KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes strolled through Arrowhead Stadium without any issues with his injured right ankle on Thursday, and the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback expects to practice fully in the next 10 days leading up to the Super Bowl.

Mahomes sprained the ankle during the divisional round against Jacksonville, and he was clearly hobbled in last Sunday night's AFC championship win over Cincinnati. But despite taking a couple of hard shots during that game, and his mad dash in the closing seconds to set up the winning field goal, Mahomes came out of it feeling just fine.

“It was a physical game. My whole body was a little sore. But I don't think I had any step backward, a reaggravation of the ankle," Mahomes said. “A little pain playing with it but other than that, I feel like I'm in a good spot.”

The Chiefs sustained a number of other injuries during their 23-20 win over the Bengals, though. They lost three wide receivers — Mecole Hardman reinjured his pelvis, JuJu Smith-Schuster had swelling in his knee and Kadarius Toney sprained his ankle — while cornerback L'Jarius Sneed was in the concussion protocol and Willie Gay Jr. hurt his shoulder.

Gay was the only one that returned to practice on an unseasonably mild February day in Kansas City.

Coach Andy Reid did say that Toney did the morning walk-through and “he's close and doing well,” while Smith-Schuster “is in a good place. The main thing is we let that calm down. We're very optimistic right now."

The news wasn't as positive for Hardman, who first hurt his abdominal area in November. The Chiefs later began to classify it as a pelvis injury as Hardman neared his return from injured reserve, but he wasn't able to make it back onto the field until the AFC title game. He was hurt while getting wrapped up after a catch and did not return.

“Very courageous effort,” Reid said, “and my heart goes out to the kid. He is hurting today.”

While the Chiefs remained thin at wide receiver, they did have Justin Watson back on the practice field. He was ruled out before kickoff against Cincinnati with an illness, forcing Marcus Kemp to come up from the practice squad.

The Chiefs also are hopeful that Sneed will clear the concussion protocol in the two weeks between games.

In a defense featuring three rookie cornerbacks and a rookie safety, Sneed is often tasked with covering the opposition's best wide receiver. It would have been Ja'Marr Chase against the Bengals, but Sneed was hurt on the game's fourth play and did not return; it will likely be A.J. Brown or DeVonta Smith if he can play against the Eagles in the Super Bowl.

Reid also said there's a possibility Clyde Edwards-Helaire, their 2020 first-round pick, will be activated for the big game. Edwards-Helaire had already ceded the No. 1 running back job to rookie Isiah Pacheco before a high ankle sprain landed him on injured reserve in late November, but his versatility could be helpful against a tough Eagles defense.

“He'll practice. We'll see where he's at,” Reid said. “We're just taking it day by day, seeking out how he's feeling, not only during practice but after practice. He'll work today.”

Jaykwon Walton equaled his career high with 24 points for the Shockers (11-11, 4-6), who went 3 for 20 from 3-point range and shot 39% from the field overall.

“I thought the difference in the game was the 3-point line,” Wichita State coach Isaac Brown said. “We went 3 for 20 and, down the stretch, their big man, Walker, was 3 for 6 from the 3-point line and I thought that was the difference in the game.”

James Rojas added 15 points and seven rebounds for the Shockers. Kenny Pohto pulled down 12 boards to go with eight points.

Coming off a career-best 25 points against Cincinnati, Walker shot just 3 for 9 in the first half. But he drained a 3-pointer to trim Houston's deficit to 50-47 with 10:17 remaining, then tied it 54-all with another 3 at the 6:15 mark.

Walker followed with his 3 from the corner that put the Cougars ahead 57-54, and they opened a seven-point cushion with under three minutes left after a layup by Shead and a 3 from Tramon Mark.

“We made some bad mistakes, but when it came winning time, I think our DNA kicked in,” Houston coach Kelvin Sampson said. "We know how to win and there is a lot to be said about that.”

