and Tyler Stephenson homered to lead the Cincinnati Reds to a 7-4 win
over the Kansas City Royals. Martinez (3-5) allowed three singles
through six shutout innings and finished seven innings allowing three
runs on six hits with two strikeouts and no walks Stephenson hit a
two-run homer in the fifth inning, his second of the season, boosting
the Reds’ lead to 6-0. Stephenson had three of Cincinnati’s 14
hits. Michael Lorenzen (3-6) allowed six runs on a career-high 11
hits with three walks and two strikeouts in five innings.


BALTIMORE (AP) — Dylan Carlson hit a three-run homer against his
former team, Charlie Morton earned his first victory with Baltimore,
and the Orioles achieved their first three-game winning streak of the
season, beating the St. Louis Cardinals 5-2. Carlson’s drive in the
fourth off Erick Fedde put the Orioles up 5-0. Morton took a shutout
into the fifth before allowing a two-run shot by Pedro Pagés. The
41-year-old right-hander allowed four hits in six innings after
losing his first six starts of the season. He’d pitched mostly in
relief lately.


MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had 40 points, 10
rebounds and nine assists in a steely performance befitting the NBA
MVP and the Oklahoma City Thunder snapped back from a 42-point loss
by beating the Minnesota Timberwolves 128-126 in Game 4 to take a 3-1
lead in the Western Conference finals. Jalen Williams scored 34
points on 13-for-24 shooting, including 6 of 9 from 3-point range.
Chet Holmgren added 21 points, seven rebounds and three blocks in a
statement game in his hometown that helped the Thunder stave off
several pushes by the Wolves to tie the series.


INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Tyrese Haliburton’s father will be allowed to
attend Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals, meaning his ban from
attending Pacers games following an on-court confrontation with
Giannis Antetokounmpo earlier in the playoffs has ended. John
Haliburton is expected to be seated in a suite Tuesday night when the
Pacers host the Knicks, in hopes of avoiding a repeat of what
happened in the first round against the Bucks. John Haliburton ran
onto the court and yelled in Antetokounmpo’s face after his son
made a last-second layup in overtime to eliminate the Bucks. Game 6
against the Knicks would be in Indianapolis, if necessary.


SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Frederik Andersen returned to the net and
stopped 20 shots for his fifth career playoff shutout, Logan
Stankoven got the only goal Carolina needed and the Hurricanes won
their first Eastern Conference finals game in nearly 20 years by
beating the Florida Panthers 3-0 on Monday night to stave off
elimination. Sebastian Aho and Jordan Staal got empty-netters to seal
it for the Hurricanes. They had dropped 15 consecutive East finals
games, getting swept in 2009, 2019 and 2023, then dropping the first
three games of this matchup. No sweep this time, however. Carolina
still trails the series 3-1. Game 5 is Wednesday.


INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — There’s a long list of driving greats who
have passed through Chip Ganassi Racing over its 35 years in
existence. Jimmy Vasser, Alex Zanardi and Juan Pablo Montoya gave
Ganassi four consecutive championships. Scott Dixon teamed with Dario
Franchitti to restart another four-year title streak. Marcus Ericsson
won Ganassi his fifth Indianapolis 500 victory in 2022. Now he has
Alex Palou on his roster, and as he leaned to kiss the first Spaniard
to ever win the Indy 500, Ganassi had a message for him. “You’re

Conference is hearing an increased amount of interest from his
league’s leaders about a previously little-discussed idea of
expanding the College Football Playoff from 12 to 16 teams. The
future of the playoff will be among the topics discussed among school
presidents, athletic directors and coaches in what might be the most
consequential of the many conference meetings taking place this
spring.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Nick Martinez worked seven strong innings and Tyler Stephenson homered to lead the Cincinnati Reds to a 7-4 win over the Kansas City Royals on Monday.

Martinez (3-5) allowed three singles through six shutout innings and finished seven innings allowing three runs on six hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

Stephenson hit a two-run homer to left in the fifth inning, his second of the season, boosting the Reds' lead to 6-0. Stephenson had three of Cincinnati’s 14 hits.

