The folks at Pro Football Focus have been gradually publishing&nbsp;their positional rankings ahead of the 2025 campaign, and now that they're complete, no team featured more players with a No. 1 ranking than the Kansas City Chiefs.

Kansas City landed three players atop PFF's various positional rankings, which sought to identify the top players at every position heading into next season: quarterback Patrick Mahomes, center Creed Humphrey and defensive tackle Chris Jones.

The Chiefs were one of four teams to feature multiple players with a No. 1 ranking, joining the Philadelphia Eagles (2), San Francisco 49ers (2) and Baltimore Ravens (2).

The Chiefs nearly had a fourth player with a No. 1 ranking, too, as cornerback Trent McDuffie landed at No. 3 in PFF's positional rankings behind only Gardner and the Denver Broncos' Pat Surtain II.

Chiefs Lead the NFL with Three Top-Ranked Players in PFF's Positional Rankings

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Falling behind three goals after 20 minutes, the Edmonton Oilers scored three of their own over the next 20 to erase their deficit. They took the lead, only to give up the tying goal to the Florida Panthers in the final seconds of regulation to send another game between the hockey heavyweights to overtime.

Riding the waves of emotion through what’s turning into an&nbsp;epic showdown in the Stanley Cup Final, the Oilers beat the Panthers 5-4 in Game 4 on Thursday night to tie the series on Leon Draisaitl’s NHL playoff-record fourth OT goal.

“Games like that, it’s exhausting — it’s a roller coaster,” Edmonton coach&nbsp;Kris Knoblauch&nbsp;said. “Two good teams playing as hard as they are, playing the right way. Obviously with what’s on the line, it’s stressful. There’s a lot on the line, but it is fun and I think our guys are having fun, enjoying this moment.”

They’re enjoying it much more tied at two games apiece than they would have down 3-1 and on the brink of losing to Florida in the final for a second consecutive year. They go home to Western Canada for Game 5 on Saturday night all even.

“Better than it could have been, but obviously a long way to go,” said Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who scored the Oilers’ first goal in Game 4. “We’re just excited to get back home and play in front of our fans, and Saturday night is going to be pretty fun.”

Draisaitl’s goal 11:18 into OT — the fourth session of extra hockey between these teams — came after Jake Walman put Edmonton ahead with six minutes left in the third period and Sam Reinhart tied it for Florida with 19.5 seconds left.

“That’s what we do: We’re a resilient group,” said Draisaitl,&nbsp;who also scored to win Game 1&nbsp;in OT. “We’re never going to quit no matter what. We’ll take it and go home.”

The Oilers became the first road team to rally from down three to win a game in the final since the Montreal Canadiens against the Seattle Metropolitans in 1919. Only six teams have come back from down three in the final, the last time in 2006.

Edmonton fell behind 3-0 in the first period on a pair of goals by Matthew Tkachuk and another with 41.7 seconds left from Anton Lundell, which could have been a backbreaker.

Knoblauch pulled Stuart Skinner after his starter allowed those three goals on 17 shots in the first, when the ice was tilted against him and his teammates did not have much of a pushback. In went Calvin Pickard, the journeyman backup who won all six of his starts this playoffs before getting injured, and he stopped the first 18 shots he faced with some more big saves coming in overtime before Draisaitl scored.

Pickard’s play paved the way for the once-in-a-century comeback, with Nugent-Hopkins, Darnell Nurse and Vasily Podkolzin all scoring in the second. The Oilers held on, went ahead on Walman’s goal and dealt with more adversity when Reinhart sent it to overtime — the first final since 2013 with three of the first four games needing extra hockey and the fifth all time.

“There were chances everywhere,” Tkachuk said. “Both teams had good looks. I mean, one of their players it hits off a skate and hits the post. We got lucky there. It’s a game of inches.”

Leon Draisaitl scores in OT again, Oilers beat Panthers 5-4 in Game 4 to tie Stanley Cup Final

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Pablo Reyes stumbled, stopped and still&nbsp;scrambled home safely on a wild play&nbsp;in the eighth inning Thursday night, taking advantage of a throwing error by reliever Lucas Erceg to give the New York Yankees a 1-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals.

