the acronym NIL. The plaintiffs, including former Arizona State swimmer Grant House, are also asking the court to rule that NIL compensation should include billions of dollars in media rights fees that go to the NCAA and the wealthiest conferences (Big Ten, Big 12, Atlantic Coast and Southeastern), mostly for football and basketball.

The settlement being discussed could have the NCAA paying nearly $3 billion in damages over 10 years, with help from insurance and withholding of distributions that would have gone to the four big conferences. Last year, NCAA revenue approached $1.3 billion and the association projects a steady rise in coming years, thanks mostly to increases baked into the television contract with CBS and Warner Bros. Discovery for the men's basketball tournament. A new, eight-year deal with ESPN worth $920 million for the Division I women's basketball tournament and other championship events takes effect in 2025.

The potential settlement also calls for a $300 million commitment from each school in those four conferences over 10 years, including about $20 million per year directed toward paying athletes. Administrators have warned that could lead to program cuts for the so-called non-revenue sports familiar to fans who watch the Olympics.

“It’s the Olympic sports that would be in jeopardy,” Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne said during a March panel in Washington led by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). “That’s men and women. If you look at the numbers for us at the University of Alabama, with our 19 sports outside of football and men’s basketball, we lost collectively almost $40 million."

Not entirely clear. Presumably, it would start with the athletes in sports that produce most of the revenue: football and men's basketball players at the biggest and wealthiest programs. Women's basketball is likely next in line, but it is possible athletes in all sports could see some benefit — but probably not at all schools.

What's being considered is allowing schools to pay athletes, but not requiring those payments. Schools that don't rake in millions in TV revenue wouldn't necessarily be on the hook. There are also unanswered questions about whether the federal gender equity law Title IX would require equal funding for male and female athletes.

Getting the presidential boards of four conferences and the NCAA board of governors to approve a settlement is not a given, not to mention the plaintiffs in the House case. Still, the possibility of having to pay $4 billion in damages — and the NCAA has been on the losing end of many recent court cases — has spurred interest in a deal before trial begins in January.

The case is being heard in the Northern District of California by U.S. Judge Claudia Wilken, who has already ruled against the NCAA other landmark antitrust lawsuits and ordered the sides in House to seek a settlement.

EMPLOYMENT AND COLLECTIVE BARGAINING

Settling existing cases is only one step. A new system for compensating college athletes would be needed to avoid similar challenges in the future; for example, anything that looks like a cap on compensation by, say, the four major conferences would be ripe for another lawsuit.

The NCAA has been asking Congress for some kind of antitrust exemption for years, but the emphasis has shifted lately from regulating NIL compensation to keeping the athletes from being deemed employees.

A ruling from an NLRB regional director paved the way for members of the Dartmouth men's basketball team to vote to join a union after being deemed employees, and many have advocated for collective bargaining as a solution to college sports' antitrust exposure.

Jason Stahl, executive director of the College Football Players Association advocacy group, says lawmakers should create a special status for college athletes that would give them the right to organize and collectively bargain without actual employee status.

Stahl said even though many college athletes are apprehensive about being employees and joining a union, they should have the right to decide that.

"My concern is there would be some type of one-two punch," Stahl said of a lawsuit settlement followed quickly by federal legislation to codify a revenue-sharing plan that precludes athletes from employee status and the right to organize. “A lot of things I'm hearing about this cap are not things I want to be hearing."

There are so many moving parts that it is hard to say with certainty, though settling House seems to a priority for late spring or summer. The earliest for any true changes noticed on campus would be fall of 2025.