Michael Lorenzen (3-6) allowed six runs on a career-high 11 hits with three walks and two strikeouts in five innings as the Royals lost for the third time in four games.

Cincinnati jumped ahead 1-0 in the first on TJ Friedl’s leadoff double and Austin Hays’ sacrifice fly. The Reds lead the majors with 46 first-inning runs and have outscored opponents 46-21 in the first.

Gavin Lux and Stephenson drove in runs with two of the Reds five singles in the third inning before Will Benson added a sacrifice fly for a 4-0 lead.

Salvador Perez hit a first-pitch, two-run homer in the seventh, snapping Martinez’s homerless streak at 42 2/3 innings. Nick Loftin added a sacrifice fly, cutting Kansas City's deficit to 6-3.

Vinnie Pasquantino had three hits and extended his hitting streak to 10 games, including four straight with multiple hits. Maikel Garcia extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

After playing shortstop for all but three innings this season, Elly De La Cruz was the designated hitter, with Garrett Hampson making his first start at short.

Making his major league debut, John Rave bunted for a hit, putting runners at the corners with no outs in the seventh. Cleveland challenged the safe call at first, which was overturned and Martinez retired the next two batters, escaping the inning.

Martinez needed just 67 pitches to shut out the Royals for six innings.

Former Royals RHP Brady Singer (5-3, 4.88) takes the mound for Cincinnati, while Kansas City did not announce a starter for Tuesday.

“What an absolutely amazing feeling,” said U.S. coach Ryan Warsofsky of the San Jose Sharks. “Everyone in our group contributed to winning the gold medal. We beat an excellent team in Switzerland tonight and full credit to them for the tournament they had ... We’ll remember this for a long, long time.”

In 1933, the United States beat Canada 2-1 in the final in Prague. The Americans also were formally awarded the title in 1960, when they won the Olympics in Squaw Valley and the worlds did not take place.

“It’s been a long time coming," Vancouver forward Drew O’Connor said. "U.S. hockey has been growing and getting better every year. We haven’t had success here, but you’ve seen it in the world juniors and things like that.”

Utah's Logan Cooley and Nashville's Brady Skjei assisted on the goal. Boston goalie Jeremy Swayman made 25 saves to finish 7-0 in the tournament.

“We did it, the wait is over,” Swayman said on social media. “Thanks for sticking along with us. It’s going to be a great summer.”

Vancouver's Conor Garland failed on a penalty shot early in the second.

Garcia drove a 0-2 pitch from Jhoan Duran (3-1) into left field, scoring automatic runner Nick Loftin. Michael Massey struck out swinging and Freddy Fermin bounced to third before Garcia delivered.

Carlos Estévez (2-0) retired each of his four batters — two by strikeouts — to get the win. Taylor Clarke worked the 10th for his first save this season.

Kris Bubic struck out nine in seven sparkling innings for Kansas City. He allowed two hits and walked two, continuing his breakout season.

Ryan Jeffers hit a leadoff double for Minnesota in the first, and Ty France followed with an RBI single.

The 27-year-old Bubic is 3-1 with a 1.22 ERA in his last seven starts. Bubic’s 1.45 ERA in 11 starts this season is second among qualified pitchers behind the Yankees’ Max Fried at 1.29.

Minnesota right-hander Bailey Ober permitted one run and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Fermin drove in Drew Waters with a two-out double in the seventh.

The Twins lost for just the third time in their last 19 games.

Fermin's tying double in the seventh came on a 0-2 pitch from Ober.

The Twins entered Sunday with walk-off wins in three straight and four of their last five home games.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Brooks Lee hit an RBI single with two outs in the ninth inning to give the Minnesota Twins their second straight walk off against the Kansas City Royals, this time overcoming a four-run deficit for a 5-4 win on Saturday.

Harrison Bader and Kody Clemens homered for Minnesota, which won for the 16th time in 18 games.

Pinch-hitter Carlos Correa walked against Daniel Lynch IV (3-1) to open the Minnesota ninth and advanced to second two batters later when pinch-hitter Ryan Jeffers also walked. With Steven Cruz pitching, Lee grounded a ball up the middle for his first career walk-off hit.