New York completed a three-game sweep to finish 6-0 against the Royals this season after eliminating them 3-1 in their best-of-five playoff series last October.

Backed by some&nbsp;brilliant defense,&nbsp;Will Warren and four relievers combined on a five-hitter as the AL East-leading Yankees (42-25) moved a season-high 17 games over .500. They have the best road record in the majors at 21-13.

Mark Leiter Jr. (4-3) got one out for the win, and Devin Williams earned his ninth save with a perfect ninth. He threw a called third strike past Jac Caglianone to end it, freezing the touted rookie with a full-count fastball.

The game was interrupted by rain for 28 minutes in the top of the sixth.

With two on and two outs in the eighth, Paul Goldschmidt lined a single off the glove of leaping first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino. He tracked down the ball behind him and threw to Erceg (1-2) covering first, but Goldschmidt beat the play.

Reyes lost his balance coming around third, changed direction twice and then slid home safely when Erceg bounced his throw to the plate.

Both starters pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings. Seth Lugo allowed just two hits, while Warren permitted four.

Pasquantino extended his hitting streak to a career-high 12 games and his on-base streak to a career-best 27 games.

New York rested Aaron Judge, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Austin Wells, who were a combined 7 for 23 with three homers and 10 RBIs in the first two games of the series.

The Royals squandered two excellent chances to take their first lead of the series. In the second inning, they had runners on first and second with nobody out. In the fifth, they had a runner at third with one out.

New York swept a season series from the Royals for the third time in their 57-year history. ... The Yankees have won 19 of the past 20 series between the teams.

Yankees LHP Ryan Yarbrough (3-1, 4.17 ERA) faces Boston LHP Garrett Crochet (6-4, 2.35) in the opener of a three-game series Friday night at Fenway Park.

Skaggs’ former agent, Ryan Hamill, said in a deposition that Skaggs told him he was using pain pills containing oxycodone, which were provided by Miley. The deposition is part of a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Skaggs’ family against the Angels in California. A former publicist for the Angels, Eric Kay, was convicted in Texas of providing the fentanyl-laced pills that an autopsy said contributed to Skaggs’ death.

Democrats say Republican-led draft legislation would claw back freedoms won by athletes through years of litigation against the NCAA. Three House committees are considering legislation that would create a national standard for name, image and likeness payments to athletes and protect the NCAA against future lawsuits. NCAA President Charlie Baker has said he supports the draft legislation. But there was little indication that any bill advanced by the House would generate enough Democratic support to surpass the 60-vote threshold in the Senate.

Hellebuyck finished ahead of Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl and Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov in Hart voting by members of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association. He was a landslide winner of the Vezina as chosen by general managers. Los Angeles captain Anze Kopitar won the Lady Byng for sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct for a third time.

OAKMONT, Pa. (AP) — Another round like this, and Brooks Koepka should be back for the weekend in a major. After missing the cut at the Masters and PGA Championship, Koepka shot a 2-under 68 in the first round of the U.S. Open at Oakmont. That left him in a tie for third, two strokes behind leader J.J. Spaun. Koepka made a 42-foot putt for eagle on the par-5 fourth. After falling back to even par, he finished with birdies on Nos. 17 and 18.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski insisted he didn’t realize he had a no-hitter going when the 23-year-old flamethrower took the mound for the sixth inning of his dazzling major league debut. The Brewers couldn’t quite complete the no-no — but they might have gotten even better news. It appears the injury that knocked the 6-foot-7 right-hander out of the game wasn’t serious. Misiorowski said he felt fine after leaving Milwaukee's 6-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals due to cramping in his right calf and quadriceps.

NEW YORK (AP) — New York Mets ace Kodai Senga left Thursday’s start against the Washington Nationals with a right hamstring strain. Senga allowed just two baserunners through the first 5 1/3 innings before racing to cover first on CJ Abrams’ grounder to Pete Alonso. Senga made a leaping grab of Alonso’s high throw and touched the bag with his right foot on his way down. But the 32-year-old right-hander stumbled upon landing and reached for the back of his right leg before hopping and eventually tumbling to the ground. Senga was visited by his interpreter, an athletic trainer and manager Carlos Mendoza before being surrounded by teammates. The major league ERA leader got up and walked off the field on his own, albeit with a slight limp.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Every time Indiana has lost a game in the last three months, it simply has come back to win the next one.