A new, eight-year deal with ESPN worth $920 million for the Division I women's basketball tournament and other championship events takes effect in 2025.The potential settlement also calls for a $300 million commitment from each school in those four conferences over 10 years, including about $20 million per year directed toward paying athletes. Administrators have warned that could lead to program cuts for the so-called non-revenue sports familiar to fans who watch the Olympics.“It’s the Olympic sports that would be in jeopardy,” Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne said during a March panel in Washington led by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). “That’s men and women. If you look at the numbers for us at the University of Alabama, with our 19 sports outside of football and men’s basketball, we lost collectively almost $40 million."WHO GETS PAID?Not entirely clear. Presumably, it would start with the athletes in sports that produce most of the revenue: football and men's basketball players at the biggest and wealthiest programs. Women's basketball is likely next in line, but it is possible athletes in all sports could see some benefit — but probably not at all schools.What's being considered is allowing schools to pay athletes, but not requiring those payments. Schools that don't rake in millions in TV revenue wouldn't necessarily be on the hook. There are also unanswered questions about whether the federal gender equity law Title IX would require equal funding for male and female athletes.WHO MAKES THE CALL?Getting the presidential boards of four conferences and the NCAA board of governors to approve a settlement is not a given, not to mention the plaintiffs in the House case. Still, the possibility of having to pay $4 billion in damages — and the NCAA has been on the losing end of many recent court cases — has spurred interest in a deal before trial begins in January.The case is being heard in the Northern District of California by U.S. Judge Claudia Wilken, who has already ruled against the NCAA other landmark antitrust lawsuits and ordered the sides in House to seek a settlement.EMPLOYMENT AND COLLECTIVE BARGAININGSettling existing cases is only one step. A new system for compensating college athletes would be needed to avoid similar challenges in the future; for example, anything that looks like a cap on compensation by, say, the four major conferences would be ripe for another lawsuit.The NCAA has been asking Congress for some kind of antitrust exemption for years, but the emphasis has shifted lately from regulating NIL compensation to keeping the athletes from being deemed employees.A ruling from an NLRB regional director paved the way for members of the Dartmouth men's basketball team to vote to join a union after being deemed employees, and many have advocated for collective bargaining as a solution to college sports' antitrust exposure.Jason Stahl, executive director of the College Football Players Association advocacy group, says lawmakers should create a special status for college athletes that would give them the right to organize and collectively bargain without actual employee status.Stahl said even though many college athletes are apprehensive about being employees and joining a union, they should have the right to decide that."My concern is there would be some type of one-two punch," Stahl said of a lawsuit settlement followed quickly by federal legislation to codify a revenue-sharing plan that precludes athletes from employee status and the right to organize. “A lot of things I'm hearing about this cap are not things I want to be hearing."WHAT'S NEXTThere are so many moving parts that it is hard to say with certainty, though settling House seems to a priority for late spring or summer. The earliest for any true changes noticed on campus would be fall of 2025.

Former Great Bend High School graduate Chayse Gruber has committed to play Division I baseball at the University of Richmond.

Gruber was selected to the Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches (KABC) 5A All-State Team as a 2nd Team selection in 2022 and helped Great Bend to a co-championship of the Western Athletic Conference his senior year.

Playing two years at Neosho County Community College as a pitcher, Gruber has a 10-3 record on the mound with 79 strikeouts in his career. This spring, Gruber is 8-3 with an ERA of 2.72.

The 14th ranked Barton Community College women's golf team possibly concluded their season on Tuesday with a third place finish at the Region VI/Plains District Championship held at Dodge City's Mariah Hills Golf Course.

The placing puts the Cougars in the waiting game of the NJCAA's announcement the week of May 6th of a possible at-large berth to the national tournament.

Punching her national ticket was the continued solid play of Butpapaporn Sukterm as the freshman placed District runner-up of the 57-competitor field and placed first of the Region VI competitors to earn the 2024 Champion title.

Sukterm compiled a 5-over 147, opening the two-day tournament with a 74 in trailing by a pair of strokes to Iowa Western's Baylie Pike as the duo carded identical 73 cards on Tuesday clinching the Reiver's individual title by two strokes.

Earning automatic bids to the NJCAA Division I Championship May 19-24 at the Duran Country Club in Melbourne, Florida, were the top ten individuals and the top two teams. Ranked 7th nationally, Dodge City Community College finished two rounds on their home course at 45-over 613, seven strokes better than 9th ranked Iowa Western's 52-over 620.

The Cougars stayed relatively consistent at 332 and 334 rounds to finish forty-six strokes back in third place at 98-over 666 score.

Just missing the automatic individual qualifications, Valentina Leyva finished in 11th overall, opening with an 81 but fell two spots on the leaderboard in the final round with an 82 for a 21-over 163.

Frida Medellin was the third Cougar on the leaderboard in 25th following 87-90 rounds for a 35-over 177.