Ty France hit a&nbsp;two-run home run&nbsp;in the ninth in the Twins 3-1 win on Friday.

Minnesota closer Jhoan Duran (3-0) pitched a scoreless ninth for the win.

Vinnie Pasquantino had three hits for Kansas City, which struck out a season-high 18 times. Bobby Witt Jr. tied a career high with four of those.

Pasquantino had an RBI double and Salvador Perez an RBI single in the fifth for a 4-0 Kansas City lead, but Bader homered and France had a two-out, two-run single in the inning to get the Twins within 4-3.

Clemens tied the game with a home run leading off the sixth against Royals’ starter Michael Wacha, who allowed seven hits and four earned runs in five-plus innings.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the ninth, Kansas City’s Drew Waters bounced back to Duran to end the threat.

In his second start since being recalled from Triple-A last Sunday, Minnesota’s Zebby Matthews needed 81 pitches to get through four innings. The right-hander allowed two earned runs on five hits but struck out a career-high nine.

Clinching the program's 12th Jayhawk West Title, the No. 19 ranked Barton Community College baseball team was recognized over the past week as eight different Cougars garnered Jayhawk West and/or Region 6 honors this season.

Catcher Ayden Hadley, designated hitter Kyle Walker and starting pitcher Antonio Mendez headlined the eight individual awards with First Team All-KJCCC West and All-Region 6 honors.

Balanced throughout the lineup all season long two of the selections came on the second team, shortstop Hunter Alvord and outfielder Tate Blasi while second baseman Kyle Graves collected All-Region 6 Gold Glove honors leading a trio on the honorable mention team joined by outfielder Wyatt Yetter, and relief pitcher Andrew McCarthy.

Ayden Hadley – First-Team All-KJCCC West | First-Team All-Region 6 (Catcher)

Hadley, a third-year sophomore from Langley, British Columbia, Canada ranked inside the top three in almost every offensive category for the Cougars as the catcher finished second on the team with a .379 batting average.

For the season Hadley led Barton's run production with 64 RBIs for seventh best in the region. He ranked second on the team with 65 hits, 38 going for extra bases behind his team and region leading eight triples (fourth most in single season), 20 doubles ranking seventh in the region (10th most in single season) and 10 home runs (10th most in single season) for second most in the Cougar lineup.

Hadley recorded 22-multi-hit games, 17-multi-RBI games and trio of five or more RBIs to lead the club while also producing a season long hitting streak of 13 games and 30-game streak of reaching base safely. 

The sophomore collected the week 10 Jayhawk West and NJCAA National Player of the Week honors following a .476 week at the plate with eight hits going for extra bases, driving in 17 runs and a pair of five RBI performances.

Kyle Walker – First Team All-KJCCC West | First Team All-Region 6 (Designated Hitter)

A freshman utility player from Topeka, Kansas, Walker hit a team high and region's fifth best .420 at the plate this season with 55 total hits. He had 17 doubles for the team's second most to go along with a triple and three home runs all coming on his birthday in Barton's series opening 14-4 win at Garden City.

Walker had a .634 slugging percentage, and .487 on-base percentage highlighted behind a season best 20 game on-base streak. He drew 19 walks, scoring 37 times and drove in 43 RBIs.

Antonio Mendez – First Team All-KJCCC West | Second Team All-Region 6 (Starting Pitcher)

Mendez made an instant impact to the Cougar pitching staff as the freshman from Lansing, Kansas, quickly sustained his spot in the weekend rotation going 6-1 this season with a save.

Making eight starts and 10 overall appearances, Mendez worked 47.1-innings with a 3.80 ERA before enduring a late season injury sidelining him over the final month.

He had two complete games, one shutout performance against Colby and helped close out Barton's combined opening day no-hitter with starting pitcher Anthony Treto.

Mendez finished with 45 strikeouts to just seven walks while holding opponents to a .249 batting average against. 

He was the week six KJCCC West Pitcher of the week following a seven-inning one run, four hit and eight strikeout performance against Seward County.