Even in the NBA Finals — against a huge favorite who the Pacers now have in some trouble.

Bennedict Mathurin scored 27 points off the bench, Tyrese Haliburton finished with 22 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds, and the Pacers retook the lead in the NBA Finals by beating the Oklahoma City Thunder 116-107 in Game 3 on Wednesday night.

“This is the kind of team that we are,” Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said. “We need everybody to be ready. It’s not always going to be exactly the same guys that are stepping up with scoring and stuff like that. But this is how we’ve got to do it.”

Pascal Siakam scored 21 for Indiana, which enjoyed a whopping 49-18 edge in bench points. The Pacers, who lost Game 2 in Oklahoma City, improved to 10-0 since mid-March in the game immediately following a loss.

“So many different guys chipped in,” Haliburton said.

Jalen Williams scored 26 points, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added 24 and Chet Holmgren had 20 for the Thunder, who led by five going into the fourth.

Game 4 is back in Indiana on Friday night.

“We had a lot of good stretches of the game,” Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said. “But they had more good stretches than we did — and outplayed us over the course of 48 minutes.”

History says the Pacers are in control now; in the 41 previous NBA Finals that were tied at a game apiece, the Game 3 winner went on to hoist the trophy 33 times — an 80.5% clip.

It was back-and-forth much of the way. There were 15 ties; to put that in perspective, there were 13 ties in the five-game entirety of last year’s finals between Boston and Dallas. The last time there was a finals game with more ties: Game 1 between Cleveland in Golden State in 2018, which was knotted 17 times.

TJ McConnell finished with 10 points, five assists and five steals for Indiana; since all those stats started being charted, nobody had ever come off the bench and done all that in an NBA Finals game.

“We just had guys make plays after plays,” Haliburton said. “Our bench was amazing.”

The Thunder were 61-2 when leading going into the fourth quarter in the regular season. They’re 1-2 when leading going into the fourth quarter in this series. Indiana — at home in an NBA Finals game for the first time in 25 years,&nbsp;with Caitlin Clark, Reggie Miller, Oscar Robertson&nbsp;and many other stars in the crowd — simply owned the final 12 minutes.

Indiana outscored OKC 32-18 in the fourth, holding the Thunder to 35% shooting with the game and control of the series on the line.

“There’s a lot of areas we can clean up,” Holmgren said. “Everybody who stepped out there can be better.”

Game 3: Pacers rally in the 4th, beat Thunder 116-107 to take 2-1 lead in NBA Finals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Aaron Judge homered for the third consecutive game, Clarke Schmidt allowed just two hits over six innings, and the New York Yankees cruised to a 6-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night.

Paul Goldschmidt added a pair of RBIs during a five-run second inning for New York, which improved to 5-0 against the Royals this season. The Yankees are are 12-3 against them since the start of last season, including their playoff series win.

Salvador Perez hit a two-run homer during a three-run ninth for Kansas City.

Schmidt (3-3) allowed one runner to reach second base, and that was courtesy of his own balk that advanced Maikel Garcia in the first inning. He also struck out seven to remain unbeaten in six regular-season appearances against the Royals. Devin Williams got the final two outs for his eighth save.

Kris Bubic (5-4) looked like he might be in for a duel with Schmidt after a perfect first inning. But he proceeded to allow five runs on four hits and two walks during the second, and ultimately six hits and four walks in just 4 1/3 innings.

Judge's homer off Steven Cruz came on the heels of a two-homer game Sunday against Boston and a 469-foot shot in the series opener against Kansas City on Tuesday night. The two-time MVP has eight RBIs over the three-game span.

Until Perez's homer, the biggest highlight for the Royals came in the fifth inning, when the Yankees loaded the bases with one out. Pending approval from the Barton Community College Board of Trustees at their meeting later this month, Jim Cartisser is expected to become the volleyball program's next head coach.