In a matchup between the top two scoring defenses in the AAC, the Cougars held a 30-29 lead at halftime.

Wichita State built a seven-point advantage early in the second half as foul trouble began to pile up for Houston.

court records. According to the warrant, Mixon pointed the gun at the
woman and told her, “You should be popped in the face. I should
shoot you, the police (can’t) get me.” The incident occurred on
Jan. 21, the day before the Bengals beat the Buffalo Bills in a

Cougar Downing of the Barton Community College men's basketball team has been named the Week 11 KJCCC Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

The honor is the first of the season for the Cougars and Downing's third recognition in his two-year Barton career.

Playing another week without the team's leading scorer, Downing played a huge role helping the Cougars to a pair of victories, the first coming on the road at Cowley College followed by Saturday's home win over Hutchinson Community College.

Averaging 23.5 points, four rebounds, the sophomore guard was 13-of-24 from the field including a perfect 18-of-18 from the charity stripe in just 28.5 minutes of court time per game.

Downing opened the week logging 19 points on 5-of-10 shooting while knocking down all eight free throw tosses and hauling in five boards in 34 minutes of action.

Playing with a heavy heart on Saturday, the Olathe, KS native led all scorers with a season high 28 points despite battling foul trouble for much of the second half seeing just 23 minutes of court time. Shooting another efficient 8-of-14 from the field, Downing would connect on 2-of-5 attempts from downtown and net his second straight game shooting 1.000% from the charity stripe sinking in all 10 attempts.

Saturday's victory was the first season Barton has swept the season series over Hutchinson since the 2014-15 campaign.

 </figure>By BRANDON SMITH Barton Sports InfoCougar Downing of the Barton Community College men's basketball team has been named the Week 11 KJCCC Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week.The honor is the first of the season for the Cougars and Downing's third recognition in his two-year Barton career.Playing another week without the team's leading scorer, Downing played a huge role helping the Cougars to a pair of victories, the first coming on the road at Cowley College followed by Saturday's home win over Hutchinson Community College.Averaging 23.5 points, four rebounds, the sophomore guard was 13-of-24 from the field including a perfect 18-of-18 from the charity stripe in just 28.5 minutes of court time per game.Downing opened the week logging 19 points on 5-of-10 shooting while knocking down all eight free throw tosses and hauling in five boards in 34 minutes of action.Playing with a heavy heart on Saturday, the Olathe, KS native led all scorers with a season high 28 points despite battling foul trouble for much of the second half seeing just 23 minutes of court time. Shooting another efficient 8-of-14 from the field, Downing would connect on 2-of-5 attempts from downtown and net his second straight game shooting 1.000% from the charity stripe sinking in all 10 attempts.Saturday's victory was the first season Barton has swept the season series over Hutchinson since the 2014-15 campaign.

Barton's Downing nets KJCCC Player of the Week honor

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs have some of the biggest names in the NFL, from Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce to Chris Jones and JuJu Smith-Schuster, yet they're playing in their third Super Bowl in four years largely because they refused to give up on players only their most-passionate fans know about.

There’s the quartet of rookie defensive backs that were picked on all season, but who largely shut down Ja’Marr Chase and the Bengals' other talented wide receivers while picking off Joe Burrow twice in the AFC championship game.

There's Skyy Moore, their fumble-prone rookie punt returner whose fumble cost them a win in Indianapolis in Week 3, but whose big return in the waning seconds Sunday night helped to set up the winning field goal in the 23-20 victory.

And there's their kicker, Harrison Butker, whose sprained ankle in the regular-season opener in Arizona led to the most inaccurate season of his career, yet who drilled the 45-yarder with 3 seconds left that ultimately sent the Chiefs back to the desert.

“Really, those are the redemption stories that you get into,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “It was quite a deal to watch.”