Hunter Alvord – Second Team All-KJCCC West (Shortstop)

Transferring for his sophomore season, Alvord immediately filled Barton's void at shortstop playing in 51 of the 52 games while hitting .342 at the dish.

The McPherson, Kansas, product manufactured extra bases on 33 of his 67 hits while driving in 55 both ranking second on the team to Hadley. Alvord broke the Cougars single season record for home runs with 17 sitting atop the Jayhawk West leaders and second throughout the Region.

He legged out three triples, 13 doubles and created 37 walks ranking amongst the top 3 leaders on the club. Alvord swiped 29 bases in 32 chances for fifth best in the region and scored 68 times to lead Barton and rank ninth in the region. 

Alvord concluded the season reaching base safely in 14-straight games falling two-shy of tying his longest of 16-straight while adding 19 multi-hit and 16 multi-RBI performances.

Tate Blasi – Second Team All-KJCCC West (Outfielder)

Blasi another transfer led the team and ranked third in the Jayhawk West in hit-by-pitches wearing the badge of honor 22 times for the fifth most in a single season. The native of Wichita landed inside the team's top 5 in most offensive categories hitting .317 with a .466 on-base percentage and .600 slugging percentage. 

Blasi had 46 hits with eight home runs, three triples, 11 doubles and 32 RBIs. He supplied a pair of 4-RBI games, the first coming behind his lone multi home run performance in Barton's 20-10 victory over then No. 20 Hutchinson.

Patrolling center field, Blasi recorded a .990 fielding percentage, committing just one error in 100 chances and added an outfield assist.

Kyle Graves – Honorable Mention All-KJCCC West (Second Baseman)

A freshman second baseman from Lawrence, Kansas, Graves hit .324 out of the bottom portion of the lineup in 54 games. Graves had 48 total hits with two home runs, four doubles and four triples finishing for third most on the team.

Graves scored 46 runs and had 36 RBIs while stealing 14 bags. 

Rewarded for his defensive play with the programs sixth Region 6 Gold Glove award, Graves fielded at a .971 mark with 84 putouts, 120 assists and helping roll up six twin killers.

Wyatt Yetter – Honorable Mention All-KJCCC West (Outfielder)

The sophomore from Omaha, Nebraska, overcame a sluggish early start, hitting just .167 over his first 14 games, Yetter turned it up a notch, slashing .364 over his final 25 games to conclude the season just shy of .300 with a .299 batting average.

Hitting .323 in Jayhawk West play, Yetter ended the season with seven doubles, one triple and seven home runs to go along with 39 runs scored and 45 RBIs.

Andrew McCarthy – Honorable Mention All-KJCCC West (Relief Pitcher)

A freshman relief pitcher from Gardner, Kansas, McCarthy guided the Cougar bullpen behind a 2-0 record and a 3.62 ERA. McCarthy made a team high 18 appearances working 27.1-innings, permitting 26 hits and 22 runs with 18 strikeouts and 20 walks.

No. 19 Barton Baseball lands eight on the postseason awards list

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Give the Borg-Wiener Trophy at Indianapolis Motor Speedway to the Wienermobile affectionately known as Slaw Dog.

In a down-to-the-wire race among the six iconic Wienermobiles that serve as goodwill ambassadors for Oscar Mayer, the hot dog-on-wheels representing the Southeast proved to be the big dog on Carb Day ahead of Sunday's running of the Indianapolis 500.

It made a dramatic pass of the Wienermobile repping Chicago at the finish line to win the inaugural Wienie 500 on Friday.

“You are standing in a moment in hot dog history right now,” Sarah Oney, who was co-piloting the Wienermobile representing New York with Connor Wolff, told The Associated Press. “This is the first-ever time we have honestly had all six Wienermobiles together and especially at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.”

It was the definition of a wiener-take-all race, too: The driver and co-pilot of the No. 3 dog, who managed to roast the rest of the Wienermobiles on a cool, sunny afternoon, got to stick around for the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500.