Andrea Peraza and Alayna Crosby tied for the 29th spot at 39-over 181, Peraza with 90 and 91 rounds while Crosby was the lone climber up the standings on day two following a 92 card with a three-stroke improvement of 89.

Sukterm leads Barton women's golf to third place District finish

The 20th ranked Barton Community College men's golf team earned its first national tournament berth in ten years by finishing tied for 4th last Tuesday in the Region VI/Central District Championships held at Tiffany Greens Golf Club in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Cougars tied 15th ranked Iowa Western in the standings compiling a 37-over 901 in the 54-holes, two-day event by staying consistent with a pair of 300 rounds followed by a closing 301 score.

Barton qualifies for the national tournament as a team for the first time since 2014 marking the second berth under Head Coach Doug Kaiser. The Cougars now prepare for a trip to Hobbs, New Mexico, for the 2024 NJCAA Division I Championship held May 14-17 at Rockwind Country Club.

In a district featuring seven within the nation's Top-25 ranked teams, 3rd ranked Indian Hills captured the title posting consecutive 283 scores followed by a 298 round to win by 17 strokes at even-par 864. Region VI members 5th ranked Hutchinson and 8th ranked Dodge City tied for second in sharing the regional title at 17-over 881.

Axel Bolander finished as the Region VI runner-up in earning All-District honors, the highest individual placing since Jermie Eloy's Region title leading the 2014 squad.

Making a 22-step climb up the leaderboard after an opening 4-over 76, Bolander fired a 2-under 70 in Monday's afternoon round before draining a handful of clutch putts down the stretch for a Tuesday card of 1-under 71.

The accumulated effort put the sophomore in 5th place of the 70-competitor field at 1-over 217 to additionally match Eloy's district accomplishment.

Like Bolander, Martin Chevallier made a big climb up the standings from 46th place following a 9-over 81 by playing 4-over golf in the next two rounds with 73 and 75 cards for a 19-spot climb into 27th at 13-over 229.

Kaleb Lambert began the Championships with an even-par 72 for 9th overall but took a tumble down to 29th at 14-over 230 following 77 and 81 rounds.

In 34th place at 16-over 232 was Tanapoom Kaewjoey on 78-80-74 rounds as Worathan Thammachokecharoen rounded out the team entries in 47th at 26-over 242 on 74-80-88 cards.

Anthony Arriola led the individualists with consistent 81-82-81 rounds for a 50th placing at 28-over 244 with Thantup Saengvut in 61st at 44-over 260 following 82-96-82 scores.

Headed back to Nationals, Barton men's golf secure berth with 4th place District finish

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Michael Massey homered and Maikel Garcia singled in two runs in a three-run seventh inning as the Kansas City Royals rallied past the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 on Monday night.

The start was moved up a half-hour to 6:10 p.m. CDT to beat predicted thunderstorms, which didn't arrive before the last out.

After the Royals did next to nothing against Milwaukee starter Bryse Wilson, who allowed one hit and struck out six in six scoreless innings, they broke through in the seventh against the Brewers' bullpen.

“These guys just don’t quit,” Kansas City manager Matt Quatraro said. “I wish I could put my finger on it and say, ‘Let’s do that in the first.’ But for whatever reason, the game gets later and they come through.”

Massey greeted Jared Koenig (2-1) with a 412-foot homer through a crosswind to right-center.

“It found the barrel and got the inside part of the ball and felt good,” Massey said. “Before the game. I didn’t think I was gonna be able to get one out to right. So it feels good.”

Quatraro said the conditions made Massey's drive more impressive.

“Usually a crosswind doesn’t help,” Quatraro said. “He cut through that. We know this park plays big.”

Koenig was lifted with one out after a walk and a hit batsman, and Garcia hit a bases-loaded single up the middle against Elvis Peguero.

“It’s another good start for (Wilson),” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said. “Gary (Sánchez) did a great job handling him.

"(Garcia's single) was hit where we weren’t and scored a couple runs.”

Cole Ragans allowed two runs on two hits in six innings for the Royals, striking out eight and keeping Kansas City's offense within striking distance.

“Relentless,” he said. “They keep going until somebody makes a mistake and then they make you pay. It’s fun to watch.”

Nick Anderson (2-1) pitched a scoreless seventh. Tyler Duffey and Will Smith got through the eighth — helped by catcher Salvador Perez, who threw out Jackson Chourio trying to steal third — and Chris Stratton worked the ninth for his second save.