Indeed, Reid has been around long enough to understand the unforgiving nature of the NFL, where players' careers are often measured in weeks rather than years. He's seen hundreds with promise flame out, their chances at making it big done in by fumble problems, blown blocking assignments, missed tackles or other seemingly minor miscues.

He likes to say that the line between success and failure is so small that it's almost imperceptible.

“With the circumstances so high,” Chiefs offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. admitted, “the margin of error is so slim.”

So nobody would have batted an eye had the Chiefs relegated Moore to the mothballs earlier in the season, when the first-year wide receiver couldn't even make a fair catch. To be fair, Moore had never really been put in that position, but that did not stop fans from groaning every time he fumbled a punt.

The Chiefs finally pulled him from return duties, at least during games. But Moore continued to work in practice, and it wound up paying off. Their new returner, Kadarius Toney, hurt his ankle against the Bengals, and his backup Justin Watson already was inactive with an illness. So, the Chiefs sent Moore back to fetch the biggest punt of the season.

He not only fielded it cleanly but raced up the sideline to give Kansas City a chance to win the AFC title in regulation.

“I just had to remind myself who I was and why I was here,” Moore said. "I was doing something new, and I was going to take my bumps and bruises. I just kept working at it. I didn’t think I was ever going to get a punt return again this season. But I didn’t stop catching punts. I was prepared for that moment and it paid off.”

So did the decision by the Chiefs to keep putting rookie cornerbacks Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson and Josh Williams on the field together, often with rookie safety Bryan Cook, even as wily wide receivers kept beating them and flags kept flying for pass interference. Much like Moore, they took their lumps early in the season so they would be ready later.

In the AFC title game, Watson and Williams both picked off passes, one of them after Cook batted the ball in the air.

“They told us we were going to be a big part of this defense. They threw us in the fire," Williams said. "They definitely gave us every piece of information and every detail to prepare us to play well in tight situations. They didn’t just tell us to go out there and play. They gave us a game plan and showed us how to execute. We did that and we bought in.”

Butker was a slightly different case. His ankle injury in the opener in Arizona not only caused him to miss three weeks, it also forced him to alter his approach to kickoffs and field goals. The result was a shaky season in which the veteran kicker with the big leg missed a career-worst six field-goal attempts and blew three extra points.

Yet when Moore's punt return gave Patrick Mahomes and Co. the ball, and the All-Pro quarterback scrambled into field-goal range on his own sprained ankle, the Chiefs had confidence enough in Butker to send him trotting onto the field.

It was frigid. The wind was swirling. The ball probably felt like a rock. And yet Butker managed to get just enough oomph on the 45-yarder that it squeaked over the crossbar and gave the Chiefs their third AFC title in four years.

“You dream about the big kicks. That’s what people remember," Butker pointed out in the jubilant Kansas City locker room afterward. "They don’t remember your field-goal percentage during the year.”

Nor do folks remember the adversity that players such as Moore, Butker and the Chiefs' rookie defensive backfield have faced when they suddenly find themselves playing in the Super Bowl.

Unheralded group of Chiefs get redemption in Super Bowl hunt

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Gabby Gregory scored 25 points and combined with Serena Sundell to make 7 of 8 free throws in the last 22 seconds and Kansas State defeated No. 12 Iowa State, the Big 12 Conference co-leader, 78-77 on Wednesday night.

Gregory clinched it with free throws with 2.3 seconds to go as the Cyclones hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Iowa State erased a seven-point deficit in the fourth quarter but only tied the game once, at 64, on an Ashley Joens layup with three minutes to go. Emilee Ebert answered with a layup and then Big 12 steals leader Jaelynn Glenn stole the ball for an uncontested layup. After an ISU basket, Glenn drilled a clutch 3-pointer that put the Wildcats up 71-66 with 1:41 to go.

Glenn finished with 15 points and Sundell 14 for the Wildcats (14-9, 3-7), who beat No. 4 Iowa 84-83 on Nov. 17.