Cartisser comes to Great Bend after spending 18 seasons at the College of Southern Idaho including the last six seasons as head coach leading the Golden Eagles to a 118-61 overall record.

"Jim comes to Barton a proven winner!" remarked Barton Athletic Director Trevor Rolfs. "His background and resume in collegiate volleyball speaks for itself. We look forward to Coach Cartisser arriving in Great Bend to guide Barton Volleyball to NJCAA prominence."

Serving the first twelve seasons as an assistant, the last eight assisting his late wife Heidi, the duo led the Golden Eagles to a trio of NJCAA national titles and a national runner-up finish.

During his tenure as the Head Coach, the Golden Eagles claimed another NJCAA Championship in 2018 as Cartisser was named both the AVCA and NJCAA Coach of the Year.

A native of Oregon, the love of volleyball started on the sand courts carrying onto the hard court collegiately competing for Portland State University's club team.

Entering the collegiate coaching ranks in 1994, Cartisser has served as either a head or assistant coach throughout his career, along with coaching multiple club team programs.

Cartisser inherits an expected reloaded Cougar squad assembled by Megan Besecker prior to her departure taking over the reigns of NCAA Division II Pittsburg State University.

The 2024 Cougars captured their second straight KJCCC title on the way to their 24th NJCAA National Tournament appearance, finishing 4th in the nation at 33-4 overall.

An attorney representing the women says the settlement violates Title IX, the federal law that bans sex-based discrimination in education. The attorney says female athletes are being deprived of $1.1 billion.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — When the 2026 World Cup begins across North America one year from this week, sports figures from across Los Angeles are hoping the global soccer community will find the U.S. both inspiring and welcoming. The Fox network marked the one-year milestone Wednesday night with a big party at its studio lot in Century City. The attendees all expressed excitement about the return of the world’s premier soccer tournament to the U.S. while acknowledging the uncertainty of whether the nation’s fraught political climate could present challenges to the teams, the World Cup organizers and the network that will broadcast the tournament domestically.

DENVER (AP) — Deion Sanders posted on social media that “everything is OKAY” after not being able to attend football camps in Boulder, Colorado, so far this spring. The Colorado coach’s health has come into question because of his extended absence. Sanders thanked al the well wishers on X for all their thoughts and prayers. He added that once he arrives back in Boulder he will give updates. The 57-year-old Sanders has dealt with issues surrounding his left foot since having two toes amputated in 2021 because of blood clot issues while at Jackson State.

BOSTON (AP) — Red Sox rookie Hunter Dobbins made some headlines prior to his first career start against the Yankees last week when he said he’d rather retire than pitch for New York. Now he’s explaining why the claims he made about his father once playing in the minors for Boston’s longtime rival aren’t the intentional fabrication that a New York newspaper report says. Dobbins says the references he made stemmed from stories passed along from his father when he was a kid and nothing more. He says he understands the fervor his comments created and says his focus now is on his upcoming matchup with the Yankees this weekend.

Fitzgerald led Kansas to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014 this past season, while overseeing a truly historic season in Lawrence. The Jayhawks set program records in Big 12 wins (20), conference wins (20), conference series wins (seven), conference series sweeps (five), road wins (20), come-from-behind wins (26) and home runs (104)."This contract is a reflection of&nbsp;Dan Fitzgerald's remarkable impact during his time in Lawrence," Goff said. Fitzgerald, who has 99 victories over his first three seasons as the Kansas coach, won his debut in February of 2023 with a 5-1 victory over Valparaiso. Fitzgerald's fingerprints were all over KU's early success in his first season. The Jayhawks ultimately won 25 games and doubled their conference win total and improved their overall win total by five games. Kansas also tied a program record with 75 home runs, taking advantage of Fitzgerald's offensive background.

The first season under Fitzgerald also boasted a seven-game winning streak, which included a series win at No. 19 West Virginia.&nbsp;Kodey Shojinaga&nbsp;was named Big 12 Co-Freshman of the Year under Fitzgerald's tutelage and the Jayhawks upset No. 1 seed and nationally ranked Texas in the opening round of the Big 12 Championship.