Sánchez hit a two-run homer in the fourth for the Brewers, taking advantage of a strong southerly wind. He got a 2-1 fastball up into the air and it landed 427 feet away in the seats in left-center.

“I made a mistake and (Sánchez) made me pay for it,” Ragans said. “I got it down and in when I wanted it more middle up. You saw what he did with it.”

Wilson walked the first two Royals in the sixth. But he induced Vinnie Pasquantino to hit into a 4-6-3 double play and then struck out Perez to get out of the jam.

Brewers: Selected the contract of RHP Kevin Herget from Triple-A Nashville. RHP Janson Junk was optioned to Nashville ... RHP Jakob Junis was transferred to the 60-day injured list. ... RHP Freddy Peralta dropped his appeal and began his five-game suspension for hitting Tampa Bay's Jose Siri with a pitch Tuesday.

Royals: RHP Alec Marsh felt good after a rehab start with Triple-A Omaha Sunday. He is on schedule to return to the starting rotation Friday at the Los Angeles Angels.

The three-game series continues Tuesday with Milwaukee RHP Colin Rea (3-0, 2.67 ERA) facing Kansas City RHP Seth Lugo (5-1, 1.60).

blown save Sunday as the Mets bounced back from a weekend sweep at
Tampa Bay. Iván Herrera had a two-run double for the Cardinals, who
have lost five of six. Díaz worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his fifth save
in six opportunities. Manaea allowed three runs and six hits in his
first career start against the Cardinals. He became the first Mets
starter to earn a win since Luis Severino beat Pittsburgh 9-1 on

DENVER (AP) —
Another dominant performance by the Minnesota Timberwolves has the
reigning but reeling NBA champion Denver Nuggets on the cusp of a
stunning early exit from the playoffs. Anthony Edwards and
Karl-Anthony Towns led the short-handed Timberwolves to a 106-80
blowout of the Nuggets for a 2-0 lead in their Western Conference
semifinal series. Games 3 and 4 are in Minneapolis this weekend. The
Timberwolves have won all six of their playoff games. The Nuggets
have trailed by large margins in all seven of theirs. They bounced
back against the Lakers but haven't cracked the code against
Minnesota.

Jalen Brunson scored 43 points, becoming the fourth player in NBA
history with four straight 40-point games in the postseason, and the
New York Knicks beat the Indiana Pacers 121-117 in Game 1 of the
Eastern Conference semifinals. Brunson had 21 in the fourth quarter,
rallying the Knicks after they trailed by nine early in the period.

Another dominant performance by the Minnesota Timberwolves has the
reigning but reeling NBA champion Denver Nuggets on the cusp of a
stunning early exit from the playoffs. Anthony Edwards and
Karl-Anthony Towns led the short-handed Timberwolves to a 106-80
blowout of the Nuggets for a 2-0 lead in their Western Conference
semifinal series. Games 3 and 4 are in Minneapolis this weekend. The
Timberwolves have won all six of their playoff games. The Nuggets

Prep swim meets across the state feature three relay races. The Great Bend High School swimmers have now qualified for state in all three races. Last Thursday in Newton, the Lady Panther 400-year free relay of Josephine Mazouch, Sydney Kruckenberg, Darcy Feist, and Emily Hall finished third in 4:11.46 to miss the silver medal by more than two seconds. However, the team did beat the automatic state qualification time of 4:12.45.

McPherson won the Newton Invitational with 265 points. Great Bend edged out the host Railers 186-182 for second.

The 200 medley relay has already qualified for state. Thursday, the team of Hall, Mazouch, Feist, and Clarise Snapp finished third in 2:10.98, nearly two seconds behind the silver medalists from Newton. The squad of Kruckenberg, Meredith Mazouch, Ava Gregg, and Braylee Carper placed fifth in 2:24.97. The 200 free relay has also qualified for state. Thursday, the team of Kruckenberg, Meredith Mazouch, Madelynne Siefkes, and Ellie Lutt placed eighth in 2:03.35 so miss the bronze by six seconds.