Lexi Donarski scored 18 points and Joens had 17 for Iowa State (15-5, 7-3), which was tied for the league lead with Texas after beating No. 14 Oklahoma on Saturday. Nyamer Diew had 14 points and 14 rebounds and Denae Fritz scored 12.

Both teams made eight 3-pointers and shot 47%. Iowa State made all 13 free throws, but K-State was 16 of 20.

Fritz had a 3-pointer and three-point play in an 11-2 run in the middle of the second quarter that had ISU up by 11, but Gregory and Sundell helped K-State close within 36-32 at halftime.

The Wildcats held Joens to four points in the first half and only trailed 36-32. Joens has been on fire with 77 points in her last three games, scoring 32 against Oklahoma, and was the Big 12 Player of the Week for the 12th time, tying former teammate Bridget Carleton for second in league history.

Ebert hit a 3-pointer with 18 seconds to go in the third quarter to give Kansas State a 54-53 lead.

indicted on rape and kidnapping charges that stem from an incident in
Ohio just over three years ago. The NFL on Wednesday put the rookie
who has played just four snaps this season on the commissioner’s
exempt list. That means he can’t practice, play or travel with the
Eagles as they prepares for the Super Bowl. A grand jury indicted
Sills earlier this week. His attorney said Wednesday that the
allegations are false. Sills is due in court on Feb. 16, four days
after the Eagles are to play Kansas City in the Super Bowl.

The prolific pace of school-switching among college players has
helped some NFL prospects have breakout seasons and demonstrate they
can adapt to a new system. Players like Florida offensive tackle
O'Cyrus Torrence are hoping their moves pay off in the draft.
Torrence and dozens of others who played for multiple schools are
trying to improve their draft stock at the East-West Shrine Game and
Senior Bowl this week. They have to answer questions about why they
transferred. Some, like Torrence, Washington State linebacker Daiyan
Henley and Cincinnati linebacker Ivan Pace Jr., had big seasons.

opening of college football’s traditional signing period for high
school prospects brought an apparent end to two of the cycle’s most
notable recruitments. Blue-chip quarterback Jaden Rashada, who signed
with Florida in December and then asked to be released from the
commitment when a name, imagine and likeness deal fell through,
announced he is going to Arizona State. Also in the Pac-12, Cormani
McClain signed with Colorado to make it two straight years that coach
Deion Sanders has landed a five-star cornerback. McClain had
previously committed to Miami.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Donna Kelce is going to have to pull out that now-familiar custom jersey — the one with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce's front stitched to Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce's back — one more time this season.

At least this time, she'll get to see her boys in person.

For the first time in Super Bowl history, a pair of siblings will play each other on the NFL's grandest stage. Kelce helped the Chiefs return to their third championship game in four seasons on Sunday night when they beat the Bengals for the AFC title, while Jason has the Eagles back for the second time in six years after their NFC title win over the 49ers.

“Cool scenario to be in, you know?” Travis Kelce said. “My mom can't lose.”

Indeed, there have been plenty of famous NFL siblings over the years, and many had some memorable matchups: Peyton vs. Eli Manning, Tiki vs. Ronde Barber. But they never reached the same Super Bowl, or had to put their dear old mom in such a predicament, where one will be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy at the other one's expense.

“It's going to be an amazing feeling playing against him,” added Travis, whose team has gotten the better of big brother's Eagles the last three matchups. “I respect everyone over there in the Eagles organization. You won't see me talk too much trash because of how much I love my brother. But it's going to be an emotional game, for sure.”

Jason Kelce was even ever-so-briefly a Chiefs fan Sunday night, pulling on a Kansas City sweatshirt for about the three hours between the end of the Eagles' 31-7 rout of San Francisco and the finish of his little brother's 23-20 win over Cincinnati.

“That's it for the rest of the year,” Jason said with a smile. “I am done being a Chiefs fan.”