The Wienermobiles have been around since 1936 as a promotional vehicle for Oscar Mayer — not to be confused with Louis Meyer, the first three-time winner of the Indy 500. They travel around the country, logging about 20,000 miles annually, though none were probably as important to the hotdoggers on board as the 5 miles they drove on Friday.

Oney and Wolff jumped into the lead when the green flag flew at the historic yard of bricks, and the six Wienermobiles slowly picked up speed until they reached about 65 mph. They were right in each other's grills down the backstretch, and swapped the lead among themselves several times until the second of two laps, when the No. 4 dog led the field out of Turn 2.

That's when smoke began pouring from its rear, and that dog was cooked.

The Wienermobile wearing No. 1 assumed the lead as the field headed onto the front stretch, and a crowd of nearly 80,000 fans who had just watched the final practice for the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500 was standing and cheering.

That's when the Wienermobile from the Southeast, which had doggedly hung around the lead for most of the race, made its big move. It passed the the Wienermobile repping Chicago just in time to relish in the sweet taste of victory.

It might have been the fastest Wieners have gone since Joey Chestnut's heyday on Coney Island.

ARLINGTON, Texas – Kansas baseball dropped its semifinal game of the Big 12 Championship 11-1 to No. 24 TCU on Friday night at Globe Life Field. Kansas will now await its fate for the NCAA Division I baseball tournament.

Cooper Moore started for Kansas and battled through six innings. He suffered the loss after allowing five runs in his outing. A four-run second inning for TCU put the Horned Frogs ahead and they never looked back.

Kansas moved to 43-15 on the season and has the most overall wins in the Big 12 and is tied for the most wins against Big 12 opponents this season with 21 victories.

"I think our best baseball is for sure in front of us," head coach Dan Fitzgerald said. "We've played really well for a really long time and the number of times we've stubbed our toe, you can count them, which is hard to say. We're one of a few teams in the country that has won as consistently as this – 43 wins, 20 in conference, 20 road wins. We've played really consistent baseball. Our best baseball is definitely in front of us and sky's the limit."

• For a second straight day, Kansas got out to a lead in the first inning. Dariel Osoria hit a two-out RBI single to score Derek Cerda and give the Jayhawks a 1-0 lead after one inning.

• TCU (39-17) took the lead in the second inning with a four-run frame. An RBI double by Chase Brunson, RBI single from Anthony Silva and a two-run double by Jack Bell gave the Horned Frogs a 4-1 lead midway through the second.

• The Jayhawks got the first two runners on base via a walk in the fourth inning but were unable to score.

• The Horned Frogs added another run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Cole Cramer. That made it a 5-1 game.

• In the bottom of the fifth, Kansas started the inning with runners on second and third and no outs but could not push any runs across.

No. 21 Kansas Falls in Big 12 Championship Semifinals 11-1 to No. 24 TCU

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Ty France hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning and the Minnesota Twins beat the Kansas City Royals 3-1 on Friday night for their 15th win in 17 games.

With the score 1-1, Carlos Correa reached on an infield single off Lucas Erceg (1-1) and France hit a first-pitch slider 403 feet into the bullpen in left-center for his fourth homer this season.

Correa, who passed concussion protocol and&nbsp;was activated from the 7-day injured list, hit a 429-foot homer in the second against Noah Cameron. Fans at the game received Carlos Correa Jedi bobbleheads.

Cole Sands (3-1) pitched a perfect ninth.

Vinnie Pasquantino had two hits for the Royals, while Cavan Biggio had a double and drove in a run.

Cameron, a 25-year-old left-hander making his third major league start, allowed one run and four hits in 6 2/3 innings while striking out eight and walking one. He has a 0.93 ERA in 19 2/3 innings.

Pablo López gave up one run and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Biggio's first-inning double scored Jonathan India.

With the score 1-1 and two on in the third, López struck out Biggio and retired Drew Waters on a flyout.

Kansas City was 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position, all against López.

Royals RHP Michael Wacha (3-4, 2.86) will face Twins RHP Zebby Matthews (0-1, 12.00) on Saturday.

