The 26th ranked Barton Community College men's golf team opened its spring season Monday and Tuesday at the Oakwood Intercollegiate held at Oakwood Country Club in Enid, Oklahoma.
The Cougars were slow out of the gate, posting an opening round 327 before improving over their next two trips around the course with an afternoon 314 followed by Tuesday's ninth-best round of 300.
Barton's late push came against a deep field, highlighted by a collection of nationally ranked NJCAA programs alongside NCAA Division II and NAIA competition.
Sophomore Wintakorn Suwanmuang again led Barton's lineup, opening with matching rounds of 77-77 on Monday before closing with a 78 to finish tied for 59th in the 90-player field at 19-over par 232.
Phattarapol Ongla also finished in the four-man tie for 59th but took a different route to get there. Opening with a Monday morning round of 84, the freshman improved to a 75 in the afternoon before firing a closing round 73 to climb fourteen spots on the leaderboard.
Carding rounds of 86 and 83 on day one, freshman Kobey Jackson made the biggest move for the Cougars, posting a final-round 1-over par 72 to vault fifteen spots into a tie for 84th at 28-over par 241.
Making a six-spot climb with a closing 77, Landon Timmermeyer placed tied for 87th, one stroke back at 29-over par 242, following rounds of 84 and 81 on Monday.
Matteu Cauvin-Piacentini rounded out the Cougars' five entries with a trio of consistent rounds (82-81-81), placing tied for 93rd at 31-over par 244.
Barton will have a few weeks to fine-tune its game in preparation for the KJCCC Championships taking place April 13-14 at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton.