While her husband, Ed, has mostly kept private over the years, Donna has been a fixture as she crisscrosses the country to watch her boys. During wild-card weekend last year, she started in Tampa Bay watching the Eagles against the Buccaneers, then hopped a plane to Kansas City in time to watch the Chiefs play the Steelers at night.

She already has seen both of her sons win Super Bowls, too: The Eagles beat the Patriots in 2018 in Minneapolis, and the Chiefs rallied to beat the 49ers in Miami two years later.

She hasn't seen much of them lately, though. The way the playoff schedule worked out for the divisional round and the conference championship games, it was impossible for Donna to make it to see both of her boys in person.

In any case, they've come a long way from their solidly middle-class upbringing in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Jason blazed the trail as the star offensive lineman who earned a scholarship to Cincinnati, and Travis soon followed suit. Both caught the eyes of NFL scout during their college careers, and of one coach in particular: Andy Reid.

It was Big Red who, while coaching the Eagles, used a sixth-round pick on Jason during the 2011 draft. And two years later, after Reid had gotten a fresh start in Kansas City, the Chiefs used a third-rounder to bring Travis into the fold.

“Big brother probably protected Travis from doing some crazy things. He probably talked him from dropping off a ladder into raked-up leaves once or twice,” Reid said Monday. “Listen, they're both at heart very competitive and compassionate, is the biggest thing. They care and they care about people and they care about they're game.”

Jason has been to six Pro Bowls and was just voted an All-Pro for the fifth time, and he's emerged as one of the best offensive linemen in Eagles history. Travis has been to eight Pro Bowls, just made a fourth All-Pro team and is second in NFL history to Jerry Rice in playoff catches, yards and touchdowns.

Football's not the only thing they're good at, either.

The brothers have new a podcast called “New Heights with Jason &amp; Travis Kelce," which takes listeners on a riotous, real-time ride through the NFL season. The weekly shows are recorded on Tuesdays and last between 60 and 90 minutes, the two NFL stars playing off each other as if they were hanging out in mom's basement.

Special guests have included Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and Chiefs counterpart Patrick Mahomes.

“They have a good mesh there, and a good relationship,” Reid said. “I think Travis has grown up a lot. Jason probably came in a bit more mature — Travis was a little immature. But he's really grown into a good person.

“I have invested time in both of those two,” Reid added, “so I feel like a part of the family.”

The gong was rolled out one final time for the Lady Panther wrestlers Tuesday night at home. And it was worth it early on against McPherson. The first four Great Bend wrestlers pinned their opponents to lead the team to a 57-12 win against the Bullpups.

Action was light Tuesday at GBHS with no junior varsity matches and the first four matches on the varsity side going uncontested. Freshman Kaylea McMullen picked up the first win at 120 pounds, pinning her opponent in the second period for an 18-6 Great Bend lead. Third-ranked Daizy Gomez followed with a 71-second pin at 125 pounds, and Sierra Ferguson needed just 33 seconds for the win at 130 pounds. Katie Kuhlman capped the run with a pin at 135 pounds to put Great Bend ahead&nbsp; 36-6.

Kirra Stevens had the other big win on the evening, overpowering her opponent in the second period for a pin at 155 pounds. Lea Nokes hung on for a 4-3 decision at 170 pounds. Natalee Daniels and Yarlene Granados picked up a combined 12 open points to end the dual.

The Lady Panthers did suffer a pair of close losses. Jaydon Davis battled but came up short in a 9-3 decision at 140 pounds. Alondra Vazquez stepped into varsity action at 145 pounds, going the distance but losing a 7-0 decision. Karley Stukey and Hannah Crathorne split 12 points early in the dual with open matches.&nbsp;

Lady Panthers dominate McPherson in home finale

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Jalen Wilson remembers every slight. Every criticism. Every chip that's landed on his shoulder.

You can bet the Kansas forward remembers watching Kansas State fans storm the court after beating the Jayhawks.