Josephine Mazouch continues to flirt with a state qualification time in the 100 free, placing second in 1:00.72 to miss the gold by 1.3 seconds. The state qualification mark is 57.21. Hall placed third in the 50 free in 27.51, less than a second behind the silver. Josephine Mazouch finished fourth in 27.68, and Feist swam ninth in 29.65. Hall finished sixth in the 100 fly in 1:09.52 to miss the bronze by six seconds. Snapp just missed a state consideration time in the 100 breast where she placed third in 1:21.98 to miss the silver by two seconds. Gregg swam sixth in 1:26.67.

Gregg finished seventh in the 200 IM in 2:53.26, followed by Snapp in eighth in 2:53.94. Region 6 Softball Tournament Scores/Schedule

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Jonah Heim hit a tying solo home run in the ninth inning and Nathaniel Lowe had a go-ahead RBI single in the 10th, leading the Texas Rangers to a 3-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday.

With one out in the 10th, Corey Seager singled off James McArthur (1-1) to put runners on first and third. Lowe followed with his third RBI of the series to score Leody Tavares.

David Robertson pitched a scoreless 10th that included an intentional walk to Bobby Witt Jr. with two outs to seal the win for the Rangers with his first save of the season.

Kirby Yates (3-0) earned the win by tossing two scoreless innings of relief.

It was the third straight series win for the Rangers overall and the sixth in a row against the Royals since 2021.

“The guys fought and we had some huge hits in the end with Heim and Lowe, but you have to look at the mound,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said. “(Jon) Gray had seven solid innings, Yates gave us a good ninth and Robertson came and shut it down. ...

"The pitching has been pretty consistent, giving us great starts, and the bullpen is doing a nice job. That is how to take series wins.”

Heim tied it at 2 in the ninth off McArthur when his shot struck the right-field foul pole for a home run. The homer snapped a season-high four-game drought for the Rangers.

“I didn’t want to chase low, so I just tried to see something up in the zone," Heim said. “Luckily, he threw me a slider that started up and I put a good swing on it, and it stayed fair.

"There is never any panic with our offense. Everyone is out there just putting together good at-bats, taking walks, hitting balls hard and good things will happen for us.”

Texas moved to 3-3 in rubber games this season, while Kansas City dropped to 1-5.

“It was a tough loss,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. "We had a 2-0 lead going into the eighth, but a lot will be made of the last couple of innings. We did not do much in the middle innings. Credit to Gray and Yates for keeping us right where we were.”

Kansas City's Daniel Lynch tossed five innings of shutout ball in his season debut with just two hits, two walks and six strikeouts. Lynch retired 10 straight after getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the first.

Vinnie Pasquantino gave the Royals an early 2-0 lead with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the first and an RBI double in the third. But Kansas City went 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position.

Kansas City recalled Lynch for the start and optioned RHP Colin Selby to Triple-A Omaha to make room.

Rangers rookie OF Wyatt Langford left Saturday night with right hamstring tightness and was scheduled to have an MRI on Sunday. The team expected to know more by Monday.

Rangers: Texas will head to Oakland for a four-game series. Andrew Heaney (0-4, 5.10 ERA) will start against the A's.

Royals: Kansas City will host Milwaukee for three games starting Monday night, when Cole Ragans (2-2, 3.44 ERA) will take the mound.

possible settlement of an antitrust lawsuit that could cost them
billions in damages and force schools to share athletics-related
revenue with their athletes. But even if college sports leaders
create a new, more professional model for collegiate athletics they
likely would need help from Congress if athletes are not classified
as employees. Two people familiar with settlement discussions related
to House vs. the NCAA told AP the association could pay out $2.9
billion in damages over 10 years to resolve the class-action case.

Former Oregon State and Nebraska coach Mike Riley has been named to
the College Football Playoff selection committee. Riley will replace
Pat Chun, who stepped down when he became athletic director at
Washington in March. Riley coached 48 years at the college and pro
levels. He was head coach at Oregon State (1997-98 and 2003-14) and
Nebraska (2015-17). He also has coached in five different pro
leagues, including in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers
(1999-2001). Most recently he was coach of the USFL’s New Jersey
Generals (2022-23).

Donovan Mitchell scored 39 points, Caris LeVert added 15 and the

to pit and gave Norris the lead. The 24-year-old driver for McLaren
then controlled the race to give the organization its first win since