The Jayhawks took another positive step in Fitzgerald's second season. Landing the No. 1 junior college recruiting class for the second straight year, Kansas assembled the No. 9 overall transfer class in the country per D1Baseball and the best class in the Big 12 Conference.

Kansas finished year two of the Fitzgerald era with a 31-23 (15-15 Big 12) record and made it to the semifinals of the Big 12 Championship for the first time in 11 years. &nbsp;Fitzgerald and his staff once again produced the Big 12 Freshman of the Year in&nbsp;Dominic Voegele.

Shojinaga and Voegele won the award in back-to-back years after the Jayhawks had never had a prior winner. KU won a series against No. 3 TCU, marking the first series win against a top-five ranked opponent since 2010 and the 15 Big 12 wins tied a program record.

Following the season, Kansas produced six draft picks, which marked the most KU players selected in the top 20 rounds of an MLB Draft in program history. Two others signed professional contracts, giving KU eight players from the 2024 roster moving on to play professional baseball, marking the most players in a single year in program history.

All that set up an incredibly memorable season in Lawrence in 2025. &nbsp;The Jayhawks opened the year by winning their first eight games of the season to equal their best start to a season in 11 years. Kansas then tied an NCAA record in March when it hit five consecutive home runs at Minnesota en route to a 17-3 start—the best 20-game start in 135 seasons of Kansas baseball.

Five days after the five homers at Minnesota, Kansas was ranked No. 22 in the NCBWA Top 25 poll, marking the first national ranking for the Jayhawks since 2014. The Jayhawk faithful rewarded the team's efforts by setting a Hoglund Ballpark attendance record on March 28 against Oklahoma State with 2,660 fans. That game came in the middle of a nine-game winning streak, which is tied for the longest winning streak of the Fitzgerald era to this point. &nbsp;The Jayhawks never relented the rest of the season, winning five of their final six conference games, including a three-game sweep at No. 14 West Virginia to close the regular season and finish with a 20-10 record in the Big 12 to lead all conference teams in Big 12 victories. PITTSBURGH (AP) — Aaron Rodgers says his decision to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers is centered on his love for the game. The four-time NFL MVP signed a one-year deal to join the Steelers earlier this month and joined his new teammates on the field for the opening day of minicamp. The 41-year-old Rodgers spent most of his time getting to know his surroundings, but head coach Mike Tomlin said Rodgers is the team's starting quarterback. Judge’s two-run homer had an exit velocity of 117.9 mph, tying it for the third-hardest hit ball in the majors. It was his 24th of the season, and came two days after the two-time and reigning MVP hit a pair of homers in a loss to the Red Sox. Judge hit one 468 earlier this seaosn. Mike Trout has the longest homer at 484 feet, while Angels teammate Logan O'Hoppe hit one 470.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Oklahoma City Thunder showed their bounce-back capability in Game 2. The Indiana Pacers know they better do the same in Game 3. The NBA Finals resume Wednesday night with the series tied at a game apiece, the matchup shifting to Indianapolis for what will be the first finals game in that city in 25 years. And the Pacers know it’s on them to respond after Game 2 wasn’t much of a contest. It’s obviously possible: The Pacers haven’t lost back-to-back games in three months, going 9-0 after losses in that span. This would be a good time for them to extend that run.

(AP) — New England Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs is declining to share specifics about his conversations with coach Mike Vrabel and the team in the aftermath of a viral video that showed him passing what appeared to be a bag of pink crystals to women on a boat last month. FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Micah Parsons has shown up for mandatory minicamp with the Dallas Cowboys. He had about a 30-minute conversation with owner Jerry Jones on the practice field while his teammates were going through drills. Royals to Host Yankees in three-game series

A slow start in 2025 for Kansas City Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino has largely been forgotten.

Since Apr. 30, the day after his season OPS reached a dismal .544, Pasquantino has slashed .359/.404/.531 across 36 games. He's led the team with seven home runs in that time frame, and on Saturday, he became the first Royal to hit double-digit home runs for the season.