So with revenge on their mind, Wilson and his pals jumped on the seventh-ranked Wildcats in the rematch Tuesday night. He finished with 20 points, Kevin McCullar Jr. had 16 points and 13 rebounds, and the No. 8 Jayhawks rolled to a 90-78 victory that also tightened the Big 12 standings at the midway point of conference play.

“It was like a big rub in our face, them storming the court,” Wilson admitted. “I always remember stuff like that.”

Dajuan Harris Jr. added 18 points for the Jayhawks (18-4, 6-3), who built a 12-point halftime lead before coasting to their 17th straight home win over K-State. They also won their second straight after a three-game skid, and made sure to avoid taking back-to-back losses inside Allen Fieldhouse for the first time since the 1988-89 season.

“Hey, their guys are hard to guard. They've got a good team,” Kansas coach Bill Self said. “I actually thought we did a good job, for the most part, and our bench was terrific. That was the best our bench has played so far.”

Markquis Nowell scored 23 points and Keyontae Johnson had 22 points and 12 boards to lead the Wildcats (18-4, 6-3), who were trying for their first regular-season sweep of their biggest rival in four decades.

Nae'Qwan Tomlin added 11 points for Kansas State. David N'Guessan had 10.

“They play at a fast pace. You know they play better at home,” Nowell said. “They started early with turnovers. They got out in transition. They got the crowd involved. They had a huge first half and I feel like we dug ourselves a hole.”

In their first meeting on Jan. 17, the Wildcats raced to a big early lead and controlled the game until late in the second half, when the Jayhawks forced overtime — only for Kansas State to win on Johnson's alley-oop dunk.

It was the Jayhawks who controlled the rematch.

They used a 16-7 run early in the game, built by speeding up the Wildcats and controlling the tempo. At one point, Kansas State coach Jerome Tang picked up a technical foul, and the Jayhawks stretched their lead to 32-19 in a blink.

“I didn't want to get a technical. I didn't mind getting a technical, though,” Tang said. “I've been in here too many times where I feel like the crowd impacts the referees. And they're human beings, and this is no knock on them. I just wanted them to know I did not feel like the calls were being even on both ends.”

The Wildcats answered with a run of their own, closing within 37-32. But that's when Wilson hit back-to-back 3-pointers and Zach Clemence, forced onto the court due to foul trouble among starters, added one of his own.

Kansas eventually led 49-37 at the break. And while the Wildcats briefly got within six in the second half, the outcome never seemed in jeopardy. The Jayhawks stretched their lead to 16 before cruising to the finish.

“I thought we had a bunch of self-inflicted wounds,” Tang said. “Part of it was the environment, part of it was the scheme and how we tried to attack them. We’ll go back and look at it.”

Johnson had to sit with two fouls just 2 1/2 minutes into the game. Only problem? The crew of John Higgins, Kip Kissinger and Marques Pettigrew gave one to the wrong player. By the time they corrected their mistake, the Wildcats' leading scorer had unnecessarily ridden the bench for several minutes.

For the first time in more than 15 years, more Kansas students redeemed tickets than there was space available inside Allen Fieldhouse. The overflow had to watch the game on screens in the adjacent Horejsi Family Athletics Center, where the Jayhawks play volleyball games. Those students also got refunds and concessions vouchers.

Kansas State's three losses in league play have been to ranked teams on the road: TCU, Iowa State and Kansas. And with a more forgiving second half to the Big 12 schedule, the Wildcats remain firmly in the conference title hunt.

Kansas got its mojo back with its win at Kentucky last weekend. This victory over another bunch of Wildcats was crucial because the road doesn't get any easier for the Jayhawks, who are in the midst of three straight games against ranked teams.

Kansas State returns home for another top-10 showdown Saturday against No. 10 Texas.