Panther golf qualifies for 5A state

Cedricka Williams and Trevon Hamer of the Barton Community College track and field program headlined post-season outdoor awards distributed by the U.S. Track &amp; Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Williams was named both the Central Region and National Field Athlete of the Year following a record breaking discus season including resetting her own mark twice at the recent NJCAA Division I Outdoor Championships in Hutchinson.

The national honor is the second straight outdoor distinction for the program as Treneese Hamilton was tabbed the best field athlete of the year last season. Williams is the third Cougar during the 2025 season named the national field athlete of the year, joining jumpers Celine Riddle and Trevon Hamer who each earned the indoor award.

Hamer was named Central Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year following a 31-point performance at the KJCCC/Region 6 Championships including winning both the long and triple jump competitions before capping the meet as a member of the Cougars' 4x400m relay team.

Williams began her National Championships on day one with a personal best hammer throw of 52.79m (173-02) in moving up from the 10th spot to 4th furthest throw in program history.

Two days later, Williams was back in the ring, immediately putting a halt on the discus competition bringing out event officials after launching a national record breaking throw of 60.23m (197-07). Originally setting the nation's top mark as a freshman including the meet record, Williams fouled on her next attempt before unleashing a three feet further throw resetting the national top mark of 61.07m (200-04).

The celebration victory of breaking the record for the 8th time was short lived as Williams was rushed to another venue, was back on the runway within thirty-minutes before capping her Barton career competing in the javelin for just the second time ever to place 10th (36.73m, 120-06) of the 18-competitor field.

Williams' earned the Central Region honor following the conclusion of the KJCCC/Region 6 Championships in Coffeyville. Additionally named the Field Athlete of the Meet, Williams came up short of breaking her national discus record for the then-third straight meet but did break the facility record in leading a Barton 1-2-3 finish in the event. Williams would also punch a national qualifying mark in her javelin debut.

As a squad at the national meet, the women challenged for the title as the program as a whole combined for 23 scoring performances, 4 gold medals, 21 personal or season bests, and 7 modifications of the program record book.

The women's final finish was its second consecutive runner-up placing for its 8th straight year within the Top-5 while the men's 8th placing marked the 9th straight season among the Top-8.

In a corresponding move, Kansas City recalled infielder/outfielder Nick Loftin from Triple-A Omaha.&nbsp;

The 33-year-old Renfroe was slashing .182/.241/.242 with zero home runs in 35 games this season. Renfroe’s playing time dwindled significantly with the lack of production; he wasn’t hitting the ball hard (88.5 mph average exit velocity), and he wasn’t getting on base (7.4% walk rate).&nbsp;

Renfroe&nbsp;signed a two-year, $13 million contract&nbsp;with the Royals ahead of the 2024 season, with the second year being a player option that Renfroe triggered this past offseason. The club will owe him the full $7.5 million he was making this season.&nbsp;

That contract was what led the Royals to continue to give Renfroe a chance as their everyday right fielder in 2025, despite his .689 OPS and 0.0 Baseball-Reference WAR last year. They had hoped a healthy season -- after dealing with toe, back and hamstring injuries last year -- would yield better results.&nbsp;

Renfroe ends his time with Kansas City with a .647 OPS and -1.5 WAR.&nbsp;

Now, both of the options the Royals had hoped would give them more power and middle-order protection are not on the active roster with Renfroe gone and MJ Melendez in Triple-A. Kansas City (28-23) is averaging 3.4 runs per game through 51 games of the season and rank last in the Majors with 32 home runs.&nbsp;

Loftin, 26, is slashing .295/.451/.468 in Triple-A this year, with four homers, 12 doubles and more walks (39) than strikeouts (22).&nbsp;

Two innings later, still knotted at six,&nbsp;Mike Koszewski&nbsp;singled to shallow left with the bases loaded and one out to score&nbsp;Tommy Barth&nbsp;and give Kansas the walk-off victory.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;With the win, No. 2 seeded Kansas (43-14) advanced to the semifinals of the Big 12 Championship, where it will face the winner of TCU and Houston. First pitch is slated for 7:30 p.m., Friday.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