More recently, Pasquantino went 13-for-26 (.500 AVG) in the Royals' six games last week. That kind of performance will turn heads, and the 27-year-old fan favorite got some well-deserved recognition.

On Monday, Pasquantino was named the American League's Player of the Week by Major League Baseball. New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso took home the honor in the National League.

Ironically enough, Pasquantino won the award the first week the Royals batted him in the cleanup spot of the order, shifting him down one place from his usual number-three slot.

“Vinnie has been swinging the bat really well for like six, seven weeks now,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said this weekend,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kansascity.com/sports/mlb/kansas-city-royals/article308248615.html" target="_blank">per Jaylon Thompson</a>&nbsp;of the Kansas City Star. “I don’t know if that has much to do with where he is hitting in the order. If it does, good, but he has been on a pretty good hot streak here for a while now.”

Pasquantino's final slash line for the week was .500/.536/.769 (1.305 OPS). He added two home runs, a double, four runs, and seven RBI.

With the New York Yankees coming to town, the Royals are looking to avenge their postseason loss from 2024. There's no better time for Pasquantino to be on fire, though he'll have to contend with tough lefty Max Fried on Tuesday night.

Royals' Vinnie Pasquantino named AL Player of the Week

The eight-team field for the 2025 College World Series is complete with Murray State beating Duke on Monday night to earn the final spot.

The Racers are the fourth No. 4 seed to make it to Omaha since the NCAA Tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1999, joining Fresno State in 2008, Stony Brook in 2012 and Oral Roberts in 2023. Fresno State went on to win the national championship.

Murray State, out of the Missouri Valley Conference, joins a geographically diverse field that includes two teams from the SEC (Arkansas and LSU) and one each from the ACC (Louisville), Big 12 (Arizona), Big Ten (UCLA) and Sun Belt (Coastal Carolina) as well as one independent (Oregon State).

Friday: Arizona vs. Coastal Carolina, 2 p.m. (ET); Louisville vs. Oregon State, 7 p.m. (ET)

Saturday: UCLA vs. Murray State, 2 p.m. (ET); LSU vs. Arkansas, 7 p.m. (ET)

Only three of the eight national seeds and five of the top 16 seeds overall advanced to the College World Series. That’s down from five of eight and seven of 16 in last year’s field.

The national seeds to advance: No. 3 Arkansas, No. 6 LSU and No. 8 Oregon State.

Other top-16 seeds to advance: No. 13 Coastal Carolina and No. 15 UCLA.

Top seed Vanderbilt, No. 2 seed Texas and No. 7 seed Georgia each failed to get out of the Regional round, while No. 4 seed Auburn and No. 5 seed North Carolina lost in the Super Regionals.

There will not be a repeat champion as Tennessee, the No. 14 seed, lost to Arkansas in the Super Regionals. The last repeat champ was South Carolina in 2010 and 2011.

Also, there is a completely new field in 2025. None of the teams from the 2024 CWS are back in Omaha.

LSU is a slight betting favorite over Arkansas to win the CWS, but the pick here is Arkansas. The Hogs hit a few speed bumps late in the season — losing four of five series during one stretch — but this is the most complete team in the country. The lineup is balanced and powerful (seven players have at least 13 home runs), and the pitching staff is as deep and versatile as any in college baseball.

Arkansas is making its 12th trip to the CWS but has yet to win a national title. That drought will end this season.

The role of center is often an under-the-radar job in the NFL, but thanks to the folks at Pro Football Focus, Creed Humphrey is once again getting the credit that he deserves.

Humphrey was named as the league's top center&nbsp;<a href="https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-center-rankings-top-32-ahead-of-2025-nfl-season">in PFF’s positional rankings last week,</a>&nbsp;marking the third-straight year in which he topped these particular rankings.

Here's what Mason Cameron, who compiled the rankings, wrote about Humphrey:

"Since stepping foot on an NFL field in 2021, Humphrey has not only been the most productive center but also the most productive offensive lineman in the NFL, period. His 2.05 PFF WAR over the past four seasons is the highest figure among all offensive linemen, and his 94.9 cumulative PFF overall grade ranks second, behind only Trent Williams."