Kansas hits the road for the third time in four games against No. 13 Iowa State on Saturday.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Jalen Wilson remembers every slight. Every criticism. Every chip that's landed on his shoulder.You can bet the Kansas forward remembers watching Kansas State fans storm the court after beating the Jayhawks.So with revenge on their mind, Wilson and his pals jumped on the seventh-ranked Wildcats in the rematch Tuesday night. He finished with 20 points, Kevin McCullar Jr. had 16 points and 13 rebounds, and the No. 8 Jayhawks rolled to a 90-78 victory that also tightened the Big 12 standings at the midway point of conference play.“It was like a big rub in our face, them storming the court,” Wilson admitted. “I always remember stuff like that.”Dajuan Harris Jr. added 18 points for the Jayhawks (18-4, 6-3), who built a 12-point halftime lead before coasting to their 17th straight home win over K-State. They also won their second straight after a three-game skid, and made sure to avoid taking back-to-back losses inside Allen Fieldhouse for the first time since the 1988-89 season.“Hey, their guys are hard to guard. They've got a good team,” Kansas coach Bill Self said. “I actually thought we did a good job, for the most part, and our bench was terrific. That was the best our bench has played so far.”Markquis Nowell scored 23 points and Keyontae Johnson had 22 points and 12 boards to lead the Wildcats (18-4, 6-3), who were trying for their first regular-season sweep of their biggest rival in four decades.Nae'Qwan Tomlin added 11 points for Kansas State. David N'Guessan had 10.“They play at a fast pace. You know they play better at home,” Nowell said. “They started early with turnovers. They got out in transition. They got the crowd involved. They had a huge first half and I feel like we dug ourselves a hole.”In their first meeting on Jan. 17, the Wildcats raced to a big early lead and controlled the game until late in the second half, when the Jayhawks forced overtime — only for Kansas State to win on Johnson's alley-oop dunk.It was the Jayhawks who controlled the rematch.They used a 16-7 run early in the game, built by speeding up the Wildcats and controlling the tempo. At one point, Kansas State coach Jerome Tang picked up a technical foul, and the Jayhawks stretched their lead to 32-19 in a blink.“I didn't want to get a technical. I didn't mind getting a technical, though,” Tang said. “I've been in here too many times where I feel like the crowd impacts the referees. And they're human beings, and this is no knock on them. I just wanted them to know I did not feel like the calls were being even on both ends.”The Wildcats answered with a run of their own, closing within 37-32. But that's when Wilson hit back-to-back 3-pointers and Zach Clemence, forced onto the court due to foul trouble among starters, added one of his own.Kansas eventually led 49-37 at the break. And while the Wildcats briefly got within six in the second half, the outcome never seemed in jeopardy. The Jayhawks stretched their lead to 16 before cruising to the finish.“I thought we had a bunch of self-inflicted wounds,” Tang said. “Part of it was the environment, part of it was the scheme and how we tried to attack them. We’ll go back and look at it.”OFFICIATING OOPSJohnson had to sit with two fouls just 2 1/2 minutes into the game. Only problem? The crew of John Higgins, Kip Kissinger and Marques Pettigrew gave one to the wrong player. Virginia 76-72. JaKobe Coles had 17 points, Shahada Wells 16 points
and Xavier Cork 15 for the 17-5 Horned Frogs. Erik Stevenson had 17
points and Tre Mitchell 15 for West Virginia, which is 13-9.

The Big 12 has released its long-anticipated 14-team football
schedule. It includes its four new members for 2023 along with
Oklahoma and Texas before their eventual departures to the
Southeastern Conference. Houston will be the first of the new teams
to play a conference game, on September 16 when the Cougars host
former Southwest Conference rival and national champion runner-up
TCU. The other newcomers play their Big 12 openers the following
week, when BYU is at Kansas, Central Florida goes to defending
champion Kansas State, and Cincinnati hosts Oklahoma. After playing a
round-robin schedule as a 10-team league since 2011, the Big 12 will
still have a nine-game conference schedule without divisions.

(AP) — Donna Kelce is going to have to pull out her custom jersey —
the one with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce’s front
stitched to Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce’s back — one
more time this season. For the first time in Super Bowl history, a
pair of siblings will square off on the NFL’s biggest stage. Kelce
helped the Chiefs return to their third championship game in four
seasons on Sunday night when they beat the Bengals for the AFC title.
Jason has the Eagles back for the second time in six years after
their NFC title win over the 49ers.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.
(AP) — A person with knowledge of the pact tells The Associated
Press that the Denver Broncos have agreed to a deal with the New
Orleans Saints to hire Sean Payton as their head coach. The person
says the Broncos will send a first-round pick in this year's draft
and a future second-rounder to the Saints in order to get Payton in
Denver. The Saints will send a third-round pick to the Broncos.
Payton stepped down as the Saints' coach last year but remained under
contract with the team. The person spoke to The AP on condition of
anonymity because the teams hadn't announced the agreement.

HOUSTON (AP) —
DeMeco Ryans has been hired as coach of the Houston Texans, giving
him his first head coaching job and bringing him back to the place
where he started his playing career. Ryans joins the Texans from the
San Francisco 49ers, where he spent the past two seasons as their
defensive coordinator.

SANTA CLARA, Calif.
(AP) — The San Francisco 49ers head into another offseason with
major questions at quarterback after a season filled with injuries to
the most important position ended without any of them physically able
to throw the the ball downfield. Week 1 starter Trey Lance is close
to being fully cleared following two operations on his broken right
ankle. Brock Purdy is figuring out how to treat the injured elbow
that prevented him from throwing the ball more than a few yards in
the NFC title game loss to Philadelphia. Jimmy Garoppolo is set to
become an unrestricted free agent in six weeks.

UNDATED (AP) —
Dexter Fowler says he is retiring at age 36 after 14 major league
seasons. An All-Star outfielder in 2016 when he won a World Series
title with the Chicago Cubs, Fowler hit .259 with 127 homers and 517
RBIs. A 14th-round pick by Colorado in the 2004 amateur draft, Fowler
played for the Rockies, Houston, the Cubs, St. Louis and the Los
Angeles Angels. Fowler signed a minor league contract with Toronto
last March 31. He went 5 for 12 (.417) with three RBIs in three games
for Triple-A Buffalo from April 28-30, then was released on May 3.

Highlighted by&nbsp;Dawson Chavez&nbsp;strong afternoon, the Barton Community College wrestling team concluded the 2022-2023 dual portion of the season Sunday afternoon at the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference duals inside the Salina Fieldhouse, in Salina, KS.

 </figure>By BRANDON SMITH Barton Sports InfoHighlighted by&nbsp;Dawson Chavez&nbsp;strong afternoon, the Barton Community College wrestling team concluded the 2022-2023 dual portion of the season Sunday afternoon at the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference duals inside the Salina Fieldhouse, in Salina, KS.Open at four weights throughout the event, the Cougars would drop all four duals on the day. Falling in the opener to Neosho County Community College 39-16, Barton would suffer a 39-12 results in the second match to Labette Community College, then falling by a score of 41-18 to Cowley College while concluding the day suffering a 55-0 result to 4th ranked Pratt Community College.Chavez 157-division guided the Cougars on the afternoon turning in a 3-1 day on the mat. The sophomore secured two of his three victories with first period back flattening falls with his other win fortified by an open weight. Chavez lone defeat came in his final match of the day dropping a 10-7 decision to the 4th ranked Samajay Alboyd of Pratt.Keondre Bonner&nbsp;174-division mended together a 2-2 afternoon with both of his victories coming on falls against Neosho County and Labette.Barton will get the week off to prepare for the 2023 NJCAA West-Central District Championships on Saturday, February 11th which will be held in Chanute on the campus of Neosho County.
